What Redditors are Saying

Best Football Cleats

TL;DR

  • Mizuno Morelia Neo 3 and Adidas AdiPower Predators are highly praised for comfort and durability.
  • Nike Force Savage Pro 2 and Under Armor Highlights recommended for linemen.
  • New Balance Freeze V4/V5 and Adidas Adizero popular for ultimate frisbee.

Popular Cleat Models

Several cleats have been highlighted as favorites among players. The Mizuno Morelia Neo 3 is praised for its glove-like fit and durability, making it a sleeper choice especially popular among rugby players [1:1]. The Adidas AdiPower Predators are noted for their wide toe box, durable leather, and power-hitting element on the instep [1:2]. Other notable mentions include the Nike CTR Maestri series and the Adidas F50+ [1:6].

Cleats for Linemen

For linemen, comfort and support are crucial due to the physical demands of the position. The Nike Force Savage Pro 2 has been recommended for its comfort and ability to prevent foot soreness [2:1]. Under Armor Highlights are another option, offering high-top design for added ankle support [2:2]. However, it's also important to address potential foot pain through proper stretching and off-field care [2:3].

Cleats for Ultimate Frisbee

When it comes to ultimate frisbee, American football cleats are often preferred over soccer boots due to their stud patterns. The New Balance Freeze V4 and V5 are popular choices, with users noting their comfort and improved durability in newer models [4:1][5:2]. Adidas Adizero is another commonly recommended cleat, although some users have experienced discomfort due to tight toe boxes [5:3].

Considerations for Choosing Cleats

Comfort should be the primary consideration when choosing cleats. It's important to try different brands and models to find what fits best for your foot shape and playing style [3:2][3:3]. Some players prefer specific brands like Adidas or Nike based on personal experience and foot shape [3:3]. Additionally, consider the type of sport you're playing, as certain cleats may offer better performance or comfort depending on the activity [4:3][5:1].

What are your favorite cleats that you have felt the most comfortable in? I remember putting these on for the first time, and felt invincible.

Adidas AdiPower predators. Wide toe box, blade stud shape, durable leather, and a power hitting element on the instep. Wish I had tried to fix my old pair instead of throwing them away. If they ever re-issue it, I’ll pay over MSRP for sure!

These were also my favorite. Plus at the time they were the lightest predator to ever exist. My favorite power element as well.

Where do you live?

From my own experiences in England the market is about 80% Nike and Adidas, 10% Puma, then Under Armour and Mitre make up most of the rest

You can buy Lotto, Mizuno, Asics etc, but I never see anyone actually wearing them

Mizuno Morelia neo 3 by far are the best cleats I’ve played in. I like that they’re a sleeper cleat, and ALOT of rugby players use them. The MIJ are better than elites imo because of how long they last, they just don’t break apart, and it feels like wearing a glove.

Best football cleats - lineman edition

Posted by Obvious-Mess-409 · in r/YouthFootball · 1 month ago

These guys do a lot of "chopping their feet" and my son is complaining his heel hurts. Tried the heel pads and might need to bite the bullet and get him new cleats. Does anyone recommend a certain type for lineman?

My son who is also a lineman had been wearing the Under Armor Highlights for a couple of season they are a high top and he loved them. If the off season he plays 7v7 and he wears the Nike Menace. Which is more of a mid shoes.

This year he won a pair of Jordan which he loves, but they do not offer the same level of support and protection, so we had to tape his ankles

1 upvotes on reddit
jasondavis52 · 1 month ago

I’d venture to say it’s not the cleats. Chopping feet is usually done up on toes so the heel pain is probably the ‘stretch’ and recoil of being up more than anything. Treating that with proper stretching, rest if needed, off field shoes, and possibly some other treatments to lessen strain/stretch/inflammation is going to do more than new cleats. Big nasty lineman usually aren’t toe walkers so learning to be up on toes and explosive is painful early in the season.

