TL;DR
Recommended Brands
CoolJams is frequently mentioned as an excellent option for those who experience night sweats. Users have praised its ability to wick away moisture effectively, comparing it favorably against other brands like Soma [2:1]
[2:3]. Soma's Cool Nights collection is another popular choice among users who prioritize comfort and cooling during sleep
[2:5]
[2:8].
Fabric Choices
Natural fabrics are generally recommended for hot sleepers due to their breathability. Cotton, linen, bamboo, and Tencel are all suggested as they help regulate temperature and wick moisture away from the body [4:3]
[4:6]. Linen is particularly noted for its cooling properties, although it lacks stretch and may require sizing up for a comfortable fit
[4:9].
Alternative Solutions
Some users have found success with non-traditional solutions, such as using a mattress cooler that circulates chilled water through a pad under the fitted sheet. This can create a cooler sleeping environment, allowing for more comfort even when wearing pajamas [1:1].
Budget-Friendly Options
For those on a budget, looking for pajamas made from natural fibers at discount retailers like TJMaxx or Burlington can be a cost-effective approach. Brands like Pact, Tommy John, and Life Is Good offer options in cotton, modal, rayon, Tencel, and bamboo, which are suitable for warm weather [4:4].
Considerations Beyond Pajamas
While pajamas are important, it's also beneficial to consider bedding materials. Some users recommend flax linen sheets for their temperature regulation properties [2:6], while others emphasize avoiding polyester and focusing on breathable plant-based fibers
[4:6].
Title says it all. Would be best if the pajamas are made to fit a male body.
Ok idk anything about good pajamas for hot sleepers as I prefer nothing. BUT I highly recommend the Cold Flash by mattress-cooler.com. It chills water and circulates it through a mattress pad under your fitted sheet. The few times I do end up falling asleep with my pajamas on it’s because my bed is already cold so I don’t get too hot. This thing seriously changed the way I sleep.
I need suggestions on the best/coolest/lightweight (etc.) pajamas! Preferably from Amazon. I know I’ll still prob wake up in a puddle of sweat but I’d love suggestions to try!☺️
Always look for natural fabrics as they are breathable. That goes for bedding too. I only use cotton or bamboo.
Yeaaaaah I’m going to politely own my strong disagree. I like my bamboo sheets but for the sheer VOLUME of sweat, I love my CoolJams nightgowns. They get the moisture off me. It’s a bit like running gear but feels a bit more cottony
Boody brand bamboo
Soma cool nights
I’m a Soma believer, that’s literally all I wear. I wish they made bedding, I would buy it too.
I have both Soma and CoolJams and CoolJams is SO MUCH better for anyone who really sweats and overheats like me.
Have you tried real flax linen sheets? They’re SO good for temperature regulation and I’ll never use anything else now.
They are pricey but they only get better over time and last forever.
I was just wondering the same this morning -as I woke up looking like I just took a shower and nvm the bed being soaked whether I need to fashion pajamas out of diapers at this point!
Whoever figures out how to keep sheets and skin dry all night will make millions- I’m not smart enough to consider more than diapers sown together.
I wear nothing that isn't 100 percent cotton
I have no affiliation and yet I CANNOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH: CoolJams
COOLJAMS - specifically the long night gowns
They’re the only thing that kept me dry during even the worst of it. I’ve tried multiple brands including SOMA. I have ONE freakishly expensive fine weave cotton nightgown from a fancy LA brand helping women in poverty in the 3rd world that almost keeps up but for the price it doesn’t work as well and it needs to be washed and dried more carefully.
I have a few nightgowns from CoolJams that are butt ugly because a lot of nightgowns in my size were sold out so yes I’ll take the Miss Piggy pink one that’s a size too large and makes me look unwell. Oddly I don’t find the PJs as drying. I also prefer the nightgowns because my lady parts are grumpy old ladies that need to breath at night. The nightgowns particularly with the faint patterns are like all the wicking of wearing marathon training gear but feel relatively cotton-like, not silky. Not the same as cotton but not as gross as actual workout gear.
My sweat situation was incredibly gross and just wearing these also kept me a bit less disgusting and stinky.
Pro tip: do NOT dry on anything other than a low dryer temp unless you’re short. One shrunk a bit lengthwise on medium dry which I as a tall woman did not like.
