TL;DR
Affordable Brands and Models
When it comes to budget-friendly Bluetooth speakers, lesser-known brands often offer excellent value. For instance, the Tribit Stormbox Blast is noted for delivering performance comparable to higher-end models like the JBL Boombox 3 but at a fraction of the price [1:2]. The Tribit X-Sound Go is highly recommended for those on a tight budget, often available for around $25
[3:1].
Anker and Earfun Options
Anker's SoundCore series, including the SoundCore Boost and Motion Boom, are popular choices for budget-conscious buyers seeking reliable sound quality [1:4]
[1:7]. The Earfun Uboom L also stands out as a strong contender in terms of price-to-performance ratio
[1:6].
Specialized Use Cases
For audiobooks and podcasts, smaller speakers that don't emphasize heavy bass are ideal. The OontZ Solo is praised for its clarity with spoken word content and is available for under $20 [4:3]. The JBL Clip is another compact option that users find suitable for voice-focused media
[4:4].
Considerations for Sound Quality
While budget speakers can offer good sound quality, some users may prefer options that allow for sound customization. Speakers like the Harman Kardon Go Play series provide deep bass and high-fidelity sound, with companion apps for EQ adjustments [5:1]
[5:2]. If portability isn't a concern, powered bookshelf speakers or models like the Audio Pro Addon T3+ might be worth considering for superior audio clarity
[5:4]
[5:5].
In summary, there are numerous budget-friendly Bluetooth speakers that cater to various needs, whether it's for music, podcasts, or general home use. Lesser-known brands often provide excellent value, and exploring options beyond major names can lead to satisfying purchases.
Thank you!
Earfun Uboom L
Thank you for your contribution! Just out of curiosity, why is everyone suggesting names I’ve never heard of? I am surprised the likes of Sony, Bose etc aren’t listed
Price to performance, those brands that you have not heard of, are just better than those big name brands.
For example the JBL Boombox 3 cost $500 dollars, the Tribit Stormbox Blast often sells for $169. The Tribit performance about 90% of the Boombox 3, so the big price difference doesn't make sense.
Because you asked for an economical speaker.
Light operating Chinese based companies that don't have strong brand to upcharge and a large headcount/R&D to maintain. Some products nail the value proposition. It's the same everywhere where they enter the market really. On competitive online stage it's easier to get recognition, also Amazon allowing easy entry into different markets. I remember 5 years ago Xiaomi was import hardware only. Now they're massive globally.
Anker soundcore boost.
Motion Boom.

Basically the Uboom L
What’s the best Bluetooth speaker for home use that offers great sound quality and reliable connectivity?
If you're looking for something that really delivers solid sound quality, I'd recommend the JBL Charge 5. It’s got a pretty neutral sound profile, so it works well for most audio content, whether you're playing music, podcasts, or watching videos. The PartyBoost feature is also nice for pairing multiple JBL speakers if you ever want to expand the setup
That sounds good, but I’m not looking for something too big. I’m mainly using it indoors, so maybe something smaller but still good quality?
In that case, the Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) could be a great option. It's more compact than the JBL, but still delivers clear and balanced sound with decent bass. Plus, it has PositionIQ technology, which adjusts the sound depending on its orientation. whether it’s standing, lying flat, or hanging. This ensures optimal sound no matter where you place it in the room
Hey guys, not a huge music listener, but wanted something for my living room that was on a budget. Doesn't need to be insanely loud or anything, but the more bass and less volume distortion at high volumes, the better. I'm just a student so my budget isn't anything wild and I'd prefer if they sold the speaker on amazon. Let me know if you have any suggestions for a speaker with good bass, moderately high volume, and no distortion. Battery life isn't a huge factor as I'll likely just keep it plugged in on the counter. Thanks in advance!
Tribit x-sound go can go on sale for $25. One of the best budget BT speakers imo.
Hi All, I used to have a JBL Flip 3 which was great for audiobooks as the sound was not consumed by the speaker trying to do everything with huge bass. Unfortunately it has gone to heaven ! Does anyone know a good, long battery life bluetooth speaker which is great for audiobooks and podcasts ? For example, I have an original Apple Homepod which creates enormous presence and music sounds amazing, but put on spoken word like books and podcasts there is too much bass so you cannot really hear the voice clearly. Thanks in advance !
I have a monster rove speaker in my bathroom that I use to listen to books and podcasts. It’s compact, affordable and great for non music things.
I have tried them all, but this is the best for voice, small, angled speaker (if you listen in bed) and independent volume. OontZ Solo, and it is under $20 on amazon. https://a.co/d/3vTBQQq
I have a JBL clip and it's perfect for that
I second that
Thanks folks for all your ideas and opinions ! Looks like I'm staying with JBL, will try out the clip :-)
Honestly, go to Walmart and get a small tabletop Onn speaker. Or if you want a few steps up and get some added features such as charging output port to reduce cord clutter, you can go on Amazon and look at something such as Tribet Stormbox.
Both offer user friendly playback control buttons.
Hi, Most of the Bluetooth speakers I’ve owned have been fine for background noise, but when I actually sit down to listen, they sound muddy or too bass-heavy. They give that tinny crappy sound, not what im after.
EDIT: Picked up a Bluetooth speaker yesterday, tried it with acoustic and electronic tunes, delivers clear sound without muddiness or too much bass, highly recommend!
I’m looking for something that can handle a mix of acoustic and electronic music without distorting, and I’d rather have clarity than sheer volume!
Portability isn’t a huge deal since it’ll mostly stay at home, but decent battery life would be nice so I don’t have to keep it plugged in all the time. Budget’s flexible if its the real deal, please share your favourites Thanks
I am pleased at the sound quality of a pair of HK Go Play speakers. I have the original version, not even the newer upgraded version and they sound fantastic.
If you want beautiful sound coming out of a small portable speaker try the B&O A1 2nd gen. You can surely get a discount and that makes them a great choice. They are IP67, which makes them great for bath times too.
If you don't care much about portability, nor being water resistant, the HK Onyx Studio are great too. I prefer the 8.
What is the budget?
Why not use some powered bookshelf speakers?
As others mentioned the HarmonKardon go play is a popular indoor speaker. Deep bass, hifi sound.
What you looking for could be something like Audio Pro Addon T3+. Portable bookshelf speaker
to add to the other commenters here, who've all made good suggestions including the HK Go Play series (the Onyx series are good to), and the JBL Authentics. Try and get a speaker with a companion app that lets you eq the sound to your preference. Sometimes turning down the bass is enough. If you can't get a speaker with a companion app, a third party eq app like powerampeq will do a similar job. :-)
I'm just looking to see if i can find a small speaker that doesn't have shitty quality but doesn't break the bank. Not sure if its even possible to get okay quality out of anything less then 80 dollars, but does anyone have any suggestions?
There's quite a few options depending on the size you're okay with. There's the $50 after coupon codes Uboom L which is generally best in size class, or if you don't want to deal with flashing with a PC, the $60 Soundcore Boost
Or the larger with deeper bass $80 Motion Boom which is also a great sounding great value
Here's all battery powered bluetooth speakers ranked with comparison videos in the highest upvoted post of all time in this sub: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bluetooth_Speakers/comments/z8bs6o/ranking_all_battery_powered_bluetooth_speakers/
I have liked the Wonderboom 3. Solid indoor speaker with a balanced sound.
I know the reviews on Earfun uboom have been good.
UBoom L for portable, really good for $60 with the Oluv firmware.
Motion Boom for more bass and still a great sound. $80. Pretty portable but not as travel size as the UBoom.
thank you
For 80 dollars, you can get the soundcore motion plus.
This is the cheapest bluetooth speaker i found it on youtube review
Hello, I want an inexpensive (not cheap in a bad way) but decent bluetooth speaker.
I was looking at an Anker Soundcore Select 4 Go, if it's not good, keep that as size reference.
It'd my first bluetooth speaker so I really don't know much.
I hope you can help me a bit, thanks!
Xiaomi Sound Outdoor 30w. Bluetooth 5.4.
It's very often on sale for around 30-35€. Very nice speaker for this price.
If it's too big,go for the Select 4 Go.
How does it sounds, compared to other speakers? How’s the bass?
It basically tries to imitate a JBL Flip 6 at lower costs. It's a lot better than the Select 4 go
I have this speaker, and for the price, it's pretty good. Better than the JBL Go 4 IMO
Thanks, can I ask you what colour you've got? I like the colorful ones, but I wonder if they get dirty easily due to them being light colours
Weird question to ask I guess ahah
I got the blue. Wanted the white, but it wasn't available when I purchased mine.
Skullcandy ounce. On sale for $21 On Amazon now.
Is it better than the soundcore one?
There prett6 similar, the skullcandy is a little smaller.
