What Redditors are Saying

Best Home Remedies for Keratosis Pilaris

TL;DR

  • Moisturize more, exfoliate less.
  • Use products with urea, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid.
  • Consider vitamin A supplements.

Moisturizing and Exfoliation Balance

A common theme in the discussions is finding the right balance between moisturizing and exfoliating. Many users emphasize that over-exfoliating can exacerbate keratosis pilaris (KP), while consistent moisturizing can help manage symptoms [1:1][4:1]. Products like unscented Aveeno lotion and Eucerin repair with Urea 10% are popular choices for keeping skin hydrated [1:1][1:6].

Chemical Exfoliants

Chemical exfoliants are often recommended over physical scrubs as they tend to be gentler on the skin. Glycolic acid and salicylic acid are frequently mentioned as effective ingredients for KP treatment [1:3][4:1][5:2]. Users have found success using products like Pixi Glow Tonic and CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser [1:1][3].

Urea Creams

Urea creams are highlighted as beneficial for KP due to their keratolytic properties, which help break down the excess keratin causing the bumps [2:4][4:2]. Eucerin's roughness relief lotion and Goldbond Rough and Bumpy cream are noted for their effectiveness [2:5][5:4].

Vitamin A Supplementation

Several users suggest that KP might be linked to a vitamin A deficiency. Cod liver oil, beef liver, and beef tallow are recommended for their high vitamin A content [2:2][2:3]. Some individuals have also seen improvements by supplementing with vitamin A, D, and Omega 3s [1:2].

Routine Adjustments

Adjusting your skincare routine based on individual needs and responses is crucial. Users recommend experimenting with different products and methods, such as dry brushing, using an exfoliating mitt, or incorporating retinol creams [1:1][3][2:6]. It's important to note that what works for one person may not work for another, so patience and experimentation are key [2:1].

Supplementing with vitamin A, D, and Omega 3s helped my KP a lot, I see ~50% reduction in symptoms with that routine. I'm not sure which vitamin(s) it is that is helping my KP since I take them all together, but that was the only thing I changed and I didn't even know it could happen and woke up one morning and my skin looked great. I stopped taking them for 3 months and my skin looked so bad that my mom noticed. Gentle physical exfoliation, alpha hydroxy acid products, and heavy moisturizing products helped my KP a lot as well. I use a washcloth and wash with a gentle soap in the shower, use a glycolic acid moisturizer, and seal it in with olive oil on my arms after it has dried down. The exact products aren't important, I've used ~5 AHA products on my arms and they all kept my bumps away, and the olive oil step could be replaced with another oil or thick moisturizer you like better.

I have horrific KP, all down my arms, back, butt, legs, and even on my face. I have found that exfoliating less and moisturizing more has been the key to keeping the bumps under control. I dry brush my entire body every night, and slather myself with unscented Aveeno lotion. For my face, I exfoliate at night with a glycolic acid toner (currently using the Pixi Glow Tonic, which is 5% glycolic acid) and use a hyaluronic acid serum in addition to a heavier moisturizer than what I would use during the day (I love the Fenty Instant Reset gel cream), topped with a couple drops of pure argan oil.

I feel similarly, physical exfoliation makes my KP worse. I wash with a rough-ish textured washcloth for some light physical exfoliation, and use glycolic acid for chemical exfoliation. And using moisturizing lotions and stuff has been a huge game changer compared to my teenage years thinking my bumps were acne and I needed to strip my skin of all it's oil 😭

Eucerin repair with Urea 10% helps a lot. I also sometimes use the KP scrub that is really popular. Way worse when my water is really hard. I am looking to switch to a more moisture rich body wash to see if it helps.

I use the Alpha skincare renewal body lotion with 12% glycolic acid twice a day. It’s gentle, has no smell (I’m looking at you AmLactin) it leaves my skin soft, tones down the redness BUT my skin is never 100% bump free. It clears about 90% of it.

