Electric Scrubbers and Drill Attachments
Electric scrub brushes are highly recommended for reducing cleaning time and effort. Users have reported that these tools can cut cleaning time in half, making them ideal for tackling tough grime on shower tiles and floors [1:1]
[5:1]. For those with a drill, scrub brush attachments can be used to achieve similar results, providing a powerful alternative to manual scrubbing
[5:2].
Steam Cleaners
Steam mops and handheld steam cleaners are praised for their effectiveness in cleaning without the need for harsh chemicals. They are particularly useful for individuals sensitive to bleach or other strong cleaning agents [4:4]
[5:3]. Some models come with brush head attachments, which can be used for scrubbing showers and tiles.
All-Purpose Cleaners
Many users recommend using all-purpose sprays for bathroom cleaning, as they are versatile and can be used on various surfaces like sinks, tubs, and counters [2:3]
[2:5]. These cleaners often save space and money, and when combined with microfiber cloths, they provide an efficient cleaning solution.
Specialized Products
Certain products are favored for specific tasks, such as Lysol Lime & Rust for toilet bowls, which can transform heavily soiled toilets into sparkling clean ones [3:1]. Comet with Bleach is another popular choice for deep cleaning sinks and countertops
[3:1], while Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are praised for their versatility, although not recommended for toilets
[1:3].
DIY Solutions
Simple DIY solutions like a mixture of Dawn dish soap and vinegar can effectively remove water stains and soap scum from showers [5:5]. This method involves misting the shower area, leaving it for a bit, and rinsing it off, offering a low-cost alternative to commercial cleaners.
Additional Recommendations
For those dealing with extremely dirty bathrooms, heavy-duty gloves and scrub brushes are essential [3:2]. Rubber gloves are also recommended to protect hands from germs and chemical exposure
[2:6]. Lastly, keeping a plunger on hand is advised, as it's a crucial tool for any bathroom
[4:2].
I’ve been living with a roommate for a while and only recently started genuinely caring about how my bathroom and living space looks. I’m generally pretty clean, but I want it to look as clean as a week-long wait would look lol. I use a soap scrum cleaner for the inside of my bathtub and the bathroom sink, Lysol solution for the toilet, and some chlorox wipes for counters and the toilet seat, sides, etc.
I’m not sure how I feel about soap scrum for the tub or sink. I don’t have any residue from bar soaps … because I don’t use it lol. I use liquid soaps like Dove men’s liquid soap.
I’ve recently been feeling grossed out by my own living space and want to set up regular weekly cleanings of my space to welcome myself and any guests and not feel grossed out anymore.
Some problem areas I am hoping to get advice on are:
I would greatly appreciate advice. I’m genuinely trying to do better and would appreciate the support.
I have a Clorox toilet wand - I use one for the floor near the toilet (after I spray some cleaner, whatever I have at the time) and on the bottom of the toilet, and then another for inside.
I also use this on my shower walls and floor, it saves me from bending over too much.
Thanks for the tip! I don’t clean my shower as much as I should - this will help.
Mr Clean Magic Eraser! They are incredible for all types of cleaning Not toilets though
I switched from bar soap to shower gel and it keeps my tub and shower scum-free.
Scrub daddy, vinegar, and praying my back survives cleaning day
thats what shower stools are for
Cleaning day kills my back 😩
For real! 🤣🤣🤣 I feel you.
I bought a spin scrubber from Aldis. My tub is showroom new.
I have to buy supplies for cleaning and I am so confused. The internet suggests way too many products for every individual thing. I don’t want to buy too much unnecessary stuff.
My bathroom doesn’t have tiles or ceramic. Everything is plastic. So far I have paper towels, disinfectant wipes, microfiber cloths and those fancy bathtub brushes with a handle and different attachments.
What cleaner should I get? The bathtub is plastic textured. Can the same cleaner be used for sink?
I put a toilet bowl cleaner in and let it sit while I do the rest.
Spray multipurpose cleaner on the sink, counter, tub, and toilet exterior. Then use a microfiber cloth to wipe down those things. I do the toilet exterior last, along with the floor next to and behind the toilet.