I also have: bamboo sheets, a temperature regulating mattress pad and pillow and a fan running all summer.
Now that I’m on HRT the CoolJams aren’t as critical to my sanity but I still really like them.
Thank you for this!!!
My armpits and legs get so sweaty at night that I have to change my clothes more than once to avoid being completely drenched so Im wondering what some good lightweight and loose pajamas there r to try? Ive tried wearing a simple tank top but even that ends up completely drenched, and I dont want to sleep bare, so pls tell me what pajamas work well😭
If you can afford it, linen is a really great material. Nice and cooling and breathable
I have sensory issues and I wear shorts and Bella canvas t shirts
my absolute FAVORITE pajamas are from a brand called stars above, they're really lightweight but soft and I love the material (major sensory issues here). they're also cute which is a bonus :3
omg those look so cute!! Ill check them out next time im at the store thank u!!!!!
yes ofc!! im wearing mine rn LOL
Who makes quality pajamas for HOT weather? What fabrics are best? Having a hard time finding shirt/tank/shorts pajama sets that aren't fast fashion or sweaty spandex type fabrics.
I have a set of tencel pjs (t-shirt and shorts) from girlfriend collective, as well as two secondhand sets of tencel pjs (also t-shirt and shorts) from athleta that I got on Poshmark. Tencel is fabulous for sleeping in warm weather!
Thank you!
Poplin cotton or linen are best for warm weather.
Thanks. I'll see what options I can find in those fabrics!
Sleepwear designer here. Focus on fabric and fiber, not brand. For God sake do not sleep in polyester. Cotton, linen, bamboo, rayon/viscose, modal are all solid plant based options. Silk is amazing to sleep in. What's your budget? I can recommend some brands.
I'd love silk, but def don't have a silk budget at the moment. I'd like to be in the $30-50 per shirt/tank kind of range, but not sure how realistic that is for good fabrics/fibers.
Check out Pact.
Your budget won't afford many super ethically or sustainability made pajamas like Dagsmejan, Cozy Earth,Tekla, or Eberjey, but if you focus on fibers and know how to shop them, you can go to places like TJMaxx or Burlington and shop their sleep section. The Born brand has a lot of modal. In regular department stores I would recommend Tommy John and Life Is Good would have some good cotton/modal/rayon/tencel/bamboo pajamas.
Good online brands would be Boden, Bums & Roses, Printfresh, and Katie Kime.
You can get silk shirts for cheap if you're okay with buttons: https://posh.mk/vSAYsVk1OSb Filter by your size and set sort low to high, Good luck!
Could you recommend some brands?
Especially linen or silk
Even the cheap cotton shorts and t shirt I have are better than any "nice" dept store PJs. Especially in summer.
Fabric choice is truly an underrated consideration.
Also what brands, out of curiosity, do you recommend?
Linen and 100% cotton is a game changer for me. Just make sure to know your measurements for linen and be prepared to size up if you are curvy because it has no stretch whatsoever.
Following!
I've tried several cooling products of all sorts, and TBH I don't think any of them really make a whole lot of diff.
Any suggestions for good quality pajamas?
I usually just sleep in old T-shirts and some cotton shorts but I’ve noticed it wears out fast and currently living in a very hot area (and sadly some sweat) tend to smell quick.
Making some changes to the wardrobe by getting rid of old things and hoping to get some newer, quality things to last longer moving forward and obviously one bag when needed.
Since we're in the onebag sub...
My rule is the PJ's I pack have to be something I can also wear in public. So it's usually a looser fitting T-shirt and some cute slim fit joggers I got at TJ Maxx (cause I have a hard time sleeping when I'm cold).
Could easily swap out for running shorts to accommodate the heat though!
I usually do that but the old tees and stuff are wearing out so I’d like something more durable.
And I totally get that! I guess my approach this time around here was one bag with what you already have, and since I’m cleaning out old things i want something dedicated to sleep so I’ll wear it regularly at home too. I usually wear gym things to sleep (shorts/joggers/etc) when I plan to go to the gym or workout the next morning (save myself getting dressed next morning) but can’t rewear that so for the off days a dedicated PJ set would be nice that I don’t have to wash immediately after one night/workout.
