TL;DR
Nfinity Shoes
The Nfinity brand is frequently mentioned as a top choice for bases due to its lightweight design and excellent grip. The Nfinity Evolution is highlighted for its robust sole that provides great grip during stunts [1:1]. Additionally, the Nfinity Beast is another popular model among cheerleaders
[1:3]. While some users have noted issues with Nfinity shoes breaking down quickly, others emphasize that proper care can extend their lifespan significantly
[4:1].
Rebel Athletics
Rebel Athletics shoes are also a strong contender, particularly for bases who need additional support. The Renegade high tops are praised for their durability and ability to prevent ankle issues [2:1]. Many teams have switched to Rebel shoes because they tend to last longer than other brands, often making it through an entire season without needing replacement
[2:4].
Alternative Options
For those on a budget or looking for alternatives, TriXstar shoes from Australia are noted for being affordable and long-lasting [5:1]. Additionally, checking platforms like Facebook Marketplace or Poshmark for lightly used shoes can be a cost-effective way to find quality footwear
[5:2]
[5:5].
Considerations for Outdoor Use
If your cheer activities include outdoor performances, it's important to choose shoes that can withstand such conditions. Nfinity Flytes and Vengeance are not recommended for outdoor use as they can wear out quickly on pavement [4:5]. Instead, consider shoes like the Rebel Ruthless, which are better suited for sideline cheer
[4:5].
So I’m in need of some new cheer shoes, like the title said I am a base. I’d like something that has a lot of grip because I am constantly slipping 😅 I’m also a non tumbler (like I literally do not have one skill in my routine except for a forwards roll) lastly, they have to be white.
i rlly rlly love nfinity! its so breathable (its more of a flyer shoe so its thinner but i love it as a base)
nfinity beast
Baxinier is of really good quality, I recommend you to check it out.
Nfinity
A big standout is the Nfinity Evolution, it is lighter yet robust, and it has a sole that gives bases great grip during stunts.
Hiya! Does anyone have recommendations for cheer shoes? I currently wear the Nfinity Flytes and I get terrible pain in the inside of my foot(like the arch area) I need to buy new cheer shoes anyways because my team needs shoes in a diff color for uniform. Any reccs plsssss? x (also would prefer if they were available in New Zealand due to crazy shipping costs overseas but if the shoes are super good i’ll consider 🫶)
Are you doing all star or sideline? You would want very different shoes depending on what kind of surface you're using them on. What level tumbler are you? Are you a flyer?
I do both but will probably use them more on my all star team, Im also a level 3 tumbler and a base ☺️
My daughter's favorites are flytes, but probably for the exact reason you hate them. She loves that they're almost like socks. She had some rebel revolts that she hated because they had too much support, so they may be a good choice for you. We bought them based on advice from other cheerleaders. She's a L6 tumbler and backspot.
Rebel shoes last the best imo, my daughter is a base and has had some ankle issues in the past but after switching to their renegade high tops she's been problem free!
okay interesting! i’ve never tried rebel before but ive heard that they’re pretty good. i’ll look into them :)
Most of our gym has switched over. We can get a full season out of a pair of rebel shoes where we were doing 2 pairs a year of Nfinity or varsity shoes.
We get a new pair about a month before Summit every year so they have time to break in and be fresh for Summit and they last through until that time next year practicing 3x/week for 5 hrs each day plus comps.
I’ve had the nfinity fearless shoes for about 3 years now, I got them used from my coach after she found out I couldn’t afford shoes at the time. She had them before me for also about 3 years if not more, still work like a charm tho admittedly they look like they’ve survived a war… I never had any issues with them, tho now I got the Kaepa Seemless, the quality is great but I don’t really like the look, but Kaepa has different shoes that might be to your liking.
Before you go for new shoes, my daughter had an issue with that part of her foot, and it was because she wasn't stretching her feet enough.
Try a sports physio therapist before you shell out some $$$ for new shoes.
Alpha is another to explore
the nfinity alphas?
What position are you?
i’m a sidebase+ tumbler :)
I have cheerleading tryouts for my school soon and I was wondering what type of shoes should I wear for tryouts. Id would love some recommendations! It doesn’t matter if their cheer specific shoes or not since it’s just for tryouts but I would love to know what shoes you guys recommend!
