TL;DR
Armor with Sorcery Boosts
Several armor pieces in Elden Ring offer specific boosts to sorcery. The Snow Witch Hat is known for enhancing cold sorceries, while the Spellblade Gloves boost Glintstone sorceries [1:2]. Additionally, there are armors that enhance thorn sorcery, azur's primeval sorcery, and lusat's primeval sorcery
[1:1]. These specialized boosts can significantly enhance your sorcery build by increasing damage output for specific types of spells.
Mobility vs. Protection
For sorcery builds, mobility is often prioritized over heavy protection due to the ranged nature of magic combat. Many players suggest wearing lighter armor to maintain a medium roll, which allows for better evasion and positioning [1:6],
[4:2]. However, if you prefer a balance between protection and mobility, mixing and matching armor pieces can provide some defense without sacrificing too much agility
[3:1],
[4:1].
Popular Armor Choices
The Carian Knight set from Raya Lucaria is a popular choice among players who enjoy the aesthetic of traditional mage robes [1:8]. For those who want more style, the Marauder Torso paired with Acolyte Cowl offers a visually appealing option
[3:2]. Ultimately, many players agree that armor in Elden Ring is largely about personal preference and aesthetics, as long as it doesn't hinder gameplay mechanics like rolling
[1:2].
Additional Tips for Sorcery Builds
When building a sorcery-focused character, prioritize stats such as Intelligence (up to 80 for maximum damage) and Mind (around 38 for efficient FP management) [5:1]. Utilize talismans like the Graven-Mass Talisman and Magic Scorpion Charm to further boost sorcery damage
[5:2]. Also, consider using the Regal Scepter and Ranni's Dark Moon for powerful spellcasting against bosses
[5:2].
I know most of the sorcery sets but are their any good combos or any hidden/harder to find sets that would be good for the build ?
There's stuff like Snow Witch Hat boosting cold sorceries, Spellblade Gloves boosting Glinstone sorceries, multiple headpieces boost INT, etc
But honestly?
Armor is fake, wear what you like (and can medium roll in)
Spellblade set only boosts arts of war that deal magic damage, the stuff that Rogier sells. Also boosts mooveil and darkmoon greatsword arts.
Yeah I knew the set boosted magic weapon arts, but for some reason, I was under the impression that the gloves specifically boosted some spells too. Not sure where I got that, cause it's definitely not the case. Oh well, even more reason to ignore armor mechanically :P
I refuse. It's fat roll or nothing (aka overburdened)
I think half the fun is wearing robes and being susceptible to damage.
None. Your playing from range. Keep endurance at min and focus on damage and light rolling.
My favourite was always Carian Knight from Raya Lucaria.

There's armor that boosts thorn sorcery, cold sorcery, azur's primeval sorcery, and lusat's primeval sorcery. Also, you can cast with your best sorcery scaling staff while offhanding a staff that boosts a particular school of magic. The offhand staff doesn't have to be upgraded. The staff of loss boosts night shard and night comet by 30%. If you can get someone to drop you a 2nd one, the bonuses stack multiplicatively. 1.3 * 1.3 = 1.69, almost a 70% increase, although you do have to upgrade one of them to actually cast with.
Without saying too much, I killed Morgott on his “third appearance” at the Eden throne, and my character can do massive damage, but feels very squishy and low on defense.
So I need a good armor recommendation
I’m doing a spell sword/pyromancer build, and these are my stats (with Godricks rune)
Level 86
Level up cost: 44k+
45.5 max for medium load
Vigor: 32 Mind: 31 Endurance: 21 Strength: 30 Dexterity: 30 Intelligence: 14 Faith: 29 Arcane: 18
Weapons:
16+ lordsworn straight sword 8+ finger seal
I’m working on getting the Blasphemous Blade for my build.
I’ve mostly been using a combination of the Carian Knight and Scaled armor.
So yeah, I need a good armor that’s decent in defense, and doesn’t look like crap.
