Hey guys, I’m currently in a drought of crime dramas to watch. If you can think of anything please let me know! I like all kinds of crime dramas so
Mindhunter although it was not renewed. I really liked Narcos & Breaking Bad. And if you have access to HBO - Mare of Easttown
Edit. Oops. Looks like there might be a new season of Mindhunter!
Mindhunter wasn't renewed??? 😭😭
The first season was so good. The second, not so much as it felt (and was) unfinished IMO :(
The Departed is on Netflix now. Must watch IMO
yes great movie by martin scorsese with leonardo dicaprio and matt damon
the ending >! is so unexpected tho, it definitely caught me off guard !<
The Wire Bosch The Shield Sopranos
Add Luther for the fab five
I’ll add two Billy Bobs: Fargo Goliath
All of these are phenomenal shows. Just a heads up, though, that none of them are on netflix.
The wire = HBOMax
Bosch = Amazon prime
The Shield = Hulu
The Sopranos = HBOMax
Not sure about best of all time, but the Killing is a quality TV series.
Heat, the tension between Pacino and De Niro is fantastic. Great return performance from Val Kilmer. Great all around movie.
No where to be found on Netflix anymore. Why do they do this. With so much mediocre crap on the site??
I hate to be picky about it but if the show doesn’t grab my attention in the first 2-3 episodes then I’m done with it. I know not every show will be a masterpiece but I love crime dramas with great stories and cinematography. Any you can recommend that’s really worth the time?
Below is the list of shows I’ve seen.

