TL;DR
Popular Flight Search Engines
Google Flights is frequently mentioned as one of the best tools for finding flight deals due to its ease of use and ability to compare prices across different dates [2:2]
[4:1]. Skyscanner is another popular choice, praised for its comprehensive search capabilities
[4:1]. Both platforms allow users to research various airlines and routes before booking directly through the airline's website, which is often cheaper and more reliable
[2:3].
Direct Booking Advantages
Many users recommend booking flights directly with airlines after using search engines for comparison. This approach avoids potential issues with third-party sites, such as delayed customer support during weekends [4:2]. Direct booking can also provide access to loyalty programs and better customer service
[2:1].
Specialized Platforms
http://Kiwi.com is highlighted for its ability to find unique routing options that other sites may not offer [4:8]. It can be particularly useful for complex itineraries or avoiding specific countries during travel
[5:1]. Hopper is another site that has been successful in price matching and offers competitive rates
[3:4].
Package Deals and Travel Agents
For those interested in package deals, some users have found that travel agents can offer better deals than online bookings, especially for destinations like Fiji [2:4]. Websites like Expedia and http://Booking.com are useful for initial research but may not always provide the best final price compared to direct booking
[2:5].
Cautionary Notes
While exploring new platforms like Oafare, users should be cautious as some have reported it as a scam [4:12]. Always verify the credibility of lesser-known sites before making a purchase.
In summary, for the best flight booking experience in 2025, utilize search engines like Google Flights and Skyscanner for research, book directly with airlines when possible, and consider specialized sites like http://Kiwi.com for unique travel needs.

thanks for this good information
What are your best travel websites to get bang for your buck? I like to book packages (hotel and flights) personally but happy to book separately also! I like to travel overseas
I've found Google Flights is the best for finding good flight deals & easiest to compare prices quickly across different dates. Then you just book direct through that airline's page. Saved about $400 for a multi leg flight to Asia compared to Skyscanner's best option.
Just book directly with the airlines and hotel groups. If you sign up to membership with one of the large hotel groups and stay at their properties wherever you go, there will be various perks from member discounts only, to collecting points that goes to stay rewards, free wifi (it is the norm at some places to charge for wifi) and guaranteed late checkout. The other thing is, there's usually no hassles with issue resolution, whereas when going through a travel website like Expedia and Booking.com, I‘ve read stories from various disgruntled customers of how difficult to get help when there is a problem.
this. i use trivago or agoda for a rough comparison in the area and then go to the website of whatever property i choose, usually you get the same or lower price by booking directly.
i use skyscanner to compare flights but again it’s usually cheapest to book directly with the airline.
use an incognito browser window so you don’t have to deal with your targeted ads all becoming travel ads for the next 3 days and to stop artificial price inflation when you make your decision.
We use to do it all ourselves and still mostly dp, but we found for Fiji that a travel agent can get way better deals and package. We tried to replicate some of the quotes and it was already a few hundred dollars more for flights/accom before adding all the small stuff like airport transfer meal plans etc and most importantly free bar credits that could be a few hundred Aussie dollar all up.
Use booking.com etc to find a list of places, then Google the ones you like - and see if you can contact them directly. They can often do a better deal for you than what's on the big sites, bypassing the commission.
Hey fellow travelers,
Consider this the definitive list. Huge thanks to everyone who's already shared their wins! I thought it's high time we had a single, go-to thread for successful sites. You know how it is – endless scrolling for that one golden nugget of info. Let's keep this knowledge evolving
Below is the list based on my and fellow Redditors experience (I'll update as I find more information):
Successful Matches: Airline Direct Website, expedia.com, edreams.com, booking.com, trip.com, gotogate.com, priceline.com, Kiwi.com, travomint.com, makemytrip.com, flighthub.com hopper.com, destinaholidays.com, ctrip.com
Failed Matches: Google Flights, kayak.com, kissandfly.com, indianeagle.com, travelgo.com, ly.com
(Updated: 2025-04-22)
For the hotel aficionados among us, there's already a similar resource I've created here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Venturex/comments/1j48mj3/hotel_price_match_website_list/
Drop your successful (or unsuccessful!) sites in the hotels post as well as here. Let's make this community's collective knowledge work smarter, not harder.
Happy travels!
Destinaholidays.com was successful for me. Price match around $600 saved total on a $9k trip. Found this website from skyscanner
Wow. Added. Thanks
kissandfly.com failed
Added! Thanks
https://www.travelgo.com/ failed too. Forgot to mention
Hopper.com is successful. Funny enough, that’s what powers the Capital One booking engine, yet I found a better price on it.
lol.. Added. Thanks!