Thanks!
the carian armor does not fit the build at all
id suggest going for the tree sentinel armor you can find it by fully completing the leyndell hero's grave i wont spoil the exact thing because idk if you care its great defensively and goes great for the holy asthetic
I don’t think my character is fit for a “holy build”, and that armor looks hella heavy, I don’t even know if I can use my sword
hold on im gonna head into eip and see if i can make a build that fits spellsword pyromancer
here made this https://eip.gg/elden-ring/build-planner/?buildId=cmb422r3a129ym75zlib6r8uv
think this will work?
If the Scaled set isn't helping you, then probably it's your low vigor the problem.
The bloodhound knight set is one of my go-to favorites. You can swap out the chestpiece with most others.
Looks good, I’ll try to get it in the morning
I love the hounskull helmet
Gold mask set panties are the only way bröther
That’s hilarious but I don’t want to be Dagoth Ur 😂
I need help choosing the armor I’m gonna wear for most of the game. I’ve beaten the game >!(and gotten the secret ending)!< and I can’t decide on whether or not I want to go for a more protective armor like the Blackened set, or a more lightweight, mobility focused armor, like Eraden Clothes or sorcerer armor. I don’t use magic very much, and usually only use swords, body, and telekinesis. If you could share your opinion, it would be very appreciated!
I started of with more protecting armor, but as I progressed I got more magic enhancing armor. Now I do more of a mix between cool looking and magic armor
Could you tell me what you use? I really like the blackened gauntlets and helmet but the red set looks ugly when pairing it with it. I use a long sword and my offhand for magic 🙏
IMO the Marauder Torso (Red Armor) looks more stylish with the Acolyte Cowl. Pair that with the blackened gauntlets and it looks pretty good.
be a Chad and don't wear armor. focus regen all the way lol
Spoken like a true warrior
Depends on what your play style. How do you usually resolve encounters?
I typically just use my sword and fist, with slow mo sometimes. And maybe some telekinesis if there’s a large group of enemies.
If you like getting close and personal then more protective armor might be your thing, just incase they manage to sneak a hit in there. Or you might take more mobility focused armor, so you can run circles around them.
Marauder is cool imo
Yeah it’s one of my favorites appearance wise
I know this post is a little old, but I myself prefer to take advantage of the games localized damage. Lets say you have no chest piece on but you also have the blackened gauntlets or whatever they're called. If you block a sword strike with your arm so that it hits the gauntlet, that will mean you take much less damage than you would if you were hit in the torso where you're wearing nothing.
I specifically like to wear a plate chest piece, plate gauntlets, a plate helmet, and sorcerers everything else. However, since you said you don't like magic as much, I would recommend trying to wear lower tier armour in place of where I would use sorcerers gear to preserve your focus regen and mobility. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, you could wear nothing at all except for the chestplate, gauntlets, and helmet. A metal chestpiece is good because it's a huge target and therefore a large area protected, the gauntlets are good because you can block with them as a last resort (Or just to feel badass.) And the helmet it great for archers so you don't get one tapped by some fuckass guy way up on a cliff.
My final point is that if you have a sorcerers glove on your right hand and a metal gauntlet on your left, then spells charged in your right hand will charge faster. This may not apply to you as much but I find it very useful personally.
TLDR; Damage is localized, take advantage of it. Sacrifice protection for speed in certain places where you don't get hit as much. Wear a metal helmet.
Just the End game sorcerer armor.
For starting out, the druid stuff or just nothing at all, for max movement, and little impact on cast speed.
I'd say the Tier 2 sorcerer set is better for OP's ask because, if I remember right, the Acolyte set actually hinders your mobility a bit, since it also gives some protection. I believe if you mix and match them, it's possible to get maxed out Sorcery and Mobility, as well as a bit of protection. Can't confirm just now, though.
Been playing Elden Ring since it came out, but I've never done anything with sorceries and figured I'd try it out, but idk anything about what's good and what's bad and how much I should put into each stat, etc.
