Stay away from S series, green lines guaranteed down the line
But these are their flagship series, right ?
Is this a issue for all S series or exclusive to some particular model?
my brother's S24 ultra has a green line, the green lines arrive only on the S series so please stay away from them, my S23+ has got three green lines too.
My S22 base is 1.5 years old. Luckily, I did not get a green line until now, despite updating the phone every time.

Pixel 9
any particular reason to choose pixel over s24 ?
UI, in device ai, camera, battery
I'm currently using a pixel 9 that I bought 2 weeks ago and it's been doing great with android 16. No lags, doesn't heat too much like my iphone 14 pro. Camera is great for an android phone. Haven't seen many reports of green line either. Overall, I would say the pixel 9 has a better value for money than the Samsung phone.
Battery?
please don’t talk about battery when its pixel 😂
Go for pixel
I'm moving into my own apartment, and I'm finally going to get an actual surround system in my new living room(I'll be going with the Q900D, that seems to be the general consensus best overall pick). But I also have the luxury of having a small game room, and I'd like to get a soundbar for that. I don't have the room for speakers, nor a subwoofer(I have the physical room, but it'd be placed somewhere ineffective, so I'd rather not pay for that when it won't be used properly). Is there a soundbar only version of the Q900D available? Is there anything else that's just a solo soundbar that would be recommended? Thank you!

Hi
I am an absolute noob in this topic
I have TCL 65C6K and want to get a soundbar for this TV
As I see best budget one on the market is HW-B650 which supports 3.1
An alternative is 2.1 TCL S55HE which makes more sense since I have a TCL TV and it will sync with my TV speakers using TCL Tutti Choral. This is my main argument for buying TCL S55HE
So I am really in pain choosing between 3.1 system and the one that supports sync with the TV since it's same brand (is it really a good feature? as I understand that if I get samsung soundbar my TV speakers will not be used at all, correct?)
Any advice on what I should get or maybe there is a 3d option?
What's your exact budget?
The max budget is 250$, HW-B650 is around 200$ in my city
Do you have this vizio in your city by any chance?
Love the fit!
maya finally met the world
she's bloody earned this
I wonder if her and farkle interacted cause he was there as well
He was on stage during Conan gray performance
he's one of her best friends, i'd assume they interacted.
YESSSSSSSSS!!!
That dress is absolutely stunning! Damn she looks good!
Yes! Her makeup was also so good. Loving these wins for her.
it’s been so wild watching her since her disney days 😭 i feel like a proud mom (she’s older than me lol)
she is stunning! i’m so proud of her. i’ve been following her since girl meets world and i feel like a big sister in a way (parasocial whatevef). man’s best friend is brilliant and i’m just so happy to see that she’s finally being appreciated after being around for such a long time.
Looking for the best soundbar I can get for $200-$300 for an apartment. I’m not looking for magic in this price range just a nicer movie upgrade over the poor sounding muffled bass heavy speakers on my tv. I mostly watch movies in 4k.
ive been pretty happy with ax5125h from hisense - it has atmos - it was black friday when i got it for $249

Lg sn9yg with the rears, got mine for 200
LG S80TR - check for promos or refurbished ones.
Amazon soundbar plus, $179.
Hey guys, so I am currently searching for a small speaker or soundbar that is around 1-2k. I currently have Edifier R1380 which sounds really amazing for its price, but the longer I use it and stare at it (bec its placed besides my monitor, an ROG XG27ACS for reference), it's kind of getting nuisance because of its size.
Maybe you can suggest a decent one, not really to the the level of R1380 its producing but good treble and bass for movies and triple A games.
Thanks!
Edit: Oh I prefer rectangular shapes than circles bec of uniformity
Cheap, good sound, small size. Pick any two.
Basically what’s the best soundbar system I need suggestions for both surround sound soundbar system and also the best single soundbar (it’s for a small bedroom)? I’m not looking for a sound system requiring a receiver for a number of reasons, just the best soundbar system.
Also, if anyone has any suggestions for sound bar ratings, and review websites, that you trust please list those as well
Thank you!
