How high is the ceiling and what shape is the room? The Ambeo is great but systems like it that rely on bounce from the walls and ceiling really don't work in open rooms.

Right now the king of the hill seems to be the new Sennheiser Ambeo soundbar, would absolutely be my choice if I had that much money to spend on it. Along with a nice external sub of course

I have a super old high end Yamaha YSP 4000 with a down firing sub. To this day it does amazing, has great settings to do direct beam to you for night quiet watching etc. Whatever their equivalent is out now is probably way better and equally impressive. But for sure hardwood and down firing subs are amazing!!

The Nakamichi Dragon is a $4000 system that had only a few reviews from Ces in early Jan 2023 and it’s still only in maybe 50 houses? How is Samsung 990C compared to JBL 1300x?

Haven't seen that LG at the top of any lists of top soundbars except for wire cutter.

I have an LG C9 55” and just setup the Sony HTA5000 both feature Legit HDMI 2.1 ports the Sounbar Has 2 HDMI 2.1 ports so. My PS5 can use EARC, and all the 360 Sound features and I don’t lose a port.

But my preferred setup which IMO sounds better until my Rear Satellites arrives is. Optical in to the HTA5000 and Internal TV Speakers. As you know the LG C9 allows use of its TV Speakers while a Sounbar is connected.

This triggers watching X-MEN or Indiana Jones via Disney+ for example Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos both to activate on the Top Right of the LG C9. It’s a Double Icon.
Both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos working simultaneously well this TV was and is ahead of its time.

Sony HTA5000 Soundbar alone is $898 on Sale, I got it Used Like New on Amazon for $430 and I got the SRS Rears Speakers normally $599 Used Excellent for $300.

Nakamichi DRAGON has not disappointed me. It has 3 Full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports and all the professional Audio codecs.

JBL or Ambeo or Samsung Q990C or Q990D

I’ve got the LG S95QR paired with my C2 and I love it, the sound is killer with plenty of immersion, clear dialogue and solid bass. The only real benefit of matching LG to LG is the ability to use Wow Orchestra, but I personally think it’s dumb so I have it disabled. Atmos and DTS:X sound phenomenal!

Best of the best would be q990c or d BUT if you want a very solid one for MUCH cheaper, you can look into its older iteration or the 900x series.

Q990c/d are 1000-1500$ sound system. Their price is quite inflated because the biggest improvement they have over previous gen is some features like auto EQ, nightmode, Alexa built in etc… but not much purely sound wise.

I personally got the Q900A + 2x SWA9500S rear speaker for 320$.

The sound difference is minimal. If the q990d is a 20/20, the q990c is a 19,5/20 and my q900a is a 18,5/20. And its 70% cheaper lol

The Q950T can also be a great choice if you have good deals since it is from 2020. Lacks some features the others have but it’s probably top 5 Samsung in terms of sound quality. Very good one!

You’ll be recommended the Samsung Q990d, or Q990c. I just recently installed the Q990d. It’s fantastic - for a price to value ratio it’s very good. My kids and wife were blown away with it. For a non audiophile, it’s a damn good system.

Well high ceilings is bad for any soundbar,

But the best soundbar hands down mainly with value is the q990 series (c/d/f).

Next I would assume is the Sonos arc ultra(but the full set gets expensive)

Then I guess the Bravia theatre quads(although not really a soundbar, and very expensive)(also works better with a sony tv, and u would need to buy a sub)

That's just my thoughts, idk much abt other soundbars, other can say.

Bought an open box Nakamichi 7.1 4 SSE at an incredible (IMO) price. I am very happy with it. After several months of reading reviews, costing 2 big box retailers to see and touch and hear what they had in stock. Space limitations kept me from going with an AVR system. I have a BenQ V7050I projector and a 110" ALR screen and the Nakamichi works for me.

Did I mention that I am happy with it? The Nakamichi was easy to unpack and to set up.

Q900c with the SWA-9500S satellites. They have been great except I'm experiencing random sound dropouts when switching channel or apps. Basically have to power cycle the tv since it controls the soundbar (cec).

Other random times, the volume level adjustment lags, for example, if I decrease volume, it'll show the volume value dropping down on the tv, then if I decrease the volume again immediately, the value will jump back to the original value and decrease again. The smartthings app will show a different volume value than the tv/soundbar.

Anyone else run into this and have any ideas on fix? I'm on firmware 1004.