Cheerleading shoes. I recommend something that supports the ankles;
Nfinities or Rebel Athletics shoes. I use the Rebel evolution shoes and the Nfinity Beasts but those are more expensive than the regular Nfinity vengeance. You can't go wrong with anything from Nfinity, Varsity is a brand a lot of Hs cheerleaders use.
In short brands I recommend:
Varsity Nfinity Rebel Athletics
Tysm!
Idk if you tried out yet but regular tennis shoes are fine. I wouldn’t spend a ton of money on shoes because your team might have a specific pair of shoes they want you to have if you make the team.
Champion is another brand to check out
I wrote an article about a week ago listing the top 5 cheer shoes of 2023
Hope that helps. Good luck at tryouts!

My shoes are eleven years old now, so they’re getting a bit worn down and I’ll need new ones soon. They were amazing Nike’s - super durable and good arch support - but it looks like Nike doesn’t make cheer shoes anymore. I don’t know where to start. My coach made us all wear varsity shoes one year and they were TERRIBLE, and my friends that had Nfinitys broke down really fast. Anyone have good recommendations? I’m a flyer so I don’t want anything too chunky.
Nfinity shoes are my go to, my whole cheer team uses them. They're a bit dearer but definitely worth it.
I'm also amazed that your shoes lasted so long!!
11 YEARS? i've never heard of cheer shoes lasting that long. i like the nfinity flyte, they're really light weight and it's easy for your bases to get a good grip since the material is so thin.
as long as you take care of your nfinity's (don't wear them outside), they shouldn't break down really fast.
I mean it when I say they’re the best cheer shoes on earth. I only did competitive high school and college cheer and used them for dance classes, never all star cheer, so that might be why they’ve lasted for so long. I think I’ve just been so spoiled by my shoes that I’m afraid to get new ones! That’s good to know about Nfinity’s though. I’m only doing adult cheer once a week now, but we perform on pavement a lot (marches and parades). Would they be good for that?
Sketchers, Reeboks, Nike, are the best cheer shoes imho
no. the flytes and vengence are not good for outside cheer, they tend to get destroyed really fast on pavement. they're really only meant for indoor cheer on mats. i know a girl who uses rebal ruthless for sideline cheer. i don't know how well they held up for her but she was a base/flyer and really liked them
nfinity vengeance are my go-to
The adidas triple cheer shoes are great - I think they’re a good kid between something flexible like nfinities but they have more use outside of cheer, durable enough to wear to the gym
I have varsity Aeros, pretty lightweight, I like them.
Do they have good arch support? That was the problem the one time I had Varsity shoes because I have crazy flat feet. I think they were probably the lower end option though.
I have super flat fleet too. I think they are okay ish but I do have orthotic inserts in them and it works for me!
Hi! I'm on a non-tumble team this year and my team uses black cheer shoes. I can't afford to spend $120 on a new pair of cheer shoes but I need something that won't fall apart a few months in. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!
check facebook marketplace! That’s where I got my backup pair of cheer shoes, and they were nowhere near as expensive as the retail price.
hey doll!! if you don’t want to spend the full price please look on the groups on Facebook, people are always selling black cheer shoes for cheaper (unused & still in the box) Xx
I'd go to Omni cheer. They have a GK for $62 and a chasse for 45. Since you aren't tumbling, these should be totally fine.
I got a pair of Rebel shoes for my daughter off of poshmark for $25. They're out there! Just look around for lightly used shoes! The quality is worth it.
TriXstar shoes are an affordable option. They're an Australian brand that ship to multiple countries. They're quite long-lasting, and a lot of teams seem to be choosing them over the Night Flytes these days.
Want new base shoes. Choosing between:
Allbirds Golf Dashers -OR- New Balance base shoes
I currently use Allbirds tree dasher 2’s which are very similar to the golf dashers but lack lateral support for the foot. These are quite comfortable and somewhat less flashy than typical umpire shoes. I do up to high school…
Whaddya think? Will the allbirds be good enough for infield grass/dirt? Comfort for standing? Other suggestions?
Birds $145 NB $90
I wear the New Balance. They’re comfortable for standing and have synthetic uppers that wipe clean easily and can be polished in a snap. They’re not super stylish, but you’ll be working the bases, not a Paris runway. Any kind of cloth or mesh upper like the Allbirds have is going to get dusty the first time you do a game and you’ll never get them black again.