If money really is no object, the Nakamichi Dragon Quad costs $7K and is the best on the market. For less money, the less expensive Nakamichis are still the best on the market. I have a Shockwafe 9.2earc on one TV and a Shockwafe 7.2 earc on another TV. I've been through more soundbars than I can remember and the Nakamichis are the only ones that I've kept. Better than Vizio, Samsung, and a million others I tried.
I second the Dragon. I have the system with 2 8-inch subs and I added one 12-inch sub, and it is in a 12 x 14 room. Unbelievable! Dune, Godzilla x Kong, the Batmobile scene in The Batman all showcase the "sound bubble" with ample bass! It's the best home theater decision I've ever made (I don't have room nor the patience for separates).
Dumb question; how did you add a 3rd sub? Is it a Nak sub or 3rd party? I suppose adding it is as easy as the original 2 it came with cause people are running the two 8's AND two 12's.
I have the dragon with 2 12 inch subwoofers in front and 2 8 inch subwoofers in the back in my basement and it sounds incredible. I have the Nakamichi shockwafe wireless 11.2.6 in my master bedroom and firmware update and it's the best bang for the buck sounds very good.
I’m sure it’s amazing, but isn’t the Samsung best bang for the buck?
Hard to look past the Sonos Arc Ultra and then use it combined with all the other Sonos gear for surrounds
It’s subjective, like the 990 series is the best for your buck, whilst stuff like nakamichi is said to be the best but doesn’t have alot of features, whilst Sonos has the best soundstage and overall sound.
Im back and forth between the arc ultra and 990 series. I already have a few Sonos speakers so thinking of going that route. Their subs are expensive though so full Samsung system is definitely cheaper.
I have a lot of Sonos in my house, but just went Samsung. A lot of reviews say it’s better, and it was less than half the price.
Sonos makes the best subs in my opinion, sure your paying the premium but it defo sounds better.
I bought 990d, I was so impressed I bought another 990d for my bedroom
If money was not a factor then I'd probably look at the Sony Bravia Theatre Quad with the bigger of the two subwoofers.
For the biggest sound for say a home theatre without going the AVR route, I'd take a look at the Nakamichi Shockwave Ultra 9.2.
For me the Sonos has too many negatives such as no Passthrough ports or DTS support.
The Q990F is excellent as well.
I think RTINGS is the best site to look at reviews as they are objective and not subjective.
Their best soundbars page is useful:
I’ve had enough of tinny built-in TV speakers. I want a soundbar that actually sounds like it’s worth the hype in 2025. But here’s the catch: I keep seeing the same 3-4 brands regurgitated on every tech blog, half of them sponsored. Samsung this, Sonos that. Are they actually worth it, or is there something better that real people are using and loving?
I want deep bass, clear dialogue (not that muffled nonsense), and something that doesn’t need a PhD to set up. Not looking to build a home theater from scratch, just a soundbar that punches above its weight and doesn’t cost as much as a new TV.
Reddit, what’s actually the best soundbar in 2025? Any underrated gems?
Update: I ended up buying Samsung Q990D soundbar. Thanks everyone for recommendations!
Bose is underrated in this subreddit. The full system is great and subwoofer punches above its weight class. It outdoes the sonos sub. You can have 2 subs as well if you wanted.
Samsung and Sonos are not bad options by the way - they get recommended a lot as they are just popular brands to choose among other soundbars.
Samsung also just costs less which helps if you are looking for a deal.
I second this, Bose doesn’t get enough credit here. Their stuff sounds really clean and that sub seriously delivers. Being able to add a second sub is a nice bonus too.
Samsung and Sonos are solid, but yeah, they kinda get defaulted to just because they’re everywhere.
I have a small apartment so spent a lot of time looking for the best one-speaker system… very pleased with the Bose ultra
I have a q900d in my 'small' 1br apt. It's awesome. It's not that hard to find a spot for rear speakers.
Appreciate the take! I’ve kind of slept on Bose, to be honest. I always thought they were more about overpriced headphones than home audio. But hearing the sub outdoes the Sonos one is interesting
Good point on Samsung too. definitely more budget-friendly. I guess I just get skeptical when the same names keep popping up everywhere. Makes me wonder if it's hype or actual quality.