Interesting.. I experimented with the ordinarys lactic acid and am nearly bump free but not redness free, might have to try the lotion

If you only exfoliate without moisturising a lot afterwards it's just exacerbating it

I cycle between Cerave SA lotion, Aveeno Unscented and Coconut oil - skin is currently smooth and bump free, but SO much dead skin comes off every day it’s insane.

Ever see those Italy towel videos where they scrub and all the grey strings come off? I get tons of those every day. Even if I dedicate 20 mins exfoliating a day in the shower the next day I still get the same amount.

It’s like I have wolverine healing powers but for my skin. And if I skip exfoliating for like a week the build up is insane.

[Routine Help] aggressive keratosis pilaris

Posted by [deleted] · in r/SkincareAddiction · 4 years ago

Hi, I know that I should go see my doctor regarding this issue, but unfortunately due to the pandemic, doctor's appointments are limited to urgent cases only (where I live)... :(

Summer is coming, and while I know that I won't be able to get rid of this by then, I'd still really like to be able to wear T-shirts without getting too many weird looks. My current routine consists of exfoliating with a sugar body scrub and moisturising (Neutrogena Intense Repair body lotion) the affected area, but there's been pretty much zero progress so far.

It looks much worse in real life (damn samsung blurry effect :') )

Keratosis Pilaris is very often linked to a vitamin A deficiency! The best ways to combat this are through supplements, or if you eat meat, eating liver!

People have found great success with using beef tallow on their Keratosis Pilaris, which has vitamin A in it (as well as other vitamins).

Shea butter might help moisturise the area and ease some of the roughness. But I totally recommend going for some vitamin A!

The most effective regimen to eliminate KP and discoloration:

  1. apply cod liver oil directly to skin as a replacement for lotion. (Night time, the smell sucks but the effect is incredible). Keep another bottle of oil in the freezer and swallow down a tablespoon often.

  2. drink homemade broth everyday (gelatinous—beef tendons for beef broth, or chicken feet for chicken broth).

  3. eat grass fed/finished beef liver at least weekly

Your skin issue is a manifestation of a vitamin/mineral deficiency, particularly vitamin A in the form of NATURAL retinol. Don’t bother with expensive synthetic retinol creams. Go for cod liver oil from rositas or frankies free range meats.

Since childhood, its been on my jawline, upper arms, forearms, shoulder blades, calves, thighs, and buttocks. I tried a lot of the synthetic cosmetic products (acid lotions, synthetic retinol creams), scrubs (Moroccan kessa, Korean glove), oils (coconut oil, argan oil), etc. They were all a waste of time.

You must address the nutritional deficiency through dietary and transdermal absorption of fat soluble vitamins (A, D, K, E) from animal sources as they are the most bioavailable.

I find exfoliating with a salicylic wash is a little more effective than a physical scrub, I just use a generic salicylic acne face wash from Target. A lot of people swear by Amlactin for moisturizer, but I prefer Eucerin's roughness relief lotion because it feels better, smells less weird, and has the benefits of lactic acid and urea. Both have exfoliating ingredients so if you find it irritating just incorporate a basic moisturizer and/or gentle wash in between uses. And remember to use sunscreen when you're not wearing long sleeves!

I have used retinol creams with some success! I ended up getting a tretinoin prescription for my arms which was the most effective, but before then was using just random retinol creams off of Amazon which definitely still helped. I did have to use it every single day and if I didn’t, you could notice.

The second most effective thing I’ve tried is Amlactin, but personally have had no success with urea creams and scrubs

Most irritating thing about KP is that there is no, one method suits all.. I’m 29 and have had it on my legs, ribs and arms since I was 15. I’ve spent thousands on trying to fix it, been to 5 dermatologists and rarely see a product I haven’t tried. Ive found successful routines that have worked but I’ve had to change them a few times because of age, hormones and moving to a different climate. Best advice I can give you is to forget about the products and brands and ONLY concentrate on the ingredients. Especially avoid almost everything that mentions KP on the label. To figure out your treatment understand the process....