I wear Nike Metcons. I also work out and play pickleball in them. Comfy for me with a good amount of support.
I'd go with the NB. My current base shoes are the NB from 2 generations ago. I've called closer to 1,000 games in them, have never replaced the insoles. Legit the most comfortable pair of shoes I own (all shoes not just ump shoes).
Love to hear it! Which model if you don’t mind sharing :D
It was the NB 950 v2 Mid Cut Baseball Shoe.
That version has been discontinued. Not sure how the v3 feels, as I'm still wearing my old v2
My only issue with these is that my feet burn up in them.
That'll happen with any solid leather in summer.
Hokas.
Bottom of feet was the only thing not recovering after long weekends.
Hokas fixed that. A bit pricey but there’s a reason you see them everywhere. I’d pay another $100 for what they did for me.
Listen, im a 42 year old Dad so take my suggestions with a grain of salt because we Dads are required to sign a contract with them to promote it….
I will never not buy New Balance shoes again.
Can confirm. Full foot insole with heel inserts and my feet still hurt like hell after only 3 games. Never ever buying NB again.
So recently, I've gotten into a fair number of heated arguments with my teammates over what the best shoe is.
Some of them are saying aggressors, some are going inflicts, my coach, is saying rulon's, and this one kid said JB's. So, to end these arguments once and for all, I'll be resorting to Reddit of all places.
What shoe is best in each 5 of these characteristics?
Durability
Grip
Feel
Looks
Overall Performance
I liked ASICS as they fit better for my wide foot. And it had to be split sole.
Adidas and Nikes always ran narrow for me. Best you can do is order online from Amazon for easy returns to try different ones on. Went to Academy to get some for my son and they only had 2 different styles to pick from.
Durability - Matflex
Grip - Aggressor
Feel - EX-EO
Looks - Spartan Combat Yianni’s
Overall Performance - black Nike SpeedSweep, and here’s why: if you step onto the mat wearing those, you have already mentally broken your opponent. They’ve got you pegged as a complete psychopath who would rather be out there barefoot. Nothing they do can weaken you mentally since you’ve demonstrated that you have the temperament of a brick.
Great list!
… except for the Yiannis. 🤮
I have a soft spot for purple & gold shoes. They can be hard to come by.
Correct Answer: you’re all idiots if you’re getting into heated arguments over shoes. I don’t understand the new focus on shoes amongst my wrestlers. They are basically a fashion accessory… they’re all basically the same when it comes to performance. I have over a dozen pairs that I’ve received for free. Some I like better than others, but when it comes down to whether or not they make any difference in a match the answer is absolutely not.
Yes and no. Some of it comes down to preference, some like a lot of grip some like a split sole, some like a light weight shoe. When it comes down to it it’s preference. I was always someone that wanted a shoe that could breath well so my feet didn’t feel hot.
Now when it comes to color ways and such I agree with you, but finding a shoe that fits your foot and your needs well is something that is helpful.
Examples include, not feeling like you have bricks on your feet, high ankle support, good grip, etc
Probably mostly right, but there is something to say for the difference between a Combat Speed and a shoe like Rulons/Aggressors. Do you want to slide while on the edge of your soles or pressure in? I guess it depends on the person, their skill level, and wrestling style. 9 out of 10 out of time, it wont matter.
Go for Kivaj-KB22 if you are looking for something new, lightweight.
Anything from Nike, ASICS, or Adidas is more than good enough. It just comes down to personal preference and fit after that. I personally prefer Adidas because I like the feel and the look, and they run killer sales from time to time. Just on looks though, I think the ASICS neon yellow split elite is on top right now, followed by a well done Ex-Eo colorway.
Anything from the wrestling only brands is going to be over priced and lacking in quality assurance/control.
So I am a new coach this year and when we had tryouts I was expecting to have 2 other girls be on my team who would main base. They decided not to continue with the team so now im short on main bases. I put two sides as mains and thats going well. I do however need another because I have 4 groups and only 1 true main base. I tried this other side base as well as a backspot and it didn't work. I am now resorting to one last backspot to see if they can pull it out but im just still so worried because if it doesn't I have no other options......
I have a whole team of flyers. But we are a public Title 1 middle school. Sometimes you just get what you get.
We own an all star gym but I don't coach any of those teams.
I do volunteer coach a few teams with the community rec league.
