TL;DR
At-Home Facial Massage Tools
For those seeking stress relief and tension reduction, tools such as Gua Sha and facial rollers are highly recommended. These tools are praised for their ability to help with lymphatic drainage and sinus pressure [4:1]. They are simple to use and can provide a soothing experience, especially when incorporated into a regular skincare routine.
LED Masks
LED masks are another popular choice, with brands like Omnilux and CurrentBody being frequently mentioned. These masks are backed by studies demonstrating their effectiveness in improving skin conditions and reducing pain [4:2],
[5]. Users have reported significant relief from clenching pain and improvement in skin appearance when using these devices consistently
[5:3],
[5:4].
Scalp Massagers for Facial Use
While primarily designed for the scalp, some users have found success using scalp massagers on their face to relieve tension and TMJ pain [2]. The versatility of these devices makes them a valuable addition to any at-home massage toolkit, though caution is advised to avoid tangling hair
[2:3].
Multi-Function Devices
Devices that combine multiple functions, such as EMS, radiofrequency, cryotherapy, and LED, are also gaining popularity. The Magnitone FaceRocket is one such device, offering a comprehensive approach to facial care [4:2]. These multi-functional tools can address a variety of concerns, making them a worthwhile investment for those looking to enhance their skincare routine.
Considerations
When selecting a face massager, consider your specific needs and preferences. If you're looking for a budget-friendly option, tools like Gua Sha or an ice roller might be ideal. For more advanced treatment, investing in an LED mask or a multi-function device could provide additional benefits. Always ensure that the product fits your lifestyle and comfort level.
I am very stressed right now. I don't want to list all my issues and trauma dump in here but things are hard right now for me.
I have a lot of stress and it's translating into a sore and sluggish body full of tension. I get a lot of tension headaches and migraine too. There is a lot of pressure in my head.
I hope to incorporate regular massage in my life. As in going to a massage therapist regularly.
But I am looking for guidance for at home facial massage. I have a scalp massager and that feels good but it is loud. I am looking for something more for the face and forehead. Does anyone have any recommendations for tools for massage.
I bought a facial roller that vibrates late week and it has the double balls but I don't feel like it's working for me in relation to massage. I do have a jade roller that is cooling. I like this options but it's not really hitting it for me. I think I need something more but I don't know what.
Some stuff I was looking at includes:
There are just so many different tools and gadgets I don't know what to get.
I was looking at an eye mask massager but that looks very big and apparently it can be noisy too. I am tempted by one of these.
not a facial device, but how about an acupressure mat to relax your body? I don't have one myself, but I'm considering buying one as I have heard good things
I swear I'm not a shill 😆 I bought this scalp massager in a moment of desperation from TMJ pain relief and it's actually amazing. Literally typed in TMJ pain relief and it came up. The comments said they used it on their face so I figured it was worth a shot.
It comes with a 2nd set of rounded attachments that work better for massaging. I use a gua sha and an acupuncture pen to massage my face but this works so much better. Those never felt deep enough. I honestly didn't realize how much tension was in my face until I used this. My husband also likes it for migraines.
Thought I'd pass it along to fellow sufferers!
Thanks for sharing. Never thought about using it on my face or neck. (I bought one a year or two ago to use on my head to try to combat hair thinning, but returned it because it tangled my hair and I couldn’t afford to lose any more hair! I have curly hair. Can’t say if it would do this to someone with different type of hair.)
It hurts so good I can't stop using it 😆
I will definitely try it!
I’ve been looking at these. Does it not tangle up your hair?
I was worried about that too which is partly I chose this particular one. Other scalp massagers had more comments about ripping hair out. The comments on this one said it might catch a stray but was easy to pull out which is also my experience.
I haven't used it on my hair much but when I do I hold my hair flat if that makes sense. I personally think if you aren't paying attention it has the potential to tangle. I'm mainly using it on my face and neck. Anytime I use it near hair I hold my hair back because I'm afraid to risk it 😆
Thanks OP, I've started to suffer from TMJ which is a result of a neck and shoulder injury so this checks boxes I wasn't even considering when I started looking for a scalp massager
Hope it helps! I still use mine all the time.
Has anyone used this facial massager ? Please share reviews if you have. It’s supposed to help with wrinkles, tightening skin and double chin.

Your hand is the best massager
LED mask (either from Omnilux or CurrentBody) as these have studies to prove the effectiveness. Omnilux is a lot softer, more pliable and lighter to wear Vs CurrentBody which is a bit heavier and rigid.
Also Magnitone FaceRocket which is EMS, Radiofrequency, Cryotherapy and LED all in one. Obsessed with the EMS and RF functions. I also bought one for my mum - she swears by it and giftrd one for her friend who had some sagging due to nerve damage around her eye. It has helped her tone that side of the face to make the drooping less obvious.
All of the above but right now I’m obsessed with my Theraface depuffing wand. I have pretty much everything there is but this is my GOAT.

Botox
I love face rollers and Gua sha. I have an ice face roller I love to do in the mornings, especially in the summer. The Gua sha is a great drainage tool that has even helped with sinus pressure.
A couple months ago I was on the fence about doing another round of Botox (I have to pay out of pocket). I didn’t get much relief from it the first time and had a bit of a reaction so I was hesitant, but I’m in a stressful period of my life and my clenching pain is horrible.
I heard from someone else that red light therapy helped them. Since the Omnilux mask is close to what I have to pay for Botox, I decided to give it a try.
I have used it consistently, aiming for everyday and I am shocked but it freaking helps so much. The days that I skip I feel the pain come back, use my mask, and feeling better.
It only takes 10 mins, and I can just lay their vs doing the facial massages or stretches.
TLDR: using the Omnilux led mask everyday has brought my TMJ pain down from a 8 to a 1.
Fantastic! Can you share which one or a link? Def will try. Glad you got relief!
Hello. I have trigeminal neuragia and developed tmj from the procedures I obtained. I will say when I go for acupuncture, the practitioner uses red light...it definitely helps.
Oh wow. Have you noticed an improvement in your skin too?
I am interested in this too
That’s crazy! I def need to look into this!
Thanks sm for sharing this! I’ve been using the Hooga hg24 red lightbulb and it’s a good deal at $40 but sometimes it’s annoying to hold up to my face. Def rec for someone looking for a cheaper option as you can use on neck and shoulders etc.
Some of the comments are gold
The one person that said "so good for enhancing product absorption" made me roll my eyes because you could tell they hadn't actually tried it since many others talk about it vibrating way too much 😬 made me chuckle in any case lol. I don't get any spicy facial massagers on my end! Sad face lol
I like the one who says it's a facial massager in the same way that you and your burnout cousin are just 'going for a walk' during family gatherings. Lol
Haha I was looking at something yesterday that was some sort of massager (it did look really odd for it to secretly be a vibrator, honestly) and one of the reviews was like "it really PENETRATES to the areas I JUST CAN'T REACH MYSELF to give me a DEEP massage that's really SATISFYING".
It's actually probably too powerful to safely use on your undercarriage. Could cause nerve damage. But hey, go for it. Lol.
I got one the other day, "CAPOT Vibrating Massage Ball Portable Handheld Electric Massage Ball with 10 Vibrating Modes, Rechargeable IPX6 Waterproof for Pelvic Floor Muscle Massage at Home or Traveling". It literally says "pelvic floor" right in the title, it's not even pretending. But the weird thing is it looks WAY more like it's actually a baby toy, and the way it's shaped is... odd for it to be for that kind of massage.
I know usually ones like yours, OP, are pretty obvious they're vibrators disguised as regular massagers, but the one I ordered I'm not sure who is actually supposed to use it because it's just shaped so weird. Maybe it's just for... people with bigger hands.
I saw that one! Also it has a $0 tax value!
This doesn't look like a good 'facial massager' or anything else for that matter. I got a 'sore muscle massager' that won't help sore muscles unless we're talking about one really specific 'muscle' but it's better than this freakin thing for that purpose. That hard plastic torture device end with the artificial red light is odd. I like all the people who pretended not to know what they were ordering. Like sure Joanne, you had no idea this was a vibrator 🙄
Also any good oil/ moisturiser that a combination skin (towards oily) person can use to do the face massage
Ive done it for years for a jaw issue and for some assymetry formed during chemo. Facial massages that work for depuffing work, simply by draining your sinuses and lymph nodes. Massages that target face fat do not work. Instead, find face massages that target muscles. You want to work the muscles in your face and neck and shoulders. It will take months and years to see physical changes but it does work so long as you keep at it.
Is that why I see sewing videos of people rubbing their face in a straight line lol
Hey warrior! Sure, will keep that in mind. Thanks 😊 And I hope you are healthy and hearty now
I have done massage on jaw area by vibrating jade roller, it worked good. But I couldn’t keep up for more than 3months, it was too much of work😂 On other face part I immediately got pimples because massage from hard stones seems abrasive
Yea, it does lead to acne for some
It's just for relaxation . No difference it will make to obtain chiseled shape jaw or tightening of face. As face muscle are thin it can sometime damage our facial tissue so just go light on massage
I have a skin if I do massaging or put pressure on my face,I get pimples.
Face massage is great for lymphatic drainage but don’t expect it to give you chiseled jaw and cheekbones - that depends on your genetics and the amount of buccal fat present.
I used to have high cheekbones and sharp jaw line but whatever weight I gain, straight away goes to my face 😣
Exact opposite for me. Hit the gym for two days straight and my face ends up looking like a skull. Trust me that ain't nice too.
I feel you. My jaw line is non existent now + double cheek.
Sometime I feel like there are some who don’t need skin care and there are some like me jinko hawa ka jhonka bhi pimple de deta hai
Ah, yes... this should pair perfectly with my Foreo.
I’m going to be sharing a room with somebody for 4 weeks as a part of my new job training. I have the FOREO Luna mini and I feel like I need to introduce my roommate to it. “It’s not what you think it is, it’s my face brush.”
I have a dainty electric face razor. It’s pink and gently curved and slim, and whenever I emerge from the bathroom with it — after five minutes’ worth of noticeable buzzing — I always want to shout “IT’S JUST A RAZOR” to my ultra-conservative mother-in-law (who literally forbade her daughter from attending her own bachelorette party when she found out one of the hosts had bought phallic candy for it).

do face massages work if you're consistent? or are they just bs?? I recently noticed I look really different than what I looked like last year and in a bad way. my face has gotten puffy and asymmetric and my eyes have gotten way too close to my eyebrows and me having long face is already a disadvantage. my lips have shrunk too and my jawline seems to not even show. everyday I look in thr mirror and csnt recognise this sudden change in myself. can someone please help?
Yes it does.for me it does like magic. I started 1 years ago and it helped me in face thinning and be in proper shape.
What routine and tools do you use?
Just apply good amount of moisturizer on your face, neck and hand. Like approx 3 pumps. And then just massage and do face exercises with your fingers itself. You can even try gua sha. You can get hundreds of face exercises ideas from Google or youtube.
Work for what?
slimming my face, making my jawline visible from the front, reducing the appearance of chubby cheeks/sagging near the jawline
Yes they do but you have to be consistent
I’ve just got onto the trend of LED masks but only because there is heaps of scientific evidence on how they work, but also looking into others to help slow down aging.
The microcurrent devices really do lift your face- I have a few now, but my favourite combines infra-red light, rf and electrical muscle stimulation. You just apply your serum, or basic contact gel, and then run it over your face slowly. The eyebrows I find lift really well- you can absolutely see the difference when you’ve treated one side of the face to the other.
The other gadget that I like but don’t use enough, is the Rio 60 second facelift. As we age, the muscles in the face get lazy, as they do anywhere else in the body. Again, it’s EMS, but it really gives your face a good workout and wakes everything up.
The device that I linked to, I’d say it’s gentler than the Rio facelift device, so yes- it gives your face a bit of a boost in the morning, stimulates the circulation and energises the skin- but it’s more like a maintenance device that you’d use on a regular basis. It’s hard to quantify really, but I think there are videos on YouTube of people who’ve used similar devices over time to illustrate their ‘before’ and ‘after’.
The Rio 60-second facelift is more intense, and I’d say that leads to more permanent improvement because you’re strengthening and building up the facial muscles with every use. You can really feel it in terms of toning the neck muscles, and lifting the cheeks etc. It’s just more cumbersome to use, IMO. It’s 60 seconds per area- so for faradic toning of the complete face, you’re looking at: 2x forehead & brow; 2x under eye; 2x cheeks; 2x nasolabial; 1x upper lip; 1x lower lip; 2x chin; 3x neck; 2x behind ear. About half an hour, all in all. If you look at the reviews on Amazon, I seem to remember there were some impressive before/after pics. It does work- but sometimes it’s hard to fit everything in, or you just can’t be bothered!
How long / often do you use it and how many months have you been using it? I ask because I have one and sadly haven’t seen any results...yet. Wondering if I should ramp up usages
Anything water-based that will conduct electricity should do it. If I’m purely focused on doing a facial, I’ll use a collagen gel. But otherwise I’ll just do my routine, apply my serum and use that as a base. I alternate between a lot of different products at the moment, so there’s no hard or fast rules- as long as it provides slip and conducts the current, it works!
Gua sha!
Does anyone know if you can use this if tret is part of your routine?
Yep. Use tret at night and the mask in the morning. If you want to do both at night, use the mask first on cleansed skin, and then use your tret. They do not recommend red light therapy immediately following tret.
This totally depends. Sometimes I use it everyday sometimes twice a week. In the beginning it’s best to use it everyday for 8 weeks. I always do 20-30min. Depends on how much time and patience I have that day 😂 You can apply your normal skincare products except sunscreen. Apparently sunscreen also blocks led rays…didn’t know that either 😂
Can you drop a link? I've been curious about red light therapy but I'm on a budget.
My own body + gravity: massaging my head upside down 7 days a month and having all that blood flow to the face has done more for my complexion than most creams tbh
Thanks to you I am over $400 poorer but can't wait for my Omnilux!! I heard people RAVE about light therapy but the thought of having to drive to a clinic or whatever 2 or 3 times a week for a couple of months really turned me off.
Absolutely love my LED red light face mask! It has been the only thing to keep my hormonal acne at bay.
Got it for Christmas and have been using it for 20 mins at a time 4-5 days per week ever since.