The process is frustrating because it’s contradictory, what you’re trying to do is:

  1. break down/exfoliate your skins superficial barrier to unblock the pores caused by trapped sweat and hair. Only way to do this successfully is by using chemicals that cause extremely dry skin.
  2. Lock in as much moisture as you can to avoid the dry skin that blocks your pores. Dry skin is the #1 enemy of KP. Remember Moisturisers don’t actually moisturise, they lock in existing moisture which you need to be very vigilant about.

You need to figure out what products work for your skin to achieve these steps. KEEP A DIARY of what you’re using with all full list of the ingredients you’re using- pretty soon you’ll find ingredients that don’t work for you and you can then avoid them in the future. Also a LOT of people have psoriasis Or dermatitis on top of their KP and don’t realise so they use products that may help KP but worsen psoriasis etc. A couple of dermatologists did skin analysis on my arms and I have dermatitis on areas where the skin looks completely normal to me.

Here’s some of the most frequent methods that are successful:

#1 / exfoliate: Wash skin with an extremely soft sponge or your hands, never manually exfoliate it’s the worst thing you can do even though it’s VERY tempting! Instead you need to exfoliate with chemicals so the skin sheds ‘naturally’.

Figure out which of these chems work for you or what mix: AHA & BHA’s lactic acid, salicylic acid, urea and Glycolic acid. Don’t waste your money on expensive products, find the ingredients! Took me a LONG time to realise that some common Ingredients mixed in with recommended products were preventing them from working or worsening the other skin conditions masked by kp as I mentioned above, avoid anything with parfum/fragrance.

Beginners should start with a Glycolic acid and salicylic acid, these are the key ingredients in the most popular products recommended like Amlactin, Paula’s choice KP and Cerva SA however they all contain other ingredients that can POSSIBLY negatively effect your skin. The Ordinary has great options like 7% glycolic acid solution for $8. Also I like Revox Just Salicylic Acid 2% $10.

Also when I have flare ups from weather I’ll treat my skin in the middle of the day with BHA wipes / pads fo run over my arms and legs before theb moisturising etc.

#2 / MOISTURISE Avoid any shower products that contain soap or anything harsh, use specialty skin oil cleansers from the chemist or very very gentle wash. After skin is washed, exfoliated then again BHA and AHA cream products work but you need to keep your skin hydrated ON TOP of any chemial cream and avoid the sun. It’s really irritating at first as it takes a lot of patience and routine to constantly be slathered in stuff but once you’ve calmed down your KP and found what works then you won’t have to apply as much. Most common products that work, to be used on top of any chemical product: Simple cheap barrier creams from the chemist are a good option if you’re doing aha exfoliating AND aha/BHA creams first.

OILS: Argan oil, Olive oil, Coconut oil (all should be 100% w no other ingredients)

BEE PRODUCTS: bees wax moisturiser, Bee Propoli moisturiser — regenerates and heals skin (most powerful one I’ve found) great to use for when you damage your skin (sunburn, winter etc) so all your hard work from following a steady routine doesn’t go down toilet. Also don’t waste your money on Egyptian magic! There’s like 4 ingredients and they’re all easily sourced for very cheap.

Coal Tar (especially if you have psoriasis) Vitamin E cream

Other random tips: Drink a lot of water, Avoid hot showers or if you can’t handle cold showers try and finish on a cold rinse, get enough vitamin D or take vitamin D3 drops and in winter use good quality water sprays to keep your skin hydrated under your clothes during the day (Avene thermal spring water). Hormones can play a big part as well, my mum had KP really badly and it COMPLETELY disappeared for years after she fell pregnant and gave

My most effective treatment!

Posted by bagelscatsandtea · in r/keratosis · 4 months ago

Hi everyone, just thought I'd drop a post in to share the products and methods I use because I've noticed a real improvement over the last month. I have found that doing a gentle scrub pretty much every day keeps the KP at bay, and products wise I use:

  • Cerave SA Smoothing Cleanser
  • Naturium KP body scrub & mask
  • A bar of soap inside an exfoliating mitt - this is ridiculously effective for me and I can't believe how simple it is
  • The inkey list glycolic acid exfoliating body stick - sometimes I use a glycolic toner that I usually use on my face for a more intense clean feel
  • Cerave SA Smoothing Cream

I don't use all of these products every time, but I do use all at least twice a week. I feel so much softer and smoother so I had to share ☺️

Looking for ways to help my KP on my arms. I’ve seen on TikTok some remedies like using a dry brush and using glycolic acid. Urea cream/lotion. Tell me what worked for you. What should I try? What brands? Lotions, toners, and what to wash with. Help! I need all the tips and advice you can throw at me.

My arms look like this and I feel self conscious because it looks like acne and I'm also a skin picker so it's really hard to resist popping them. I've tried 10% urea lotion daily but it doesn't seem to have an effect on them, just moisturises my skin. Urea is supposed to be kerolytic so I'm annoyed it doesn't do anything for my KP. Commenting to hopefully see advice from others, good luck OP

I should add that my dermatologist (a really good one) said the trick to KP is less emphasis on exfoliation and more about moisturising the skin. As yours seems raised like mine rather than just flat dots on the skin, I would strongly advise against physical exfoliation on the areas. I think this does more harm than good and inflames the area. Instead, chemical exfoliants like salicylic acid or azaelic acid could be more gentle exfoliation options. Recently I've started using the CeraVe salicylic acid cleanser in the shower. I let it sit on my skin for about 3-5 minutes to let it work before rinsing off. I'm not sure if it's helping me much, maybe it's just too soon to say, but this is often recommended on the sub. Always avoid hot showers/baths as this dries out the skin. Instead, tepid water is ideal. I would also pat your skin dry with a towel instead of rubbing it. Finally, while your skin is still damp, you should apply a moisturiser, like one with urea as this is supposed to break down keratin while moisturising the skin. I hope this will work for you but sadly it seems to do nothing beneficial for my kp. You've probably seen stuff about SmoothKP on this sub - maybe give this a try if you're not seeing any improvements with the methods stated above. The downside is it's really expensive for the amount you get, although I understand the creator is working on reducing costs.

Finally, I hope you don't let it get to you too much. Even though it's somewhat ironic coming from me, who is deeply insecure about it, it really is nothing to be ashamed of. This skin condition affects a shockingly high % of the population and my derm told me that most people don't look at skin this closely or even notice this type of thing. If anything they just look like little freckles! Good luck on your skin journey and remember you aren't alone <3

Salux or any other exfoliating nylon washcloth. I have KP over my arms and shoulders, so I can scrub pretty hard at it without issue. I've found the physical exfoliation helps clear the way for the chemical exfoliators to have more of an effect.

This is what I use as well. I also apply rich body creams and butter to the KP areas because, for me at least, the KP is a side-effect of very dry skin. As long as I moisturize properly, the KP stays away.

I didn't either, skin and stomach are more connected than we realize. I didn't know until I cut gluten out because of chronic fatigue syndrome and ibs. But lo and behold it also was the culprit for my many skin issues. 😅 sometimes our skin issues is a telling of something our gut isn't digesting well or is causing inflamation. I'll break out when I accidentally eat it and get kp on my arms and chest. It can develop randomly or due to stress, even antibiotics, if it isn't genetic.

My KP was caused by gluten intolerance 😅 I use to use body scrubs and lotions and they never worked. I went gluten free for a different reason and it ended up being the cause for me. You can have a sensitivity to it without being celiac. It's typically genetic. Otherwise, The hair follicules get extra keratin sometime too, causing KP, so use body wash and lotions that have lactic acid, vitamin A(retinol), ferrulic acid, or glycolic acid. And increase your food intake containing vitamin A. Just thought to bring it up!

[routine help] At my wits end with my KP

Posted by mamaramma · in r/Skincare_Addiction · 4 months ago
post image

I’ve tried everything for my keratosis pilaris, and I still have these awful red bumps—especially on my arms. My skin is super fair, almost translucent, so every spot looks extra noticeable. I’ve spent a small fortune on KP products and while some of them make my skin feel smoother to the touch, the visual redness and bumps never really go away.

