I am sure this comes up alot, but are there any good horror movie / horror podcasts?
I have tried many but usually it is people who think they are far more funny or clever than they really are and act like they are watching half of the stuff they watch to talk shit about it and it is all about memes or how cool the hosts are.
I have been a horror fan for literally all of my life , I grew up on creature feature on saturday afternoons as well as Universal classics, Hammer classics , 60s, 70s, 80s all the way to new stuff.
I loved Movie Crypt until they started doing the Patreon half show here, rest for paid thing, also loved when Dee Schneider was hosting Fangoria radio on XM back in the day.
Anyone have suggestions?
There is a phenomenal British podcast called Evolution of Horror, with a host Mike who does themed seasons following the chronological release of movies, themes to date include Slashers/Zombies/Folk/Cosmic/Body/Vampires etc. There are hundreds of episodes (all over an hour) and you could jump in on any topic/movie that grabs you. He has great guests on for each episode who reappear across seasons and become very familiar which is lovely. There is also a Patreon if you want even more content which I dip in and out of depending on what content he is bring out.
Came here to post about EoH!
My favorite horror movie podcast.
The episodes on some of the more... extreme movies are great (well, everything's great). I've listened to the Martyrs ep and Trouble Everyday twice each... as I'm far to scared to see them.
It’s so gooooood! Went to the Ghostwatch screening last week!
Not listening to the new series yet- I discovered it when researching folk horror so listened to that; now I’ve gone back to the start. Just started Occult.
Got halfway through the Mind and Body Horror series this week based on your recommendation. Been loving revisiting all these movies and it's refreshing to hear such positive discussions around movies. Wish I knew about it during lockdown.
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far for EoH. Mike Muncer really is a fantastic host!
I’ve tried many horror podcasts, but when I finally found evolution of horror I unsubscribed from all others. Every episode features deep dive discussions with enthusiastic, knowledgeable guests, and they treat the genre seriously and with great respect. From the wide range of guests, I’ve also found some other interesting people to follow on social media. There is a paid Patreon feed with lots more content, but the regular free feed has plenty to keep you entertained and informed for months. Love EOH.
The No Sleep Podcast
Welcome to Nightvale
Old Gods of Appalachia
Spines
The faculty of horror
Dead Meat is pretty damn good for me lately
Second this one
Came here to say this
Only the first season though
:(
Ever since becoming a parent, I don’t really have as much time to watch and enjoy horror, movies, as I once did (sigh)
But, what I have been able to enjoy, is listening to horror podcasts.
I figured who better to ask than horror movie fans on what other horror media, such as podcasts, that they enjoy ! I’m also open to book recommendations as occasionally I still get to squeeze in some reading, or I can always get an audiobook
Thank you so much in advance!
-A spooky mom
The Magnus Archives, imo, is the highest quality horror fiction podcast out there. The network, Rusty Quill, has quite a few good shows. After The Magnus Archives I’d recommend Old Gods of Appalachia, The Silt Verses, and Malevolent.
Obligatory mention of the classics:
The Black Tapes, and Tannis. These shows are by the Pacific Northwest Stories network and they both start off super strong before really falling off hard in later seasons.
Someone must have been around at the start of that network that left or something, idk, but the quality drops off hard. Totally worth a listen though.
I’ve heard fantastic things about the Mr. Ballen podcast but haven’t listened yet myself.
Final mention: A Voice From Darkness;
This show is basically Coast to Coast AM (a real late night paranormal radio show) set in a world where the supernaturally is 100% real.
It’s pretty great imo, good balance of entertaining fun and actually creepy stuff, sadly the creators go on hiatus a lot. It’s been months since the last episode.
Speaking of which, I’d also recommend old Coast to Coast archives with Art Bell, specifically the Ghost to Ghost episodes. The Art Bell Tape Vault playlist on Spotify has them all.