I have a Bose system and agree but a MAYOR drawback is the surround speakers. They are a couple of years old and still priced at $500. With Bose you are committing to not having surrounds.
Third this - bose ultra system has been great for me
Nakamichi dragon (it's expensive though) but sounds amazing
Second this. I have the older Shockwafe and it's fantastic. I had never heard of Nakamichi previously, but the reviews were very good. The dual subs really give a lot of punch.
Ambeo Max with wired sub. Sounds amazing.
I bought the Sennheiser Ambeo Plus and dont regret it. Simple setup and remote control with an extra "voice" Button. We watched a movie and my friend thought there was a thunder outside.
Samsung Q990D has been a bargain for the prices it’s been down to lately.
I have an Onkyo RZ50 9.2 THX system I am downsizing to a Soundbar due to moving. What are the best recommendations to get the best sound?
Denon Home series
This is a good brand as well
What would be the best for that?
I recently did an analysis on Reddit data on soundbars for past year. Maybe you’ll find the results helpful https://redditrecs.com/soundbar/ Basically ranked the soundbars by aggregated sentiment and you can see a breakdown of the good and bad that people have said for each model
Thanks very much
I currently have an SVS Micro sub which I use with speakers for music. But I want to be able to hook it up to my tv with a soundbar for tidiness. I don’t really have space for speakers next to my TV.
I’m struggling to find a soundbar that fits the bill I.e. doesn’t come with a sub but has the appropriate connections. Any recommendations out there?
This is one of the top reviews for the Sony HT-A5000 currently on clearance at Costco.
That doesn't look like an HT-A5000 to me, and it doesn't state it is one in that post. The HT-A5000 has the recessed area for the ports, and that one just has a flat surface.
Here's the back of mine that I bought.
Ambeo max/plus
Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my TV setup and am on the hunt for a soundbar that offers great sound quality. I mostly watch movies and TV shows, but I also enjoy gaming and music. I'm looking for something that has clear dialogue, strong bass, and a well-rounded soundstage. My budget is around $500–$800 for a premium model. If you have any recommendations based on personal experience, or even specific brands or models to check out, I’d really appreciate it! Bonus points if it’s easy to set up and has good value for the price. Thanks in advance!
I did a lot of research and drove all around southern California to go to various retailers and hifi shops to listen to various sound bars and the one I went with is the Sennheiser Ambeo Max.
It's not small and it's not really reasonably priced but as far as soundbars go, it has the best sound, clarity, crisp highs, robus midrange, and has the power to fill a large room without leaving anything to be desired. It has support for ATMOS, comes with a calibration mic (makes a HUGE difference) so you can calibrate the soundbar to your room, and has lots of input ports. I'm using it with eARC to my LG OLED, utilizing its built-in DAC to handle all of the bit-perfect decoding.
One small downside is it doesn't have wireless sub support but it does have a dedicated wired sub output. The smaller (newer) model Ambeo Plus does support wireless sub but not surprisingly, only their own Sennheiser sub. The fix was pretty easy though. I got the SVS wireless adapter (the better version, not the cheaper model) and have it broadcasting the wireless subwoofer output to two wireless receivers to SVS SB3000 subs in the two front separate corners of the room. The subs are about 12' apart (TV in the middle and subs in corners) and I've not noticed any lag at all.
The whole setup rocks the house, sounds excellent when using proper audio sources, and it's a clean setup. Everything is mounted to the wall and you don't see any wires at all.
Ambeo plus and the matching is quite good. Sounds much better than a friends 800 series Samsung.
The 990d without a doubt, yes samsung fucked the update but that's not the soundbars fault and if you want prove look how pissed everyone is without it. Samsung fixing it and even those getting next day replacements it's too long.
Even a day without it would be rage inducing I only got away it because I turn automatic updates because many years ago I lost data because data one started.
I’ve seen some people mention the issues with the update, but it’s good to hear the soundbar itself is still solid. How’s the overall sound quality for you, especially when it comes to dialogue and bass? And do you feel like the soundstage really fills the room?