In the rec league it is legitimately "you get what you get and you don't throw a fit".
The tricks I've come up with to get stunts out of kids who can't lift, can't stand, can't count together... It's like Cutthroat Kitchen cheer style. 😅
I actually put them in groups by size. The littlest girls with littlest girls. My group of babies had the most solid stunts. Of course that only consisted of preps and extensions but they were the only group to get an extension. I was very proud of them!
Same 🤣 - my girls wouldn’t know the difference between a main and side base if it jumped up and down in front of them. 😅 The bases just seem to understand “5, 5-6-7-8 HEAVE HO!”
It’s good if people know how to stunt in multiple positions and don’t build their identity at cheer on being in a single position. Teams are always a puzzle piece depending on the athletes you get that year so IMO it’s better to get the athletes used to stunting in multiple positions early on so they become adaptable and well rounded for the future. If athletes know what the other positions are doing it’s also easier to work together and save stunts.
You can always simplify the stunt until the girl you’re having learn a new position gets comfortable in that position. Or is there anyway the girls on your team know someone who might be interested in joining the team?
If the girl that’s currently a backspot can’t make it work as a main base, you can always go down to 3 groups for performances. You could also see if you can get more groups by doing two-base stunts or if you have 4 girls left over see if you can have two shoulder sits instead of one stunt and then you’d have 3 stunts and 2 shoulder sits. Otherwise they can also do choreo with poms if you’re a sideline team or dance/tumble if you’re a competitive team while the 3 stunt groups stunt.
i've used volleyball ones but they are not that slippery when i want to glide my knees apart or when i'm on all fours. i usually use a metal stage pole so that might be less slippery than a wood floor. what brand do you guys like that also don't hinder sliding during floor work?
If you can stomach the price, the Tatiana knee pads are the slippy-slidiest ones I’ve ever tried - and I’ve heard similar from others who have tried them.
Otherwise I find Queen to be a good balance of slidey but also stable when needed.
I like Queen kneepads too.
You can also try wearing leg warmers over the knee pads, always looks nice and slides. I like the pole tribe ones on Amazon
How are BeesKnees?
I like my queen grippy kneepads! it slides well on the floor and you can also do leg holds with it
Hey yall, I have a question. Which shoe will yall pick for outdoor games,
NB Two WXY V5 Or LI-NING Wade Fission IX (9)?
I am a point guard size 10/10.5.
What yall think?
Fission 9 has a super durable outsole
I played a lot with the Fission 9 outdoors. I am a center, 6'8" and 220lbs. I dont get why people say the shoe has minimal cushioning. It was more than enough for me. Its not low to the ground either, and the traction is still solid with dust.
Overall Performance: wxy v5 Longevity (how long the performance will be on top shape): fission Durabilty: fission Comfort: wxy v5
The Fission 9 are going to last much, much longer, both the uppers and the sole are more durable, its a huge difference for the uppers. My Fission 9 have some marks now after over a year of outdoor use. My WXY have marks after a couple months of INDOOR use. Still great shoes.
Just keep in mind that the Fission 9 are a bit Higher to the ground than the WXY. But they have insane grip.
How’s the cushion? Seems like that’s the biggest flaw
I think its more than fine, i got back to dunking on these, and im heavier than a normal person.
Wade fission
Best cheerleading shoes for bases
Key Considerations for Cheerleading Shoes for Bases:
Support and Stability: Look for shoes that provide excellent ankle support and stability, as bases need to lift and catch flyers. High-top designs can offer additional support.
Grip and Traction: A good outsole with grip is essential to prevent slipping during stunts and routines. Rubber outsoles are typically preferred for their traction.
Lightweight Design: Choose lightweight shoes to ensure that bases can move quickly and easily during routines without being weighed down.
Cushioning: Adequate cushioning is important for comfort, especially during jumps and landings. Look for shoes with good shock absorption.
Durability: Cheerleading shoes should be made from durable materials to withstand the rigors of practice and performance.
Recommendations:
Nike Cheer Unite: These shoes are designed specifically for cheerleading, offering great support, traction, and a lightweight feel. They also have a stylish design.
Asics Gel-Excite: Known for their cushioning and comfort, these shoes provide excellent support and are durable enough for cheerleading activities.
Chassé Cheer Shoes: These are often recommended for their affordability and performance. They offer good grip and are lightweight, making them suitable for bases.