Edit: Last Podcast on The Left is my absolute favorite podcast out there. It’s comedy, but the subject matter is true crime/cults/the paranormal.
I’d start with an episode on the more fun side, a ghost or cult episode (anything except The Anthill Kids or Children of God) as currently they’re covering the Chicago Rippers and it’s pretty brutal.
I loved the Black Tapes until it got closer to the end...at least >!what they ended on!<. I can't listen to any more pacific northwest podcasts because of it. >!i want a completed story!<
I have tried every horror podcast* that’s ever been recommended to me, but this is the only consistent. I never miss an episode. It’s top notch with a massive cast of actors and a big budget.
*Horror story podcasts. I generally can’t get into discussions about horror, genres, etc.
Yeah, the No Sleep Podcast really is top tier and IMO unmatched. It really is SO GOOD. Their production quality, scoring, actors, 👌🏻
I really enjoyed Alice isn’t dead.
Night Vale is fun too - easy to listen to when your wrangling kids. That’s more like x-files, I think I’d call it weird rather than horror.
For books, Draculas is what I’d recommend. It’s a completely fun, blood soaked romp by four horror authors.
Oooh! I almost forgot about Nightvale!
The others sound awesome too! I’ll check them out
Thank you!
Jeffery Cranor and Cecil Baldwin also host a horror podcast where they watch a horror movie and discuss. They select the movie by rolling a couple dice, one for the type of scare and one for the style of movie. It's called Random Number Generator Horror Podcast Number 9. I enjoy it.
Yes I have listened to many horror podcast but I have to agree NoSleep is the best. The narrators know how to tell a scary story. Also Horror stories from Youtube are quite good.
More horror for studying at The Spooky Scholars Podcast - https://creators.spotify.com/pod/show/spookyscholars
The Horror Survivor episodes are hilarious. Especially because I’m a huge survivor fan
Old gods of Appalachia, Magnus archives and Roanoke Falls are great for long form story telling. A couple anthologies I didn't see that are great are Horror Hill, Drew Bloods dark tales, nocturnal transmissions and Scare you to sleep.
Yes this is the best I’ve ever come across. I have literally listened to almost every episode ever put out! (I can’t stand listening to Christmas things any other time of the year so I have all the Xmas specials left for around the holidays each year). I also have kids and I can’t watch horror because they always want to watch the scary stuff so I can’t even put it on while they play or are distracted because alll they want to do is watch it (genetic? Lol). So this podcast is my life blood for getting a horror fix and getting through the dishes all without traumatizing my kiddos
This is a shameless self promo but a couple friends and I have a Horror/Comedy podcast that covers all kinds of spooky stuff! Check it out if you want
Just subscribed!
Last Podcast on the Left is a good one! It’s a mix of true crime and some spooky episodes with humor mixed in.
NoSleep is my absolute favorite.
Lore is interesting- not really horror but about different legends and, well, lore.
The Black Tapes is good too.
Went looking for some myself recently.
My Neighbors Are Dead: Comedy; ”Join host Adam Peacock as he talks to the lesser known characters from your favorite horror films.”
Homecoming: ”Homecoming won't feel like a horror story in the traditional sense. It's unsettling and strange, and that surrealism will almost surely affect you in some way, even if it doesn't make you jump out of your seat. The major draw to this podcast, though, is the cast: Oscar Isaac, Catherine Keener, and David Schwimmer are just a few of the stars who voice the story.” It's also now a TV series on Amazon Prime.
Alice Isn’t Dead: ”A truck driver searches across America for the wife she had long assumed was dead. In the course of her search, she will encounter not-quite-human serial murderers, towns literally lost in time, and a conspiracy that goes way beyond one missing woman.”
Knifepoint Horror: Stories
The Apex & The Abyss: True crime
Snap Judgement Presents: Spooked: Stories
Haunted Places: like Lore but with locations
Rabbits: ”When Carly Parker’s friend Yumiko goes missing under very mysterious circumstances, Carly’s search for her friend leads her headfirst into a ancient mysterious game known only as Rabbits.”
Inside the Exorcist: ”Mark Ramsey’s Inside series tells the stories behind some of cinema’s greatest films, including Psycho and Jaws. Each season is a must-listen in its own right, but 2017’s Inside The Exorcist is flat-out the scariest podcast that I’ve ever heard. The impeccable writing, performances — and crucially, the sound design by Jeff Schmidt — all come together for a storytelling experience that is emotionally riveting, and at times as terrifying as the William Friedkin movie itself. I listened to most of this podcast while I was home alone, which was a terrible mistake.”
Video Palace: ”Created by Nick Braccia and Michael Monello for the horror streaming service Shudder, the podcast follows a video collector named Mark Cambria who finds himself investigating “The White Tapes” — fabled VHS cassettes that, when watched, can drive the viewer insane. It mixes the retro nostalgia of Stranger Things with the technological paranoia of The Ring, and three episodes in it has already worked its way under my skin.”; Available to Shudder subscribers and weekly via Apple Podcasts
Archive 81: ”a found footage horror podcast about ritual, stories, and sound.”
Edit: almost forgot the newer one, Blackwood: ”Five years ago, Molly Weaver, Bryan Anderson, and Nathan Howell started a podcast focused on the local legend of a monster called The Blackwood Bugman. Quickly, the investigation grew out of their control, as they discovered that, not only are the legends seemingly true, many people in Blackwood have turned up dead or disappeared without a trace. Worse, there may be a reason why no one has ever uncovered the truth before. Someone is watching them, willing to do whatever it takes to keep the secret. Their recordings have finally been released.”
I started listening to Inside The Exorcist this morning at work—it’s really good! I got so invested I jumped at my desk. Thanks for sharing!
thanks for putting all the effort into this post! great stuff
It was just such a great question! I’m happy stumbling into this sub at the right time meant I could contribute somehow.
Thanks so much for putting a lot of work into this!
:-) Happy to help! Hope you find something you like; there’s so many other great suggestions here too!
If you like horror movies, I’m a huge fan of Shock Waves, Fear Frequency, and Post Mortem with Mick Garris.
I'd love to know if there's any horror movie/series podcast reviews.
My favorite is Up All Night (they're hysterical) and do great discussions of goospebumps etc.
I'd really like some new ones :) bonus if they're funny.
I would say Evolution of horror. Imho best horror podcast available right now.
I recently started from the beginning. Fascinating discussions and good guests!
This is the correct answer. Evolution of Horror is a great listen. Muncer and his guests really dig into the text, subtext, and themes in a way not many other horror podcasts do. Typically, in other horror podcasts, you get a scene-by-scene synopsis of the movie, some snarky jokes sprinkled in, a few quirky tidbits/trivia, etc. And that's fine on one level. But with Evolution of Horror, they really discuss in-depth how these movies are metaphors for other things, and how film conveys a larger meaning than just the manifest text. I learn so much listening to them.
Full disclosure: I also run a horror podcast called "Chopping It Up." We take two related films (either the same in a franchise, original/remake, or just two in the subgenre [e.g., zombie movies]) and we compare & contrast through lines and themes.
Random Number Generator Horror Podcast No. 9
By Cecil from Nightvale
Oooh they have a black mirror episode ! 100% following them now! Thank you so much
Check out the Welcome to Nightvale podcast too! I’d say it’s horror-adjacent. There’s 3 podcasts I listen to and these are two of those.
I came here to suggest it! Cecil Baldwin is always a delight
Too Scary, Didn’t Watch is a fun podcast that recaps movies.
Faculty of Horror does a deep dive on various horror movies from an academic/Feminist perspective.
good shout if you enjoy thematic discussions about film.
i know Dead Meat does them! i like james and chelsea a lot
Thank you! I followed it to check out later :)
New here and was just wondering if there was any good podcasts or YouTube channels that discuss or review a horror movie weekly? I usually watch or try to watch a new movie weekly if I can!