Not a doctor nor claim to be. Just been coaching middle school football for 10 years and dealing with the annual WebMD diagnosis by all my parents every year on why Junior can’t practice today.

Depends on if he is in youth or adult sizes. Most youth cleats are not positions specific. My son just moved into adut sizes and I got him the Nike Force Savage Pro 2's he likes them so far and says they are comfortable and don't make his feet sore.

Pointless getting a boot because it looks nice for it to only cripple your feet for the next house.

Try some boots on, make sure they are comfortable.

Don’t get suckered into boots by position rubbish.

What are the best boots/cleats for ultimate?

Posted by Toner2336 · in r/ultimate · 3 months ago

Hi guys, I’m on holidays in the US for a couple of weeks and I am planning on using the opportunity to get new boots for ultimate.

I know American football cleats are usually better for ultimate compared to soccer boots based on the stud patterns and it can be very difficult to find American football cleats where I am from.

I’m hoping you guys can give me some recommendations, thanks in advance!

New Balance Freeze V4 are the most comfortable cleat I've ever worn and I loved the plate on them. They had pretty poor durability and I went through 2 pairs last summer.

I've currently got the V5 and have had them since November. Haven't had any durability issues so far. They are a little tighter on the foot, but they're still very comfortable and I haven't noticed any major difference with the plate.

I’m not crazy about the V5 compared to the V4, so I tried the NB Burn. It’s a very good shoe, and a little lighter. I found that I had to replace the stock foam insoles to get them to fit as well as the freeze V4.

Best Cleats/Boots

Posted by MW6422 · in r/ultimate · 2 years ago

Hi everyone, I've had a look on the subreddit and not found much recently on peoples opinions so thought I'd ask.

Football( aka soccer) boots feel ridicously uncomfortable. They're tight and don't have any padding, which I get for playing football as you want to feel the ball, but ultimate doesn't exactly involve much feeling with your feet.

Tokay make a pair of boots for ultimate but I've heard some are wary of the durability.

Lacrosse seems like a decent idea, pricey but seem good

American football cleats didn’t work for me - many on this Reddit recommended the Adidas Adizero.

I wanted them to work but after three months of pain and blisters I finally gave up and switched to New Balance Lacrosse cleats (Freeze v4). They’ve been fantastic, no pain at all with a slightly wider toe box. Highly recommend checking out New Balance lacrosse cleats!

12 upvotes on reddit
MW6422 · OP · 2 years ago

What was it that didn't work? Was it a comfort problem or a performance problem?

1 upvotes on reddit
T
TechKatana · 2 years ago

Performance was great - they were super light and I felt like I could cut on a dime.

Problem was with the sizing and materials - the toe box on the Adizero is very tight, and I constantly had blisters on my big toes and outer foot knuckle. In addition, the ankle support is very thin and relatively hard, which caused irritation and even drew blood as I pivoted my ankle during cutting.

The Adizero are great cleats, they just didn’t work for my feet. My podiatrist said “yeah cleats suck in general, you just have to find a pair that causes you the least pain.”

So far, the New Balance Freeze have caused less pain for me than the Adizero, likely due to a wider toe box and more ankle padding.

Football Cleats?

Posted by LiftSleepRepeat123 · in r/barefootshoestalk · 1 month ago

What are the best football cleats you've found that meet your barefoot requirements? For me, the most important thing is a wide toe box. I'd want mostly zero drop, but considering these shoes aren't for walking, it's a bit less important. (The footstrike will be abbreviated from running).

I'm thinking about trying the Innov8 Mudtalon Zero. I had a pair of Innov8's several years ago with this very aggressive tread. It was pretty good in grass, but it didn't dig in quite as well as true cleats. These shoes are designed primarily for mud, so that's something you have to live with.

I also just found the Natural Athletics' Iron Lion, which seems to be the only true cleat I can find with a good toe box. I know nothing about this brand though.

