Heihachi Mishima
Heihachi is a fan favorite and has been a staple character since his debut. Many players express strong loyalty to him, citing his iconic status and the satisfaction they get from playing him [1:3]
[1:5]. His return in Tekken 8 was met with excitement, as some players indicated they would stop playing if he were absent.
Steve Fox
Steve is another popular choice among players due to his unique fighting style. As a counter-hit (CH) character, he offers tools that allow for varied timing and attack strategies, which keeps gameplay dynamic and engaging [1:4]. Players appreciate his versatility and the ability to change plans mid-fight.
Shaheen
Shaheen is noted for his stylish moves and versatility. Players admire his aggressive fighting style, cool aesthetics, and the variety of tools he possesses for different situations [1:2]
[1:12]. Despite not being overpowered, he remains a solid choice for many loyalists.
Newcomers: Reina and Victor
Among the newcomers, Reina and Victor stand out. Reina is praised for her unique personality and combat style, which uses Taido—a martial art not seen in other fighting games [3:1]. Victor's design is likened to characters from other franchises like Metal Gear, though some players feel his katana is unnecessary and detracts from his overall appeal
[3:3]
[3:11].
Character Design Opinions
Tekken 8's character designs have received mixed reviews. Some players believe the designs are the best yet, highlighting characters like King and Yoshimitsu [4]. Others feel that certain designs are overdone or lack the personality seen in previous iterations
[4:2]. Lili's glow-up from Tekken 7 is particularly appreciated
[4:1], while Hwoarang's new look receives criticism for lacking depth.
Overall, Tekken 8 offers a diverse roster with both beloved returning characters and intriguing newcomers, catering to various player preferences and styles.
Last time I asked for the characters you dislike the most, this time the opposite. Who is your favorite and why?
That one came out of nowhere but I respect it
Thanks. He’s completely under the radar for coolness and it shocks me.
The dude does side-changing backflips off you, surfs on you, slides your neck like a skateboard into the ground, flies like an eagle at you, does 360 degree slapping twists, backhand slaps you, slides underneath you, he’s aggressive, he punches like a mofo, he’s shredded, he’s got some of the best customization, he vaguely has an assassins creed feel, his moves all look good/stylish, he’s got a tool for just about every situation, he’s not broken OP, his fans are loyalists, and he’s just that cool man.
People are sleeping on Shaheen.
Heihachi !! Been maining him since Tekken 3. I was very upset that he was not in Tekken 8 initially but glad he is back. The moment he is not in Tekken, I will stop playing completely. No other character satisfies me as much as Heihachi
Heihachi is a great pick and he's super Iconic
I keep learning other characters and always coming back to Steve. I'm good with him and I like how as a CH character, he has tools that perpetually allow him to change his timing and plan of attack
Like the dedication towards your character. And I agree Steve is awesome
Xiaoyu. Shes been my fav since her debut.
She's unique I can get behind that and she had an awesome fit in t4
Nice! Yeah shes fun to use.
Johnny Cage
Best Tekken character oat
Bob, Nina, Asuka, and Alex.
oh my... Bob first 😳😅 i hate him lol. why? I'm very curious
I find him to be a good joke character and an interesting concept of “what if a fighter wasn’t buff and toned but was still good at fighting?”
1.Leo
2.Yoshimitsu
:D
Why Leo? I Am curious
I find his moveset pretty fun and in general he is pretty fun for me Even more after i saw his potential in the recent twt
Alisa, Yoshi, Anna n zafina probably. I don't have many favs but I don't dislike a single tekken character
Wang Jinrei
incredible. very different, I also like the old man. we, his fans, are not many, unfortunately.
Sucks that they apparently killed him off in his T6 ending
I’m not going to sugarcoat it!
I hate and love how you can say that as a valid answer
Victor can drop that katana would be cool.
I was thinking the dame thing earlier today. If he dropped the katana, plus he had less teleporting moves/animations, he would be way more likeable to me.
Victor is a mish mash of Noctis+Kunimitsu, but I also saw some Soul Calibur in latest gameplay videos, where he has Setasuka moves and Mitsurugi stances
Glad so many people think this, I love me some high tech kitana blade cheesiness but I think he’d gel a bit more if he was just a suave old John Wick/Sam Fisher mix.
Yep, that's the part that annoys me the most about Victor. They had 90% of a fantastic character design, and then it feels like Harada asked his 9 year old nephew to come in and finish it off with some crayon.
The katana just looks goofy and seems out of place with the rest if the character.
Azucena’s design and personality could be a bit better, but I think she has the most unique fighting style I’ve seen in tekken in years. Her movement and counters are a lot of fun to watch and I’m excited to see if any top players use her in tourneys
design fine, personality is 100% bubbly coffee. I find her super meh/cringe for that reason.
Its not like Hwoarang only talks about motorcycles or Lily about tea. They actually have some depth
Completely agree with everything you said.
I get it that her fighting style is fun, but I absolutely cannot stand her hollow personality. Her whole "coffee this", "coffee that" persona is just so devoid of substance. Wished we had an in-game option to mute her.
