TL;DR
Sensitive Skin Solutions
For individuals with extremely sensitive skin, such as those suffering from eczema or irritation due to allergies, Kleenex tissues with added lotion can provide relief by minimizing friction and irritation. Additionally, applying a gentle moisturizer like sweet almond oil infused with calendula throughout the day can help soothe irritated skin [1:1]. Another alternative is switching to cotton handkerchiefs, which are reusable and gentler on the skin compared to disposable tissues
[1:2].
Lint-Free Options
If you're looking for facial tissues that don't leave lint behind, microfiber face towels are highly recommended. They are soft, absorbent, and environmentally friendly. Using separate towels exclusively for facial use and laundering them with mild detergents can maintain hygiene while avoiding lint issues [2:1]. Muslin cloths are another option, known for being truly lint-free and soft if you opt for higher-quality versions
[2:3].
Reusable Alternatives
Some users prefer using old cotton t-shirts or cloth napkins as facial tissues. These options reduce waste, save money, and can be sanitized easily [2:5]. Reusable silicon sheet mask holders were also mentioned as a way to keep masks in place and enhance their effectiveness
[4:9].
Additional Recommendations
For those concerned about germs during cold and flu season, using disposable tissues may be preferable to prevent spreading illness [3]. However, when dealing with non-contagious conditions like seasonal allergies, reusable options such as handkerchiefs or cloth towels can be used safely
[3:6]. It's important to wash reusable items thoroughly after use to ensure cleanliness and hygiene
[3:8].
My nose gets very irritated when my seasonal allergies are acting up, which is now happening only a few days of a month since I’m finishing up allergy shots. However, I have eczema and very sensitive skin, so I’m still getting irritation from the basic Kleeenx I’m buying. I’m located in the US, but I’m sure I can find foreign brands on Amazon if that’s a good option.
I switched to cotton handkerchiefs rather than disposable tissues during the early phases of the pandemic, and it's made a world of difference.
I think I’ll try this. It feels like an antiquated concept, but I don’t imagine it’s a health risk as long as I use a laundry sanitizer, don’t share them, and just keep them in my apartment.
I use the Kleenex with added lotion and if the need for tissues is more than a day I apply some kind of gentle moisturiser to the outside of my nose and just inside the nostrils throughout the day to keep it from getting super irritated. My current moisturising choice has been sweet almond oil infused with calendula. I get it from a reputable, certified aroma therapist. (None of them young living wackos)
Seeing others drag MLMs (AKA pyramid schemes) keeps me young.
Hey everyone, I’m trying to find a facial tissue that doesn’t fluff or leave lint behind, so I can gently dry my face after washing and before applying skincare products.
What do you use or recommend? Looking for something soft, absorbent, and truly lint-free.
Thanks in advance!
Why not use paper towels?
I suggest this, they're used on tattoos as they're being done so they're definitely safe for the face. You can like, wipe the table or something afterwards if you want to make the most out of it haha.
Muslin cloths are very nice for this in my opinion! They are not absorbent but they are truly lint-free and can be soft if you pay for the more expensive ones.
Old cotton tshirts. Reduces waste, saves you money, gentle on the skin, and ut can be sanitized.
My son has severe acne during his teens and his dermatologist told him to dry his acneic face with separate microfiber towel before applying his skincare and prescription topicals.
I bought him 20 good quality microfiber face towels and he used 2 towels per day and launder it once a week during laundry day. Laundry load exclusively for his face towels. Way better than disposable facial tissues and more environmentally friendly. As for detergents, I got him to use mild, fragrance free detergents + small amounts of oxyclean to help kill acne bacterias. Now, his acne improved by leaps and bounds though he still has couple spots here and there from time to time being acne-prone combo skin.
These are a little gentler on the skin than the microfiber, but same concept that I do too!
That's awesome! Cheers for your son!