I bought the 990D yesterday from Bestbuy - installed in less than 15 minutes. No issues. Samsung removed that update, so you will not have issues if you buy it now. It’s absolutely incredible and it replaced a Samsung S650 soundbar that was a medium tier. Night and day difference. Buy the 990
The sound is ridiculous right up to full volume, im a bit of a tech snob.
Everything in my house electronic is samsung and their flagship models except from the kitchen appliances they don't make.
I used to have bose audio equipment in the past, and 10k for a b and 0 system would be a waste for me.
990 is the best quality sound I've ever heard. If you are coming from anything other than a sound studio, you hear notes in music you have never heard before, and movies are game changers. I paid £860 for it, and quite frankly, I'd pay that a year, never mind the 10 it will last.
It has upwards and sidewards facing speakers, so do the rears.
I can not praise it enough. Having a samsung tv also gives you a symphony with ads, the tv speakers in also, and audio tracking. You hear bullets ping off the walls, and things bounce from the floor to the ceiling.
I promise you won't be disappointed.
I saw a deal the other day for a 65 95d tv and a q990d for £2400 that's a bargain.
An awesome feature it has among many is the ability to have the music on it play on other rooms I have a q30d in my bedroom and my son has a samsung soundbar maybe a q6 in his room and there is a 801d in the kitchen and it plays on these aswell. They can't play music in the 990s, so I think it's only the 9 series option
I don't have particular high ceilings or large rooms, so if you have really large rooms, the upwards and bass may be an issue, but with how loud it goes, i wouldn't think so.
Dialogue and bass are perfect and have mine set to 0, so I can't imagine you would have an issue.
There are a bunch of settings you can tinker with, but I leave it on adaptive and perfectly happy.
I would suggest if you can wait to grab the 990f, which is just coming out, because it has a new sub, which I'm jealous of. lol, I'm already thinking of excuses as to why I need one.
The only thing is the 990 is quite large, so check between your tv legs if it has 2.
I also have a 930d, which is the model below, and if I'm honest, I can't see much difference. Even my sons q6 is amazing it didn't come with rear speakers, but I got him 9200s ones for it they don't have the upwards or side ways speakers thou.
I couldn't speak more highly of the 801d ( no rears either) in the kitchen either ( I'm not some smug or rich asshole I used to have it in the bedroom so stuck it in there for when I'm cooking as I upgraded over time i moved the older stuff around the house is also didn't pay full price for any, all from deals or refurbished).
The samsung Smart Things app is a thing of beauty.
I'm a samsung fan boi so I'm kinda biased when it comes to samsung, but if someone tells you the 990d is bad, they liars. Sure they drop the ball with the update and the buds 2 pro I had were garbage and the fridge freezer I paid 2 grand for when one half the size and a quarter of price broke after a week and the day after I had the new floor put down with the cable and water pipe under it. I still wouldn't buy anything else.
Edit: I've seen you mentioned tvs.
I have 4 samsung in my home, a 8070, an 80d an 85d, and a 95d being an uhd a qled and 2 oled. I can't comment much on the 8070 as it's my sons but the others are fantastic the oled do much better black and the bloom than qled but if you hadn't seen the others couldn't tell. the oled also do the adaptive sound a little better but again if you weren't used to it then you can't tell.
The 4k upscaling is fucking amazing it turns a hd picture to 4k beautifully this is a feature i could not do without.
That was a bit of a book. Sorry, hope that answers if questions you.
If you have the resources, get a 95d and a 990d, and if you can wait, wait for the 990f. I'm not sure if they are doing anything new with tvs. Saying that if you can grab an 80d and a 930, don't hesitate. I doubt in the end the difference is anything much.
If anyone else is reading this and you are young or not have a huge budget consider a 8070 and q6 or 801d ( it's white and slim beautiful to look at even more so than the 9 series) my so. Has these and he is more than happy with them. The pair can be had for under £800 and would make anyone a great combo.
2nd edit: I seen your budget was in dollars not pounds sorry I'm from the uk.
I'll second the 990d. Its such a badass system for the price. I snagged mine a month ago for $1k and they may become even cheaper once the 990F launches. Side note...sub position is crucial! I had mine to the right side of the TV and it was OK but not great. I moved it to the left side and now the entire house is filled with deep clean bass!
