What Redditors are Saying

Best Fishing Spots in Stardew Valley

TL;DR

  • Ocean: Best for rare and valuable fish, especially in summer and fall [3:2].
  • Mountain Lake: Profitable in spring and offers iridium quality fish [4:1].
  • River: Good for catfish during rainy spring days [3:2].

Ocean Fishing

The ocean is a popular choice for fishing due to the abundance of rare and valuable fish, particularly during the summer and fall seasons. Casting from the left side of the beach or off the pier towards the stone can yield high-quality catches [1:2][3:1]. While some players find that quantity often beats quality at the ocean, it's generally considered one of the most profitable spots [3:3].

Mountain Lake

Fishing at the mountain lake is highly recommended, especially in spring when it provides the most profit per hour. The lake is known for its easy-to-catch iridium quality fish, making it a favorite spot for many players [4:1][4:5]. Additionally, the mountain lake is a good choice in winter if you want to avoid the less valuable ocean fish [3:2].

River Fishing

The river is another lucrative location, particularly on rainy spring days when catfish are available. Fishing near Sam's house, right into the bend in the river, is a recommended spot for catching gold star fish [1:2]. Some players also enjoy fishing near Leah's house due to its proximity to the farm [4:2].

Legendary Fish Locations

For those aiming to catch legendary fish, specific locations and conditions are required. For example, the Angler fish can only be caught in fall at a particular location [5:1]. The Legend fish requires rain in spring, which can sometimes be challenging due to unpredictable weather patterns [5:2].

Personal Preferences and Social Interactions

Some players choose their fishing spots based on personal preferences or social interactions within the game. Fishing with Willy at the docks or interacting with Sebastian at the mountain lake adds a social element to the activity [4:3][4:6]. These choices may not always be the most profitable but can enhance the gameplay experience.

ORIGINAL POST

What would be the most profitable fishing spot per season?

B
Baruch_S · 4 years ago

Three places will all but guarantee gold star fish with a maximum distance cast. In the ocean, cast west off the pier towards that stone. In the river, fish just south and a bit east of Sam’s house, right into the bend in the river. In the mountain pond, go to the furthest east island and fish off the southern tip.

As for which is most profitable for each season, you’d have to check what can be caught in each location in each season depending on the weather. And remember that lingcod absolutely suck.

Fishing near the rock west of the ocean guaranteed me high quality fish.

Inside the lonely stone If u can get ur fishing line inside of it/its area u will always catch a fish of silver quality or better

I've tried again and again to fish on that stone, but the line always falls to one or other side of it.

Is there a trick to it?

I don’t think it has any unique bonuses, but it is an easy to see marker of Good Quality Fish Here. Casting far enough is a matter of leveling up fishing,

1 upvotes on reddit

Isn't it just a matter of casting as far away from walkable areas? That makes the quality better.

Most profitable fishing spot?

Posted by SilverNarifia · in r/StardewValley · 4 years ago

I like to maximize my time by staying in one fishing spot all day and never moving. That raises the question: What is the best fishing spot in the game? I used to think it was the dock (ocean fish), but that's just a blind guess.

What do you think? Are lake fish, river fish, or ocean fish most profitable? What is the best spot to park it and fish until exhaustion? I'm anxious to hear your opinions!

it depends on season/time/weather

in spring, the mountain lake gives the most profit per hour, unless its raining when the river will have catfish which are worth a lot. In summer, the ocean is full of rare and valuable fish, so go there the whole day. the same story with fall go to the ocean. In winter you won't want to see a fishing rod again after glacierfish fishing, but if you really want to fish id go to the lake or river, the winter ocean fish don't have much value

I find the ocean to be best. Fish might be worth more elsewhere, but I catch more in the ocean so quantity beats quality more often than not in my experience.

To spend as much time as possible, fish on your farm if you have the beach or islands farm. On my islands farm game I caught so many fish on the first day I had a rod, I got level 1, 2, and 3 fishing.