Trust me on this one!!! You can not beat these! I’ve been using them for 5 years and they’re still in perfect condition. They’re so gentle, they don’t pill and they’re sustainable! I wash mine in lingerie bag in the wash with gentle detergent and reuse them!
I will use cloth napkins, handkerchiefs, and towels as much as possible.
But I still will use Kleenex (facial tissues) and paper towels too. I've worked in healthcare (as auxiliary staff) and do worry about germs.
If I KNOW I'm sick, I use the disposable versions during cold and flu season if I hit at being sick. Because I throw them away, and hopefully throw away the germs.
If I know it's just seasonal allergies, or a runny nose from winter cold weather, I still use a handkerchief. Or normal towels to clean.
Anyone else like this?
Are you talking about dish towels or towels you use to dry off after a shower? I'm a curious European and I've never heard of disposable towels.
Dish towels. Normally they’re more for wiping surfaces and hands
Oh right, we have paper towels here too. But we use them less excessively at home. Do you completely switch out your home dish towels for paper towels when you're sick?
I live in a home with two other people. We normally use cloth towels for drying dishes, counters, cleaning up Etc.
We tend to switch to paper towels if one person in the house is sick. To help reduce germs. So that no one shares their germs with someone else.
That's interesting!
In my household the sick person is just extra careful about washing their hands often (especially when working in the kitchen) and tries to stay out of the kitchen. As long as the hands are clean the cloth towels stay clean too but I change them more often when someone is sick (about once a day) just to be sure.
So far it has worked every single time and only the one person was sick. I've lived with my family of 5 and cooked for them all while I was sick, my mom did the same. Never got anyone else sick while doing that
Now I just live with my boyfriend and we kiss while being sick so either the immune system can fight it off or we both get sick. Usually I don't get sick when he is but his immune system isn't as strong and he does often get sick shortly after I was sick.
Why don't you just boil them? Hospitals do not use single use sheets and towels. :)
Because I don't have that availability to me. I use paper disposable products when I'm sick because it is what is available to me.
In the healthcare facilities I worked, they only washed and dried laundry. I've never seen it boiled. It might be used in other places, but it's not common in my area.
Then how do you wash your clothes if you have no availability to water and a washing machine? How do you cook if you have no stove or pans? You haven't seen anyone wash in 90 C?
Yup this makes sense. When you're ill I'd suggest washing your resueable items so that they're clean once you're well again
Yes. In hot water with lots of soap and long drying times. Only time I wash laundry like that. Normally I'll do short cold wash and only partially dry.
Touch of chlorine bleach.
Yes, the old "carrying a cold in your pockets" :)
I want like them but it just seems like all the ones I've tried are so small and I don't have a big face. They over all just don't fit not around the eyes or mouth.
I like tonymoly and facetory masks. They help my skin to stay hydrated or have an emergency pick me up before heavy makeup application.
Has anyone tried those reusable silicon sheet mask holders? They basically slip over your sheet mask to keep it in place. Total game changer.
Lindo Silimask - Reusable Anti-Wrinkle Silicone Face Mask Holder for Sheet Masks, Moisturizing Facial Mask Cover, Prevent Evaporation, Beauty Face Tool, Travel Pouch Included, 2 Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084T4PYNC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5RSZZS4F2RXBD8T2XQV0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I'm obsessed with using one of these now with my sheet masks. I grabbed one on Yesstyle last summer, and ever since I've been using it all the time. Idk how I lived without one lol it allows me to keep sheet masks on for hours if I want. It keeps the masks nice and moist so they dont dry out quickly and I never have to worry about the mask falling off anymore. Whenever I wear it my mom says I look like Hannibal from Silence of the Lambs LOL - I love scaring her when I use it at night.
I don’t know how I lived without one either! And I also love how they make you look like Hannibal Lechter.
I love sheet masks! My favorite are by Pūrlisse and The Crème Shop.