Not everyone's cup of tea, but my personal fave is an LGBT+ podcast hosted by two drag queens, The Boulet Brothers. It's called Creatures of the Night.
They review various horror films, shows, comics and books on their podcast. They also tell horror facts or stories from history in each episode.
Highly recommend Pod Mortem. They go through the movie scene by scene and talk about budget/how the movie came to be/how certain scenes were filmed/what the actors or directors have said in interviews. I think they do a really good job at appreciating each movie. I usually listen after I’ve seen the movie but I’ll also listen if I don’t want to watch the movie but want to know exactly what happened.
Another vote for Pod Mortem. Hosted by brother and sister, Travis and Renee, and Renee’s husband, JP. They have wonderful chemistry, and are highly entertaining. Worth listening just for Renee’s laugh.
Also recommend Pod Mortem! I love the way they can both appreciate movies and call out absurdities, and they’ll disagree with each other. They must do a lot of research before each episode because there are so many details they pull out from interviews and articles.
I also tend to listen right after having seen the movie, unless it’s for a movie I haven’t seen in a long time. They usually go into such great detail, it’s a nice way to relive a movie you don’t necessarily want to or have the time to rewatch.
Yep!!
Absolutely love these 3!
It’s a wonderful podcast. Takes up the majority of my boring mornings at my blue collar job.
I LOOOOOVE Pod Mortem! Nice long episodes, great takes, and the hosts have such a warm and genuine relationship!
Totally agree, love this podcast!!!
Too scary, didn’t watch is a horror movie recap show with three ladies. One of them loves horror movie, the other two are too scared to watch horror movies so she recaps it for them.
I love Too Scary, Didn’t Watch! I never thought I’d be a patreon member but it’s my favorite bill to pay!
Dead Meat/Dead Meat Presents
I love Dead Meat pod
Yes! I was going to suggest this too! My favorite horror YouTube Channel and their podcast is great!
I was looking for suggestions for horror podcasts. I love ones that dive deep into movies or even do a watch along and provide commentary. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks horror fam!
I love Faculty of Horror, it's a pretty academic look into horror films with a feminist leaning. I also love Nightmare on Film Street, it's a little less academic, but the two hosts are super enthusiastic about horror so they do a great job.
I listen to both I listen to both of these also. Too Scary, Didn’t Watch can be fun
I came in to suggest Faculty of Horror.
I also came to suggest Faculty lol
The Evolution of Horror! Examines the history of horror cinema, by sub-genre. Intelligent, lively and soothing analysis. Also Zobo With a Shotgun! Similar to EoH, but with more of a focus on more extreme films.
I like Evolution a lot. I can't really binge it, but it's something I can come back to consistently. Even when I disagree with Mike about a particular film, I always get a lot out of the discussions with his guests. His current series on Vampires has been great so far.
Evolution of Horror is the best.
The Dead Meat pod is good. They mix in plenty of humor to go with the reviews.
Yeah, if you don't like their reviews, that's fine, but give their more in depth episodes a chance. Chelsea does some great research. I recommend kids in horror episodes.
In Voorhees We Trust (with Gourley and Rust!) is one of my favorites!
This is a little off-piste but The Black Tapes podcast genuinely scared the bejeezus out of me. It's documentary style fiction about a journalist uncovering a series of mysterious black tapes which each have supernatural incidents captured on them. They're owned by a paranormal professor with a handsome cash prize for anyone who can provide him proof that ghosts exist.
It spins out from there. Genuinely creepy podcast.
Fair warning on this one, it is great, but there essentially is no ending. And the ending you do get is probably the worst ending I’ve ever experienced
Have been on a podcast binge lately. I really enjoy Dead Meat Podcast, The Evolution of Horror and Hack or Slash! What do you guys recommend? Anything on Spotify works for me! :) thank you horror fanatics! Happy Friday!
