TL;DR
Bounty
Bounty paper towels are widely regarded as one of the best options available. Users appreciate their superior absorbency and durability, which allows them to be used longer than other brands [5]. A Marine noted that Bounty lasts longer during deep cleaning sessions, making it worth the extra cost
[5:1]. Many users have fond memories of family members who swore by Bounty, indicating its long-standing reputation
[5:3].
Viva
Viva paper towels receive high praise for their softness and quality. Some users consider them superior to Bounty due to their texture [5:2]. However, there are some criticisms regarding a peculiar odor and the inconvenience of peeling off sheets when mounted under cabinets
[5:5]
[5:7]. Additionally, Viva may not perform well on glass surfaces, leaving streaks and specks
[5:10].
Kirkland (Costco)
Kirkland paper towels from Costco are frequently mentioned as a reliable and cost-effective alternative to more expensive brands. They are favored for their balance of quality and affordability [1:2]
[5:3]. While not as highly rated as Bounty or Viva, they offer good value, especially for families looking to save money without sacrificing too much on performance.
Alternative Options
Some users prefer reusable options like shop rags or blue shop towels, which can be washed and reused multiple times [5:11]
[5:12]. These alternatives are considered more economical and environmentally friendly compared to disposable paper towels. Additionally, microfiber or terry cloths are recommended for cleaning glass surfaces, as they do not leave residue like paper towels
[5:9].
MOTHA FUCKIN’ VIVA BITCH. But I don’t buy it ever because it’s too expensive.
Kirkland brand from Costco is the main squeeze.
I just use a regular towel
The cheapest.
brawny! it’s pretty sturdy
Personally, I use reusable paper towels. You just wash them.
Just ran out of both and it seems that quality has gone down again since end of last year (stocked up before that). The brands I purchased no longer seem to be good. Whatever I look a seems to have complaints.
Used to get bounty paper towels, it seems like the quality has gone down and the prices have gone up. I used them in produce containers to keep veggies and salad dry so they last longer, and sometimes for cleaning up the grosser messes. Mostly use rags though.
I used to get kirkland TP when I had a costco membership. I switched to another brand from a local drugstore, which I stopped using after getting utis out of the blue and had trouble getting rid of them till i switched. Later I got Target Up & UP and that was ok for a bit, till the last batch, which has been pretty rough.
We live in a rental that has a tankless toilet, doesn't seem like anything will work with it. I heard that travel bidets aren't that great either, but I will try one and see if I can at least reduce toilet paper.
Tp- cottonelle or charmin - both last us longer (we use less) than cheaper brands - but scotts does better if you have old plumbing
Paper towels- Viva (only the soft ones that are “select a size” style - they last me a long time…I can only find them in the large packs and one large pack will last our family 6months)- so about a roll/month.
Charmin and Costco are a nightmare on old plumbing in my experience, though I do agree they last longer.
Scots, while good for plumbing, is the worst thing I’ve ever bought.
Angel soft is a good balance for me as it doesn’t clog toilets or feel like sandpaper. Middle price point too.
Agree that Angel soft is a compromise but not a frugal one for us as we end up using way too much of it.
I subscribe to Who Gives a Crap for toilet paper - ethical, sustainable, and affordable.
Me too. I get the bamboo and it's the best I've ever used. Ask me anything!
Yes! I've tried both (the recycled paper and the bamboo) and can honestly say both are as good as the other. And they're just a great company. If people don't have the space to store all the rolls at once it's the easiest thing in the world to go halvsies with a neighbor, friend, or family member.
I do the same. If we are still full on to when the next box comes in, I gift it to my in laws or friends. Honestly the rolls last forever.
And a single wrapped roll makes a great gag gift.
Oh, and the wrap can work great for gift wrapping small items
I decided to stop taking shits so I no longer buy toilet paper. Good financial decision!
I decided to stop eating so I stop taking shits. BOGO!
I thought the same thing when it came to toilet paper lol but maybe OP is thinking bidet users?
Walmart's Great Value holds up to its name.
For wiping?

Charmin Ultra Soft. Not quite as strong as Charmin Ultra Strong, but softer with better absorption.
Cottonelle
Charmin Ultra Strong. Not Basic and not Ultra Soft. You want the one in the red packaging.
I guess if you want particles of toilet paper stuck to your ass! Go for it. That’s why I find the commercial so funny cuz their acting like their product doesn’t do exactly that
Agreed I can’t stand thick soft fluffy TP. Original Scott in the paper wrapper for me!
Charmin blue package. How hard are you wiping your ass to get particles of Charmin in your butt?!
Kleenex Clean Ripple. And a bidet.
A bidet and TP made from bamboo. For me, I care more about my environmental impact than TP cushion. That being said, I’ve chosen what luxuries are worth my impact vs not, TP was an easy area for me to “give up”.
For a second when I read “TP made from bamboo” I just pictured a literal bamboo shoot growing next to your toilet used in a scratching post type way.
For real, way to be environmentally conscious :)
I’m a Marine, and each week we have field day, which is a deep clean of our rooms. That includes dust off of all surfaces to the point that if they wipe it with their finger, it will be completely clean. So that involves Lysol spray and wiping everything down. I’ve tried using the budget brands, and I notice I’ll go through a lot more than I do with bounty. Bounty will absorb and stay useable way longer than others. So my cleaning tip, don’t be frugal when it comes to paper towels, it’s worth the extra few bucks.