Here are some suggestions:
Warm your mask up in a bowl of hot water. I don’t like the cold wet mask experience so I warm my masks up by hot water or body heat. A warm face mask makes a massive difference for me (sensory wise), feels cozy, is so relaxing, and helps set me up for bed time.
I cut my masks! My face is oval so some sheet masks don’t sit right. I use clean scissors that I’ve wiped with an alcohol wipe. I put on the face mask and then snip by the nose, the piece above my lip, and around the eye or lip if I need more room. Just enough so it sits flat and comfortable. Some masks I cut a few slits at the bottom edge so the mask will sit better. Cutting my face masks has made the biggest difference for me. I can’t handle wearing a face mask if it’s uncomfortable and blocking my eye or too close to the corners of my mouth, etc.
Hopefully these two things will help you. Once I started warming and cutting my masks I enjoyed the experience more and it motivated me to use them more.
Question for you? Do you like liquid sheet masks? Like clay masks, mud masks, or basically any mask that comes in a tube or tub? What about peeling masks?
I like wash off ones the best most peel masks I've used hurt taking them off but I've even used the dr brandt magnetic one it's nice and powder one you mix with water from herbivore
Agree, peel masks are ouchy. I’ve always wanted to try a magnetic one!
Best face masks I ever used, are the Tula Skincare Star bright Nourishing & Brightening cosmic-hydrogel mask. It fits your face so nicely. It’s the absolute best. It comes in 2 pieces so you form it to fit your face perfectly! They are gel like so they stick to your face without moving. Beats anything I’ve ever tried and believe me , I’ve tried them all ! They are my absolute holy grail🙌 🏼
RUN, don’t walk, to get these, I found masks sort of unbearable before them. Not only do they keep them in place from sliding but they also press them onto your skin to be more effective.
I love them and have a similar problem with ill fit, so I will snip them in two pieces, right under the nose.
My people!
I sent them to you in a photo in messages! They stick to your face, I wear them over night when I wake up they are still in place. They are absolutely amazing !! And results show after one use
What are the best face hygiene article in your opinion which is a must have for really clean skin
genes
Yes! And if you want “clean” you actually only need to wash it with any kind of soap. If you’re wanting a skincare routine it’s different… but pure hygiene/cleanliness, there is no real secret…
A good cleanser. Don’t overcomplicate things
Almond oil, a small soft brush, a good soap bar.
If it had to be one product then I’d probably use natural oil as it can be used for cleaning and moisturizing.
I made my own oil blend and mixing it into my moisturizer has done wonders for my dry and oily skin. It’s never dry again and a lot less oily. So in the end the oil makes my skin feel less greasy and dirty and the end of the day too.
Aight -- I've been low-key kinda hyped for wearing masks during the whole epidemic and have started collecting them to accessorize with. To that point, I did my best to spin up a list (AKA spreadsheet) of brands that I've found that have some cool designs going on, as well as to list any causes (AFAIK) that they might be donating to/supporting.
All of this is still a work in progress, so I'm just slowly adding stuff as I go.
DISCLAIMER -- I am NOT affiliated with any of the businesses, companies, or brands listed. They're just selling some masks I thought were cool that I wanted to share. I am not, and have no intention of, profiting from this in any way.
Additionally -- not all of these masks are up to CDC standards/specs or classified as N95. Some are and/or have filter pockets though, and I might try to specifically flag those ones if I get the chance.
TL;DR - I tried my best to create a list of masks from a lot of "mainstream" fashion labels. Link.
Please let me know if y'all have any comments or suggestions!
P.S.: I really hope this is in line with community guidelines mods plz be merciful.
Edit: Dang y'all -- it's so dope to see all the cordial discussions going on in the comments. Thanks for recommending masks and informing each other on other options and suggestions!! Coupla updates:
There have been a TON of suggestions -- I stopped at about 100 brands last night, and have about 100 more that I still plan on adding to the main list. Brands I plan on adding can be found in the "pending" tab of the spreadsheet.