It will be out of your price range. For Samsung 800d or 930d should be in your prices.
You can check the in-depth différences on rtings but basically, 930 has rears and 2 more channels. Depends on your liking
Sony HTA 7000 soundbar
thankyou! does it have upfiring speakers?
The .2 defines that it has two upfiring speakers. Although it doesn't define if it's in front or back.
In this case, it is within the bar, so 2 front firing speakers are there.
Another example, Q990D is of config 11.1.4
Here 11 defines number of speakers on flat level, then .1 defines the number of subwoofer and .4 defines the number of upfiring speaker.
I may have not used the right terms at places , but i hope you got the idea now.
Also it's best to check product description and videos to understand which side the upfiring is present.
Maybe not the best since I'm not rich and haven't tried a bunch, but I got my JBL Bar 9.1 open box at Best Buy and it has been excellent. I have very picky ears and recognize a soundbar is a soundbar, but after placing the sub and rears properly and turning the sub to 2 I love it and think it sounds great with all kinds of content (music, movies, games). Had it a couple years now and it's been great!
I keep seeing to get the Samsung soundbars but I want something compact like the Sonos beam. I could do the Samsung ones but I also don’t need the rear speakers and it will be as big as my TV with the soundbar hanging off my stand a good bit on each side. Any help would be appreciated.
Beam/Bose 600(or whatever they’re calling it now, Smart?) and if you do want rears later on you can add them on.
Thinking of adding a soundbar to our living room tv. The tv is a 50 ifrom 2019 but it works fine but I imagine I'll be upgrading the Tv to a 55 inch cause my mom wants that exact size. Wall mounting isn't an option.
I don't think a subwoofer is needed. Mainly focused on sound clarity. I have a QC990C in the basement with a 65 inch S90C.
I think the Polk Audio Magnifi Mini Max is great
I highly recommend looking at the Klipsch Flexus Core 200! Absolutely amazing system. The bass is pretty remarkable from the bar itself. Had to wait another 2-3 weeks before my sub came but I have to say it has amazing quality. I sold my Sonos Arc, Sub Mini & Era 100's for the Core 200 + sub 100 (might buy the rears in the future) & I have absolutely no regrets. I think this Flexus system is really hard to beat for the price.
Have you had any popping or crackling sounds from your setup? I’ve seen a lot of reviews kf people complaining about that
Not one issue so far with mine.
This!
bose smart ultra
q930d
Sonos Beam Gen 2. It's about 26 inches wide. It has excellent sound clarity. It's great with music and movies or for regular TV. You can also add a subwoofer and surrounds later if you want to.
Looking upgrade my home audio setup and I'm searching for the best soundbar currently available. I’m looking for something with excellent sound quality, good bass, and compatibility with streaming services. A sleek design and features like Dolby Atmos would be a bonus.
What soundbars would you recommend? Are there any specific models or brands that stand out?
Samsung Q990D if you can snag it for a good deal. Woot had it for under a grand.
Had? Still is! 25 days left or until it sells out. Mine arrives today!
It’s $900 from focus camera on eBay. Bought mine before Thanksgiving. It arrived perfectly. It’s still 899 as we speak!
Yeah I have a hard time trusting anybody on eBay.
Samsung HW-Q930 series deserves to be talked about more. It's a great soundbar!
Same for the q800c. It’s also very very good
Q990D is exceeding all expectations at the moment for me. Just got it two days ago. Snagged it for $815 on eBay!
Ambios plus is amazing , it's very clean and clear sounding imo
Ambio plus + your choice of sub. Tried several others at my house, hands down beat them all
I’ve had a small sound bar (22” long) from Sony with a wireless subwoofer that can go under the couch for like 7 years. This thing doesn’t have HDMI arc connection so I would like to upgrade to something with the latest technology, but I don’t want a very large sound bar and I like to have rear speakers to get the full Dolby Atmos effect. Preferably everything is wireless, and the speakers are small. I have a LG OLED77B3AUA TV that is sitting on a cabinet. The room is 24 x 14‘.