Deadwood -a premier HBO series from around 2000 and one of the shows to put HBO on the map. It's an old West show starring Timothy Olyphant and Ian Mc Shane.
Justified -small town KY crime show with Walter Goggins as the main villain and Timothy Olyphant as the Marshall.
The Godfather of Harlem - crime show that takes place in the 70s that weaves actual historical figures Into the drama. This stars Forrest Whitaker and several of the mob guys from the Sopranos.
Fargo- an anthology series of small town murders.
Its been a while since i’ve watched something i’ve been really invested it, especially something crime/thriller/horror i love that stuff. Any recommendations?
Here's just a few...lol
Seconding Clickbait ... that was pretty good! Safe was excellent too.
Caliphate was awesome.
The Serpent
Good but very long and slow.
YES. Loved that one
Seven
If you like Heist movies (Oceans 11, etc) check out Money Heist. It is a Spanish series about an group that robs the Spanish Mint.
I have watched just about every crime drama out there it feels like, but I am craving more, does anybody have any good suggestions?
Any of the Criminal iterations on Netflix are incredible. Criminal UK has been my favorite. The Five is fantastic. If you haven't tapped into UK television you are in for a treat. I love Top Boy.
Absolutely this one will satisfy your crime drama craving. It has the same vibes as broad church. It’s on hbo max though
I enjoyed Broadchurch. Three seasons. It is set in Britain or Scotland. It is nice to watch a show that doesn't end with a gruteous gun fight.
Loved Broadchurch. There’s an American version, still with David Tennant, called Gracepoint.
Happy Valley is similar but I liked it more. I watched it on Netflix a few years ago - not sure where it's streaming now but would highly recommend.
I think it is good but very very drawn out. They could have wrapped everything up neatly in 2 enjoyable seasons.
Both actors playing the lead detectives were great. Good chemistry. The victims dad was irritating.
True Detective seasons 1 & 3. Some great writing and incredible acting. Highly recommended but be warned it’s dark subject matter.
The Bridge is good.
Edit: sorry, sorry, sorry. TD isn’t on NF. My bad.
Yes!
Season 1: 10/10
Season 2: 8/10
Season 3: 6/10
The Fall is on Prime....and I loved that show!
The Killing and, as stated before, Broadchurch.
The Killing is one of my all-time favourites
Broadchurch is GREAT!!!
This one. First two seasons are great. Not sure how they keep it up though.
I really enjoyed Mindhunter and The Sinner. Are there any similar shows on netflix that have the same genre? I enjoy slow burn shows that have a serious tone throughout.
Movies are welcome too but no true crime documentaries though. I've probably seen every true crime documentary on netflix by now.
Thanks!
Edit: Oh wow I didn't expect this many responses. Thanks for all the recommendations! I'll check them out over the weekend
One of the best I’ve seen in a long time is broadchurch, a British show on Netflix. Really good
The British are fantastic at making crime shows and true crime.
If you like British crime shows watch Line of Duty. It’s amazing!
Yes, I love that they DONT use excessive shooting and action but that they really develop the story. Really well done.
The fall is a great Jamie dornan serial killer, crime show.
I second this! The first two seasons had a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I’ve seen a lot of Broadchurch recommendations here and I will add Happy Valley. Both are on par with The Fall, but not as dark. Still dark, but not as dark.
Definitely. The Fall was great, very dark and suspenseful. Gillian Anderson and Jaime Dornan both did a great job with their characters.
Especially the first few seasons. Binge it on a rainy day!
Broadchurch is my favorite of the genre.
I loved Broadchurch! I only wish it had more stories.
I loved the 3rd season.. the twist at the end
If you have HBO I strongly reccommed The Wire. Imo, best show of the genre. And I agree about Bosch, excellent. Plus there are several actors from The Wire on it.
I have a few days off (It's a holiday in my country) and I am looking for my next binge.
I already watched most of Ozark, Stranger Things, Black Orphan (I am on the 2nd season and I am quitting), Squid games, Money Heist.
I tried Mr Robot and I am not liking it as much as I was told I would. I tried Dark but I find it very difficult to follow. Watched the first two episodes of Narcos and the constant narration turned me off.
In the past I watched Prison Break, Breaking Bad (my favorite so far), Lost, Better Call Saul.
Thanks in advance.
It’s not exactly what you asked for, but the new “The Lincoln Lawyer” on Netflix is a super fun watch and you may enjoy it.
I just finished the full run of Justified on Hulu, a show I really liked but lost track of during its original run. It was FANTASTIC, even better than I remember. They really kept the pace of that show moving. Always kept me on the edge of my seat. Cannot reco it highly enough to action/thriller fans.
Huge thanks.
Based on squid game: alice in borderlands - still people playing ‘games’ albeit in a different setting
Ozark/BB: how to sell drugs online (fast) - basically teenage breaking bad
Additionally, if you want to flip the script: undercover (and prequel movie Ferry) is an amazing series about cops trying to go after a big dutch xtc manufacturer. (Season 2 is skippable if it doesn’t quite grab your interest, season 3 is great again)
Thanks a million. I hope they have it in my country.
I think those are pretty internationally available
This does remind me of Fargo. Every season is a different story and it’s quite interesting. Think you might like it based on what you named, but that one isn’t always available
And I’ll also add the first season of Altered Carbon to the recommendations (you can continue but the first season is best and a finished whole itself)
Let me know what you thought if you end up watching it!
Lupin is super fun and creative.
Thanks. Much appreciated.
On HBO: Barry, Watchmen, Lovecraft Country.
On Hulu: Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, Black Sails, 12 Monkeys, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
On Showtime (you can do a 30-day free trial): Yellowjackets, the first 4 seasons of Dexter.
On Prime: The Americans.
Looking for something that I can binge watch and also has quite a few seasons. I not long finished animal kingdom thought they was excellent so maybe something similar to that. I have also watched alot of the more popular series to put it out there. Thanks
It’s on Peacock! Just added it to my list bc of this thread, excited to start it once I get home!
Perhaps you could watch via AppleTV (on Britbox or AcornTV). There are free trial periods but a month subscription would be worth it to binge the 6 seasons!
Broadchurch
Is this on Netflix?
the best along with Happy Valley.
Thanks, I liked this and Broadchurch a lot
Ozark.
I love it. All seasons of it except the part 2 of last season. They did ruth dirty
Line of Duty
Mindhunters first season especially
The killing
Third season got cancelled sadly but there's still speculations that it'll come out
True Detective, The Fall, The Jinx, and Happy Valley are some of my favourites.
Mindhunter is pretty good
Nightcrawler
Evil Genius is one of my favorites
Do u think Brian? was a part of it?
Crime show: broadchurch, ozark, the mire, the end of the fucking world, the stranger Documentary: trials of Gabriel Fernandez (graphic), the staircase (also graphic), don't fuck with cats, unsolved mysteries, alcasser murders, abducted in plain sight, tell me who I am Movies: uncut gems, the girl on the train.
Good list.
Im looking for a fast paced, suspenseful drama/crime show. Looking for something with a good story line and a charismatic mc. I like a romance/sex narrative, I loved banshee, true detective, breaking bad, ozark, and many others similar to these. As long as it is like somewhat upon the lines of this criteria, any recommendations would be very appreciated :)
Edit: I’d prefer if the series has multiple seasons as I like to get invested in a show :)
The Killing
I wouldn't call it "fast paced" if you mean over in an hour.
This is, however, one of my favourite crime shows. Most definitely doesn't drag at all.
It's a version of the Danish television series titled Forbrydelsen.
Both excellent and can highly recommend. Sometimes the English remakes don't quite hit it but this is an absolute win.
My favorite! I’ve watched a lot of crime shows and The Killing is top tier
Loved The Killing! Such a gritty suspenseful show!
Also Arrested Development. It's fast paced in that if you aren't paying attention you'll miss a lot of it, but also still followable if you just casually watch. There's also a lot of taboo type romance.
A fast paced crime show about a family involved in embezzlement, espionage, market manipulation, and incest. Set in the early days of the war on terror, Could Sadam Hussein be the key to all of their troubles? Watch Arrested Development now.
Check out some from Britain…my faves include: Marcella, Line of Duty, The Fall (with Gillian Anderson), Broadcurch, Wallander and Young Wallander (a prequel).
Line of Duty is excellent. Ill second your recommendation
Have seen all your recommendations except Wallander That will be next for this weekend.
Broadchurch felt more like a slow burn show to me, the first two seasons were amazing. I wouldn't describe it as fast paced, but rather slow, methodical, and character driven.
The Fall was so good. I wish they would’ve kept going with it.
I just finished binging it, What an outstanding series.
Do you have any crime shows that you absolutely love but they tend to fly under the radar? There have plenty of really popular choices in the last few years that we've been obsessed with, like Line of Duty and Broadchurch, but are there any shows that aren't the go-to suggestions?
We're really keen to hear any and all recommendations!
The Night Of was exceptional. Just perfect.
Yes, but dammit if that show didn’t depress the crap out of me!
Yeah tbf it was exactly joyous...
The Killing.
Mr Inbetween
The dialogues and the situations feel so realistic that everything feels theatrical compared to it. It's also great in mixing terrible and funny in a way that these only compliment each other.
I don't answer questions.
CB Strike
giri/haji (duty/shame) on netflix. set in japan and the UK. family loyalty and conflict. yakuza mobsters. cops. it’s suspenseful and moving. gorgeous cinematography which is something i rarely even notice! the last episode is particularly stunning. not enough people know this show, under appreciated gem.
best crime dramas on Netflix
Here are some top crime dramas currently available on Netflix:

Unbelievable

Recommendation: If you're looking for a mix of psychological depth and thrilling plots, start with Mindhunter or Ozark. Both series offer a compelling blend of character-driven narratives and suspenseful storytelling that keeps you engaged throughout.