I'm trying to make sure that I strikethrough any items I'm finding that are "dead" (i.e.: Outdoor Voices), so this will not include items that are currently sold out and might come back, or items that have pre-orders and notifications available.
The masks on this list aren't necessarily gonna be objectively better than any others AFAIK -- they're all just brands I found that I thought MFA (or anyone for that matter) might like.
I haven't included eBay, Etsy, or FB Marketplace shops because that could become insanely overwhelming really quickly -- and there has been some self-promotion that I'm trying to avoid.
To the non-US Redditors -- if there are any options specific to the EU that are suggested to me, I'll try to throw them up on a separate tab as time allows. I'm located in the US of A, so that was my primary focus.
I'm still not affiliated with any of these brands -- I just wanna help people who like cool stuff cop cool stuff, and maybe direct people to giving towards causes they like in the process as well.
Please keep the discussions ongoing y'all -- it's so dope to see all the support and care in the sub going on!!
Edit II: Thanks for the continued input and suggestions y'all -- as of this edit, I think we've got about 150+ masks on the list. Several "quality of life" updates to the list:
Edit III: List is still going strong and we've got about 150+ brands at the moment, with about 100+ on the way. I'm still fleshing everything else out, but since this has gained a lot more traction and people have been asking about health concerns and CDC/WHO standards, I'm slowly also trying to detail and make more information readily consolidated/available. I also might try to start doing/posting reviews on masks based on availability and (personal funds).
Edit IV: I've had some brands and users reaching out to me to show support, so I'm working to start up a blog and post information, updates, etc. regarding masks (and hopefully even COVID19 info) because people have been asking for recommendations and this has been useful in not only (hopefully) raising awareness for others, but in educating myself and learning more and more about masks, COVID, and current medical standards.
I'm still not a healthcare/medical professional, nor am I claiming to be, and this is in no way being done for profit or marketing -- it's just something that progressively spiraled out of a hobby of mine into a legitimate avenue for discussions and education, and I have no formal affiliations or stakes in any of the brands that I've listed/detailed. Starting off with an Instagram for now while still putting together a blog/website (both currently under construction), but it should just serve to act as a more formal medium for what I'm doing here and on the spreadsheet but with more write-ups, details, and even fit pics for different masks.
Please keep in mind: I'm a "one man shop" and this list may or may not have been made on a whim because I wanted to keep a running list of brands that I liked. So please keep the suggestions coming and I'll do my best to update/course correct accordingly. If you or someone you know personally owns/runs a brand, please PM me and I'll try to include it (once again: I am not including Etsy/eBay/FB/etc. shops because that's a slippery slope and harder to "track").
This is still an ongoing WIP, so thanks for the continued support and feedback! Please also make sure to checkout/show some love to some of the other lists that are out there:
Please reference the following links for information/details regarding health and safety standards with respect to buying, wearing, and even making masks:
My original list can still be found here.
Instagram (WIP) can be found here. -- UNDER CONSTRUCTION
Please feel free to DM me with any questions/inquiries -- thanks y'all!
Just went through the list hoping for some finds. The Under Armor mask looks awesome but it's pre-order for 5 weeks out at $30
Honestly I didn't see anything on this list that compared to the one I got from MaskTopia
And I bought it when there was just black and 2 sizes. Now they have 3 sizes, dozens of colors and even some graphics.
Love the strap behind the head and for me an adjustable nose bridge is a deal breaker to prevent glasses from fogging.
Just purchased three from MaskTopia, one for me and a pair for the kids as we get ready for school to start back up. Excellent price and looks like a decent product. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Damn, I agree. My dumbass spent $150 buying multiple masks, trying to find the right fit, and only 5 of the masks fit me comfortably. The masks are from hot topic, only cotton, no nose wire, and just loop around the ears, and the masks cost me $10 each.
This mask is only $14.99? That is a steal with its features, compared to all the masks I saw listed, and the masks I had purchased.
Thanks for the link! Great recommendation.