Me too!! A looser t shirt and gym shirts are usually what I pack. I tend to sleep without pajamas but have them if I need them. I can also use them for other casual things (breakfast, running to the front desk for a question etc) or if its hotter than expected and i need the shorts for a hike or other activity.
I’ll wear gym things to sleep if I’m going to the gym thing same day but of course they reek afterward so for the travel times I’d like something separate that isn’t immediately in need of washing after that use.
The lightness of the Tencel-spandex fabric won me over — I like how it doesn’t cling — and there’s no gaping between the buttons. So I’m adding my voice to the chorus of folks who have recommended the pajamas to us before
I like the Gap for lightweight cotton separates and nighties. They often go on sale and last forever.
My next pajama splurge will probably be some pima cotton Lake pajamas, but I know I’ll end up back with Gap like always.
Your timing is great cause they’ve got a massive sale going on.
By any chance have you tried the modal stuff?
Yes, for a while the cotton stuff was hard to find, and I bought a couple pairs of the modal lounge pants. I’m actually a big fan, even though I usually dislike synthetic fabrics.
Really enjoying my Lunya set! (Quite a treat myself moment) Also really love the Stars Above boxed sets from Target! They're $20 and have a matching set and sleep mask!
Lunya certainly seems like a splurge but if it lasts, I think it could be worth it! I also like brands that do try to focus on sustainability.
Although maybe I’ll wait for a sale. :)
I hope you can snag a pair on sale! Definitely not the smartest financial decision I've ever made, but I do really love them
Chill Angel merino sleepwear. Worth the money. In a pinch, you can wear the pieces during the day too. https://chillangel.com/collections/slumber
I’ve always preferred commando when sleeping since it’s get the most comfortable for me. Now that I’m expecting to be a father, I’m going to have to find the next best thing. When sleeping away from my house I often just wear my underwear, but in the long term I think that’d be uncomfortable.
I'm a dad that sleeps commando. Why do you have to find the next best thing? Keep a sheet on the bed. Wrap it around you if you need to get up while the kids are around. When they're really little, they'll giggle about nudity...just as they giggle as they streak through the house. When they get older, they avoid your bedroom at all cost, lest they see more of you than they want to. It's a win/win all around.
Solid plan....my dad did this.. we knew to avoid the their bedroom and the hot tub at all costs.
Basketball shorts no shirt in the warm months sweatpants no shirt in the colder months
Basketball shorts sound better than underwear for sure
I've always slept in my underwear too, until I went traveling and stayed In hostels with mixxed gender dorms so I started sleeping in a loose shirt and sport shorts. And honestly, I prefer that now.
I sleep nude
Nude is the only answer unless you have someone else In the room that is not your SO.
I feel like this statement unfairly implies that people other than my SO wouldn't want to see me nude.
Loose shirt and basketball shorts, or what I like best is a pair of pajama shorts with the knee seems ripped out, and a loose shirt in arms reach from where I’m sleeping. Feels like I’m sleeping commando but I’m covered
I sleep in the bare minimum, fan on high, one leg out like it’s a ritual. If you’re looking for modesty, come back in December.
The leg. Its always the leg that gets the body cool just enough for sleep. I mentally try to send all my heat to that leg, but it never works.
And then I wake up freezing. Every. Time.
Gotta have the "breathing foot" out.
My daughter bought a bed cooling system. It has small tubes throughout the topper that circulates cold water, by means of a control unit. They are pricey, but very effective.
yeah, I was hoping to hear more unconventional things like this, or some secret drugs.
https://sleep.me/ this is the one I use. Does a great job of keeping me cool
I use something similar called Bed Jet that blows air. You can set the temp on the remote or app. Does AC plus heat so even in the winter it's an amazing addition. Kinda pricy but worth it considering how much time we spend in our beds
I sleep while smoking a cigarette and wearing sunglasses. It’s very cool.
Dr. Cigarettes over here
Ceiling fan, stand fan, and a very lightweight blanket
Get nekkid.
So over the past 5 or 6 years since I took up backpacking again, I have been trying to finally get a good night sle, p after many nights where I only get a negligible amount of sleep. I feel like I finally have my pad/pillow situation figured out, but I am still struggling with temperature control.