I got a awesome deal on a used Nakamichi 9.2.4 eArc sounds good a different animal with 2 10” subs and 4 separate surrounds plus the bar. I still couldn’t spend the 1800$ new price I’d go the AVR setup like I have in my living room first. I have that JBL 5.1 just the bar and 10” sub I use it as a pissed off blutooth speaker in garage or basement you really need surround speakers for tv makes a huge difference.

If you really want something that is super simple, seamless, and pretty good overall, the Samsung bars work extremely well, especially with their TVs. You install it, set it (you can use their app to make initial sound customization settings), and then forget it/use it. My 2023 Samsung bar is connected to the 2023 Samsung TV via eARC, and the subwoofer and rear speakers are wireless. I actually don't even know exactly where the remote for the sound bar is at the moment because I just control it all with the TV remote. I press 'power' and the TV and bar simply work in unison without hassle.

You can get a lot of the middle-upper end Samsung sound bars on pretty aggressive sales if you are willing to hunt around a bit--I got my Q900C for $500 and the 9500S rear speakers for $120. Their Q990C has been on sale for really aggressive prices as well. You're not going to get quite the same level of sound quality you might with some of the super high end options/high-end standalone speakers, but you'll get something that does most things very well at a reasonable price without a fuss.

What do you want to spent on it? I have the Q990C and love it. Easy to use, sounds great, and I've seen some good deals coming by for around $1000 (of course after I paid full price, still worth it imo).

Difference is huge. Very happy with the change. And the women too, because the 990c set is more "slim" in the interior.

I did a lot of research and drove all around southern California to go to various retailers and hifi shops to listen to various sound bars and the one I went with is the Sennheiser Ambeo Max.

It's not small and it's not really reasonably priced but as far as soundbars go, it has the best sound, clarity, crisp highs, robus midrange, and has the power to fill a large room without leaving anything to be desired. It has support for ATMOS, comes with a calibration mic (makes a HUGE difference) so you can calibrate the soundbar to your room, and has lots of input ports. I'm using it with eARC to my LG OLED, utilizing its built-in DAC to handle all of the bit-perfect decoding.

One small downside is it doesn't have wireless sub support but it does have a dedicated wired sub output. The smaller (newer) model Ambeo Plus does support wireless sub but not surprisingly, only their own Sennheiser sub. The fix was pretty easy though. I got the SVS wireless adapter (the better version, not the cheaper model) and have it broadcasting the wireless subwoofer output to two wireless receivers to SVS SB3000 subs in the two front separate corners of the room. The subs are about 12' apart (TV in the middle and subs in corners) and I've not noticed any lag at all.

The whole setup rocks the house, sounds excellent when using proper audio sources, and it's a clean setup. Everything is mounted to the wall and you don't see any wires at all.

The 990d without a doubt, yes samsung fucked the update but that's not the soundbars fault and if you want prove look how pissed everyone is without it. Samsung fixing it and even those getting next day replacements it's too long.

Even a day without it would be rage inducing I only got away it because I turn automatic updates because many years ago I lost data because data one started.

Maybe not the best since I'm not rich and haven't tried a bunch, but I got my JBL Bar 9.1 open box at Best Buy and it has been excellent. I have very picky ears and recognize a soundbar is a soundbar, but after placing the sub and rears properly and turning the sub to 2 I love it and think it sounds great with all kinds of content (music, movies, games). Had it a couple years now and it's been great!

for 2k i second probably going to “traditional” 2 channel setup.. BUT best thing to really get the best bang for all of 2k is sonos arc ultra and 800 sub :) samsung q990f is a great choice also if you specifically want surround speakers!

If you can stretch to it, I'd look at the Sony Bravia Theatre Quad. The issue is you'd also need the bigger subwoofer. It probably depends on whether you can get any discounts.

For 2k why would you buy a soundbar? You could get 10x the performance with a nice Denon, Yamaha, or Onkyo receiver and some nice bookshelf speakers for that price.

Go as high-end as your budget and space can afford. Games these days look great and gotta sound good as well!

Games makes more of the sound than movies.

I don't understand, you bought the best soundbar in that price range and returned. Jbl will not be as good. You should have stuck with 990d and if you really hate the music on it so much, then get something dedicated for music. I am sorry, but I have been reading for a while and 990d/f are the top in that price range

For music you need at least 4.5 inch drivers, preferably 5.5 inch and tweeters. Forget soundbars if your goal is music.

I'd still recommend jbl 1300 if anything its better than jbl 9.1.

I had jbl9.1 and it was mind blowing watching any dolby atmos movies especially DUNE.

I love jbl cuz its super mobile, i dont need to have the satellites fixed up for power outlets. I did install the hooks behind the couch and just attach it there when i watch movies.