This should be added to the sidebar
Flighthub worked for me 2 months ago
Added. Thanks
I used kayak for a long time but I'm curious as to what other folks are using that they like
Google Flights, Skyscanner, Momondo, Kayak, etc. are all excellent search engines to research airlines/routes, then 95% of the time I book the actual flight directly with the airline.
I recommend the same thing. I used to search and purchase from these kind of websites, but i once had an issue with a flight and couldn't solve it asap because the website I bought it from was the original buyer of the ticket so I had to wait for their customer support and it was weekend so it turned out into a bad experience.
Also, i suggest downloading airlines apps on your phone as the process is simpler! You can keep track of your flights and changes.
That’s was I do- comparison shopping then go direct to airplane
Yeah, some of the 3rd Party Sites are great for research, bringing up routing and airlines that you might not have initially considered. Almost always a shit option for actually purchasing the flight though, especially for an inexperienced traveller.
>That’s was I do- comparison shopping then go direct to airplane
What if it's 3,4 connecting flights from USA to Asia? Have to use those kayak, expedia sites right? Can't book directly from the airline?
Kiwi finds stuff the other airlines do though special hacks
I just found this community. I'm not an avid user but hopefully my input can help those looking for real low fares on flights, hotels etc. I found the site 'Oafare' it is also an aggregator similar to Kayak, but the difference is they use a matrix system that finds low fares from 100's of sites and offers the best siphen out the best fares from the search results and there are no hidden fees involved. 0 fees.
Oafare a total scam loll
Oafare is partners with bookmyairtravel which is also known for scams.
Oafare also doesn't have reviews, why? Cause it's a damn scam loll
You choose the flight u want, you proceed, Oafare gives you a different flight time.
Don't advertise sites like that, please.
Question: i am looking to book a flight to japan to stay there for a month but how would i book the flight directly if the cheapest one i found on sky skanner, for example, have two airlines? The one in question is airfrance and china eastern
Air France and China Eastern are Sky Team partners. When you go to the website of the airline offering the first flight the second leg should automatically pop up.
Just looked on that site and found a great deal on a flight to Morocco for next week, thanks a lot
WOW!
New York ->-> Miami FEB 15th, 2024: $38
New York ->-> London FEB 25th, 2024: $244
Works perfectly for US and international flights, this is indeed a REALLY GOOD flight search engine! Seems even better Skyscanner and Google flight search.
Hello everyone - just curious if y'all have any good sites to search for flights from the UK (specifically any site that lets you select which countries you do and do not fly through, thinking specifically of flying from the UK to Mexico w/o entering the US).
I looked but couldn't find this info anywhere in the thread, so sorry if this has already been asked!
Greatescape.co, hopper or kiwi.com . you could also try travelrank, it combines both destination discovery and cheap flight pricing. booking is done via kiwi.
I recently posted the guide on how to do flight research during the pandemic.
Super helpful, thanks!
I’m looking for the best travel booking platforms in 2025 that actually play nice with business expense tools.
Navan is on the up and up. If not then Concur via your designated travel management company. Or travel advisor direct contact. Group travel bookings direct with hotel via CVENT
Past Navanian here, loved the product - they are an efficiency over everything company. Unfortunately that means all support is turning into AI. We saw a ton of churn because of it. ITILITE is a great alternative and up and coming. Just food for thought.
I agree on Navan
I saw someone else mention a similar experience planning a Japan trip where they almost burned all their Chase points and switched to Bookit. They said it was a bit pricier upfront, but the hotel cashback made up for it since you can redeem it toward flights later. From what I’ve heard, Bookit has a solid lineup of airlines and hotels with no sketchy stuff. I guess there's no harm in trying especially if you’re already using Expensify.
I use skyscanner and skiplagged for my initial searches, then book direct on an airlines website if i'm able to. Just curious what other sites you all are using these days. I will say that recently I have noticed that sometimes the airlines own website has cheaper fares than these aggregators seem to find. Maybe its because they only crawl every so often, and I've caught price drops on the airlines website before the aggregators picked them up.
I've just stuck with Kayak for over a decade, love the -/+3-day price grid.
Sometimes they send you to cheap-o bargain agencies/re-sellers you've never heard of... but I haven't had a bad result yet.
Google flights
I feel like the days of a website with cheap flights are long gone. Just need a good search built to ping you price changes
Google flights has all the features of other sites
Starting to think Skyscanner isn’t good anymore haha
Kiwi.com
Skyskanner allows “ anywhere “ in search
Skyscanner (correct spelling) and try also [Scott’s Cheap Flights](https://app.scottscheapflights.com
I’d look into signing up for “Scott’s cheap flights” for the future. I think it’s an email list, and whoever runs it sends out super cheap flights, flights posted by mistake (like half off, or $100 round trips instead of $1,000 that then have to be honored, etc).