Are there any recommendations from this sub? Almost all the suggestions I read in this sub point to sound bars that are very large.
Maybe go for Sonos? The SUB can be be placed flat, so it will fit under your sofa. If you want full amtos for the rear speakers as well, you have to choose the Era 300s, and they are a bit on the large side. A full Sonos system id a bit on the expensive side too if thats a factor.
The Bose 600/ Bose Smart Soundbar would be a perfect choice. Small size but absolutely amazing sound. Not very much bass tho so a subwoofer is definitely recommended. The 600 + BM700 is an absolutely amazing combination. The BM500 is also probably pretty good but it definitely doesn't compare to the 700. Even 1 BM700 is a lot better than 2 BM500'S.
I'm looking to replace the current, cheap soundbar I have. I know getting a whole audio system often gets recommended, but I like having the single soundbar on my desk, and I'll be moving somewhere where I likely won't have any room for speaker other than my desk. A system with big, loud subs and whatnot is also very likely to disturb those around me.
Polk MagniFi mini ax.
Seconded, I have also it connected to PC via Spdif.
Just what I have been looking for, thanks.
Try Razer Leviathan
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/razer-leviathan-v2
excellent option specifically designed for gaming. It features Dolby Virtual Surround Sound and a dedicated subwoofer for deep bass.
Wouldnt it be better to just get a pair of active speakers instead?
Yes, the Edifier bookshelfs will likely net a better result and take up less overall space
My desk has another shelf(?) for the monitor to sit on, that can fit, or be easily adjusted to fit if needed, a soundbar, leaving my with the same amount of regular desk space as before .
Get a good open headphone with a Dac
I have a good headset, but I use it for when I'm playing with others, need that good spatial audio (like FPS games), etc. But in games where spatial audio and mic aren't needed, I prefer the soundbar.
Did you get something? Are you happy with it?
Due to space requirements I can’t have a large sound bar. Was disappointed when I found out you can’t use two era 300s as tv speakers. Also found out I’ll need an Apple TV for two HomePods, and don’t think sound is worth the $850+
Budget $500-600 I can accommodate a sub Want Dolby Atmos (doesn’t have to be amazing, just decent)
I like clear high fidelity sounds, not bass overpowering rumbling or underwhelming, don’t want it sound like it comes from a can
I picked up the Samsung HW-S60B 5.0 with Dolby Atmos functionality. It also has the option to add a future wireless sub and rear surrounds, something a competing 5.0 bar does not have😢😢😢 I am currently in the process of watching ALL my Dolby Atmos movies over again. Star Wars sounds FANTASTIC on it. I’ve listened to the Star Wars original soundtrack and with my eyes closed while reclined in my recliner which made my studio sound like a concert hall. It’s currently on sale at Best Buy for $249, down from $349. I paid $269 for mine. Listening to the demo in Best Buy DIDN’T do it justice. I’m glad I purchased it and hooked it up at home. The side speakers needs to bounce off walls in order to fully enjoy the immersive surround sound. I paired it originally with a Hisense H8G from 2020. It’s now paired with my new TCL 55S555 which I bought yesterday. I highly recommend it for simple, no hassle, audio enjoyment😁😁😁
Sonos beam and mini sub is a little more than your budget but should be considered.
Sonos beam + addition Sub Mini or Samsuns S60B with additional sub.
I love my Polk Magnifi Mini AX, bought it a couple weeks ago. Huge sound and bass for such a small system. Plan on purchasing the surround speakers in the near future
I thought the surround speakers weren’t compatible with the mini?
They are with the newer AX version
How does it sound with Dolby atmos?
Is there a cheaper variant? This thing is over $300 in Canada...
I haven't listened to it in person, but the Polk Audio Magnifi seems to get the 'best small soundbar' award in a lot of reviews.
https://www.polkaudio.com/en-us/product/sound-bars/magnifi-mini-ax/300410-new.html
This is actually the one I’ve been looking at getting, if I do get it, I will wait for it to drop back down to $300-350 unless
Ideally, the bar should be less than 30 inches wide, and able to be just fine without a subwoofer. Dolby Atmos would also be great to have.
