TL;DR For fair skin, consider blushes in soft pinks, purples, and berry shades. Brands like Phytosurgence, Fenty, Dior, NARS, and MAC offer suitable options.
Application Techniques
Application technique is crucial when using blush on fair skin. Many users emphasize the importance of a light hand to avoid an overpowering look [1:3]. Using tools like fan brushes can help achieve a subtle application, especially with highly pigmented products
[1:4]. For those new to blush, starting with a palette that offers multiple shades can be beneficial for experimenting with different looks
[1:3].
Recommended Shades and Brands
Several shades and brands are recommended for fair skin. Soft pinks and muted purples are popular choices. The Fenty cream blush in Cool Berry is highlighted as a good option for fair skin due to its cool mauve/purple tone [3:1]. Phytosurgence's Condensate and Wisp are also recommended for their natural-looking finish
[2:2]. For those preferring powder formulas, NARS Sin and MAC's Breath of Plum and Desert Rose are suggested for their berry tones
[5:2]
[5:5].
Exploring Neutral and Muted Tones
For individuals with neutral undertones, finding a truly neutral blush can be challenging. Korean and Japanese beauty brands often offer more muted tones suitable for light skin [4:2]. Products like Dasique's Muted Nuts quad provide a range of neutral shades that work well for very fair skin
[4:3]. Additionally, purple-toned blushes can add a touch of color while brightening the face without overwhelming it
[2:4].
Berry Blush Options
For those specifically seeking berry blushes, powder formulas like Essence Pure Nude in Berry Cheeks and Tarte's Natural Beauty are recommended [5:3]
[5:7]. These options provide a long-lasting flush that complements fair skin tones.
Additional Considerations
When selecting a blush, it's important to consider not only the shade but also how it complements the rest of your makeup. Cool blushes can clash with warm lip colors, so ensure that your overall look is cohesive [2:4]. If you have olive undertones, exploring blushes designed for fair olive skin may yield better results
[4:5].
Hello I need some help with finding a blush with color pop blush. I’m trying to find something that looks natural with my skin tone, possibly the same I could layer for a more dramatic look with some make up with over taking it. (Ironic) either something overpowers like it is to bright of a pink or red or some colors I use aren’t enough. I’m very pale. I get told quite often I’m the definition of porcelain. I don’t find it that fun To be pale. I really need help! blush isn’t something I’m good at! Any recommendations taken! An swatch pictures are helpful. Thank you!
It’s all about the application of it, any soft dirty pink and red will look nice if apply really lightly. Bright pink and orange can work as well if you apply lightly and have a make up that fit with it. (Else it will make you look like you fail tan or try to look like a barbie) I’m not sure if it<s still available but Disney designer belle blush is a really nice colour for fair skin
Thank you I’ll check on the availability. I just might be choosing a too dark of a pink and not be applying it dark enough! Thank you!
Oh ! Your probleme is that it's not showing off ? That pretty rare on fair skin. It's either your brush that is no good or the blush itself, howeve rmy experience with colourpop blush is that they are super pigmented
I’m pretty fair, and for me it’s more about application than color. Use a light hand and make sure everything’s blended. Early on, I bought a blush palette with six or eight shades. Playing with those colors helped me get comfortable with blush.
I’m fairly ok with doing light applications I just really having a problem with finding a good product that will work I live in a small town there’s not a big option in person. I also run in to problems with only since some websites don’t do on site swatches. I prefer blending with my fingers or a fluffy brush.
I've pretty pale myself and was always turned off by blush. A lady at Ulta talked me into trying red, and I love it. Reds and oranges are my favorite colors to wear. It's easy to get a light flush or a dramatic look
Do you have any product recommendations? That you have used.
I'm super pale, and I love ther tiniest hint of clinique cola pop. But I also have a lot of colourpop blushes and they can be very sheer as well. Use a fan brush if you have one.
choose the colour you naturally tend to flush :) use a light hand when going for something more natural and pack it on for more of a dramatised look
Thank you! I’ll try that!