I literally see Latin friends on a weekly basis and none of them sound as cringey or as irritating as Azucena when speaking in Spanish.
There are so many thematic swords they could have gone with. A Chevalier sword, as you said to go with his name that could have been an artifact from his ancestors. It could have been a Crusader sword for the same reasons, A Rapier for duelling if they wanted him to be quick, which clearly they did with him teleporting, A Musketeer sword, and he could also allow his two (or three) best students to carry them, It could even have been a modern french Naval officer's sword since he was in the navy.
But no, Laser katana. You'd think I'd be happy with a laser Katana, but it just doesn't fit. Especially since he trains bloody ninjas, not samurai.
Victor looks like a side character straight from Metal Gear Rising Revengeance
All mishimas(except Lars) are arrogant, it doesnt mean they are all the same.
With that said, Asuka is not arrogant, IMO. She has a strong sense of justice and careless behavior. For example, when she says "Dont hold back", its more like she needs prove herself. When Reina says that, she feels more like "Im gonna kick your ass anyway, at least make it fun"
Reina's personality is still a mystery tho. We've only seen part of it.
Reina. Simple, but very effective and appealing design. Her personality is unique...there is no other female character in the series similar to her. I love her voice, btw. Her combat style is cool and very unique too. No character in FGs uses Taido, so that alone makes her original.
Victor. Character design is very good. I think, it'd be better without the Katana. I love his personality, I think that the VA nailed it. His combat style is a little bit overdesigned. It is very flashy, tho.
Azucena: Character design is okay. She being on Kazuya's side makes her more interesting, in terms of personality. You never thought that a person like her could be a little evil. Her combat style is good. I like her dancing moves lol.
IMO Reina is, clearly, the best. Day one main for me. My only complain is her DF2, it needs to be nerfed.
In my humble opinion, even though this is my first Tekken, but I still have a good knowledge of the previous games, would Tekken 8 have the best character designs?
For me, one of the biggest design successes was King's cover and Yoshimitsu's new appearance. Even other characters also have characteristics that I consider more striking and that suit them
Nah, some are solid but most feel like a downgrade to me. A lot of the outfits feel overdesigned even by Tekken standards, especially for returning characters, and a lot fall under the category of "the old design but with small arbitrary changes that don't quite work", which makes one wonder why they didn't go for entirely new ones if they didn't want to keep the old outfits.
It doesn't help that for some reason, namco seems to really like having trends across all characters which makes them lose personality. In T7, everyone suddenly got longer versions of their traditional outfits so they would show off the cloth physics and in T8, it's random ribbons and straps.
And speaking of over-design, there's also a weird contrast between the less realistic style they're going for with this game versus how absurdly detailed and wrinkly the faces get when the male characters make any expression.
And I say the males because the female characters, at the other end of the spectrum, have had their facial features airbrushed out of reality (and don't get me started on my main Lili losing her distinctive looks and instead looking like Generic Anime Girl #9473).
I have to go with jin or law
I will answer that after Armor King release. T7 AK is the goat so far.
Most of them have had better looks, I’d say T4 has the strongest designs (and despite everything Tag 2 had some amazing ones too)
Lili in t8 is absolutely perfect gorgeous wonderful amazing phenomenal outstanding beautiful incredible, the glow-up from t7 is ESPECIALLY stunning.
Hwoarang's new look is incredible too but I his outfit is pretty boring. I wasn't entirely on board with t6 and t7 looks but they really fit his character and told you a lot about the character, in t8 his clothes don't really express anything beyond his martial art. It would be cool if that change was paired with some story content showing him becoming a more Baek-like character stepping away from his edgy rebelious personality but nah.
I like Alisa's new look too. Even though she's still the same boring kawaii robo girl personality-wise, her new look is gorgeous. the longer hair and dress are a wonderful evolution of her original look and her wings look super pretty too.
Overall I’d say Armor King, if I’m taking aesthetics, gameplay, watchability etc into account.
He’s got the sickest intros and outros in the game, and is basically a crossover between King and a Mishima. No beating that.
Same here... I was a Feng main but switched to AK. I love King and I love Mishima's so that wasn't hard xD He's too sick!
And one of the best RA start-up poses.

Gigas. Feels so good to win with him.
Negan
but in general i think King is the coolest dude since i first saw him in T3. dem sneakers man.
Kazuya
Probably Akuma. He made me not hate Street Fighter that much. Completely ignored that franchise because Tekken is just the best Fighting game ever. Hope I can replace Akuma with Kunimitsu soon...
I'm very happy to see another Munenori fan 🫶
another yagyu fan!
MY FELLOW YAGYU FAN. I FOUND A BROTHER
Me too!
This is sorta lukewarm
‘Lets see how much interaction I can get with this bait post’
How is it bait?
