What Redditors are Saying

Best Eye Makeup Remover for Sensitive Skin

TL;DR

  • Cleansing Balms and Oils: Consider products like Naturium's Ginseng Cleansing Balm or Banila Clean It Zero.
  • Gentle Options: Clinique Take The Day Off and Cetaphil Gentle Makeup Remover are popular choices.
  • Natural Alternatives: Coconut oil and olive oil are gentle options for sensitive skin.

Cleansing Balms and Oils

Cleansing balms and oils are frequently recommended for removing eye makeup gently. Products such as Naturium's Ginseng Cleansing Balm [1:1], Banila Clean It Zero [2:4], and Beauty of Joseon Cleansing Balm [4:1] have been praised for their effectiveness and gentleness. These products help dissolve makeup without the need for harsh scrubbing, which can be particularly beneficial for sensitive skin.

Gentle Makeup Removers

Clinique Take The Day Off is a highly recommended product that comes in both balm and liquid forms. It's known for being effective on waterproof mascara without causing irritation [5:2]. Similarly, Cetaphil Gentle Makeup Remover is noted for its gentleness and effectiveness [4:7]. Both products are suitable for individuals with sensitive skin and provide thorough cleansing without discomfort.

Natural Alternatives

For those seeking natural alternatives, coconut oil and olive oil are suggested as gentle options for removing eye makeup [2:5][4:2]. These oils can be applied directly to the eyelids and wiped off with a warm washcloth, providing a soothing experience without irritation. However, it's important to ensure that these oils do not clog pores, especially around the lash line [4:4].

Micellar Water and Target Brand

Micellar water remains a favorite for many due to its gentle nature and effectiveness in removing makeup [5:4]. Brands like Garnier and Bioderma offer micellar waters that are well-suited for sensitive skin. Additionally, the Target brand "Up & Up" has been mentioned as an affordable and gentle option for eye makeup removal [5:3].

Recommendations Beyond Discussions

When choosing an eye makeup remover for sensitive skin, consider avoiding wipes as they may require excessive scrubbing and could irritate the skin further. Opt for products specifically designed for sensitive skin, and if possible, test samples before committing to full-sized purchases.

ORIGINAL POST

Hi, recently I had a bit of an... eye injury? somewhat where my eyelids and undereyes turn very dry, red, and has a burning sensation, so i figured it's either bug bites or my products. i saw someone say makeup wipes could be the cause of it so i was thinking if there was any eye makeup remover that wouldn't have these effects?

for reference; i use purito mighty bamboo panthenol cream, simple gentle facial wash, simple micellar water boost gel wash and simple makeup wipes. used to use garnier micellar water but haven't bought one in a while because i thought wipes were more convenient.

Need help finding eye makeup remover that doesn't irritate my skin

Posted by kaibacorp345 · in r/30PlusSkinCare · 1 year ago
post image

I've recently started wearing makeup 5 days a week for work. When I get home and remove my makeup, I use the pictured eye makeup remover with HEB cotton rounds to get rid of eye shadow, eye liner and mascara. It works as intended, but with one major drawback; it irritates the skin around my eyes like crazy.

For some reason it burns every time.

Any advice on better products?

I like using a cleansing balm and then micellar water to get any remaining mascara. Follow with cleanser. The body shop camomile eye makeup remover is my favourite, very gentle.

TellMeRUThatSomebody · 1 year ago

I also use a cleansing balm; I use Banila's Clean It Zero, the original one in the pink box. I use it all over my face. It takes off everything, even notoriously difficult mineral sunscreen. If I'm wearing waterproof mascara, I prefer to start with Garnier micellar water (with the blue top, shake just before use) just for the mascara, then finish with the Clean It Zero for the whole face and another once-over on the eyes.

This is it. I use Elemis balm and let it sit for a bit, then micellar water to remove residual eye makeup.

Old school cold cream is the only makeup remover I've used that doesn't burn my eyes or lips. It's always worked well for me, even on the waterproof mascara/lipsticks.

2nd the magic of cold cream! i used to be in theater and it would take off alllll the pancake makeup!

wipe it off with cheap baby wipes and keep reusing the wipe by rinsing it off till it’s all gone, then do a last sweep with a thin layer and one last baby wipe

i also buy cheap facial cleaner to literally clean the baby wipes or my washcloth, but never for my actual skin

Clinique take the day off is excellent. But it's expensive, I'd try a sample before splurging on some.

Came to suggest this. I prefer the liquid version. The balm version last much longer though. I don't know if this bottle will ever finish. Lol

Yes to Clinique! The liquid or the balm products are great. You can usually get one of the liquid sample sizes in a promotion on their website.

Anbefaling af Øjenmakeupfjerner til meget sensitive øjne 🙏

Posted by _thisisnat_ · in r/WomenDK · 4 months ago

Hej!

Okay dramatic eye lovers.... best remover??