I have 2 Anker Soundcore Select 4 Go speakers, (blue and black) paired in TWS (True Wireless Stereo). Sounds so good in a noisy professional kitchen, 2 coworkers bought the same models. The black is on only $19.99 @ Amazon for members. You won't get good bass from any small speakers but for that price it's more than adequate. https://a.co/d/581Mdok Amazon link
Thanks!
How cheap is cheap?
Do you want a single speaker, or a stereo pair?
Do they need to be portable?
Check out the Kanto line. Made in Vancouver BC by Japanese immigrants. Cheap entry level speakers that can run optical cable for sound to your TV, RCA for your turntable, and Bluetooth equipped. I think my pair were like $220 new. Couldn’t be happier, and they’re sleek as hell.
Going to guess you mean stereo pair and say these:. https://www.edifier.com/us/en/speakers/r1280db-bluetooth-bookshelf-speakers-built-in-amplifier-coaxial-optical
Can confirm for those Edifiers. They are very edifying.
What's your price?
Edit:
Home or portable?
if its for indoor use, keep in mind you can basicaly make any speaker "bluetooth" by buying something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Adapter-Streaming-Wireless-Speakers/dp/B016NUTG5K/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=bluetooth+receiver&qid=1614029345&sr=8-3
Hi all, I've been reading reviews and am having a hard time picking out a portable bluetooth speaker. I'd like to set a soft cap of $60, but if a $40 speaker will meet my needs just as well, all the better.
When I listen to music it's mostl indie and acoustic stuff, typically at moderate volume levels, but realistically this will be used mostly for playing audiobooks and YouTube content. When I'm home I have studio monitors I use, but occasionally I'm working on a project (say, in the garage) or camping, or maybe down in the basement and want something better than my phone speaker. The closer to neutral the sound, the better (no overwhelming bass). Clarity is more important than volume. Water resistance is nice in principle but will likely never be used. USB-C and a 3.5mm jack are pluses.
Thoughts?
I would like to suggest the soundcore flare mini (49.99 CAD), its not type c but the sound quality is better than some soundcore has to offer over 100+ CAD. I had the soundcore motion+ ( Very bass heavy, i hated it. ) and compare to flare mini, it sounds neutral.
I have the Soundcore Motion+ as well, and the Soundcore Rave Mini but they are more than the $60 cap OP stated so I didn’t mention them.
Sounds like what I'm looking for.
I'm a fan of the tribit maxsound plus. I have the older model and think it sounds great for the money. The new one allows you to pair up two if you ever wanted to buy a second one further down the road.
I've read they're a newcomer and make some pretty comparable products to the established brands, just at lower prices.
The Anker Soundcore 3 is $50 and has USB C but I prefer the Anker Soundcore 2 for $40 even tho it has a micro usb port for charging as I feel it has better battery life over the Soundcore 3, I own both and like using my Soundcore 2 a lot more, but that is my opinion on the speakers that I have. The Soundcore 2 has an 3.5 mm Aux port where the Soundcore 3 does not.
I'm looking to buy the best portable Bluetooth speaker and could really use some real-world advice. I want something that sounds amazing but won't break the bank, you know, that sweet spot where good sound meets decent battery life. I'll mostly be using it for hanging out in the backyard, beach trips, and maybe the occasional picnic, so something durable (waterproof would be awesome!) and easy to carry would be perfect.
I've been eyeing popular brands like JBL and Sony, but I'm totally open to hidden gems that might not be as well-known. What's been your experience? Any models you absolutely love or ones to avoid?
My must-haves:
Budget-wise, I'm flexible but ideally under $400 unless there's something really special a bit above that. Thanks in advance for your help.
Get a pair of Soundcore Boom v2's at Costco for $99 each. They will be on sale for $69 on the 30th of this month. I just got one and I'm nothing but impressed with it
I have the select pro, it was 100$ (got it on sale for 49$) and it’s going 4 years strong! Sounds great, waterproof, can even connect up to 100
I know a good number of people really like the Soundcore Motion 300 and 600. I have heard other models, and they are legitimately good. A while ago I saw a Wired Magazine review of the Tribit Stormbox 2 and slightly bigger ones like the Tribit Blast. The reviews were excellent.
Personally i find the x600 awful. Charge 5 comes to mind given your requirements or even soundlink max.
I was looking forward to hearing the x600, why didn’t you like it?
Its gotten quite strong treble
B&O A1
Bose SoundLink Plus, seems to check most if not all boxes from OP's post. It's a bit pricey ($269) but within the posted budget.