Then I use a clean microfiber on the mirror. If it’s really dirty, I’ll use a glass cleaner. A barely damp microfiber will do if it’s not very dirty.
Then toilet brush to scrub the inside and damp microfiber mop on the floor. Or I’ll use a third microfiber and wipe the floor by hand.
We have soft water, and we use a liquid body wash, so I’m not dealing with soap scum or hard water rings in the toilet.
My list for a weekly clean is 2-3 microfibers, multipurpose cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, toilet brush.
Disinfecting wipes or spray if someone is sick.
Deeper cleans (done less often) require scrubbing brushes for nooks and crannies and more microfibers for walls, cabinets, etc. A steam cleaner is nice for the deep clean.
I guess you could do without the multipurpose cleaner and instead wipe everything down with a damp microfiber to clean off the grime, then go over it again with the wipes.
I use bar mop towels instead of microfiber clothes but this is what I do. The toilet gets it's own rag, and I use one for the sink and the tub.
But I'd add rubber gloves to your list.
I use the same cleaner on sink and bathtub, just an all purpose spray. Choose one that works for you (price, scent, environmentally friendly if that is a factor for you) - honestly, as long as you clean regularly anything will work
100% agree! I used to overthink and buy separate cleaners for every little thing, but honestly, one good all-purpose spray does the trick for both my sink and plastic tub. I just make sure it says it works on plastic and I'm good. It saves space and money. Microfiber cloths are honestly a game-changer too. As long as you keep up a regular schedule, nothing gets too gross to handle!
That yellow Awesome spray is great and you can get it at The Dollar Store.
The number one supply for bathroom cleaning is a good dissenfectant. It is for everything including mirrors... yes mirrors, inside the toilet bowl, and everywhere else. Clean with it to get up any soils and then spray again and follow instructions on dwell time to use it to is best potential to help cut down on illness this winter. Don't spray and wipe like they do in restaurants. It has to have contact time.
Also nitrile gloves. Keeps the germs off of your hands and will keep the spray off of your skin to prevent reactions.
Dish soap, water, Windex and maybe lysol wipes do the bulk of my work. 95% of cleaning is easily done with soap/water which people forget, the wipes are mostly for the toilet area if I missed.
Agree with dish soap in hot soapy water. If it's good enough for my dishes, it's good enough for the surfaces I don't eat off of. I might double back with targeted cleaners for buildup, or places it won't work well, like mirrors or the toilet bowl. But it's cheap, fast, and effective on most everything else.
I do very similar as some places may need something tougher (my shower and toilet tends to get some buildup from water so soap isn't usually enough). Otherwise the only reason I keep the wipes around mostly is because I may find say soda drips on a floor and it is quicker to grab. I've very rarely used a purpose-made product besides maybe for cleaning carpet.
Even if you are concerned with bacteria, a cap of bleach in like 1gal water does the trick. This is a very common way to disinfect cutting boards quickly as it is just enough to kill whatever from raw meat but not enough to hurt you.
I personally own way too many cleaning products / tools, but tbh all I consistently use for the bathroom is:
You can buy everything you need for a good bathroom clean for $15-$30, and most of it will last you a while. Good luck!
I am going to clean a bathroom of a family member that is filthy. I have only seen it from 5 feet away but doesn’t look like it has been cleaned in years. I don’t want to buy expensive tools. Tips for favorite deep cleaning of showers, toilets, sinks and faucets.
A good pair of gloves and scrub brush will go a long way. I’ve got a heavy duty pair of gloves at the hardware store that are thicker and longer up the elbows.
LA’s Totally Awesome cleaner is sold at dollar tree and has numerous rave reviews on the sub.
Lysol Lime & Rust (colloquially named Lysol Black Label) Toilet Bowl cleaner can take a toilet from absolutely cooked to sparkling in just a little while. Take a pail of water (about a gallon, so a bathroom trash can) and pour it quickly down the toilet; it should make the water level in the toilet almost non-existent. Then swirl the Black Label inside bowl from top down, let it sit about 15 min and then use an old school toilet brush to go to town.