I was out last weekend using a tensor insulated pad (4.2R), a summerlite 32 sleeping bag, and a protrail li tent (set up tail into the wind for a nice breeze coming through). Night temps were predicted to be 36, but I'm not sure the actual. I would guess 40. For clothes, I had on a light cotton shirt and light loose cotton pants. I fell asleep quickly (a rarity), but woke up super hot, especially from my waist to the bottom of my thighs. I unzipped the bag which did not help. I tried using the bag unzipped as a blanket, but still was super hot. I tried the old stick-out-the-leg trick, but then I was hot in the bag with a super cold leg. I ended sleeping on and off, but felt gross, sweaty and miserable the whole time. I'm trying to decide my next steps.
I already have 20 quilt, the 32 bag, and a 50 quilt. So I'm nervous taking a 50 quilt when the weather says it will be in the 30s. But maybe I should underspec my quilt and then expect to put on a fleece or down jacket if needed. Or maybe I should switch to an uninsulated pad? I'm not sure if dropping 2 Rs might help. Anyway, I would love to hear any suggestions from hot sleepers. Incidentally, my buddy slept all night like a baby in his 0f bag.
Get a less insulating pad potentially, trying to sleep with an xtherm for instance is misery for me if the temps only fall to 45 or so
Why not just use the quilt like a blanket and just cover your midsection. You always have the option of setting it up correctly if you wake up cold.
I did try something like that, but at 40 or less, any uncovered body parts get too cold. I guess I could consider putting on more clothes. It's actually less of an issue when the temps are a bit warmer as I can uncover/cover easily. I find this strategy more difficult in colder weather where I feel like it is either super cold with no cover, or being in an oven when covered.
Yup. Stick your feet out to cool down or allow drafts when needed.
The problem is once you are very hot or very cold, it’s hard to turn around. You are playing it safe by over preparing for cold potential, which is natural, but not serving you well.
Try going lighter, but have handy the means to get warmer again if you go the other way. Maybe you need to set an alarm (while figuring this out) so you can monitor your changes before they get as extreme.
Start using your bag more quilt like. You can zip it up if you start getting cold. Have insulation layers and hat handy, etc. This way you shouldn’t feel so concerned about erring on the warm side so much.
Thanks I think packing a lighter quilt and extra layers may be the way to go, then I can add as needed. I can't believe how warm the summerlite is. I think western mountaineering is very conservative on their temp ratings. It feels as warm at least as my 20 degree quilt.
I sleep super hot too. Often time I was allow a draft into my quilt so it mixed with the heat I’m producing. Another is I wrap my quilt around my core and let my legs breathe. It’s a little cold on my skin but the blood cooling off in your legs then returning to your core to be warmed up again can help regulate temp.
What probably did the most for me was switching to an uberlite. If you let the ground suck out more heat, you’ll be more comfortable. I use an uberlite until about freezing.
Thanks I have a cheap sleepingo pad I bought for my daughter I will try
One thing that works for me (understaffed quilt/bag with horizontal baffles) is smash the down over to the edges, or one side, and try and sleep under the thinned-out section.
good idea thx!
Interested to know how you fight the heat during sleep 🌝
Cotton pj dress.

Best pajamas for hot sleepers
Key Considerations for Hot Sleepers:
Fabric Breathability: Look for lightweight, breathable fabrics such as cotton, linen, or moisture-wicking materials. These fabrics help regulate body temperature and allow for better airflow.
Fit: Choose loose-fitting pajamas to promote airflow and prevent overheating. Avoid tight or restrictive designs that can trap heat.
Moisture-Wicking Properties: Consider pajamas with moisture-wicking technology, which helps draw sweat away from the body, keeping you dry and comfortable throughout the night.
Temperature Regulation: Some brands offer temperature-regulating fabrics that adapt to your body heat, providing a cooler sleeping experience.
Seasonal Options: Consider having different sets for different seasons. Lightweight shorts and tank tops for summer, and breathable long-sleeve options for cooler nights.
Recommendations:
Eberjey Gisele Pajama Set: Made from a soft modal blend, it’s lightweight and breathable, perfect for hot sleepers.
Lunya Washable Silk Set: This set is made from breathable silk that helps regulate temperature while being luxurious and comfortable.
