What Redditors are Saying

Best Cooling Blankets for Hot Sleepers

TL;DR

  • Elegear Arc-Chill and Rest Evercool blankets are popular choices.
  • Luxear and Dangtop bamboo blankets offer breathable options.
  • Consider natural fibers like bamboo or Tencel for cooling effects.

Popular Cooling Blanket Options

Several cooling blankets have been recommended by users experiencing similar issues with overheating at night. The Elegear Arc-Chill blanket uses Japanese Q-Max 0.5 fabric, which is designed to absorb body heat efficiently [1:1]. The Rest Evercool blanket is noted for its silky smooth texture and ability to prevent overheating [1:2]. Additionally, the Luxear cooling blanket has been praised for reducing night sweats despite its thin appearance [1:3].

Material Considerations

The material of a cooling blanket plays a significant role in its effectiveness. Bamboo blankets, such as those from Dangtop, are highly breathable and do not trap heat like cotton or polyester blankets [1:4]. Similarly, Tencel sheets have been recommended for their softness and superior cooling properties compared to bamboo [5:3]. Choosing blankets made from natural fibers can enhance breathability and moisture-wicking capabilities.

Additional Recommendations

For those seeking alternatives, the Choshome cooling blanket on Amazon has received positive feedback for its cooling effect [2:1]. The Summer Ultimate Cooling Blanket was also mentioned as effective in hot environments without AC [3:2]. While some users find these blankets helpful, others suggest exploring water-based cooling systems like Chilipad for more robust cooling solutions [2:5].

Sheets and Bedding

In addition to blankets, cooling sheets can complement your sleep setup. Users recommend bamboo sheets for their moisture-wicking properties and soft texture [5:1]. Tencel sheets are also favored for their cooling effect and comfort [5:3]. When selecting sheets, consider avoiding synthetic materials that may promise cooling but fail to deliver [4:3].

Overall, finding the best cooling blanket involves considering personal preferences, material choices, and additional bedding options to create a comfortable sleep environment for hot sleepers.

What's The Best Cooling Blanket For Hot Sleepers?

ORIGINAL POST

I’ve been struggling with overheating at night, and it’s really messing with my sleep. No matter what I try—lighter sheets, fans, or lowering the AC—I still wake up feeling hot and uncomfortable. I recently heard about cooling blankets, but I have no idea which ones actually work. There are so many options out there, from bamboo to weighted ones with cooling tech, and I’m feeling a bit lost. I’d love to hear from people who’ve actually used them—what’s the best cooling blanket for hot sleepers?

While searching online, I came across this post that lists some of the top-rated cooling blankets. It looks helpful, but I’d love to hear real experiences and get deeper insights before making a decision. Has anyone tried any of these or found something even better?

https://bedroom.supplies/best-cooling-blanket/

I’m looking for something that genuinely regulates temperature, doesn’t trap heat, and feels comfortable year-round. Bonus points if it’s easy to wash and holds up well over time! Any recommendations?

I get super hot at night, so I picked up the Rest Evercool blanket to see if it would make a difference. It’s silky smooth and feels kind of cool when you first touch it. For me, it doesn’t exactly "chill" you, but it definitely stops me from overheating as much as I used to. I’d say it’s best if you’re a warm sleeper rather than someone dealing with extreme heat or hot flashes. Also, it’s pretty thin, so if you like a heavier feel, you might not love it.

I used to wake up drenched in sweat, so I gave the Luxear cooling blanket a shot. At first, I thought it wasn’t working because it’s so thin, but over time, I realized I was waking up way less sweaty. It’s not some magic ice-cold thing, but it stops heat from building up under the covers. The downside? My partner, who sleeps cold, hates it because it doesn’t trap warmth at all.

I’ve been using the Dangtop bamboo cooling blanket for a while. It’s super breathable, and I don’t wake up sweaty like I used to. It’s not exactly "cold," but it doesn’t trap heat the way cotton or polyester blankets do. One thing to note—it’s kind of loosely woven, so it snags easily if you have pets.

I've tried the super cool blanket from lulu linen, it's actually making a difference and I don't wake up sweaty anymore.

I’ve tried the Elegear Arc-Chill cooling blanket, and it does feel cooler to the touch than regular blankets. It uses a Japanese Q-Max 0.5 fabric, which supposedly absorbs body heat more efficiently. In my experience, it’s noticeably cool when I first get in bed, but it doesn’t stay that way all night—probably because my body eventually warms up the material. It’s lightweight, breathable, and works better when used alone rather than layered under other bedding. I still needed a fan or AC to maintain the cooling effect, but it helped with night sweats to some degree.

Are cooling blankets effective?

Posted by 40YearOldMilkMan · in r/sleep · 3 years ago

Personally I love being kinda cold at night when I try and sleep. I feel like I give off a lot of body heat and so does my significant other. Often we resort to just the top sheet or blasting the AC all night. I have just learned about cooling blankets. Does anybody own one? Are you happy with it? Does it work with 2 people? Thanks!!

From what I've read about it, they don't work as well as you'd want them to.