I heard that blush is necessary for us because we lack redness in our skin to look put together. Maybe it because I’m over 30 but when I put blush I feel like a clown. I need to mute it down. I think the best blush for me is barely there in berry shade. Do you guys have this too?
I’ve never cared for blush before aesthetically but given its recent resurgence decided to give it a try. I’m extremely muted and pale so most colors of any sort look clownish on me, but Phytosurgence Condensate was an absolute game changer for me. Now I have a bunch of other Phytosurgence blushes: Exothermic, Fume, Evaporate, and also Dust which I don’t wear on its own but use to mute down other colors (it’s just grey).
Seconding Phytosurgence! I’m cool and muted, and Condensate and Wisp are both natural-looking everyday blushes on me.
Sadly Wisp was a touch too bright and cool on me since I’m extremely muted and have cool undertones but warm overtones
yeah i get that, finding the right shade really can change how u feel about blush, sounds like those muted tones work perfectly for keeping it soft n natural
Third Phytosurgence. Would also recommend Steam for muted fair olives that lean warm or neutral; Fume can be too saturated and Condensate can be too cool.
Only when wearing foundation not a sheer bb crème do I need blush. Color, amount, and placement is key for blush to not have a clown effect. If you’ve tried different placements and build up the amount lightly then you’re using the wrong shade or product (powder vs liquid) for you. Or it doesn’t suit the rest of the makeup look. A cool blush with warm lips and base is gonna look off.
Purplely blushes are great for us imo. I have a lavender one that adds just a touch of color and brightens my face.
I use the Jones Road bronzer in dusty rose as my blush. Have to use a light hand and tap off any excess because it can be very pigmented. Maybe something muted like that will work better for you! I don’t like anything bright either, it makes me feel like I’m playing dress-up lol.
Yep, muted blush that’s almost there but it makes a difference !
I think you need to go with shades that are super cool and muted. Like purpoe blushes. Have you tried Fenty cream blush in Cool Berry or Hourglass Mood Exposure?
I will warn that they are really pigmented so you have to be light handed in applying but they sheer out beautifully!
I do, too! It’s a perfect shade for my neutral skin
You really can’t mess up with a very light purple shade as it’s lightly pigmented. If you aren’t as advanced in makeup shy away from highly pigmented or bright blushes. Also blush goes higher than you think and isn’t intuitive. If you use a liquid blush applying setting powder over it will diffuse it slightly making it more wearable. A small amount on the cheekbones blended up towards the temples. Don’t apply more in than the outer corner of the eye.
Purple blushes for fair skin
Hi all! I’m new here and on a journey to find my best colours (both in makeup and clothes). My skin is very pale right now because I don’t really spend much time in the sun. My skin undertone is quite neutral but leaning cool with an olive overtone (I’ve been told and it seems to be correct based on the makeup/ colours that suit me).
I always used to use peachy blushes🙈 and I really want to try out a purple blush, which I think would suit me much better (both liquid and powder) but not sure which to go for. I’m assuming that because I’m pale I should probably go for one of the lighter colours. The purple Clinique doesn’t seem to be available anywhere in the U.K. which would have been one of my top choices.
here are some of the options I found:
Liquid blushes:
Powder:
Are any of these good or are there other ones I should look at? Thank you!☺️
Dior Berry is really good! I love how cool and muted it is, although since it is quite dark you would need a very light hand. It’s beautiful on the cheeks, one of the most unique purples out there. You might also want to try Pink Lilac.
I have the Etude luvistrue blush and it’s the non-shimmer version of aurora chandelier. Idk if it’s still available though.
Flower Beauty Blush Bomb in Bubbly is like the liquid version of Pansy Pop. It’s definitely cooler and more lilac irl.
I feel like the Rare Beauty blushes are so pigmented and Faith just might be too much. How about Nudestix in Moodie Blu instead?
Hince True Dimension Layering Cheek in Refinement is a cheek and powder duo. The cream part is a sheer and balmy cool berry while the powder is a muted pink. Both of them combined, so gorgeous and moody.