Soundbars seem like a great idea. They’re sleek, compact, high-tech and look like a great companion for a thin TV. Assuming you’re also conscientious about good sound, you’ve probably wondered if they deliver the kind of performance that will make you happy. Unfortunately, things look better than they sound when it comes to soundbars. In fact, a soundbar is like to two rugby teams trying to play a match on a tennis court. Let me explain.
A soundbar typically consists of three sets of transducers (maybe a few more if it’s trying to do simulated surround); one each for the left, centre and right channels. Each set is sometimes configured in a classic horizontal MTM array, with two woofers or flanking a tweeter. All nine of these transducers have to fit in a cabinet that’s a few centimetres tall by a few centimetres deep and perhaps 100-150cm wide. This is less than ideal for several reasons.
First, the speakers are way too close together to produce any kind of imaging or soundstage. Ideally, the left and right speakers should form a 45- to 60-degree subtended angle from the listening position. So, roughly speaking, if the soundbar is 100cm wide, you should be 150-200cm away from it. I’ll bet you’re not sitting that close.
When you smush the speakers so close to each other, you get no separation; the soundstage collapses into a giant mono blob. If you don’t believe me, get a test disc and try playing pink noise which cycles through the LCR. Not much difference, huh?
Second, horizontal MTM arrays exhibit significant comb filtering (regular deep notches in the frequency response due to transducer interferences) and ragged overall frequency response when you get off axis. Thus, unless you’re sitting directly on-axis with the array, you get poor intelligibility and a swooshy, mushy character to the sound. With a soundbar, it’s impossible for even one person to sit on axis with the MTM arrays for all three channels. The most you could do is one. You might get decent sound from the left or centre or right, but the other two will sound bad.
The third reason requires a little background information on how soundtracks are mixed. In many cases, mix engineers put the same sound in more than one front channel. This could be something like a phantom centre image for music or a sound effect they want to emphasise in a certain way. With the LCR speakers so close together producing the same sound, you get bad comb filtering between the three speakers. It’s the same concept as before, just expanded across all three arrays instead of within one.
Fourth, the cabinet volume is not great enough to support any kind of significant low frequency reproduction. Assuming the soundbar has three channels in it, each one gets one third of the total volume of the soundbar. It’s not enough to produce frequencies below about 150-200Hz. While you can add a subwoofer, you’re asking for trouble trying to get a good blend. Placement will be challenging, as the subwoofer is playing frequencies high enough to localise it. Plus, you’ll be dealing with all kinds of resonance issues that further restrict where the subwoofer can go.
So, to summarise, you’ll have giant mono sound with no separation or imaging, poor intelligibility and poor frequency response, and no dynamics or bass. It’s just a big, confused, jumbled mess – like those two rugby teams on a tennis court!
It’s theoretically possible, that you might go with one of those giant 250cm wide TVs where the soundbar is wide enough with enough volume to produce pretty decent LCR sound. But I have to ask… if you’re going with a TV that big and expensive, is a soundbar really the best you can afford for sound?
Yeah. I wish I had better news, but soundbars aren’t great any way you slice it. They may look cool, but they don’t have the sound to match. Obviously a real sound system is the ultimate solution, they’re going to sound better than a soundbar and will make you much happier.
Yes..but compared to TV speakers, a soundbar is a great improvement and for the typical consumer, a good option to improve their home theater experience.
Tv speakers nowadays indeed suck. What do you mean home theatre experience? The problem with sound bars is that the speakers are to close together for good stereo seperation. So you are essentially listening to a big mono speaker.
You are better of buying a Yamaha MCR-B370D compact stereo system. Bigger speakers so better sound and real stereo separation.
Sonos Beam Gen 2
That's a bit pricey for me right now..... would a Samsung HW-S60B suffice?
I don’t know
Ambeo mini
Def tech 3D mini soundbar. $450 on amazon or bose 600 or beam gen 2
So, 2023 is coming to an end, and I am faced with the choice of which soundbar to choose from 800 -1200 USD, what are the options. Preferably with rear speakers, for full immersion.
I just joined this sub and don't own any soundbars. I have no idea what it is, but apparently the answer is always 990cc.