Here’s what I’ve tried: • CeraVe SA Wash and Moisturizer • The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner • Urea creams (multiple brands) • Lactic acid creams like AmLactin • Naturium KP Scrub + Glycolic Acid Wash • First Aid Beauty’s entire KP line • SkinFix’s KP line

I’m also doing laser hair removal—the hair is almost gone, but the spots are still there. I even saw a dermatologist who told me to “just exfoliate.” Ma’am… that’s literally all I have been doing. Her only advice was to “keep at it.”

I’m honestly so frustrated. It’s getting warmer and I don’t want to spend another summer feeling like I have to hide my arms.

So I’m asking: is there anything that actually worked for you that’s not on this list? I’m ready to try something more aggressive if it’ll make a difference.

In terms of nutrition, for a few horrible months I went gluten, dairy, and sugar free—spoiler: it didn’t nothing except make me miserable. In terms of supplements, I take a multivitamin, Vitamin D, a probiotic, omega 3-6-9 and Magnesium + Calcium.

Also open to good transfer-proof makeup or body concealers that can hide this stuff. I just want my skin to look clear, even if it’s just for special occasions.

Itll never completley go away for most ppl but I think that another issue could be how you use products.  If youre truly desperate but responsible the next stop from the ceravr would ve just pure salicylic acid (besides the normal shower scrubbing. The issue is that you have to do it every single day and for months to gauge the effect.

I know, and I am consistent! 😓 I do some sort of exfoliation and moisturize every day, until I use up the bottles— then will realize that it hasn’t worked as well as I would like and will switch to something new! I’ve been at it for years. So tired.

The thing is KP is overproduction of skin technically so for some ppl over exfoliating will actually make it worse.  Ive spent some more time looking at the pic and unfortunately you have the kind that will never go away 100% but its also not so bad it looks to be a lot around hairs. Unfortunately it just means that to work with it you need to figure out a moisturizer that works for you, (i recommend two kind because my skin gets “used” to stuff very fast and so lotions become less effective. Just as for some it take a bit longer to work.)  You also need a better shaving prep. (or wait until the laser treatments are done. ) (but frankly im confused that the laser ppl didn’t recommend a laser treatment for the kp which is a thing.. they are usually done at the same places its insanely expensive tho.)  Finally the way you moisturize is important. Best effect is after warmshowers (altho that doesnt mean you have to shower everyday.) pat dried skin. Dollop on the hand and then circular motions roughly the size of half your palm.  Its not the same as just slathering lotion on like most ppl do. Youre rubbing it into the skin.

And the saddest part is if you stop itll go back to exactly as it was when you started. (most likely.)

On the other hand 99% of ppl dont notice kp and dont care about it.

Altho I feel uncomfortable to give tips w/o knowing youre routine and other products since they can counteract like I mentioned before I suspect youre issue is more about HOW youre using products not the products themselves.

-body brushing in the shower when the water is running. Use a brush with rubber nubs (such as the one in the link) and start brushing from your ankels up towards the rest of your body in an upwards motion. Doing this while the water is already running works so much better for my KP. link to the brush

-follow your body brushing right away with an exfoliating mitten (1 time a week) or a body wash/soap. I rotate the pelicans back acne soap, the kwailnara cleanser, dr bonner lavender soap and the dove beauty bar. I switch it up daily.

-after showering i apply the kwailnara body lotion (this stuff is truely magic in a bottle. It has make old scars and stretchmarks fade and it soothes my KP like no other), shortly followed by johnsons baby oil (pink cap) all over my body.

I’ll need to look into this kwailnara brand—which wash and moisturizer specifically?

I actually use a similar brush but not every day. Maybe I’ll try it more consistently!

i do not notice any differences between the kwailnara lotions and cleansers different scents. at the moment i am using the green tea cleanser and the oathes lotion, but i find them all very similar. they just have a slightly different smell, so since i dislike the smell of coconut i gave my bottles of the coconut scent to my mom. they have like half a dozen scents, so there is something for everybody. i buy them from yesstyle or stylevana, but if you have a tk or tj maxx in your country you can something find them for like half the price!

and yes, body brush daily when in the shower!!! it will help you so much!

Have you tried Inkey List Glycolic Acid body stick? I have chicken skin on the back of my legs and the stick has been helping me quite a bit.

Welcome to r/skincare_addiction! We'd like to take this time to remind you of a few things:

#Do not ask for a diagnosis/treatment advice for acne or other medical conditions, and do not play doctor

What constitutes medical advice?

  • "What is this?"

This is asking someone to diagnose the issue, and is medical advice.

  • "What should I do?"

This is asking someone to advise treatment, and is medical advice.

  • "Should I go to the doctor?"

This is asking if you should seek treatment, and ergo, medical advice.

If you would ask the question of your doctor, it falls under this rule and not allowed. As a general rule, asking for medical advice from internet strangers is never a good idea. If you have questions regarding your acne or other medical condition, you are advised to contact your healthcare provider. If you are a medical provider, we would gently remind you that users are not patients, and you should not be offering medical advice to people who are not your patients.

Unfortunately theres no cure for it, only maintenance. I have it on the back of my arms and what helps me is moisturizing. I use the the night time neutrogena body gel cream and it really helps me. Its doesn’t have any exfoliating properties but it has zinc which is anti inflammatory.

Completely cleared mine up by eliminating gluten. I mean completely! Took about a month. My back of the arm skin is so smooth for the first time in decades.

Yes! Sounds crazy, because I’ve been suffering for YEARS and it was so bad I was ashamed to wear short sleeves and shorts. After trying everything I could find a recommendation on online, the thing that solved this for me was fixing and maintaining my moisture barrier. I have dry skin, so it needs love and good moisture, not stripping acids and scrubs. I use gentle body soaps (the Bioderma Atoderm Shower Oil is my long-reigning HG) and moisturize with jojoba oil (skin-identical lipid structures) on damp skin. I do gentle physical exfoliation once a week when I can remember (mostly for fun, really). The key is being consistent. I can manage several days without the above-mentioned routine and my skin looks fine, but it always comes back once my moisture barrier is compromised.

I started seeing results within a week! I remember that moment of looking at my skin in the shower in tears of joy and thinking “BLESS. FINALLY!” It continued improving over time as scars faded and redness+irritation were replaced with smooth, calm patches. I really hope this works for you!

Amlactin Daily Moisturizing Body Lotion, with the green (not blue) font. It has 12% lactic acid and says to use it twice a day; I use it once a day and am KP-free for like 2, almost 3 days after that😭😭literally a miracle for me. I’d previously tried all kinds of scrubs, peels, moisturizers, etc., but with Amlactin, I put it on before bed and wake up with skin as smooth as butter. It’s pricey for a lotion and smells like straight up acid (legit like, ammonia smelling salts or something🤣) but it’s the only thing I’ve tried that made any difference!

I’ve tried literally everything, AmLactin, everything that’s ever been made and marketed specifically towards KP. The ONLY thing that’s almost completely resolved it consistent use-like 4 times a week- of Gytone lotion (it’s 17 % glycolic acid). I buy it from Dermstore. I usually get it in a set with a scrubbie that I toss in the trash as it’s too abrasive, and a glycolic acid body wash that I only use in preparation for shaving. I can’t recommend this combo enough, but sunscreen is so so so important while using it. I got a 2nd degree sunburn on vacation once because I didn’t re-apply often enough. Good luck, it’s such a frustrating thing to deal with.

Hi! Did this routine help w redness?

You might consider this routine. I’ve only had KP once in the past on my forearms & this is what worked for me:

Cleanser/physical exfoliant with AHA: (use in shower 1-3x/week) - First Aid Beauty KP Bump Eraser Body Scrub with 10% AHA (glycolic acid and lactic acid)

You can also use exfoliating gloves in the shower. If you use them, start out with once/week; be very gentle & very lightly rub your skin with whatever body wash you normally use. You don’t want to be too harsh & irritate your skin. I love them! They leave my entire body so soft. And I always use them BEFORE shaving my legs. I think using these gloves for gentle physical exfoliation is what prevented my KP from returning.