If you dig Evolution of Horror then check out Drunken Horror! Hilarious and great conversation and it features some of the folks that appear on EoH including Mike Muncer!
Oh rad! Thanks for this!
The Magnus Archives!
The Magnus archives is god tier, horror, podcast
As a fellow MA fan, you should check out SAYER
As a fellow MA/SAYER fan, you should try The Silt Verses.
Post Mortem with Mick Garris.
Spooked
I looove Spooked!
Werewolf Ambulance
Screams After Midnight
Scared Boys
I'm subscribed to literally 30 horror movie podcasts right now but these 3 are easily my favorites. I prefer a less serious approach that focuses less on facts and history and more on the love of watching horror movies as fans.

Your Horror Show - This a full cast show that does a Halloween special every year. Really fun stories. Very similar to Tales from the Crypt.
Omnious Thrill - Dark fiction. Like Black Mirror meets American Horror Story. Amazing sound design and actors.
Classic Ghost Stories Podcast - Tony Walker
This guy narrates classic ghost stories; he's got talent as a voice actor, so he makes them sound scary.
Uncanny
I'm sure you were familiar with it, but for those who are not, can you describe a little bit more about what the format for this podcast is?
Is it in English, I'm guessing? Was it audio only or is there a YouTube for visuals also? Where are the hosts from? Is it just a single host or is it a group? Is this a fiction or audio drama podcast or is it non-fiction?
Is it about paranormal things, is it about ghost stories, is it about supposed true stories?
"Japan Makes me Scared" is a great collection of narrated horror stories from Japan!
for some reason I can't access this on podbean , podcast addicts or pocket casts
You've probably already found it but if not, here is the link for pocket cast https://pca.st/podcast/6d36b9d0-b214-013c-c510-0aec82e01c75
Monsters Among Us: call in show covering all supernatural events, from ghosts, to UFOs, to cryptids. Feels very reminiscent of the old Coast to Coast radio show.
Jim Harold's Campfire: very similar vibe to Monsters Among Us, but Jim will often have a back and forth with the guest, rather than just a voicemail call in.
Scared to Death: husband and wife taking turns telling each other scary, supposedly true stories. Dan's are great narratives, but often come across as creepypasta. Lynze's feel more like listener emails and more authentic. Both are great storytellers and there's something for everyone. They have great chemistry, surprise surprise.
Belief Hole: brothers who get together and tell spooky stories of paranormal, UFOs, and general high strangeness. Not as regular of uploads as the above posts, but their production value is great and there's a good back catalogue to go through.
Sightings: this one is a new discovery of mine, but it is incredible. It's only about a year old, but it should honestly be a top podcast. Each episode, they briefly go over the topic before one of the hosts does a dramatic reading of haunting, abduction, cryptid sighting, whatever it may be that week. The guy's vocal work is amazing, and the production value is about as good as you'll get from a podcast.
I’m so torn on Belief Hole! The podcast is genuinely very well done, but they follow some sketchy people on the official podcast IG (Steven Crowder, Jordan Peterson etc). I started to notice their beliefs reflected in the way they talk about the more conspiratorial topics. It’s a shame because I love high strangeness and there aren’t as many pods that cover these stories vs. generic cryptids
What is everyone’s favorite horror movie/ horror stories/ horror talk in general podcasts being made this year? My favorites that I listen to now are The Horror Daddies and Deadmeat. Both are great! I’ve listened to them all though so any recommendations are great! Thanks guys🖤
Edit: thank you so so much everyone! Saving thins post and every comment I’ll save to listen and check out! Thank you again!💕💕 my favorite community for a reason!
Faculty of Horror! Always my go to for solid horror film discussion.
The No Sleep Podcast.