Go crazy with 70 Int with the Regal Scepter(Rennala rememberance)
Ranni's Dark Moon is a must for bosses
I'd use either the Erdtree's Favor +2 for some extra stamina or the Two Headed Turtle talisman to increase stamina recovery
The new Gravitational Missile spell is incredible for free aiming at the ground with a huge get off me explosion aoe, and very FP efficient
Graven-Mass Talisman buffs sorceries by 8%
Magic Scorpion Charm Talisman buffs magic damage by 12%
Probably obvious but don't forget the Magic Tear for your Physick
I've never used it because it seems inconvenient, but Terra Magica could be good for you. It buffs any Magic by 35%
Appreciate it

Same as other builds with vigour between 40-60, and enough endurance to medium roll
For mind 38 is ideal as that’s how much one fully upgraded flask will fully recharge but you can get away with less
Int is obviously your main damage stat and getting it to 80 is ideal, if you’re using weapons and doing a spell sword build then usually just go minimums in dex and strength and pump Int
For staffs you’re best bet is
40 int and below meteorite staff
41 - 68 int academy glintstone
68 int and above carian regal sceptre
The Lusat staff has higher scaling, but personally I don’t like the higher fp consumption but it def can maximize damage
If exclusively using night sorceries staff of loss is best bet
The other staffs can have good bonuses to certain schools of magic that can be worth off handing when using those spells
You can go spellsword with a weapon and there’s lots of good options or you can go straight sorceries as there are some great melee options like carian slicer, adulas moonblade, carian piercer, gavel of haima
Some S-tier sorceries imo are:
Impenetrable thorns, night shard, ice crag, carian slicer, adulas moonblade, rannis dark moon, rock sling, magma shot, magic glintblade, Tera magica, comet azur, carian piercer, fleeting microcosm
Lots of other options to try and see tho, a lot of it is personal preference
Thanks!
Everywhere i look either it be on the web or on youtube, noone ever says what the best armor in the game is, they always judt say which ones are good.
i dont care if theyre good, whats the hands down no questions asked BEST armor in the game??
Good is subjective. If you have unlimited equip weight the Bull Goat armor has the highest physical resistances. Elden ring does really have linear progression with armor sets like other RPGS.
I think some good sets include a helm that gives you +stats on your main stat, or ones you need, and as much physical resistance as you can have without going to heavy weight.
I just found Bull Goat. Do later sets not have as much poise or physical resistance?
Nope that's as high as it goes. I think its basically the equivalent to Havel's set in Dark Souls.
Sucks you can get locked out of it by missing a quest though.
If you really want the absolute best protection, the Bull Goat Armor Set from >!Patches !<has the highest defensive stats, but it's really heavy. So are the super-heavy armor like the Fire Prelate and Lionel's Armor.
If you want great protection that won't over-encumber you, go for Radahn's Lion Armor Set. It will last you for pretty much the entire game. The Veteran's Armor Set and Tree Sentinel Armor Set outperform it slightly, but are endgame armor.
For Helms, the ones that boost your stats are more valuable than straight-up pure defensive ones, especially if you're using magic. I personally go for the Witch's Glintstone Crown you get at the end of >!Sellen's !<questline. Others go for the Twinsage Glintstone Crown.
If you want to farm for it, and spec for item discovery, I recommend the Banished Knight Armor. Not the one that says (Altered), but one with a cape. It's a late game rare drop from the a single Banished Knight at >!Castle Sol!<, but it has the best overall stats for a chest piece. You have to farm the Knight that appears with two wolves, but you can't access this area until the endgame, and the enemies here are TOUGH.
You can farm the entire set from the early banished knight in stormviel(or dragon communion), and have boc "un-alter" the chest piece(which gives the cape back). Boc can actually "un-alter" all of the "altered" gear you find, but you have to get him the gold sewing kit and meet him at the capitol.
Not true with that set. Alternate must be farmed.
Banished Knight Helmet (with Scarf) can be farmed as soon as you start the game. There is a single Banished Knight with it that spawns at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion (Caelid). He's literally almost touching the Site of Grace and he's the only enemy around. Super super easy farm. I also really like his shield and while it's not as good as Brass, it's definitely more fashionable.