I haven’t personally tried it but Canmake has a cream blush in lilac. I’ve heard great things about their formula.
Ah great I was worried that it’d be too dark. That’s really helpful- I’m a soft summer too and was a bit worried I’d end up with something that’s too war. Thanks🙂
Idk anything about these blushes but just wanted to say maybe consider some k beauty blushes? A lot of people say they’re very sheer, and that’s been my experience too with the one k beauty blush i tried, but it seems like they might be perfect for you since you’re very fair. Plus they’re affordable which is nice when you’re experimenting with a new color.
Some purple k beauty blushes I’ve seen on Yesstyle that look like they might be what you’re looking for: •Lilybyred luv beam cheek balm in #05 Cheeky lavender ($7.02) •The saem saemmul single blusher in PP01 Orchid rumor ($3.80)
That’s a good shout, thanks! I’m overdue an order of some Korean skincare so I could add a couple of blushes to test out
The Glossier one is good. I don't love the Rare one and the Dior blush has zero pigment. Do you have Nudestix in the UK? Their blush stick in Moodie Blu is my favourite. It looks scary in the tube but is very natural and flattering on.
Good to know, thanks! Not sure about nudestix but will have a look- I think I may have seen it somewhere on TikTok!
I can’t speak to any of the ones here since I haven’t tried them but I highly recommend the Dior rosy glow in pink lilac!
Oohh thank you. I didn’t even consider that one because it looked very pink on website photos but review photos make it look a lot more purple. Thanks😊
Do try it— I’m fair AF and it was great. Did not buy bc i wanted to give cream a whirl instead of powder
Try Fenty cream blush in Cool Berry. I think it is more suitable for fair skin than Drama Class. It is a bit more muted, like a cool mauve/purple. I have light skin tone and can't really wear it during summer as my skin tans too much for it to be distinct. But love the shade during winter when I am more "olive" as paler. Dior also launched their classic Rose Glow blush in Pink Lilac. It is not like violet but more pinky lilac as the name suggests. And Nars afterglow liquid blush in Wanderlust could work.
Ah ok makes sense. I recently did a colour analysis and was told I’m a muted summer so I think the muted purple would probably work well. Thanks!
Do yall have any drugstore & more high end blush recommendations for neutral very fair skin?
Warm blushes look too warm on me and cool blushes look horrendous , so it’s been very difficult finding a pretty blush that is neutral .
I have very fair skin that is neutral / with the SLIGHTEST lean towards warm, but not enough for truly warm blushes to look good on me.
Any recommendations would be so helpful! 🙏 I’ve never been able to find my right colors 😭 and I need help
Check out Korean/Japanese brands, they are affordable and generally have more muted tones for light skin. I just picked up Daisque's Muted Nuts quad the other day on Prime sale it might be up your alley. Im also super pale with yellow/green undertones so anything that's too warm looks orange, lavender blushes work really well for me also
Yeah idk a specific one to recommend because I'm cool / fair / muted, but I can say K, J, & C beauty have the best blushes! Some of my fav brands for them: Joocyee, Romand, Peripera, 3CE, Flower Knows, IPKN, and Apieu's Juicy Pang.
Very hard for me to find as good of blushes or foundation in the West.
That’s the exact one I mentioned too! I love mine!!
You should look into Asian Blushes. They do a lot of neutral and cool tones!
If you want a SUPER neutral/pale blush try Dasique Blending Mood Cheek Blush Palette in the shade “Muted Nuts.”
Hear me out… blushes for fair olive skin. You give me the vibe that u may possibly have olive skin.
I like Mac’s true harmony!
Not trying to chase you out of this sub, but you might also cross post your question in r/PaleMUA. Odds are higher that a pale neutral like you will see it and have a recommendation she knows works for her.