I started listening to No Sleep after I finished The Magnus Archives because I wanted more of the vibe of a single narrator telling a horror story. No Sleep does the job but FWIW I liked The Magnus Archives a lot more.
The first few seasons might be just one narrator but as this podcast got more popular it is completely immersive. Music, sound effects, a whole fleet of voice actors and a lot of episodes feature more than one per story. It is my favorite podcast. Every year they have an event at The Stanley Hotel where they perform live.
There are multiple voice actors for the stories! Very immersive. I have tried other horror podcasts and nothing compares to this one- for horror stories.
Evolution of Horror is without a doubt the best horror podcast I know about
i stopped listening when they had a guest that tried to cancel Rocky Horror Picture Show; and for the Alien episode a guest that saw it for the first time two days before the show. hilarious.
Begging you to check out Knifepoint Horror.
In fact, that goes for everyone else too, since I didn’t see it mentioned yet!
Possession, Staircase, Laborer, The Copper Cup, and Impound are some favourite episodes, just in case anyone needs an in...
Knifepoint horror has been one of my favorites since ages ago!! I love it so much
Too Scary; Didn’t Watch is my favorite
It’s like one or two of the women are big horror fans and the other two aren’t and get the films described to them as they watch through and talk about them
I second Too Scary; Didn't Watch! The only thing I dislike is the lengthy intros before they get to the movie recap. I want them to get to the point, so I forward to the trivia/recap sections.
Hello guys! For the past 2 years I've been really into podcasts. I mainly listened to horror Focused ones like Magnus archives, Parkdale haunt, and Malevolent. I know there are alot of horror podcasts out there but im having trouble finding some that are still very plot driven. Although I do enjoy scary stories I want there to be some plot or something the characters are working towards. I hope this makes since but does anyone have any suggestions? I would truly appreciate it!
I think our analog/cosmic horror podcast, Forbidden Cassettes: Consummation, would be a good fit. We just released the season 1 finale, so it’s a complete listen.
Here’s a synopsis:
Dov Kandel has spent the better part of two decades exposing vast government conspiracies and exploring unsettling paranormal phenomena on his popular, late-night talk radio program, KANDEL AGAINST THE DARK. After interviewing thousands of callers and guests, he’s certain he’s heard it all. His next guest will prove him wrong.
Author and investigator Orson Libretti has joined Dov for an unprecedented two-night discussion to promote his new novel, CONSUMMATION. It is an apocalyptic tale of cosmic horror.
But for Orson, this is no ordinary book tour. Defying his publisher’s demands that the book be marketed as fiction, he insists that it is based on actual events — a cataclysmic chain reaction that annihilated a parallel universe.
A questionable claim, to be sure, if he didn’t have the tapes to prove it.
This podcast was awesome. So atmospheric, there’s a constant feeling of dread with very little let up. Incredibly well written and acted. In case you can’t tell I loved it and I really would love to hear more from the creators.
So glad to hear that you enjoyed it! I’ll share your kind words with the team.
We have a ton more planned for the FC universe(s). Just have to figure out how to fund it. This season took about 4 years and thousands of hours (shoutout to co-creator and voice of Jack, u/coquinbuddha, for taking on the brunt of the production work). In the meantime we’re releasing a bunch of expanded/bonus content on our Patreon, some of which is available to non-subscribers.
I’m a co-creator and play Orson, btw. (:
Sounds good I'll give it a listen!
Try wormwoodshow.com ! Wonderful writing , delightful banter , full cast audio , & a flavor of old school radio plays (but not over the top) i highly recommend it!
This sounds really cool, I'm gonna check it out. Cheers for the recommendation
Great! Would love to hear your thoughts when you’re done. (:
It’s SO GOOD! It sounds like I’m listening to an Actual RADIO SHOW. 🎉
I'd second The White Vault. Also The Silt Verses, Lovecraft Investigations and Old Gods of Appalachia.
r/werealive ; lots of episodes, all connected in some way and plot driven