Exfoliant: (apply to clean skin 1-3x/week) - The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution

Moisturizer: (apply DAILY after shower to slightly damp skin or after the glycolic acid) - CeraVe SA Lotion For Rough & Bumpy Skin or the CeraVe SA Cream For Rough & Bumpy Skin (salicylic acid & lactic acid). You want to keep your skin moisturized. If your skin is dry, reapply the moisturizer 2-3 times/day.

I could not tolerate the smell of AmLactin, yet use it if it works for you.

If these over-the-counter products don’t work after 2-3 months of regular use, you might consider consulting a dermatologist.

Hope this is helpful! 😊

So I would use the Ordinary toner and then the CeraVe after? I currently use KP body scrub and CeraVe and I am noticing a difference!

Yes, you can use TO glycolic toner & then apply the CeraVe SA lotion or cream on top. ☺️

I no longer have KP & still use the glycolic toner on my body. It works great!

Been dealing with this my whole life so I feel you. I’ve had great success with nylon exfoliating towels and hammam gloves. I use one or the other and they work about the same. Both work better if I’ve been in a hot shower/bath for a few minutes before exfoliating. I find the gloves/mitt style works best on wet skin without soap, but I like to lather soap with the towels.

Using a new razor more frequently and body wash with a chemical exfoliant helps as well. I like Cerave Renewing SA Cleanser.

Niacinamide for KP in s a must to help our KP

Posted by jsia1274 · in r/keratosis · 18 days ago

I wanted to share my additional ingredient to my routine . Niacinamide . I’ve been picking my skin and it’s getting more darker . Every night before I sleep - after shower and applying cream on the my body one drop and I massage Niacinamide serum to some areas that have dried up with darker spots . I saw a big difference and slight fading of discolorations . Was not able to take pictures but will take pictures from now on. Consistent is the key . So did some research about how Niacinamide would help our KP skin and like to share this to everyone .

Benefits of Niacinamide to Brighten Red Marks from Keratosis Pilaris Niacinamide is an excellent skincare ingredient that can help reduce red marks and improve the overall texture of skin affected by keratosis pilaris: • Reduces Redness & Soothes Skin: Calms irritated skin and reduces redness caused by keratosis pilaris.

•	Brightens & Evens Skin Tone: Helps fade discoloration and red marks, leading to a more radiant complexion.

•	Strengthens Skin Barrier: Boosts ceramide production to lock in moisture and protect skin.

•	Improves Skin Texture: Supports natural cell turnover for smoother, less bumpy skin.

•	Regulates Oil Production: Balances sebum to reduce irritation and promote clearer skin.

•	Minimizes Enlarged Pores: Creates a smoother skin surface by refining pores.

Best home remedies for keratosis pilaris

Key Considerations for Treating Keratosis Pilaris (KP)

  1. Moisturization: Keeping the skin hydrated can help soften the bumps. Look for thick creams or lotions containing urea, lactic acid, or glycolic acid.

  2. Exfoliation: Regular exfoliation can help remove dead skin cells. Consider using gentle exfoliating scrubs or chemical exfoliants (like AHAs or BHAs) a few times a week.

  3. Natural Oils: Oils such as coconut oil or jojoba oil can provide moisture and may help reduce the appearance of bumps.

  4. Apple Cider Vinegar: Diluted apple cider vinegar can be applied to the affected areas to help exfoliate the skin and balance pH levels.

  5. Aloe Vera: Known for its soothing properties, aloe vera can help calm irritated skin and may improve the appearance of KP.

  6. Diet and Hydration: Staying hydrated and maintaining a balanced diet rich in vitamins A, C, and E can support skin health.

Recommendations:

  • Exfoliating Scrubs: Use a gentle scrub with natural ingredients like sugar or oatmeal to avoid irritation.
  • Moisturizers: Look for products labeled as "non-comedogenic" to prevent clogging pores.
  • Patch Test: Always perform a patch test before trying new remedies to ensure you don’t have an adverse reaction.

While home remedies can be effective, they may take time to show results. If KP persists or worsens, consider consulting a dermatologist for professional treatments.
