TL;DR The Hyundai Sonata and Genesis are highly recommended, with the Sonata being praised for its reliability and comfort, while the Genesis offers a more luxurious experience.
Hyundai Sonata
The Hyundai Sonata is frequently mentioned as a reliable and comfortable sedan. Owners have reported high satisfaction with their Sonatas, even after many miles. For example, one user shared that their 2018 Sonata SE lasted over 300,000 miles [4:1]. Another user praised their 2016 Sonata Sport 2.0T for its looks and durability, noting that it has aged well compared to other models
[3:1]. However, some users have experienced engine issues, which Hyundai has addressed under warranty
[4:2].
Hyundai Genesis
The Genesis is another popular choice among Hyundai sedans, offering a more luxurious experience. It is often compared favorably to the Sonata, with several users recommending it for those willing to spend a bit more for additional features and a more refined driving experience [5:3],
[5:8]. One user specifically mentioned the Lambda 3.8 engine in the Genesis as a better option than the Theta II engine found in some other Hyundai models
[5:5].
Considerations for Tall Drivers
For taller drivers, such as those around 6'2" or taller, both the Sonata and Genesis have been noted for their comfortable seating. A user who is 6'4" found the seats in their 2016 Sonata GLS comfortable, although they preferred an older model overall [5:1]. Another user, who is 6'0", also reported comfort in their 2017 Sonata Sport
[5:2].
Engine and Reliability Concerns
While the Sonata and Genesis are generally well-regarded, there have been concerns about engine reliability, particularly with the Theta II engine. Some users have experienced engine failures, but Hyundai has been proactive in addressing these issues through replacements and warranties [4:2],
[5:4]. It's advisable to consider the engine type when choosing a Hyundai sedan to ensure long-term reliability.
Volvo. Don’t even talk about BMW, I don’t know what paint-eater they are letting design the cars around there.
Current three series looks good tho, the regular not the M variant
Looking at the M3 now, it honestly looks fine. I couldn’t give less of a shit about the beaver teeth, most petrol heads will probably still be semi-excited seeing one in the wild.
Every time I see a new BMW I shake my head. Every time I see a new 7 series my bowels catastrophically empty
To me 7 Series looks awesome, idk why
I’ve been completely desensitized to ugly cars, in fact i sorta like them
Audi. At least they still have their own identity. I can easily confuse Volvos with other cars, same with 90% of new shit on the road
The new Prius is a beautiful car. It's a statement that I would have never believed I'd say even half a decade ago.
Every time I see one, my eyes stay on it longer than they do for many other cars.
Meh. It's not my cup of tea, but the current generation of Prius isn't bad looking. At the very least, I don't see it and think 'dweeb."
I don't mnow that I would call the prius a sedan.
Rr is already dead. Hopefully bmw will be next. This is coming from a bmw owner.
Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing
Honda Civic Si (pre face-lift IMO)
Volvo S60
Audi RS7
No particular order.
Hell, I'd throw in the normal civic sport, too. That's how much I like the look of it.
I am looking to buy a compact sedan soon (in about a month) and just have been looking into different brands and models. The following are the three I am interested in. It would be great if someone can weigh in on their opinions and/or personal experience.
- Honda Civic 2.0L 4D LX (2023) - Great car overall, obviously very durable, interior is pretty generic. Not sure about what prices the dealers are going to ask as well. I am not buying it right now and seems to be out of stock (with a few in transit) to my local dealers. One also said they are not going to be re-stocking these.
- Mazda3 Sedan (2023) - Looks premium (both interior and exterior), however low on space in the back seats and trunk. Some issues with engine reliability. Also not in stock at my local dealers (only the carbon edition, which is a bit above my budget).
- Hyundai Elantra SEL (2023) - Saw great reviews on this car, with great fuel economy, and nice interiors. The only thing bugging me about this is theft and probable engine reliability issues (based on some Hyundai models). Although this is a push to start, I am afraid someone might break in before realizing that. But overall it seems to be a great car.
This is also going to be my first car purchase, and I will be going to a dealership alone. I am not looking for a really long-term car, probably <4-5 years before getting another. My budget now is ~25K. Any additional suggestions will also help. Thanks to everyone who chimes in!
Corolla LE 2023 with convenience package. Wireless Apple CarPlay + USB C ports. Best fuel economy in it’s class for gas mileage.
I’d also wait for a Mazda 3 2024 as their base model will now have standard blindspot monitoring etc.
The civic is nice but doesn’t give you that much features for the money compared to it’s competitors/price range. Very bare bones
Thanks, definitely will check out the corolla as others have suggested as well!
I think the Corolla deserves a mention here, but you pretty much summed everything up pretty well already.
The civic is a best seller they will be getting more
The Mazda is nice with the current market many dealers are not buying many of the base level ones, I think it will be impossible to find a base model Mazda 3
They Hyundai theft issue is fixed on new ones
What city are you near?
What’s your budget
What’s on the odometer?
That's the big tell.
Really is. Hyundai disappointed with there common engine issues hopefully mines don't do a 360 on me and start burning oil or seize up out of no where.
145,101 all highway miles did alot of trips throughout the states & Canada twice with it
Sweet! My 2012 2.0T hit 200k a few weeks ago. I think the body style like yours is the best looking of all.
No joke this is one of the best aging models out there. Second only to an Accord or BMW 3/5 series.
Edit: speaking strictly of looks. Don’t at me.
I can agree with you on that.
Just a little appreciation post for my 15 Sonata SE...she was my dream car. Would definitely buy again....can't wait to come back home to Hyundai lol
I have a 2016 Sonata just had Hyundai replace my engine at 125,000 miles , as engine lost power on the way home one evening “went limp” got it home slowly took straight to mechanic towed it to dealership and got a call a week later saying needed a new engine it was taken care of by Hyundai and got me in a rental until it was fixed !!! Running smooth , I did however pay for a hose/belt replacement package $594 to make sure it was all as new as possible!!! I can truly say Hyundai stands by its products !!! I’m also a victim of the triple pearl white paint so waiting to see if they will cover a new paint job as well starting chipping 2 years into me having it and had 2 previous ownners who had no issues!!! Praying they can get it fixed as well !!! I love my car !!!
I have the 17 and your car looks very close to mine. I bought it with 68,000 mi and I have put about 800 mi on it and I have loved every second of it.
ROCK ON SONATA GANG.
Yessss the same generation
How many and what have you owned?
This was my first. She's a Sonata. Im ready to buy another one.
Ah, I was fooled by the "was your dream car". Surely it still is! :-)
And it's great that you are satisfied with it. Just in the more general sense, "best car ever owned" provides more information if we know what cars weren't as good.
I had the 15 limited. The car was so comfortable and i loved the look and features
Yesssss!! That car was so roomy. I want that back. New engine and all. Engine went shortly after this Pic was taken. Had it replaced and drove another 100k miles on it
Had a 2015 too new as a company car back then, loved it as well. :)
That's crazy the engine went that fast. Toyota engines last for 15+ years
And you think it’s okay to be putting motors in when they die so freaking
Had a 18 Sonata Se and that car lasted over 300k miles. It’s parked outside my house rn waiting for a new engine. Drove it over 270k in 3 years and honestly it’s the best car I’ve ever owned and it’s my first car too.
I have a 2017 Sonata Sport. The seats are comfortable for me. I'm about 6'0. I'm 29 y.o male if that's needed.
The Genesis is truly a much nicer car for a little bit more.
For my money I’d go for the Genesis. I will not touch another Hyundai with a Theta II engine.
41, 6’4” and 2016 Sonata GLS.
Not my favourite car ever (2008 Sonata forevah) but it does the job.
I definitely wouldn’t pay $20k for a six year old car but if you’re interested, I’ll sell you mine for $15k lol
Lol I’d rather pay an extra 5k for all the features the limited comes with
I'll do 14k for a way better looking one lol...
Get the genesis
Chevy ss sedan
1998-2011 Ford Crown Victoria. I adore how it looks, I love the engine, and I love its legacy.
it's nice but probably the worst pantherbody. Grand Marquis, Marauder, and the holy Lincoln Town Car are nicer imo
The Crown Victoria, blessed be her name, is either your favorite or least-favorite car. Depends on which side of the light bar you were on I suppose.
1990 ford crown Vic...for the same reasons as this guy⬆️
Technically, the Lincoln Blackwood. It's got a 3 box design and a trunk therefore it's a sedan.
What does that make the F-150 then?
A big sedan with a bed.
Yeah last time I checked that's a truck. Try again
Volkswagen Phaeton W12
I miss that car
1974 Dodge Monaco
It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got the cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. A model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas
Magreregalo kaming magkakapatid sa pinsan namin. Gusto niya sedan at ayaw daw niya ng chinese cars. At budget lang namin eh hanggang 1M. Bawal lumagpas. Hahaha. Anong marerecommend niyo na pang matagalan sana. Thanks sa mga sasagot
Edit. Salamat mga boss sa sagot. Dahil majority ng sagot e vios and city, ipa test drive namin sakanya para magkaalaman na agad. Hehe. Thanks ulit
If Brand New the Honda CIty comes to mind.
Kaya ba ng 1M to boss? Kasi nagcheck kami kahapon parang ang mahal. Hehe
Pag ber months may 100k+ discount Honda. V below 1M, RS slightly above 1M.
Check niyo Honda City S Variant, nasa 998k SRP.
City, vios or mirage lang choice mo diyan.
Honestly... Just go for the safe options and buy a Honda City or Toyota Vios. Or if you're not one too fond of features, Mitsubishi Mirage G4.
They won't impress anyone, sure. But they always just get the job done.
sans all may pinsan na rich! 👍
Wow! Pwedeng mag-apply as pinsan? 🤣 kidding aside, honda city or toyota vios.
Dodge Attitude
I've had real good experiences with Hyundai, but it appears that some people on the internet don't.
What's your opinion about the brand? Do you think they make good cars?
My 2012 Elantra with 174K has been very reliable as far as engine and transmission go , but electrical stuff starts messing up with age. ie. bad wiring causes left brake light to go out every 2 months, USB port doesn’t work anymore. Could just be my experience though.
I agree with most people here, Korean cars have really stepped up over the past few years. Yet the reputation hasn't caught up, so the prices are pretty good and they seem to depreciate quickly.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, quality seems at or around that of Honda(I know, some of you would slap me for this claim) , but not Toyota quality, yet. But they are getting there.
Check out this video that talks about the rise of Korean cars.
Twenty years ago, the Koreans were building junk. But today, they’re making some really nice vehicles with great reputations. So your question really depends on how old of a Hyundai you are looking at.
I'm not exactly looking for a Hyundai, I was just looking for answers. You see, my aunt has a Hyundai Verna that has never given any troubles and it got abused like you wouldn't believe (it even served as a heavy cargo vehicle several times. But I've seen plenty of people on the internet complaining about their reliability, which confused me a bit.
You will find every single car company on the internet with tons of complaints.
Well, that’s because people on the internet are assholes.
Dpends on the year.
They have bold designs but still hit and miss quality, especially with catching on fire. The Theta II engines 2.4l and 2.0T (used from 2009 until 2020) have engine fire recalls and now Kia/Hyundai just started a recall this month for ABS modules that catch fire too.
I absolutely love my new Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited. It far surpasses all the other SUV hybrids in this price range. Believe me, I drove them all. Quiet ride, excellent acceleration, beautiful interior - I got the light gray-and exterior is Amazon Gray. I have is one week and already getting great milage both highway and local driving. I traded in my 2018 Sonata for this one. Took a long time to find since they sell out quick. Did not get any deals or incentives as people pay above sticker price. I got if for sticker price despite a lot of bargaining. Oh well, nicest car I have owned since my 1996 Lexus RX 300.
Hyundai’s make good fucking cars fr
I think the Hybrid Limited is the best SUV under 40K by a wide margin. How are the seats?
Very comfortable. Front seats deep enough to go under knee. Heated and ventilation. Beautiful light gray off white leather. Trim black. Wish back of seats were not plastic but that is in all Hyundai cars.
I found the seat not too comfortable. It's less cushiony. But my only complain is not having a HUD. Coming from civic, digital speed is a must. The cube gauge cluster doesn't look good like kia dynamic theme.
2022 Tucson is a huge step up from previous offerings. Picked one up on Saturday
What mpg average are you getting?
I do a lot of driving on highways. About 90 miles round trip daily but it also includes some local. I get 33 MPG so far but I love that I can control how it recharges the battery by slowing down and breaking and that in SMART mode I do get a lot of EV driving.
Congrats! But why does it say "Processing img s7otrl4pjg171..." at the bottom of your post?
I am trying to post photo