For sinks and countertops, good ol’ $1 Comet with Bleach and a few rags that can be tossed will do so much.
Thank you!!!!
A plunger, even if you don't think you need one you are going to need one. Don't be cheap - buy a good one, much less expensive than calling a plumber. Even more important if you only have one bathroom.
And even worse if you have someone over who you’re intimate with
Someone else who enjoys cleaning the bathroom. Uh. And a towel maybe?
I used to use bleach to clean pretty much everything. Since my son was born, I hate bleachy smells because I worry they will hurt his breathing, so I got a steam mop and handheld steam cleaner and think both are brilliant.
Paper towel, lysol black, spray away glass cleaner, lysol lemon, sponge
Comet and windex. I've never needed more
Absolutely
Hi all, i hate cleaning the shower its my least favourite house keeping job. Does anyone have a any recommendations for tools to make the job easier? Thanks!
I started using an electric scrub brush from Amazon and it cut my cleaning time in half
I was thinking about one of these but was worried it was a tiktok fad. Thanks for the recommendation
If you have a drill, you can get scrub brush attachments for it and it works the same way!
I did this, too, and the attachment for corners is a dream
Steam mop? They have some with a brush head attachment. I haven’t tried yet, but there are lots of good reviews.
Edit: I have a steam mop. I just haven’t tried scrubbing my shower yet.
I keep one of these filled with bathroom cleaner in the bathroom, and then when I've got to leave conditioner or a hair mask or something on for a few minutes, I'll do the walls and then rinse them with the shower head. I change the sponge every few wall washes.
being honest with you i haven't scrubbed my shower in years because i started keeping a spray bottle of 1:1 dawn and vinegar in the bathroom. you just mist your shower alcove, leave it for a bit, and then rinse it with a detachable shower head and it just takes water stains and soap grime with it.
I love that idea. I wonder about the effect of repeated uses of vinegar on grout.
This sounds a good idea!
I have a huge tile Roman-type shower and cleaning it is a bitch. Plus I literally don’t care. (I’m terrible)
Twice a year I’ll hook up my power washer and go to town. Mildew and grime just get blown away.
I thought stiff cleaning devices were the answer but lately I found using a car wash mitt, one on each hand, has me cleaning the bathrooms in record time. I spray everything down with cleaner. Put the mits on and scrub around. Then i just get a big towel or paper towels & dry everything off. For the shower & floor same thing but i use a car wash mit on an extension pole. Way faster & cleaner. They are microfiber & have the tassels.
Nice. I use dusting gloves in the same way, and recommend them for any areas where the bulky car wash mitts make it difficult to clean. :)
Hi friends!! I need your reccs for bathroom cleaners that will make scrubbing my tub easier. The thought of getting into the tub and scrubbing it makes me want to scream but it’s starting to look a bit scary in there. I hate that it feels like I’m walking through molasses just to get the cleaning going in there.
Take some scrubbing bubbles and hose the whole thing down super super good. Then take one of those melamine sponges, one of those Mr. clean sponges and scrape the whole thing and if there’s anything left after that, some soft scrub on a sponge and scrub it down. But in good faith, knowing that the scrubbing bubbles killed anything first.
Thank you so much for this! I bought the max spray scrubbing bubbles and it’s already making a difference , yay to a cleaner tub!
Yes! I hate buying aerosols but I do make an exception for the bubbles. I spray a full force field and let it sit 10 minutes to render all nasties inert.
Get a power scrubber! They make it much easier (and more fun) than hand scrubbing.
Maaaaaan those look so cool I’ll have to order one soon. Hand scrubbing is the worst!

For example, I've learned that Oreck vacuum cleaners are powerhouses on this sub. What other cleaning tool or appliance do you love? What can you not imagine life without?
My spin mop - the one with a separate compartment for the dirty water - and my robot vacuum. I also love my Norwex cloths.
I’ve had and loved the OCedar spin mop for about 7 years (great value there!!) and I just bought the new one with the separate compartment…what a great invention!