Posted by LoveMy3Kitties · in r/MakeupAddiction · 6 months ago

Fellow eye makeup lovers... team 5 coats of mascara lovers.... glitter lovers 😍 I am desperate for eye makeup remover suggestions!!

I often work weird swing shifts at my job and am lacking sleep-- and taking off my eye makeup at night often feels entirely exhausting and annoying. I really need an eye makeup remover that I can apply or take off with cotton pads. I make a giant mess of water trying to wash my face at the sink at night so I rely heavily on cleansing waters for nighttime cleansing, and use my foamy cleaners when I shower in the morning.

I am desperate for recommendations that will take off all my mascara, liquid liner, and glittery eye makeup easier when I'm tired and grumpy at night after work and have to work closing shift/then open shift next day 🥺 Lately I've been having such a struggle removing all my mascara (not even waterproof) that I end up with dry and irritated eyelids too 🤕 Bonus points for drugstore options, but I'd love to hear any favorites! Please help 💗🥲 Thank you!!!! 💜💝

Hear me out, Olive oil. I just put like a nickel sized amount in the palm of my hand and dip my fingers into it and them rub it onto my eyelids and eye makeup. Then, when it's all broken up I take a very warm (not hot, don't burn yourself) wet wash cloth, wring out most of the water and wipe away all your makeup off. No watery, splash mess. Toss the cloth in laundry hamper.

This method is called oil cleansing method and can be used with jojoba, coconut oil if you prefer. Then, I literally put cream on my face, put on my glasses and get ready for bed.

I have dry sensitive skin and it works well for me. My lashes are longer and my skin is less red, softer overall since I stopped using Neutrogena makeup wipes.

Thank you!!!!! I've been thinking of trying castor oil. I have oily acne-prone skin so I've only hesitantly tried coconut oil before when I was in a pinch. I don't wear a ton of face makeup, so I'm feeling a lot more brave to oil cleanse just around my eyes to save my irritated eyelids 💓🥲

nervous_piglet001 · 5 months ago

My honest opinion. Using regular oil is hard to take off. Cleansing oils contain emulsifiers specifically to do this job. They emulsify with water and hence come off when you wash. Considering you’re trying to remove eye make up, you don’t want to clog the pores at lash line and cause styes.

1 upvotes on reddit
nervous_piglet001 · 6 months ago

Lancome one is really good. Unfortunately it’s pricey :( tbh that’s the only one I have liked so far. Most of them really don’t do much other than irritate your eyes. Try Korean ones, may be they work well

I usually just use cleansing oil to take my make up off (including mascara) and then use another water based cleanser to clean ( basically double cleansing).

4 upvotes on reddit
LoveMy3Kitties · OP · 5 months ago

Thank you!!!! Which cleansing oil is your favorite?

My friend heard my struggles and recently gifted me a Korean cleansing balm which has worked really well-- it would work way better though if I washed it off with water over the sink, so I know it is my user error/user stubbornness lol 🥲💜

I still need to go over it with cotton pads soaked in cleansing water but otherwise it has been the best one I've tried so far. It's called Heimish All Clean Balm.

The best eye makeup remover for sensitive skin?

Posted by no_not_like_that · in r/Makeup · 4 years ago

I haven't been a daily makeup wearer for a few years and while at first it was due to my job, now it's because it's just so painful and irritating to take off at the end of the day.

I have very sensitive dry skin and have been using neutrogena wipes to remove makeup in the past but they kind of suck tbh and I have to really scrub to get mascara off with them even though I don't even wear waterproof mascara.

Does anyone have any recommendations??

Wipes don't clean your skin properly. Try using a cleansing balm or an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup, I'd recommend The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm, it's very gentle. If you still need an eye makeup remover, Glossier or Garnier do nice ones.

7 upvotes on reddit
claireydairy · 4 years ago

I recommend using something different for the eyes (I use a makeup wipe for my face then oil free remover for eyes). I take a cotton round and put a generous amount on, and hold it on my eye and leave it for about 10 seconds before rubbing. This significantly helps break up the makeup and you won’t be tugging as much!

Edit: I also have dry sensitive skin and use the target brand of oil free makeup remover. Works well and is cheap!

Makeup remover for sensitive eyes

Does anyone have any good recommendations for an eye makeup remover? I’ve been using a makeup eraser for a while now and didn’t wear makeup much during the shutdown. Now that I’m wearing makeup more often I’m noticing when I take my makeup off with my makeup eraser my eyes are super red and itchy possibly from the tugging and rubbing it off? Any suggestions?

Be sure to always use a clean makeup eraser every time. Makeup eraser sells these small versions that are like little pads. There are 7 for something like $30. Use all 7 and then wash at the end of the week. Go ahead and cleanse as you normally would.

If this isn’t an option, then use cotton pads with a micellar water for your eyes. I also like Lancôme Difcil for eye makeup removal. Use a makeup wipe to take off foundations etc. Then cleanse as you would normally do.