You have something like water cooling systems for your bed like Chilipad or Climson (in Europe). I would like to try it but it's also 100's of euros for something that works ok not great .You probably also need to buy an extension cable thing to put the cooling fan in another room because it's not 100% quiet.

DukeAsriel · 3 years ago

I haven't seen an extention for the main water tube. That would be nice to have though. The fan is part of the unit so you couldn't just put the unit outside the bedroom unless the door is really close.

Mine has three cooling settings which are about as loud as any normal fan on a 1-3 speed. If it's super hot you can wear ear buds to reduce noise and blast the the thing on max all night.

Stick to all natural fibers now. Bamboo and some cotton products breathe. The higher the thread count (the softer the feel), but the less likely it will breathe. Avoid anything synthetic, even the ones that promise cooling. It's a sham.

Details matter, and BleuBully nails them. Their duvet cover features a clever zippered closure, solving the annoying problem of duvet bunching. It’s little innovations like this, combined with their signature Tencel Modal softness, that make their products truly superior

best cooling sheets

Posted by AltruisticRegular219 · in r/bed_sheet_set · 2 years ago

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for the best cooling sheets and I'm hoping to get some recommendations from experts and people who have had personal experience with different products/brands on the market.

I'm a hot sleeper and I'm looking for sheets that will help me stay cool and comfortable at night. I'm open to any type of fabric, but I'm especially interested in bamboo, linen, and Tencel sheets.

Here are some specific questions I have:

  • What are the best cooling sheets on the market?
  • What are the pros and cons of different types of cooling sheets?
  • What is the best price range for cooling sheets?
  • What are some of the factors other than fabric that affect the cooling properties of sheets?
  • Do you have any tips for caring for cooling sheets?

I would really appreciate any feedback you can give me. Thank you!

I have a hot sleeper my whole life, and I've tried just about every type of sheet out there in search of something that would help me stay cool at night. I've finally found it in bamboo sheets! They're so soft and smooth, and they actually wick away moisture so I don't wake up feeling sweaty and sticky. I highly recommend them to anyone who's a hot sleeper

using Tencel sheets for a few months now, and I'm really impressed with them. They're just as soft as bamboo sheets, but they're even cooler. I used to wake up in the middle of the night feeling hot and sweaty, but that hasn't happened since I started using Tencel sheets. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who's looking for a cooling sheet.

Oh! Finally I can answer. When I got a new bed they offered these bamboo sheets. I was skeptical but needed new quality sheets, I was not disappointed. They had a cooling touch but kept me warm as well. Super soft almost like satin. Also got a cooling pillow and I don't regret it.

yes, but you do have to wash in cold and it says hang dry only (I dried it on low and it’s still ok). I swear by sleep.me’s chillipad though. it’s a tubing filled mattress topper and a cooling/heating unit. not cheap, but has been worth it.

What’s causing you to sweat at night?

1 upvotes on reddit
G
gbsekrit · 19 days ago

I would overheat only on the mattress facing side of me and would wake up to rotate so that I would cook evenly. it’s worth getting a referral to sleep medicine and possibly a sleep study. I also suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, but it’s very positional, so I really need the heat fixed so I can sleep in a good position for the apnea and not have to be a rotisserie.

1 upvotes on reddit
Key-Boat-7519 · 8 days ago

Keeping the Chillipad clean and paired with breathable sheets is still the easiest way I stay sweat-free. Flush the reservoir with a splash of peroxide each month, stick to distilled water, and set temp a couple degrees above room to dodge condensation. I’ve tried Eight Sleep and BedJet for zoned or airflow tweaks, but GhostBed’s cooling cover on their Luxe mattress stays cool even when the gadgets are off, so I swap in linen or bamboo sheets instead of cranking the unit, and that combo keeps me cool without spiking the power bill.

Are there really any good cooling blankets?

Posted by Top_Respond_8758 · in r/sleep · 5 months ago

My friend has a condition that makes so she can’t regulate her body temperature and she is always having Night sweats. She’s had a cooling blanket before but she hated how slippery it was it kept falling of the bed. I’m a hot sleeper and have always just used a flat sheet. We recently got cooling weighted blankets (12lb for a twin XL size) but it’s too heavy for her to turn. For the past couple of days I’ve been trying to find either a light weight cooling blanket or just a cooling blanket that isn’t those annoying slippery ones. I live in California and it’s about to start getting hot. Are they any good ones both cost friendly or expensive that I could save up for that are like 100/10 or just really good breathable and comfortable non slip.

I’ve heard of the gauze like blankets but I don’t know how those would be.

Cooling blankets

Has anyone else tried these? I sleep hot, unless I’m cold, but then I’ll get hot again. All night long. Miserable nights make for miserable days. I saw these cooling blankets on Amazon for about $30. I didn’t believe it could actually work, but sleep deprived desperation can order strange stuff from Amazon. I don’t know how it works, but it does! It doesn’t reduce the body temperature, but it feels cool to the touch, and that’s enough. Whatever magic is at work, I went back to Amazon and ordered another.