I default to ocean fishing, but go the the left side of the beach. I don’t know if it’s shorter than going all the way to the end of the dock but it feels like it, which might mean slightly more fishing time vs. travel time

Where is your favourite fishing spot?

Posted by vampbeauty · in r/StardewValley · 4 years ago

My go to fishing spot is right in front of Willy's door, I love that at 5pm he comes outside and we fish together. I also have a quirk where my fishing game has to be on the left hand of my screen, so wherever I fish I tend to stand on the right.

Where do you guys like to fish? Up by the mountain? The town River? Near Marnie's? Or do you just stay on the farm. Maybe you hate fishing...or you chose that crab pot life.

I'm curious. Let's discuss!

Usually right in front of Leah's house. It's close to the farm. Unless I'm on the riverlands farm then I fish off of the southern dock.

The lake is a good spot to catch iridium quality fish, they are all really easy to catch (although the Sturgeon can be annoying).

Angler is only in Fall, at a very specific location. Normally, it pops up in a few casts if you're in the right area and season.

Mountain Lake. Easy fish and iridium quality with higher skill.

Lonely Stone. Harder to fish than in the lake but usually has higher quality than other places in the Pier.

I'd say the mountain lake for every season because the fish are so easy to catch you can get iridium quality easily. Some of them barely move.

I think the best money is Summer time... Mountain lake fish sturgeon till 6pm then move to the ocean and fish super cucumbers. Catfish are good too.

I tend to go for the beach because I think sea fish give a better income overall, for a day's fishing. But that could be my bias showing, as it's easy to sell direct to Willy whilst he's in the shop.

High quality fish tend to hang out as far from walkways as possible, in the deeper water (darker) and next to underwater landmarks like that tall rock on the left side of the beach and the sunken logs in the mountain lake and the forest lake.

The ocean, the far left/west dock, there's a rock with a bunch of smaller rocks around it, one of my favorite spots.

For the lake, leave the mines, go left to that one or two tile peninsula and cast down/south into the lake

Pretty much. If you don't have the riverland farm you get garbage from the water on your land and if you do you only get basic fish. Any other water source (except like, the sewers or something) has fish you can catch.

I only wish I had more space to put Fish Ponds so that I could fit a whole aquarium on the farm. I had a Four Corners farm that was so fun to use as a kind of collection for each species. The fish quests would get so weird, too! They'd ask for the most random items like Nautilus Shells and Golden Masks.

Honestly, the lucrativity of fishing is season based more than anything, since you are going for pure gold quality, This makes it a little easier to choose. Now, based on your fishing skill, we can further narrow it. If you are level 9 or 10, then in spring, I would say go fish for the legend in the mountain lake, as each one of these caught, and at max distance gold, is worth 7500, and can be caught more than just once. In summer it would be ocean, casting at that rock off of the docks makes easy casting for gold, and summer has more profitable fish in the ocean. Fall, the river is just fine, and winter is more of choose wherever, since time isn't really an issue.

is there a legendary in the winter?

1 upvotes on reddit
augumon05 · 6 years ago

Each season has it's own legendary, however only the legend from the mountain lake can be caught more than once. The winter legendary fish is in the forest, on the island next to the hat mouse shack, from the most south point. However, it is widely agreed that the glacierfish as it is called is the most difficult legendary fish to catch.

  1. Location Types:

    • Ocean: Best for catching a variety of fish, especially during different seasons. Key fish include Tuna, Red Snapper, and Octopus.
    • River: Great for catching river fish like Catfish, Pike, and Salmon. Different fish appear in different seasons.

    • Fish availability changes with the seasons. Make sure to check which fish are available in each season to maximize your catch.
  3. Time of Day:

    • Some fish are only available during specific times (e.g., Night Fishing). Pay attention to the time of day when planning your fishing trips.
  4. Weather Conditions:

    • Rainy days can increase the chances of catching certain fish, like Catfish in the river.
  5. Fishing Skill Level:

    • As your fishing skill increases, you’ll unlock better fishing rods and bait, which can help you catch more fish and rarer species.

Top Fishing Spots:
