TL;DR
Shark Steam Mops
Shark steam mops are frequently praised for their effectiveness and lightweight design. Users have noted that Shark's steam mops perform much better than their vacuums, making them a popular choice for those seeking a reliable steam mop [1:1]. The Shark Genius model is particularly favored for its ability to clean tile floors without leaving residue
[3:4]. Additionally, the Shark 2-in-1 Blast and Scrub model offers versatility with detachable handles and various attachments for different cleaning tasks
[4:1].
Bissell Steam Mops
Bissell steam mops are another strong contender, with models like the Symphony Pet Steam Mop providing dual functionality by combining vacuuming and steaming [3:7]. This model is appreciated for saving time and thoroughly cleaning floors. The Bissell SteamShot is also recommended for its handheld convenience, allowing users to clean surfaces beyond just floors
[3:5]. Professional cleaners have praised the Bissell 2685A for its portability and range of attachments, making it suitable for various cleaning tasks
[4:2].
Considerations for Use
While steam mops can be highly effective, it's essential to ensure compatibility with your flooring type. Some users have reported issues with steam mops damaging certain floor finishes if left in one spot for too long or used on unsuitable surfaces [2:5],
[5:4]. It's advisable to keep the mop moving and use distilled water to prevent mineral buildup, which can damage the device
[5:3].
Additional Options
For those looking for alternatives to steam mops, some users recommend dry microfiber mops or spin mops for wet cleaning [5:2]. These options might not provide the same level of sanitization as steam mops but can be more convenient for quick cleaning tasks.
Budget can be $$$
For LVP and tiled flooring in a small urban multi story space. Would need something that’s light weight and slim. I was dissuaded from buying a vacuum mop so decided to go with just a steam mop. Thanks for recommendations
For light mopping, I think you should check Shark steam mops. They offer corded & cordless options, perfect for small spaces. Both lightweight & easy to store.
Good luck.
I had a Light N Easy steam that just died after 6 years. I didn’t know it but apparently it was made by Shark .

So just to preface, we HATE shark vacuums in this sub… but I will say I’ve bought this Shark Steam Mop and I love it! Their mops are 10x better than their vacuums… and you can’t beat this one for the price!
About to buy one one these off Amazon. Wondering if it's worth it? Do I offer this as a service and charge for it? Or does it make my life easier and make it worth it in general? Do people not prefer this in their home?
Give me all the details and suggestions or let me know if I'd be wasting my money and efforts!
*I'm doing a deep clean next week and thought it might be really handy **kinda just want it for my own use as well!
Looks like I'm taking the steam mop out of my Amazon cart🤣. Thank you everyone for the honest replies. It sounds like another kitchen appliance that ends up taking up space. Good for some things but overall not worth it.
I love my steam mop. I've been using it in my business for 10+ years and have never had a client complain that it ruined their floors. Nor have a noticed any damage from it in houses I've been cleaning for several years.
I dont use it on older wood floors, but any well sealed, treated hard floors, laminate, tile...
I think people have issues with it when they turn it on and leave it in one place too long. You just have to keep it moving, obviously holding on one spot of the floor will warp it EVENTUALLY. also you will be safer using it on low-medium vs high mode
Which one do you have?
I have a Genius (Shark brand)
No. I have one client who prefers I use her steam mop. Every once in a while, I use my spin mop (she's okay with this) and I pick up so much more dirt. Even a week later, the floor is residually cleaner when I steam mop again.
Also steam mops will ruin the finishes on many floors SO easily. Even if you're careful.
Which spin mop do you recommend?
I use O-Cedar. You need to be careful though because super hot water in it can leave heat marks on some floors through the bucket. I put it on rags to insulate it from the floor.
A lot of cleaners here do not like steam mops - especially because they can be a liability. Be very careful if you decide to use one.
That said - I love the new steam mop I recently got for work. It’s not a brand I typically like but it was the only steam mop that had all the features I was looking for (hand steamer option w/ glove & crevice tools).
What brand did you purchase?
Black and Decker. Overall it's good actually and I don't have to depend on my maid all the time. It can clean windows, tile, granite, marble walls, floors, cooking range. It's like a total package.
Always check whether the surface is suitable for steam application or not. It's very hot actually so be careful.
If you have tile
I've been seeing posts from this sub on my feed and I can kind of relate. I'm on a slow, slow, neverending journey of decluttering, but after a humid summer everything is kind of moldy and gross.
I checked out this: https://www.unfuckyourhabitat.com/ufyh-top-tens/?pagenum=1 and I'm not going to get a bunch of things on it -- I'm a very old-fashioned broom and dust rag or sponge gal, with bleach for the toilets and very, very rare use of other cleaning products -- but the steam mop sounds great. I'm hoping to use in on my stovetop, which can get pretty nasty, and on the shower stall which is my least favorite thing in the world to clean, not counting the tub and surround, which is my real least favorite.
Anyway, thanks for all the inspiration here!
I have a steam mop that vacuums and steams at the same time.
However, it is too heavy to put on the stove at clean counters/stove with it. It works well on floors. I'm not sure if you can clean other things with it?
ETA: I did the google and found that they make handheld units for this purpose. I love it for my floor, so I might buy a handheld unit as well.

I looked around for one that would do both, and not cost me too much because I'm not sure how much I'll really use it. Here's the one I got: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BNMVMCK1/
Oh, that's a really reasonable price! Good to know they make detachable ones. I use the floor stamp/vacuum weekly as we have all hardwood floors throughout the house and tile on bathroom floors. I also have a housecleaner that comes once a month, so it saves her time to do both at same time. It also tackles the worst room to clean.. the bathroom!
Please check back in and let us know how it works.

I have a shark steam mop. I used to use a traditional mop. Then i swapped over to a wet dry swiffer but it leaves residue and makes the floor more dirty. I got a steam mop with spare pads and OMFG. Drastic change. The floor is SO clean.
I concur. Very clean! I had to get rid of mine because we have 100 year old wood floors that can't use that no but it came free with our vacuum so I tried it before I gave it to a friend
Yes yes yes yes yes! I have a Shark steam mop for my tile floors. I got a separate handheld Bissell steam shot steam cleaner for everything else. I am of similar mind as you in the realm of not a ton of cleaning products. The steam mop is the greatest purchase I've made so far.
For things like stovetops, a handheld steamer is easier to use, cheaper, and lighter. But get a brand name--there are a lot of crappy ones out there. I like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Bissell-39N7V-Surface-Steam-Cleaner/dp/B07V39L623/ref=sr_1_4?crid=P2FBBYQH6LQN&keywords=bissell+steamer+for+cleaning&qid=1698617276&s=home-garden&sprefix=bissel+steamer%2Cgarden%2C83&sr=1-4

I saw that when I was looking around but I'm going to try the combo-thingy first and see how that goes. I'll keep it in mind.
I have one and I love it, it’s my second one.
Bissell 2685A. I’m a professional housecleaner and I love the portability of this mop. It breaks down, can be used with/without the extensions, has grout attachments and so much more. I seriously love it!

I've had my Shark steam 2-in-1 Blast and Scrub for years and love it.
I believe the exact model is discontinued, but they make similar models.
I like it because in addition to using it as a steam mop, you can detach the handle and it came with several attachments to use it as a steam cleaner in other ways with the various attachments.
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a new steam mop, and I'm hoping to get some recommendations from the experts. I have a variety of flooring in my home, including tile, hardwood, and linoleum, so I need a mop that can handle all of them. I'm also looking for a mop that is easy to use and cleans effectively.
I've done some research online, but I'm still feeling a bit overwhelmed. There are so many different steam mops on the market, and it's hard to know which one is right for me.
So, I'm turning to you, my fellow forum members. What is the best steam mop that you recommend? What are some things to look for when choosing a steam mop? And what are some of your favorite features of the steam mop that you use?
Thanks in advance for your help!
I use a dry microfiber mop, usually a Bona or old O-Cedar mop.
For wet mopping, I love my O-Cedar Spin Mop, but it's bulky and heavy, so it's not as convenient as a Swiffer.
I recently bought a mop to wash walls, but I've started using it for quick floor mopping too. It's been great so far, but I don't know if it can replace my spin mop yet.
We had a Hahn steam mop that lasted for two years, even though I always used a diluted vinegar solution in the water reservoir. We think it died from the heavy minerals in our well water. We got a newer red model, which had a better mop head and was easy to use, but it only lasted for two months before dying from the minerals as well. We sent it back for a replacement under warranty, and they have so far been true to their word. We will use distilled water in the future to prevent this from happening again. I wish I could offer a non-hard water experience, but alas.
__
I prefer my steam mop. No disposable pads or solutions or whatever else to buy, and no buckets to deal with.
Steam mops are not compatible with all floor types, but they are compatible for the tile I have
We have a Bissell hard floor cleaner. It’s just like an upright vacuum and sucks up the water as it cleans.
Works really well for us - we live in Washington state where it’s always wet and muddy and we have a Labrador.

In conclusion, a steam mop can be a worthwhile investment if you prioritize effective sanitization, convenience, and eco-friendliness in your cleaning routine. However, it's essential to weigh the benefits against the potential drawbacks, particularly regarding cost, floor compatibility, and maintenance requirements, to determine if it's the right choice for you.
I have experience with both Karcher and Bissell steam mops, and I find them excellent choices. Priced at approximately $200 each, they are user-friendly, dependable, and excel at tackling tough floor cleaning tasks. In my opinion, they rank among the top choices available.
I swear by steam mops for pet hair! My old mop never seemed to pick it all up, but the steam loosens it and the microfiber pad traps it. If you have pets, consider a mop with a detachable handheld steamer. It's perfect for spot-cleaning upholstery and refreshing curtains.
One of the main reasons I favor steam mops is their zero landfill impact. We've become far too accustomed to the mindset of "just throw it away," without considering the consequences.
If your budget is limited, you'll find that anything from Bissell or Shark will suffice. However, if you're willing to spend over $200, the options open up considerably.
For me, the biggest drawback of steam mops is the wait time for reheating. If you have a large house, you might spend more time waiting than cleaning. I recently saw a mop that heats up continuously, which might be a game-changer! Anyone have experience with those?
Need something under 200 dollars that is easy to use, easy to setup, and reliable.
Just got the PurSteam steam mop 10-in-1 last month and it's pretty awesome. Super easy to use and works great on different surfaces.
Love that it cleans without chemicals and dries fast.
Plus, it’s under $100. Definitely a solid buy!
Edit: I found a review that pretty much sums up my thoughts, especially the pros and cons, I've added the link.
Bissеll 2685A. I’m a profеssional housеclеanеr and I lovе thе portability of this mop. It brеaks down, can bе usеd with/without thе еxtеnsions, has grout attachmеnts and so much morе. And you can also chеck thе stеam mops rеcommеndеd by rеddit usеrs list

Just got the Bissell Power Steamer 3-in-1 at home and it's a game changer for cleaning floors. Super versatile, not just a steam mop but also turns into a handheld steam cleaner. Blasts through dirt and grime, and it's chemical-free.
Hands down the Bissell 1940 is great, but no pressure to get it!
Shark steam mop
The Shark model with different attachments is great. One attachment steam cleans upholstery stains and another is great for sanitizing counter tops.

I love my Shark Klik n Flip. I've had several different ones from other brands that just didn't do the job (looking at you Vax mop...). The Klik n Flip heats quickly, is easy to maneuver and the cleaning pad stays put.
I'm seeing a theme of others recommending different shark mops, looks like you maybe can't go wrong with that brand.
I'm noticing that too. I'll definitely check those brands out. Thanks
Love my Shark Genius. Three years and going strong. Used 1-2 times a week on tile, rubber gym mats, and LVP
Tell me more about using it on LVP. I’d love to do it since we have LVP in 95% of our house but the manufacturer recommended a against it. I’m worried the heat from the steam will damage it.
Mine has three settings, low, medium and high. I use medium almost exclusively on LVP and have had no issue.
I did have friends who left theirs on and in one place for a few minutes while distracted. That did melt the particular plank of LVP, so I’m guessing that’s why they issue the warnings. I never leave mine in place while powered on.
I have a Shark lift away that has been going strong for at least 10 years now. It has attachments for garments, above floor surfaces, and a glider for rugs. I spent about $50 at Big Lots for it and have never regretted it.
That's insane. Only 50. 10 years?? I need to give them a shot if I don't like the one I just ordered which is a Bissel 2685A
Overall I've felt I've gotten my money's worth from their products. I have an older cordless hand vacuum with a few attachments one being a "beater bar/brush roller" thing that I just can't live without. It's light, strong, and long lasting so I can do all the stairs or the entirety of my living room couches without fatigue on my part or the batteries. I just got the vacmop which has made daily cleaning up of my hard floors so easy. I sound like a commercial, lol but the products I have from them ai live and have become my most used cleaning items.
The key with a steam mop is to use only distilled water. Tap water will leave mineral deposits and shorten the life of the mop.
Interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks for the tip. Can you add a fragrance to it?
I just ordered a Bissel 2685A
I have never tried fragrance. I have a Bissell too. Alas, I replaced some flooring with LVP, so now I only use the steam mop on my one bathroom with ceramic tile.
I have read so many mixed reviews on different brands out there. I don't want to waste money on one that doesn't last more than 6 months. I have tile floors.
Respond with your favorite brands :)
I have a Shark and love it.