Pic of the strap at the back for MaskTopia masks. I prefer it because it doesent loop around your ear.
I have 6 in chambray. Around the head (elastic band, not self-tie) but triple layer (incl. removable filter), nose wire and fits securely under the chin. I'm 5'6" w/beard and size Small fits perfectly; in terms of dimensions, similar to Railcar Fine Goods' in size M/L (which fits a little looser than Proper Cloth's). They ship on schedule or even earlier. There's a very meaningful multi-buy discount, strongly consider buying at least a 3-pack.
Edit1: Also, Naked & Famous (via Tate & Yoko)
Edit2: Styleforum's list of masks vendors
Edit3: Standard & Strange. Pricey but actually look pretty good. lmao, even got a fix for denim heads
Edit4: People, please wash after a day's use. Diluted detergent in a bowl will suffice.
Edit5: Banana Republic masks should arrive this week, I can update with a brief review.
Thirded. I like my Proper Cloth masks. I've got a couple. They fit well, don't slip down when talking, and I much prefer the elastic bands behind the head/neck as opposed to ear loops.
Hopefully they'll sell the filter separately at some point.
Seconded proper cloth. Got one as soon as they started making them and thinking about ordering a second now that they've branched out designs. So comfortable to wear and looks nice, makes me want to actually keep on.
When I first got them, I realized this would likely be my preferred mask and ordered more. It seems like masks are going to be necessary even after a vaccine is developed (however many months from now), made sense to have enough to last through the week.
Outdoor Research makes a face mask. It's a bit expensive but feels nice and comes with 3 filters. Only one size but adjustable ear loops and a nose wire. I've enjoyed it in limited wear so far, putting it through its first big test at work tomorrow. I'll report back if it ends up being uncomfortable.
I don’t have a masktopia mask, but I have one very similar without the ear strap. I love it (and the metal nose bridge), but the ear strap is a game changer because without it it slides down.
I don’t think it looks dorky. I don’t think any mask that matches your outfit and feels comfortable can look dorky. The Velcro is nice because you can just pull the mask under your chin without having to pocket it
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for putting it together. Probably going to order a Topo designs mask.
They are the best I've found. The fabric is stiff enough to stay off your face without being droopy. Nosepiece is solid.
Get Well Tissues is supposed to be made from Virgin Bamboo and excellent weapon used against Chronic Hay Fever.
You're the reason we exist!!!!
go advertise your weird shit somewhere else
I hope you Get Well
NOBODY FUCKING CARES, SPAMMER
Hi there, I'm new to this sub but it's been great so far. I've been lucky enough to go my whole life without worrying about my skin (thanks genetics, I guess?) but as a young adult, I've recently decided to atleast try and learn about makeup/skincare. I had a wonderful girl at Sephora give me a relaxing facial yesterday and I ended up walking away with FRESH products. I realized from reading this sub that there is a LOT that I don't know or ever realized was important. So with that, I'm thinking maybe I need a towel that is gentler for my face? I ordered a satin pillow case to help with my curly hair which apparently is also good for face but now I realize that my towels are coarse and probably irritate my skin.
TL;DR, I'm a skincare newbie looking for recommendations for a face towel(brand?) for sort-of sensitive skin. Thanks!
I use the Sinland microfiber facial cloths (Amazon). I’ve heard good things about Muslin face cloths as well.
Thank you for the recommendation! Did you find a difference when you switched to microfiber cloths for your face?
I for sure see a difference but It’s hard to tell if it’s related to the new cloth bc I changed a bunch of habits at once (silk pillow case, patting face to dry instead of rubbing, stopped washing my face in the scalding hot shower, etc). It definitely “feels” much better on my skin using the microfiber cloth than a regular wash cloth.
Bamboo “microfibre” cloths are super soft.
Thank you! I'm seeing a lot of different brands on amazon.ca right now and the reviews are sort of split (with the exception of the Sinland Microfiber facial cloth that has a nearly perfect rating from consumers).