None of these seem that bad. It's really not a bad list. Just average. Only "bait" is putting no personality Mushashi so high up
I'm fairly new to tekken and I was wonder what characters would fit my playstyle? I usually play bully characters with good midrange neutral pokes such as Alex from SFV or Marisa in SF6. I also play vira in granblue, troubleshooter in DNF duel, Hilde in Soulcalibur 6 and jack-o in strive(although I'm not a fan of setplay but i like her defensive zoning)
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Reina seems like she'll be able to go between being frame-oppressive like her dad Heihachi, and backflipping around between evasive stances.
Oh, and she also has throws for almost everything, which is nice.
Jack 8 or Reina looks like she's going to be a bully through and through
Interesting, I never even considered Reina. Jack-8 looks so much more fun and less rigid than Jack-7. I'll check them both out. Thanks!
Based on what you say, I'd recommend Jack-8.
Feng
Bryan- Bully, mid range pokes, strong lows, +F moves, is an absolute sadist.
I just came back after playing the game at launch, wtf did they do to him ;-;
after weeks of the community asking to nerf him, the devs decided to cut all his limbs off and took away everything he owned
Nope, Yoshi was nerfed. Shut that narrative down now
It ain't happen yet and I don't think the nerfs they've already announced is enough to really drop him down a ton.
He might still be a top 10 character for all we know. We have to wait for the full patch notes.
They nerfed his damage, health recovery, and increased recovery of flash….. if you still struggle against him, it’s a skill problem. People gotta face the facts at some point
People are jumping the gun overreacting to everything else, but now it’s “let’s be patient before we prejudge the Yoshi nerfs” lol. Unreal
Do not forget the endless crying over Marduk in T7 and they never nerfed him, in fact they buffed him. All I’m saying don’t be surprised when he’s not nerfed.
I played Eddy and I realized I love very easy goo goo haha characters. I have always played easier characters but now I wanna go full easy barely any execution characters
I'm trying to find a character to main
Victor is easily number 1 easiest character in the game
3ddy is not agreeing with you. But he is the second easiest for sure.
Let's talk about Feng. For me, he's extremely convenient and easy to use, but that's because he's been my main character since Tekken 5. But what about for a novice or someone from outside? Is he difficult to use?
Strong low game, b1+2 being a really good whiff punisher and a strong 13f punisher move, good get off me tools like b1, f1+2, backsway move, easy high damage combo, strong heat move that gives free 50/50 up to range 2.5 and can sometimes high, in build ss move forgot the input uf1 or uf2 and kenpo stance help new player create whiff punish or backdashes without kbding
Simple gameplan with good moves basically and has alot of ways to get out of pressure for new players
Parliamo di feng appunto. Per me è estremamente comodo e facile ma perche è il mio principale da Tekken 5. Ma per un neofita o esterno? È difficoltoso?
Victor, Asuka, Lars, Eddy, Alisa
As a Feng main just do TIO and win
Bro is victor really that easy 😂🤣
You have a full neutral game with three moves
wr2
db4
b1+2
When in heat, add u1+2 in there
Not really. He carries the early ranks and that is where most of the hate for victor comes from because cheese still works. At intermediate to high ranks you actually have to think what move to use and when. He becomes hard the higher you climb. If you want easy low rank, sure take victor, if you want easy in higher ranks, victor won't cut it anymore. You'll get sidestepped and ducked all the time.
A Feng main that disagrees 🤯
until they add Miguel back.
Miguel got his revenge, but it didn't make better.
He's done.
I wouldn't say that. In he's character ending for 7 he may have beaten jin but when he realised that Jin didn't care if he died and that he truly didn't deserve death until Jin is filled with hope again, then that's when he wants to take him down he really wants Jin to feel true loss for taking away he's sister.
I mean you could say that about Steve, he found out who he is and whose genetic mother is and that she doesn't care about who or what he is so why continue he's story? he's a fan favourite so now he's trying to find a new purpose in life to move on.
At the end of the day I'm not too bothered that he's not in the base roster but I think it's weird that he's in the game where Jin is barely in the main story of 7 but is absent in the game where Jin is front and center considering he's connection to Jin.
He didn't get his revenge, he just put in on hiatus. Jin was such a pathetic wreck at the moment he got to him that killing him wouldn't be satisfying. Miguel basically told Jin to fix his life up so he has something to lose and THEN he'll kill him.
Yoshimitsu
Yoshimitsu has me so hyped can't wait for his trailer
I’m so god damn hyped for yoshi in T8 👌👌
Eventually, everyone just like any tekken game tbh
This. If you only play 1-2 characters then you haven't played tekken enough.
After seeing how crazy they made the first 19 characters, I can't make decisions about about who I'm gonna play until we see the rest of the trailers. I might even be excited to play fucking Shaheen at this rate.
I only play Shaheen so I can get fundamentals right and then play a better character
Jin chose Hwoarang
Kazuya, Jin, King, Jun, Paul, Law, Jack-8, Lars, Xiaoyu, Nina, Leroy, Asuka, Lili, Bryan, Hwoarang, Claudio, Azucena, Raven, Leo, Steve, Kuma, Yoshimitsu, Dragunov, Feng, Panda, Lee, Alisa, Zafina, Devil Jin, Victor, and Reina.