Viva paper towels are FAR superior to bounty. Please don’t downvote if you’ve never tried them—you seriously don’t know what you’re missing.
My grandmother the clean freak loved Bounty Paper towels so much that we buried her with a roll. She could go through a roll a day in the 80s & 90s.
(Though for my money Costco's own Kirkland brand is right up there with it. Don't tell my mother I'm disloyal)
I can remember my grandmother saying many times, "BOUNTY is the ONLY paper towel."
Anyone tried Viva paper towels? They’re the closest second to bounty for me, the texture is different
Viva is my soulmate paper towel.
I love Viva in-use, but I stopped buying it because the way it’s spun on the roll the top sheet has to be “peeled” off the layer underneath. With our under-cabinet mounted PT holder, it makes for extremely inconvenient one-handed use when cooking if my other hand is covered in raw meat mess or similar.
The bounty ones hang with a space between the sheet I’m grabbing and the layer underneath.
I LOVE viva - way more than any other brand. I also buy sparkle and ive got a good go with those as well. The softer viva one's are also work for kleenex and TP in a pinch.
Viva paper towels are fine, but they have this weird odor to them that I can’t stand!
Nooooooo they leave little paper towel flecks on literally everything! And they can't clean glass for shit. I clean houses as a side job and I tried out Viva paper towels for exactly ONE house and never again. It took me twice as long because I kept having to go back and clean up the streaks and specks from the paper towels. Don't get me started on the sliding glass door, oh man that was so bad. I ended up running down the street to buy regular ones because I was losing my mind fighting with the Viva towels.
Paper towels are trash for cleaning glass in general compared to microfiber or terry cloths. You can be far more economical and environmentally friendly doing that.
Better yet, get the blue shop towels. You can even rinse them and reuse them until they rip.
My go to for years has been shop rags. 100 for like $20. Wash and reuse them as long as you don't get biohazard or petroleum products on them.
It seems like Charmin used to be the best but lately their stuff feels like sandpaper.
I went to a friend's house the other day and they had the softest toilet paper I've ever seen.. I was too weirdly embarrassed to ask what it was. (oh BTW I shat in your bathroom what kinda tp is that felt like an awkward conversation) I even looked in the bathroom closet and under the sink to see if the rest was laying around.
It felt like silk. wtf was it
Loooooooool ☠️ you’re killing me
My beard. Want some free samples?
my roomie's fingers
Cotton
I've always thought that Angel Soft was the best. It's got the perfect diamond weave texture that doesn't leave a rash on my butt hole area and doesn't feel like sand paper. Super absorbant Angel Soft toilet paper wicks away shit right out of my ass to get my crack back on track. Each 2-ply sheet is made to be perfectly soft and perfectly strong, giving me toilet paper that I can rely on.
Red Charmin

The best around is clearly better than the best in town.
Easily, why be limited to just a town when you’re the best around
All! Please help. What toilet paper are we using that didn't leave gribblies, didn't rip before you've even used it and it's strong yet soft. I thought I found one but it has been discontinued. I am so tried of crappy (pun intended) toilet paper. In the US - so let me know what you use!
Costco brand is the best!
I came here to say this. It’s soft and not abrasive, but still sturdy enough to not fall apart mid-wipe.
Costco is all I buy now , big rolls, full size, soft but holds up and cheap. I’m a single and can buy 2-3 of their big packages a year. Also their paper towels!
This is what I use.
Get a bidet. Terlet paper is for the birds.
See but isn’t it a sensory nightmare to have a wet butt? Or do you end up wiping anyway?
Here's what you do. Go to the thrift store and buy one of those ancient CD rack towers. Put it by your toilet and fill it with washcloths. After you get your bidet hose-down, just blot dry with the washcloth and toss in laundry.
Just dab dry with a couple sheets of tp and make sure you got everything. If not, rinse again and repeat.
Kitchen roll cut in half, no folding multiple pieces together to make usable
Bidet with water temperature control, male/female spray adjustments, and temperature controlled air for drying asses and m/f junk. No tp or towels needed. Better for the environment, hygiene and noses.
I use Scott. My ex’s name, so it’s satisfying in lots of ways.
Ha! Best answer
best paper towels
Key Considerations for Choosing the Best Paper Towels:
Absorbency: Look for paper towels that are highly absorbent. This means they can soak up spills quickly without falling apart.
Strength: Choose towels that are strong enough to handle tough messes without tearing. Two-ply options generally offer better strength.
Size and Sheet Count: Consider the size of the sheets and the total count in a roll. Larger sheets can be more efficient for big spills, while a higher sheet count can provide better value.
Eco-Friendliness: If sustainability is important to you, look for paper towels made from recycled materials or those that are biodegradable.
Cost: Compare the price per sheet to determine the best value. Sometimes, buying in bulk can save money in the long run.
Recommendations:
Bounty Paper Towels: Known for their superior absorbency and strength, Bounty is often considered the gold standard for paper towels. They come in various sizes and counts, making them versatile for different needs.
Scott Essential Paper Towels: A more budget-friendly option, Scott towels are strong and absorbent, offering good value with a higher sheet count per roll.
Seventh Generation Paper Towels: If you're looking for an eco-friendly choice, these towels are made from 100% recycled paper and are free from dyes and fragrances.
Takeaway: For everyday use, Bounty is a top choice for performance, while Scott Essential offers great value. If sustainability is a priority, go for Seventh Generation.