I love my scrub brush on a pole for scrubbing down the shower. No more getting on my hands and knees to scrub the shower floor! I got a set of brushes that attach to the drill for the shower as well, though I haven’t used them yet 🙈 I really hate cleaning the shower lol. I was recently given washable microfiber dusting mitts which I love! Swiffers are so expensive so I like cutting down on that cost!!
Brushes for the drill are AWESOME!!! I found a nice brush assortment and an 18" extender rod. Run it around the toilet, corners, etc in no time!
The narrow nozzle for the vacuum is super handy for cleaning the slots in the drill press table
Henry Hoover
He has got a face
I’m in love with my James. That would be my top choice for this post!🙂
I once knew a Henry Hoover. He was a babe. 6'3", blond curly hair. Didn't vacuum though. 🤣
I swear by the windex outdoor window cleaning pads, you shoot your hose at the window, use these pads on an extension pole, then rinse with your hose. Streak free clean windows.
Seriously?
Seriously that they suck? Or seriously, I’m not kidding?
Hi! I’m new here so please remove if this is not allowed - I want to do a deep clean of my apartment, specifically the kitchen and bathrooms. What are your go-to products to really clean bath tubs, toilets, sinks, garbage disposal, and counters?
Also, I recently purchased a ScrubDaddy sponge for dishes and I love it, are there any better sponges or should I continue to buy/use the ScrubDaddy ones for dishes and actual cleaning (obviously I would not use the same one for both hahaha)

I use the pink stuff cream cleaner and the paste alot. I also use zoflora diluted in bottles to clean with, and it smells amazing.
Thank you so much!!
Moving into my 1st apt and am on a budget. Want to purchase what's necessary and keep things to a minimum.
Barkeeper's Friend.
Along with the other recommendations already here.
This. I haven’t seen it in years, but years ago, when I was subletting, the owner would bathe their kid in the tub. The tub had years of dark yellowish/brown build up. He claimed to have tried everything. Did a little research and found Barkeepers Friend. With that, and a bit of elbow grease, it was white again. Think I found it at a discount store.
A floor brush. Just for the floor? No. I use it to wash my bathtub/shower. Ain’t nobody got time or energy to wash that thing with a tiny ass sponge.
Car washing tools can be great for tub and shower cleaning too!
Any suggestions on a brand?
Dishsoap, sponge with soft and scrubby sides, some descaling cleaner or how thats called. that should cover bathroom and kitchen. maybe some desinfectant
Haven't seen folex mentioned yet. Used to use it when I was a janitor. It will get ANYTHING out of fabric. Okay almost anything. It's phenomenal for carpet spot cleaning
Soilove is also wonderful for laundry stains. Folex has always come through when a pet peed on the floors.
Folex is my go to cleaner for upholstery and carpet. Not sure that's where this thread is headed but indeed, a great product.
Vinegar, so many uses!
I agree, vinegar and a good all purpose cleaner for those need some scrubbing help. Vinegar will disinfect anything, hence why they use it in hospitals for cleaning :) There are some diy vinegar mixes for cleaning too if you don’t want to get and ap cleaner. https://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Vinegar-Cleaning-Solution
Vinegar will disinfect almost nothing but it will cause finish problems on counters and cabinets due to the acid.

Key Considerations for Bathroom Cleaning Tools
Multi-Surface Cleaners: Look for effective multi-surface cleaners that can tackle soap scum, mildew, and hard water stains. Products with bleach or vinegar can be particularly effective.
Scrub Brushes: Invest in a variety of scrub brushes, including:
Microfiber Cloths: These are excellent for wiping down surfaces without scratching. They can trap dirt and bacteria effectively and are reusable.
Grout Brushes: A specialized grout brush can help clean between tiles and remove stubborn stains from grout lines.
Squeegee: A squeegee is essential for keeping shower doors and tiles free of water spots and soap scum. Use it after each shower for best results.
Sponges and Scouring Pads: Choose non-abrasive sponges for general cleaning and scouring pads for tougher jobs, ensuring they are safe for your surfaces.
Steam Cleaners: For a deeper clean, consider a handheld steam cleaner, which can sanitize surfaces without chemicals.