Another alternative takes a note from our grandmothers. Ponds cold cream. Apply ponds cold cream all over your face and rub in a circular motion. Use Kleenex to wipe it off. Then go ahead cleanse yourself face as you normally would.

Good luck.

Remove Eye Makeup ??

Posted by Flowers-4-Brain · in r/Makeup · 3 months ago

How do you remove eye makeup, eyeliner, and mascara without:

  1. Scrubbing the heck out of your eyes with face wash because tugging is bad for the skin
  2. Without getting soap or makeup in your eyes and making it burn
  3. Having so much residue leftover even though you cleansed and rinsed it 3 times
  4. Without a makeup remover wipe because apparently those are bad for you too
  5. And not be harsh on the skin to do everyday

Seriously how???

Sensitive skin in general, and my all time favorite combo is Lancome Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover (it’s housed in a blue bottle but it’s clear- no dyes) and Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water with a soft cotton pad- no rubbing, just saturate in remover and let sit on your eye for 10 seconds, then dab away. The Lancome works a treat on waterproof eye makeup, otherwise the Bioderma works well for everything but.

Have you tried saturating a pad and letting it soak a bit on your closed lid over the heavy part of the make up (with whatever sensitive micelar water or oil free remover). Then you can pat it up with the pads once it’s been removed from your skin or lashes.

Gentlest applicator for eye makeup remover

Posted by AlienElditchHorror · in r/Makeup · 4 months ago

Hi friends, I love dramatic eye makeup, including big cat eye wings and good mascara, but it takes a while to remove completely at night. I have a favorite eye makeup remover that I currently use, but I have sensitive skin that is reactive to heat, pressure, etc. Currently I use either cotton balls or cotton rounds to remove my eye makeup, But even they feel scratchy and it feels like I have to rub too much to get my eyeliner and mascara completely off. I'm looking for a gentler applicator (for lack of a better word) with which to apply my eye makeup remover. (I'll also accept recommendations for better eye makeup remover that's also gentle and works more quickly to dissolve the makeup, If it means I'll rub my eyes less. I have hooded lids and maturing skin and I just want to be as gentle as possible on them.) Sometimes to make the process gentler I pre-apply the eye makeup remover or a gentle body oil like jojoba or safflower with my fingertips to pre-dissolve the makeup, but I still have to rub more than I like to.

Thanks in advance!

I use a cleansing balm (Clinique, but there are many) - it works on eye makeup, using only your own hands. Then I take off whatever’s left (mostly leftover mascara under my eyes) with a Makeup Eraser cloth. Those things are made of fluffy material, and super extra soft. They work when wet.

Barely any rubbing, a nice finger massage and a nice soft cloth!

L’Oreal Gentle Lip and Eye Makeup Remover is amazing. Removes my most stubborn eyeliner and mascara. I use a cotton pad. Press and hold on your eyes for 10 seconds. Press and hold then gently wipe. No rubbing required

Ty! My liquid eyeliner is pretty stubborn. I think it's Tattoo Studio. Do you think it will work on that? Like I use a lot of eye makeup 😏

I use Heroine Make and Maybelline. Used to use KVD eyeliner too. Oily eyelids so I need to use stuff that doesn’t budge. I think it should work. I use maybe 2 cotton pads per eye depending on how much eye makeup I used and whether there’s glitter

I second a cleansing balm. I use Byoma, which I got at target for probably $15. I really like it.

Cleansing Bob is great for liquefying make up. You can remove it with a wet washcloth or makeup removing cloth, but you will wanna follow up with a second gentle cleansing using your favorite facial cleanser

There's a reason they call glitter the herpes of craft supplies 😜... Even makeup glitter you're finding days later in random places😂

best eye makeup remover for sensitive skin

Key Considerations for Choosing an Eye Makeup Remover for Sensitive Skin:

  1. Gentle Formulation: Look for products labeled as "gentle," "hypoallergenic," or "for sensitive skin" to minimize irritation.

  2. Oil-Free Options: Consider oil-free removers, such as micellar water or gel formulas, which can effectively remove makeup without leaving a greasy residue.

  3. Fragrance-Free: Choose fragrance-free products to reduce the risk of allergic reactions and irritation.

  4. Soothing Ingredients: Look for ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile, or cucumber extract that can soothe and calm sensitive skin.

  5. Non-Comedogenic: Ensure the product is non-comedogenic to avoid clogging pores, especially if you have acne-prone skin.

Recommendations:

  • Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water: This is a cult favorite for sensitive skin. It's gentle, effective, and doesn't require rinsing.

  • Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover: This dual-phase formula is effective at removing waterproof makeup while being gentle on the eyes.

  • Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm: This balm transforms into an oil upon application, effectively removing makeup without irritation. It's fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive skin.

  • La Roche-Posay Micellar Water: Known for its soothing properties, this micellar water is great for sensitive skin and effectively removes makeup without irritation.

Choosing any of these options will help ensure that your eye makeup is removed effectively while keeping your sensitive skin comfortable and irritation-free.
