Monopoly Deal is great. Approachable, fairly short, and competitive. Really worth it. Everyone I know who has played it was surprised of how good it is.

Echoing Thunder Road. Easy to teach, learn by playing, competitive game that it’s impossible to get salty at because the game is inherently unpredictable. I’ve played it a couple dozen times, usually teaching others, have only ever won once myself, but everyone always had a blast.
Skull is a quick teach and fun time for all - same with Love Letter.
Abducktion and Tiny Towns are a little more puzzle-y, but I’ve played with a wide range of people who have enjoyed them.
Glad to see an Abducktion mention. Wonderful little gem of a game that gets even the usually less think-y players all thinking multiple moves ahead. And the toy aspect is hard to hate on.
I find Skull to be really hard to teach to all new players, but if you can just watch a round of people playing it then you get it.
The first time I played Skull the group I was playing with didn't tell me the rules and I did fine so I'm not sure you even need to watch a round.
To give an alternate take on Flip 7-it’s a solid game if you have (a) players playing quick and (b) a lower number of players.
It’s so frustrating to bust early and be eliminated from the round and just watching others play. Similarly, getting Frozen. The Second Chances are a good thing to have, but it also removes your one decision in the game, because with rare exceptions you’ll always want to hit with it. The x2 is incredibly strong and CAN lead to dramatic moments… or it can lead to somebody lucking into a huge amount of points.
If easy-to-teach push-your-luck card games were hard to find I’d not be so critical, but there are just so many better games in the same genre. I’m glad you’ve had consistent luck with it though!
Camel Up is always a hit at our table. Easy to teach, funny moments, plays fast.
Flip 7 has been a massive hit with everyone I've played it with, from age 5 to 60. It's the first game I've bothered sleeving because of how much use it gets.
I've found it very group department. MOST groups I've played with like it, some love it, but there's one or two groups that hate it. I like it... But more so just to get the group going. We use it as a fun starter before breaking out into groups for other games. It works best, I think, in larger groups.
My great hope is that it replaces UNO as the quick card game almost everyone owns.
I go to a board gaming cafe on Fridays for new gamers and usually bring King Of Tokyo, Rebel Princesses, Trio, Spyfall, Codenames and Tsuro.
Flip 7's best feat is the no-setup, very little overhead rules to learn, and ease of bringing new people in between rounds. Depth and longevity is super low in my eyes.
Worth noting I like a game where decisions are more agonizing. Examples: Incan Gold, High Society.

I make games that use a standard deck of cards. Currently I am needing people to play so I can reform the rules and get feedback besides myself and a few close friends.

custom scoundrel additions: (combining all of the other customs rules from other ppl including some of mine)
jokers as merchants: when coming across a joker/merchant you can use it/discard and sell a weapon, which will give you health depending on the lowest rank monster that that weapon has killed, and the weapon rank if it hasn't killed any (kinda making killing an ace with a 10 weapon give the 14 hp cause of its sheer glory and history from the blade) merchant will also leave if the room is continued and it is still in the room (last card in the room)(if you want to add some chance you can roll d6 or other d and if its even it sells the weapon no biggie and merchant leaves, but odd destroys it instantly and instead of gaining the lowest monster rank in hp you gain it in damage and merchant leaves aswell either way)
face diamonds as blacksmithes: when coming across a face diamond/blacksmith, you can use it/discard to essentially repair a weapon which will remove an amount of monsters killed from it going smallest/recent to biggest/oldest J - 1 monster removed Q - 2 K - 3 A - 4 (if you want you can add the ace)
face hearts as armor/temp hp: when coming across a face heart/armor you will be able to equip it into an armor card which will be automatically used when taking damage and discarded after any proceeding damage to block some of that damage (being able to be combined with weapon blocking negation) J - 1 hp block Q - 2 K - 3 A - 4 (if you want you can add the ace)
single companion slot for one anytime use merchant or blacksmith (self explainatory)
single armor slot for one anytime use armor piece (self explainatory)
secondary dagger slot (weapons equipped here can't be above 6 rank)
you can use, collect, or attack any amount or times before running, (e.g. i use 4 health pot to recover 4 hp then run from enemies
you can also quick use blacksmithes and merchants (immediately using them as they are in the room without equipping or overriding a companion equip)
you can only bare hand attack a monster if you don't have both your primary weapon and secondary dagger slots equipped a weapon

I love board games but at this stage of life struggle to find time to get a crew together to play. I’ve resorted to trying to play some of my favorite games solo until I learned that they actually make board games intended for solo play! And there’s a subreddit!

Eldritch Horror is amazing in building an atmosphere. Sadly that atmosphere is hopelessness :p so if you like a full day challenge fighting cthulhu that's an awesome game.
Arkham horror similarly had high replayability but without a board. Very customizable to your taste/difficulty.
Mage knight is great too. Imagine taking a planeswalker and leveling them up while you battle monsters and take over castles to fight dragons.

It's a card game but unlike Magic, the packs are predetermined sets. Loads of campaigns and expansions to tickle your fancy.
That, Marvel Champions and Lord of the Rings are hugely popular LCG (Living Card Games). They're all really well received as solo games and many people prefer them that way. Added bonus you can also play with others if the opportunity arises.
As someone coming from years of Magic The gathering, Marvel Champions was exactly what I wanted. All the fun of the deckbuilding without the cost of booster packs. You'll still end up spending a lot but it's nothing in comparison to a TCG.
Marvel Champions is excellent, you can buy the core and only what else that speaks to you, I have one other box and another dozen heroes, not nearly all of it. Watch a few solo plays on YouTube.
Coming from tcg, I really enjoyed arkham horror
If you like Dominion you might like Star Realms: Frontiers.
Both are based on the same "Ascension" deckbuilder concept with the trade row and "money cards"...etc
In Star Realms the trade row is not fixed tho
Same goes for another Ascension-like dekcuilder: Shards Of Infinty, in that case you can either buy expansions for solo play or lookup the solo play rule online
As you mentioned Magic, I suggest LOTR lcg it's solo mode is very similar to Magic gameplay
For games like Magic The Gathering, The Lord Of The Rings LCG is the closest thing I've found to scratch the MTG itch in solo form. Also the often recommended here Spirit Island while it's not as much of a card game, it weirdly feels like MTG to me quite often, with the cardplay and combat system.
For games like Betrayal at House on the Hill I can recommend any of the Arkham games. Mansions Of Madness might be the closest thing, but I quite enjoy Arkham Horror 3rd Edition, and the Arkham Horror LCG is basically a cross between Betrayal and MTG.
If you like Dominion for the deckbuilding aspect, two other deckbuilders that work well solo are Aeon's End and Imperium Legends/Classics/Horizons. I sold Aeon's End because after 50 or so games I'd gotten sick of it but I still recommend it, especially to newer solo players. Imperium feels infinitely replayable and crazy deep strategy-wise - although it's also pretty dry and mathy but if you already enjoy Dominion you'll be used to that. Unlike Dominion though it feels like there are more in the moment decisions rather than Dominion's coming up with a plan based on the market and just executing it to the best of your ability almost on autopilot (I exaggerate but that's how Dominion often feels to me)