Given how much it's been discounted, yeah, the Q990C is the choice.
Q990c. It's borderline overrated but recommended for a reason. However, I'll add, go through Amazon b/c while I love Samsung their customer service and return policies are mind-numbingly bad.
I have a Q990C so I'm biased and so is this sub soooo that's my pick of the year. I got it on sale for $860 and that price nothing comes close in my opinion.
I waited my entire life (40+ years) to buy a sound bar. It is the only sound bar I've ever experienced. I got it on eBay for $920 back in September. If I had just waited 1 more day to pay the seller I'd have received a $100 off coupon and only had to pay $820.
I got super lucky and got one on sale for 790$. It's not as booming as I thought but it's so good with atmos movies
It would take about 1 min of browsing the front page of this sub to find your answer. Let the 990c recommendations flow.
Blessed those who helped me pick mine, very happy with my q990c
The First Commandment. 990c
Precisely on that price range, the hw-q990c is the perfect match. But it depends, what are you looking for in the sound experience. Do you prefer watching movies or mainly just listening to music? Would you prefer a all in one soundbar system? Do you have extra power outlets for the rear speakers? Do you like a clean bass or a more aggressive one? Is your TV also samsung for the qsymphony feature? Anything that you can think you can add, but in most cases, the q990c will come as the best price/value all-rounder. That is why i ended up buying one (thanks to the recommendation of this subreddit) and I love it.
As the title states I'm looking for the best overall small form factor sound bar on the market.
In and out I'm an audiophile. I have multiple systems throughout my house that use very high end components and speakers. With that being said I strictly usually stay away from soundbars.
However after years of being against it i now have a tv in the bedroom. Originally I was going to get a small amp and speakers but honestly I just want something that is discrete, plug and play, and just works ,without sounding completely terrible.
For the meantime I bought a cheap $50 soundbar off Amazon. It works fine, but the sound is lacking overall.
Here are my criteria for a better soundbar to replace the Amazon special.
That's it. Budget isn't a concern but if it's on the cheaper side I definitely won't complain.
Thought this would be the best place to ask because while I'm deeply and heavily into audio as a hobby I know next to nothing about soundbars..
Thanks in advance!
too bad of your size constraint as i cannot adequately explain how good the old Hw-ms650 was as a stand alone but it's double what you want in length and the only one i found that is in excellent condition with remote is $300. I'll toss these links to ya anyway

these came about shortly after samsung acquired Harman Kardon and they were asked to make a good sound bar money no object and sold them near cost just to get their name noticed. Really does have good clear sound with a noticeable touch of base. perfect for your needs and your ear
Sonos beam 2
I have Polk Magnifi Mini and it has been serving me well. It does come with a wireless subwoofer tho.
I have an LG Eclair QP5 in my bedroom. Love it.
best compact soundbar
Key Considerations for Choosing a Compact Soundbar:
Sound Quality: Look for soundbars that provide clear dialogue and balanced audio. Consider models with built-in subwoofers or those that support external subwoofers for enhanced bass.
Size and Design: Ensure the soundbar fits your space and complements your TV setup. Compact models typically range from 24 to 36 inches in length.
Connectivity Options: Check for multiple connectivity options such as HDMI ARC, optical, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. HDMI ARC is particularly useful for easy connection to your TV.
Features: Look for features like voice enhancement, surround sound simulation, and built-in streaming services. Some soundbars also come with remote controls or mobile app compatibility for convenience.
Price: Set a budget, as compact soundbars can range from budget-friendly to premium options.
Recommendations:
Sonos Beam: Known for its excellent sound quality and smart features, the Sonos Beam is compact (25.6 inches) and offers voice control with Alexa and Google Assistant. It also integrates well with other Sonos products for multi-room audio.
Bose Solo 5: This is a great budget-friendly option that provides clear sound and dialogue enhancement. It’s compact (21.6 inches) and easy to set up, making it perfect for smaller spaces.
Yamaha YAS-109: This soundbar offers built-in Alexa voice control, great sound quality, and a slim design (36 inches). It also features DTS Virtual:X for a more immersive audio experience.