I have 2, but they were super expensive. I have a Rest comforter and a Bearaby cooling weighted blanket. They both work incredibly well. I live in North Carolina, so it is super fucking hot. Right now, I'm using the Bearaby with just a regular cotton top sheet. I'm not waking up in a puddle of sweat, so we count that a win. When it cools down a bit, I'll switch the sheet out for the Rest comforter and when it gets cold, I'll switch the Bearaby for my regular weighted blanket.

These types of blankets work by pulling heat and sweat away from your skin. They work better if you have a fan circulating air so the heat can disburse faster.

1 upvotes on reddit
Fluffy_Juggernaut_95 · 30 days ago

I'll have to try that. A habit I started years ago was to fall asleep with my feet out from under the sheet and any other bedding. In winter I'll start with my feet under the sheets and blanket and then move them out of the bedding and let them get cooler air. During the summer, I keep my armpits and neck free from being under the sheet because all or some of those areas can help regulate body temperature. Fibromyalgia can affect the hypothalamus region of the brain, the area that aids in controlling our body temperature. I've had episodes of being unbearable cold too, even in the summer, and I end up shivering under the sheet, blanket and comforter. Eventually I warm up. I'd rather be cold than hot though.

Agreeable-Ad9883 · 30 days ago

My $15 one from Amazon is my favorite blanket- I’m heat intolerant so anything that helps even a little helps a lot. The cool side is just polyester and the warm is cotton on mine. You could probably just make one if you can sew.

I have the same problem. I can get very cold, very easily (and I live in New England) but I have night sweats due to some medication. I just switched over to a linen and hemp comforter. So far, so good. It's super duper warm when I pair it with a cotton quilt[2]. It hasn't eliminated the night sweats completely but I'm satisfied. It's relatively fluffy and I like the weight. The only thing is the linen shell- a lot of people find linen to be rough. But it does get softer the more you wash it and use it. My old comforter was made of denim, so I'm used to something that's not silky smooth already.

Edit: One thing that also helps is to "jump-start" warming up with a rice sock or other heater. I get about 30 minutes of heat to defrost my toes and bring everything up to temperature.

I've always had extreme temperature swings during night so I know EXACTLY how you feel. I would start the night by hanging my toe or even leg outside the blankets because I felt too hot, then would wake up in the middle of the night too cold, then hot again, and the cycle went on. Needless to say I never slept too much and would get sick very often doing this.

I tried different combinations of blankets, pijamas, and even changed rooms but my problem didn't go away until I tried Sharper Image's thermoregulating blanket. This was really a gamechanger for me.

If you’re experiencing heat on the side you’re sleeping on, might I suggest getting a large one to sleep on and a smaller one to cover yourself. It’s a cool embrace and I found I don’t have as many night sweats. Bonus if you have a fan pointed at you in the night. I wish you cool and sweet dreams, friend.

I've been going back & forth if I should post about it or not, because maybe its just in my head, lol.

But, FWIW, Im a lady of a "certain age." The hot flashes are REAL, and the AZ heat is absolutely brutal.

That being said, I bought a random cooling blanket off Amazon in May & I'm sleeping better & waking up less per my Sleep Number app.

It's called Elegear & it's very, very cool to the touch & I really like it. However, it's a PIA to wash because you have to hang it, absolutely no drying or dry cleaning.

But IMHO, it has made the last few months more bearable. 🤷‍♀️🙏

I just checked, and I also have the Elegar, and it is great. For me, only one side of the blanket is cool, but it does give me the blanket feel I need. I also have the Hugsleep. I don't use that as much since it is difficult to run to the bathroom in the middle of the night. (You can keep your feet out, but you're wadding a bit like a penguin, so i keep it for those days I need more sensory sleep.)

The answer is duvet cover. You can put nothing in it or something very thin.

best cooling blankets for hot sleepers

Key Considerations for Cooling Blankets:

  1. Material: Look for breathable fabrics like cotton, bamboo, or specialized cooling materials (e.g., Tencel or Outlast) that wick moisture and regulate temperature.

  2. Weight: Lightweight blankets are generally better for hot sleepers, as they provide comfort without trapping heat. A weight of around 1-2 pounds is ideal.

  3. Thermal Regulation: Some blankets are designed with temperature-regulating technology that adapts to your body heat, keeping you cool throughout the night.

  4. Washability: Ensure the blanket is machine washable for easy maintenance, especially if you sweat during the night.

  5. Size: Choose a blanket that fits your bed size. A larger blanket can provide better coverage and comfort.

Recommendations:

  • ChiliPad Sleep System: This is a high-tech option that allows you to control the temperature of the blanket via an app, making it perfect for personalized cooling.

  • Eucalypso Cooling Blanket: Made from Tencel, this blanket is soft, breathable, and excellent at moisture-wicking, making it a great choice for hot sleepers.

  • Sijo Eucalyptus Blanket: Another great option made from eucalyptus fibers, known for their cooling properties and breathability.

  • YnM Cooling Weighted Blanket: If you prefer the feel of a weighted blanket, this option uses breathable materials that help regulate temperature while providing the calming effect of weight.

Choosing the right cooling blanket can significantly improve your sleep quality, especially if you're a hot sleeper. Consider your personal preferences and any specific needs you may have when making your choice.