Naked. Dodging is better than tanking
respectable👍
Nothing. Its all preference lol
No such thing in FromSoft games. Armour is situational. There are types better for some instances then for others. And no all round best to have. My suggestion? Just wear what looks good to you, express yourself.
For the scythe also, try rerolling crit to Amina conduit for perma heal thanks to soul shipon.
The second is better but I would reroll the first enchantment slot
I think first as it has soul focus
Titan's Shroud is good
Might reccomend rerolling the first enchant slot to get cooldown. Potion barrier at the 2nd, and Deflect on the 3rd
Confessor. I know, so basic, but so good!
For my Death/Ghostflame build, I run the hood with Bandit everything else. I've tried mixing it up, but always fall back on at least the hood and Bandit chest.
I have to admit, the whole Set yells out Drip for me. Sometimes I try out different armours but this one's my favourite!
I’m glad I’m not the only one. I swap out the boots and gloves with more effective armor pieces, but I simply can’t bring myself to abandon the cape.
I didn’t drop the cape for 1/2 the game!
Night’s Cavalry + Black Hood is my go to
Night's Cavarly + Lionel's Helm is mine
Scaled armor set is my current
That's my favorite armor but recently I only use the chest piece because I use the raging wolf helm and the Bull Goat gauntlets and greaves. I won't be winning any fashion awards but it keeps protected/mid roll and looks good to me
It’s pretty basic but I love the Nights Cavalry with the bandit mask. Just looks so clean.
You choose it based on how it looks?
Either the drake set or the clean rot set
Title says it all, does anyone know what the best robustness stat slated armor is in the game? tryna get a good kit together for pvp
The big pot belly one you find in the capital church building is pretty good.
Lionel's Set.
Idk but Blaidd's has very high robustness IIRC
bet. thank you
I think radahn’s and lionel’s sets have the most
Eye surcoat has 55 robustness
I’m in the early/mid game (just before Godrick) and I’m getting slapped a bit.
Any armour sets to buy or farm for or should I just go for the knights armour set at the table of lost grace?
Thank you!
Banished knight armor set carried me whole game.
This guy said mid-game 🤣. Yeahhh. You still REAL early game. I mean that as this game is WAY bigger than most people think/thought.
Yea, my bad 😬😬
Haha it’s all good. It’s just crazy how big this game really is. Depending on your class you can buy the knight armor at round table. The scale armor from guy in weeping pennisula isnt bad either. Depends on your class really and what you looking for.
Dz armor is really good.
Deez nutz?
Kill the commander at the top of Castle Morne, good set for early game and who cares about his daughter right?
BTW… Godrick is early game 😂 after I beat him I realized this game is way bigger than I ever thought.
I use the Guardian Set. It's dropped by the guardians around the Minor Erdtree. Easiest way to get it is farm the tree in the weeping Peninsula. I've used it for quite a while now and haven't found a better set that doesn't put me over medium load.
Best armor for sorcery builds in Elden Ring
Key Considerations for Armor in Sorcery Builds:
Weight Class: Choose armor that balances protection and weight. Light armor allows for better mobility and faster casting, while heavier armor offers more protection but can hinder your roll speed.
Magic Resistance: Look for armor sets that provide high resistance to magic damage, as sorcery builds often face magical attacks from enemies.
Poise: While poise is less critical for sorcery builds, having some poise can help you withstand hits while casting spells.
Aesthetic and Roleplay: Consider the look of the armor, as it can enhance your character's theme and immersion in the game.
Recommended Armor Sets:
Rennala's Set:
Blaidd's Set:
Sage Set:
Carian Knight Set:
Takeaway: For a sorcery build, prioritize armor that enhances your magic resistance while maintaining a weight that allows for agile movement. The Rennala's Set is a top choice for its combination of aesthetics and protection, but feel free to mix and match pieces from different sets to suit your playstyle.