In terms of the exact "football" sport, I'm not sure how much it matters. American football, soccer, rugby. I would be looking for a lighter cleat that can do all three, plus any other casual league I want to join.

I have older X-Talons for most field sports like softball, flag football, and ultimate. For soccer if you're any good at all, you'd probably hate playing in them. If you're super casual like me, it's probably fine.

How quickly did the spikes wear down for you? I think the last time I got into this, my Innov8's only really lasted one flag football season before they were losing grip.

It would be extremely helpful if you could provide feet measurements (both length and width) when seeking a recommendation, so if you have not provided this, please reply to this comment or edit your post with your measurements. All barefoot shoes are different, and you may find one style fits you whilst another does not. Feet measurement can help you get a better recommendation. Go to a sports store and ask. Adidas and Nike are the two biggest ones. The things u have to pay attention for are surfase, weight and studs.

For surface u should check how much friction it has, more friction more spin and also more friction you have more the ball will "stay stuck" on your foot. Some people also like frictionless boots. Ingeneral more friction=easier to shoot recieve and pass, less friction=easier to dribble.

On weight, less weight=u go faster, more weight=ball is easier to control.

And lastly studs should be the ones that fit best on the playing field you are using. Generally rounded studs are better for turning and quick changes of direction and non round stads are better for sprints.

For u I'd say a boot with much friction, quite heavy and preferrably rounded studs. I'd not get lighter or lownfriction shoes unless u know that u r gonna be an attacker whose biggest strength is speed.

I use Nike ones but would probably recommend Adidas more because they are more durable.

Just go to the shop and try some on.

When I was a kid for whatever reason the Adidas ones never fit my foot comfortably so I always went for Nike or Umbro. I actually ended up preferring Umbro but had some decent Nike pairs over the years as well.

So everyone can tell you ohh get this, get that but like my experience with Adidas there might be a brand that aren't for you

Are Adidas good?

4 upvotes on reddit
orkushun · 3 years ago

Yes, as are Nikes and Pumas. But the recommendations above offer more value for money and are just as good. My first cleats were Diadoras and they were very comfortable and durable. Now I cant look inside your wallet but the right answer is definitely whichever fit your feet the best. All the brands have different shapes, some are better for wide feet others for narrow, some for higher feet some for lower. Just go try on a few and look beyond brands.

In the end if they are leather they will form to your feet but initially you will save yourself some discomfort by finding ones that are already nice and snug without being too tight.

At entry level you will not notice the difference between the shoes in terms of technical ability or control over the ball.

Have fun!

Totally. As long as they're football cleats, they're all designed to do the same thing. If you can afford screw-ins, I usually recommend those over molded cleats, just because you can replace them as they age and they don't risk as much wear and tear if you take decent care of them.

Key Considerations for Choosing Football Cleats:

  1. Type of Field:

    • Firm Ground (FG): Best for natural grass fields.
    • Artificial Ground (AG): Designed for turf surfaces.
    • Soft Ground (SG): Ideal for wet or muddy conditions.
  2. Fit and Comfort:

    • Ensure a snug fit without being too tight. Consider trying on cleats with the socks you'll wear during games.
  3. Position-Specific Features:

    • Skill Position Players (WR, DB): Look for lightweight cleats with good traction for speed and agility.
    • Linemen: Heavier cleats with more support and stability are beneficial.
  4. Traction:

    • Choose cleats with a stud pattern that provides optimal grip for your playing style and field conditions.
  5. Material:

    • Synthetic materials are often lighter and more durable, while leather offers a classic feel and comfort.

Recommendations:

  • Nike Vapor Untouchable Pro 3: Great for speed players, lightweight, and excellent traction.
  • Adidas Adizero Primeknit: Known for its comfort and fit, ideal for skill position players.
  • Under Armour Highlight MC: Offers great ankle support and stability, suitable for linemen.

Takeaway: Choose cleats based on your playing position, field type, and personal comfort. Trying on different brands and styles can help you find the best fit for your needs.