My buddies and I have found round trips to a few destinations for dirt cheap. Great for impulse buying flights.
Is it city specific? I don’t need cheap flights out CLE lol
Haven’t used it in a long time. But turns out it’s no longer free (14 day free trial, or $49 / year cheapest plan).
You pick the cities / airports you want to follow and primarily receive deals from, then the different paid plans give you other perks and a greater selection of the flights found by the app.
Try google, add dates and origin and click explore (leave destination empty).
This is the way.
Also don’t book on any website but the airlines, you arnt going to get a better deal and you are SOL if something happens mid transit.
I have had booking problems when I book through Expedia and they were very helpful in resolving them.
Agree on the booking. If you buy through another site and there’s a problem, that company and the airline will blame each other.
And there’s always the map view for Google Flights.
The best imo
Mighty Travels works well for finding good last-minute flight deals without requiring a specific destination. Give it a try!
Has anyone ever used one of those websites that advertises ridiculously cheap flights and travel deals like Scott’s cheap flights or other websites like that where they say they will teach you travel jacks and you can travel for almost no money? Do these sites actually help? Has anyone successfully used a site like this to save a bunch of money?
I am a subscriber to Going (used to be Scott’s Cheap Flights). I have scored $75 r/t fares to the USVI from an airport in my region and $350 r/t fares from my closest airport to Ireland. The subscription fee paid for itself a few times over.
I think Skyscanner is always a good website to look at when trying to find a cheap flight as they show loads of options from different airlines and you can order them however you like whether that's the cheapest first or less stops etc.
still a big fan of Kiwi.com
I use this all the time. Only issue is that they don't support Southwest Airlines, which can often be the cheapest.
I have a Goings subscription and have used it a few times. Best deal was a flight from San Francisco to Rome under $360 RT. Not my home airport, but I made it work and saved a ton of money making it possible to actually make the trip feasible.
Going.com is only for the US btw :)
Secret Flying is pretty good and free too
I got UK to Bangkok for £340 with secret flying a couple months back, definitely recommend it
Which airline out of interest?
That's usually the one I check most too. Most of the time I don't need a flight there, but for the price I am almost tempted.
I did find a £25 return to Jordan (from Europe) flight, so instantly booked it after seeing that. Would be stupid not to for that, so just flew hand luggage 😝
I’m on a quest to finding cheap flights. Have normally always used google flights to finding the cheapest. Is there someone else you guys use to find cheap flights?
Have flexible dates- Wednesdays tend to be cheapest
Live near a big city (or be willing to drive to one)
Kiwi.com & Skyscanner.com- but ALWAYS BOOK WITH THE AIRLINE
Here is the system I used to find the cheapest flights again and again
I manage to fly super cheap using this system tons of times. For example 2 months ago I wanted to fly from Berlin to Bangkok and the cheapest flight searching Berlin --> Bangkok was around 900 euro. Using this method I found a flight from Berlin to London for 50 Euro and then later that day a flight from London to Bangkok for 250 euro , saving 600 euro!
Sky Scanner!
This. I've tried loads of others like Hopper but Sky Scanner always finds the best and much better filter and search options. Though I have found some craaaazy good deals on Holiday Pirates, you have to be super flexible on dates and location for them.
Seconded,
I used them for all my trips. There’s a ton of features that allow you to look at price analytics and prices per day across the entire internet!
It’s completely free too!
Just booked a trip to Europe(5 countries)and leaving in a couple days, flights were very very cheap(under $300 to across the Atlantic round trip)
Book directly with the airlines. If you need to make changes or cancel, it's way easier dealing with their customer service than through a third-party. That being said, there is an app I use to find the cheapest flight first before going directly to that airline. You can download or use it for free here.
Swaynest.com has an Everywhere search function that lets you enter the airport you're departing from. It will show you a list of locations and prices for the given date period. I spent ages researching this recently since I started to have flights at least three times a month and couldn't find any cheaper alternative.
One good reason is that with most airlines (in the U.S. at least) you have free cancellation within 24 hours. I booked a flight through a third party, tried to cancel my flight 18 hours later, they said no even though it was circumstances beyond my control. Luckily the situation resolved itself, but I will never book third party again. The protections you receive by going through the airline directly make it worth it.
If you need to make changes, or if flight is cancelled, etc, it's much easier to deal with the airline directly. If you book United via Expedia, you need to call Expedia to make any changes, even if you're at the airport standing at a United counter.
Yes definitely book with the airline if you can, unless the deal is only through that website (like cheap Caribbean or Expedia or something). If an issue arises and you need a refund for any reason, dealing with a third party is a pain in the ass and the airlines will defer to them if you purchase with them.