I'm very fair, but have cool undertones, so any shade I suggested would be guesswork. As a pale girl though, I can recommend L'Oreal True Match blush as to formula (this kind, not the 24-hour matte one which is too bright: https://www.lorealparisusa.com/makeup/face/blush/true-match-blush). It is not super pigmented. It leaves just enough color behind to keep me from looking dead.
Essence Pure Nude Baked Blushes are more pigmented (so tap off your brush and use a lighter hand), but they have some light shades that shouldn't leave you feeling clownish: https://www.ulta.com/p/pure-nude-baked-blush-pimprod2037419?sku=2603025
Covergirl Cheekers have some more subtle shades: https://www.covergirl.com/face-makeup/blush-bronzer/cheekers-blush
In general, I find powdered blushes are the way to go for my pale skin. It's easier to control how much you're putting on your face, and to me, they are easier to blend out.
Another option is to forego blush and use a lighter toned bronzer, instead of blush.
Thank u so much! I’ll have to do another post there, I just checked and I can’t cross post on there for some reason 💛
Looking for a berry blush rec for fair skin.
Preferably POWDER formula.
I’ve been seeing a lot of cream/liquid recs but those formulas just don’t last on me!
Nars sin is my favorite but a light hand is the trick with it.
I’ve been eyeing NARS Sin for the VIB sale but thought it might be too deep on me? If all it takes is a light hand, I may have to try it!
I like it because it’s like blush and contour in one, it’s a beautiful flush look
essence pure nude in berry cheeks!
I’ll take a look!
Mac breath of plum is what I use
MAC desert rose is my fave berry blush :)
tarte natural beauty - longwearing and beautifully natural like the name
I had originally put up a post with date cake on fair skin and decided to show plum. I did go heavier handed and left the rest of the face more bare to showcase it. I love it. I have light rosacea and this looks like a more intense version of my already natural flush. 10/10 for fair skin.
It looks so good on you! Im definitely a plum girl 😍
Need this!
Do u prefer this or date cake more
Date cake 100%
Convinced me!!
miss plum really doesn’t skimp on the pigment. I barely get any product and she is there. The color is amazinggggg
Hi everyone!
This might be a silly question, but I have to ask. I know for very fair skin a cool toned bronzer looks the best. Does that same rule of thumb apply to blush ?
imo yes, i use lots of purple / berry / fuschia blush, like:
fenty "drama class"
nudestix "moodie blu"
revlon balm stain "smitten"
milani "blushing berry"
(i use this lip as a blush) kvd "lovecraft"
if you look good inthese, and you have any others I should check out, please let me know. i love blush.
It's pricey, but have you tried NARS Thirll? It's a very cool toned pink blush. I also tend to prefer purple/berry blushes.
i have not but the bubblegum color reminds me of Glossier's puff which looks good on me! i'll check it out!! thanks :)
MAC “full of joy” is my favorite purple/berry blush
is this discontinued? I don't see it anywhere :/
Thank you! Unfortunately, in the 2 yrs since I posted this response, many of these blushes have either been discontinued or reformulated terribly (like Dior's Rosy Glow) but those still available include - Milk Lip & Cheek & ABH (both cream sticks) and Flower Beauty Blush Bomb & Iconic London (both liquid).
I'm more than happy to send you an updated list with some new favorites, if you'd like. Just let me know if you're looking for specific colors or just cool toned options in general, as the person asking this question wanted.
I think I use more true neutral blushes than cool toned, though I do own a fair bit of both. Peaches and tan colors with a hint of peach/pink compliment my features since I have very fair cool toned skin, but dark hair/eyes. Muted brown-red's applied lightly also works. There's a nice balance to it. When I go for cool tones, I usually go to lavenders, because pinks just seem overdone on me? I've got pink undertones and some how it seems less natural than a light peach shade.
What are some true neutral blushes you own? We are have similar coloring. Always looking for recommendations-can’t get enough blush
I've got a lot, but my favs:
3CE Nude Peach & Mono Pink - Very subtle light powder. I prefer the peach but the pink isn't so pigmented that it looks off on me.
EmCosmetic's Rose Milk - I always say "This is Keira Knightly's blush." Lol. It is a serum though so doesn't really dry down, but doesn't take much. One of the few I've panned.
Heritage's Baby Neutral - There's some western brands with the same brand name, but I'd look on Yes Style if interested. It's a peach powder with a hint of brown.
Juicy Pang Serum Blushers in V02 & V03 - These are similar to EmCosmetic's, but I find they dry down, just takes a bit. While both appear lavender in the bottle (which is why I bought them), on application V02 is a very pretty cool pink, and V03 is a soft peach. V03 I may end up panning, it just looks so natural, I reach for it a lot.
BBIA's Last Blush 02 Lavender Blossom - This is a true lavender shade which I've had a very hard time finding, lol. It's very soft, a bit glowy. One day I should make a list of all the lavender blushes I've tried, 'cause it's not short.
Clinique Cheek Pop's in Black Honey - It's a browny red that leans red. Very nice for subtle application, but I like this as my grunge-mood blush. Their nude & pinky-lavender shade is pretty nice too.
Honorable Mention - Romand (Rom&nd.) They have so many soft peach and pink shades, and they are pore blurring too. The first two from the Neon Moon collection are favorites, though I don't think you need both, as they are pretty similar peachy shades. I'd just go through them as a brand and see what peeks your interest, 'cause I love them, lol. I just haven't wore them a lot lately like the others mentioned.
I have a cool undertone and warm tones make me look sick so I avoid peach, terracotta, rust, orange and some brown shades and anything with gold shimmer, like Nars Orgasm and Milani Luminoso.
Most of my blushes are cool toned so you've come to the right place!! I've been in a bubblegum pink blush phase for a while due to my love of Dior's Backstage Glow in Pink. I bought it when it first launched but as usual TikTok ruins everything and it's hard to find now. Spot on dupes are: Nars Thrill, Fenty Bikini Martini, Flower Beauty Blush Bomb in Bubbly, Milk Lip & Cheek stick in Swirl (if you can find it) and Clinique Pansy Pop can work in a pinch.
My other most loved cool toned blushes are:
I also wear nude blushes that don't lean too warm including:
I know I threw a ton of info at you here but I try to give as much info as possible since the majority of people prefer to shop online now.
**If I had to give you my top 3, I'd steer you towards Dior's Rosy Glow in Pink, Buxom Seychelles and ABH Latte but, you can't go wrong with any shade of Clinique Cheek Pop or Laura Mercier Color Blush Infusion, with the exception of Clinique Nude Pop and LM Fresco as those shades have lots of glitter.
Wow! Thanks for your in depth info. Are these blushes okay for 45 year old skin?
It depends on your undertones for both! Regardless of how fair you are, if you have cool undertones cool toned makeup will look more flattering, and if you have warm undertones then warm colors will flatter you more. But anyone can really wear anything, it’s all down to personal preference. I’m fair and cool toned and have been experimenting with warmer bronzers and blush to flatter my red hair, even though cooler tones look a bit more “natural” on me. Makeup is about fun and experimentation!
I am very dry and sometimes a bit flakey because I am in tretinoin.
I am shade 3 in Armani Lumionous Foundation so I am very pale and have neutral/warm undertones.
I want something that looks natural my budget is around 50 dollars.
I am interested in Rare beauty and Nudestix but I am open to most blushes.
I live in Sweden so not all brands are available here.
BH cosmetics. When you’re super pale you want to avoid the shimmery blushes, as your drier skin will make it look cakey, kidlike, and kitschy. They have 4 color matte blush quads that I swear by. Try the vanilla cream truffle blush palette.
The rare beauty blushes are great! You literally need a single dot (at least us pale girls). It will last you a lifetime.
If you want powder I also really like Hourglass blushes. Milani also has good blushes and they come in very light shades that would work for even the palest skin.
I have Joy and the new 3 piece holiday set of the Rare blushes and they are all really pretty! For the coral shade I especially like it applied with a sponge it diffuses the color really nicely on pale skin.
I like tea rose in the Milani blushes if you like a nude/pink
Hourglass basically all of them! I think they would all work for pale skin except for “At Night”
Also if you’re struggling with blush options because you’re very pale and things look intense pretty fast I would recommend a really lightweight loosely packed blush brush which should help!
Glossier cloud paint! Also Clinique cheek pop has very light colors and is very smoothing.
I second Clinique Cheek Pop!
I'm pale AF (Irish) and I use Benefit Dandelion. Just started wearing Illamasqua blush in Tremble but it requires a VERY light touch and I wouldn't dream of putting it on without daylight because I'd 100% look like o was shot with a makeup gun!
Edit: I forgot about benetints also! They can be pretty handy as blush/lip tint!
Nars orgasm - very universal shade, get the liquid version. I adore it! So easy to use, a little goes a long way, and it's perfect for dry skin (the liquid formula).
I got the liquid and it looks amazing on me but it gets so messy though with the applicator! Is it just me or is the bottle like that?
The bottle is slightlyyy messy as in the liquid leaked out from the pump a bit, but if you stick to using the pump and not taking the entire cap off you should be fine. I wipe the lid if it gets too finger printy.
Bliss is a really nice natural shade!
I'm trying to declutter and simplify my makeup but every time I do this I get stumped on blush. I have cool undertones with visibly blue veins, light skin, blue eyes and medium brown hair with some rudiness in my face.
I'm wanting a blush that looks natural but I keep going back and forth on should it be on the cooler side or does warmer look ok on me? Should it be bright or more muted? I want a beautiful, harmonious look that would probably be described as "clean", the "your skin but better" look. I think my challenge might be my medium contrast. Bright colors, while they look fresh, just draw too much attention to the cheeks. Muted colors can really suck the life out of me. I can't seem to find the right balance.
Anything with the slightest orange in it seems to "sit" on my skin and be noticeable. I've learned that when that occurs then it's not a good undertone match.
Any guidance would be much appreciated. Some of the swatches I intentionally built up so they would show in photos. I would not apply them this heavy.
what's your natural lip color? I personally find that matching my blush to my lips makes it look natural.
My lip color is also throwing me off in my blush color selection because they are a muted mid-tone mauve and when I try to match them in a blush it seems to suck the life out of my face and appear too "heavy".
I feel like the muted colors—specifically, Milani Petal Primavera and ColourPop Cool It—look the most natural against your skintone in these swatches. How do these translate on your face?
I feel like my skin brings out the coral/peachy tones in these two, which surprised me because in the package the Coloupop looks like it'd be a great match.
That's totally fair, and is why I asked! I've had my fair shade of blushes and lipsticks that look reasonable on my arm but goofy on my face, though in my case they skew bright pink.
I think going for something more medium purple might work well for you, in that case. Essence Goldy Cassis comes to mind for an affordable option, and a baked formula like this one generally is hard to overdo. The purple tone will help hedge against the blush skewing orange on your face, and a bit of depth will help maintain balance in contrast without being too loud.
Of these swatches I think the Milani Dolce Pink looks the most natural.
It does look nice. I just wonder if the gold reflect in it is best for cool undertones.
Sometimes a little gold can actually work nicely on a cool skintone, and I say this as a person who despises gold usually. You can have a soft cool gold, if that makes sense, and it warms you up a little without making you orange.
That Dolce Pink looks like I imagine your skin would look if you sat too close to the heater, so it's a very good shade for you.
I think your blush should be very very light, for your skintone. Essence Lovely Lilac looks best to me.
I’d argue it’s worth keeping one cool and one warm option. It allows for more versatility when making looks. Go with whatever coral you think looks best (maybe the cooler one of the group or less saturated) and your favourite cool one. Relative temperature rather than your “colour” is more important with makeup.
Yeah, this is what I'm thinking is the path I'll need to take. Maybe even two that could be mixed to be a more neutral temperature if needed since none of these feel spot on to me.