I switched all my towels to bamboo, that S*** is the bomb! The softest towels ever. I feel like I am in a spa after my shower.
you could get any brand of microfiber and be fine. They are just so absorbent that the pat dry actually works nice and it feels nice on your skin. They shouldn't cost to much ether, i got 2 6-packs for ~$10.
I actually went and ordered the Sinland Microfiber Facial Cleaning Cloths for $17CAD, which isn't so bad for a 6 pack. I'm excited to try them out :) Thanks!
FYI satin is not the best for hair and/or skin. It’s a synthetic fibre, basically imitation silk.
Read the Slip Silk FAQS for more info.
Isn’t satin a weave pattern rather than material?
In my family we’ve always used the word Kleenex, no matter the brand. But now that Kleenex is going to be discontinued in Canada, I feel a little weird about it. If you also say “Kleenex”, are you going to continue using it even after Kleenex leaves Canada, or are you going try to switch your vocabulary to the more generic “tissue”?
Yes, but don’t always buy Kleenex brand tissues
It's not called a Kleenex unless it comes from the Kleenex region of France, otherwise it's just a facial tissue.
Sparkling facial tissue.
Heck No! Too expensive to buy brand name tissues. Except, in the 80’s, when you could buy a package for 50 cents or less!
....but when i do, its kleenex.
Kleenex was already overpriced, I'm not going to be mad at Irving for providing some competition in the facial tissue market. We have enough monopolies as it is.
Puffs were my absolute favourite. I guess I’ll have to stock up on Kleenex.
Kleenex is being discontinued in Canada?!?
Is this why my workplace switched to some shitty no name brand ones? One of the few good things we had at work was quality tissue.
You aren't blowing your nose with toilet paper already? I don't have money for toilet paper, paper towels AND Kleenex. Also those boxes take up too much real estate in my 400 sq ft condo.
I’m thinking that the blame lies with Kirkland brand facial tissue.
Kleenex had good market share, it simply isn't a profitable category for any company. P&G, Irvong, Kruger, they all are having a tough time in facial tissue.
I need to purify my soul after reading this.
Ayooo wtf , this shi real?
How the fuck am I supposed to write an essay on THAT 😭
Irony of post (tatti sai tatti pochoo)
I ain't gonna degrade my ass using this. It's more expensive and valuable than this price of crap.
yeah I also think so, i changed my mind . It will be better for german Shefard Tommy
My @$$ deserves better🙏
i am deeply sorry for inconvenience.
best facial tissues
Key Considerations for Choosing Facial Tissues:
Softness: Look for tissues that are soft and gentle on the skin, especially if you have sensitive skin or are using them frequently.
Strength: Choose tissues that are strong enough to prevent tearing during use, especially when dealing with wetness.
Ply Count: Tissues come in different ply counts (1-ply, 2-ply, etc.). Higher ply counts (like 2-ply) generally offer more softness and strength.
Moisture Resistance: Some tissues are designed to be more absorbent or have added moisture for comfort, which can be beneficial during colds or allergies.
Hypoallergenic Options: If you have allergies or sensitive skin, consider hypoallergenic tissues that are free from dyes and fragrances.
Packaging: Consider the packaging style (box, pocket packs) based on your needs—whether for home use or on-the-go.
Recommendations:
Puffs Plus Lotion: Known for their softness and added lotion, these tissues are great for preventing irritation during colds or allergies.
Kleenex Ultra Soft: Offers a luxurious feel with a good balance of softness and strength, making them a popular choice for everyday use.
Scotties Facial Tissues: A budget-friendly option that provides decent softness and strength, often available in larger quantities.
Seventh Generation Facial Tissues: If you're looking for an eco-friendly option, these tissues are made from recycled paper and are hypoallergenic.
Choosing the right facial tissue depends on your personal preferences and specific needs, such as sensitivity or environmental concerns.
