I use Nord with an obfuscated server. Works extremely well, no deterioraton of quality at all, at least not visible to the eye. They allow 10 devices. I'm very pleased with it.

Before that I was Unlimited VPN which seemed to be outdated and lacking all kinds of the newer features you see with Nord/Express. Service was ok, but not great for video.

Definitely. For re-getting someone over I'd say it was one of the best promos ever. Before that Christian was just kinda the boring guy stood behind Jurassic Express. I had respect for him due to nostalgia but it kinda felt like he was phoning it in on a retirement tour. That promo changed things entirely and set him off on the legendary run he's been on the last few years.

The peak of that gimmick was on the Wrestledream Zero Hour where a camera just cut to him smiling when Inoki's sons were in the ring accepting an award for their father.

Switching mics wouldn't help much, you have a really good mic/interface combination already. What you need to learn is how to tune the mic. A $500 mic like the SM7b won't come pre tuned, and you will most likely have the same issues with it as the Pod Mic. Having a good noise gate and compressor is really the way to go. Either you do it in OBS or are able to process it before OBS.

For my setup I use a FiFine K688 in USB mode, and use Elgato Wavelink for sound routing and processing. So I use a UAD 1176 Fet Compressor and Elgatos own Noise Removal for background noise. The UAD compressor is more for my nerdy tweaks, Elgato have a good compressor in Wavelink already.

Add a limiter in OBS and set it for -10 or -15. This will make absolutely sure she doesn’t peak or clip. Just make sure to have it at the end of your filters and not the beginning or somewhere in the middle.

Another suggestion would be adjusting the gain lower on the interface, and then adding a gain filter in OBS as the first filter after her EQ and compression to bring the volume back up. She should be aiming for somewhere between the top of the green and middle of the yellow for normal speaking volume.

As for the mic, I think the Podmic is perfectly fine. The MV7 would add a little bit of a darker tone to her voice, but unless she’s having big problems with the high end being too harsh, I wouldn’t switch mics and this is always something that could possibly be fixed with some EQ to tame those harsher frequencies.

It sounds like the issue isn’t her stretching the limits of the mic. It’s her hitting the limitations of digital audio. A signal will distort when it gets too loud.

There are two different things that need to be done here. First, adjust the gain when she’s talking loudly.

Second, is to apply some dynamics processing. A compressor needs to be used to help tamp down when things start getting a little too loud. Then, add a limiter as an emergency backup.

Filters and adjusting the gain will help with this

What you actually need to do is learn about compressors/limiters and put one on the mic input in OBS. It's definitely clipping digitally. Rode also has some great processing software for that mic, but I don't remember if it only works with the USB version of the mic. You're definitely not clipping at the mic level with that mic, it's almost certainly incorrect gain staging either in the interface or in your streaming software.

To expand a bit on setting this up, make sure she isn't clipping at the loudest on the scarlett interface. Yelling and screaming shouldn't trip the clip indicator. Then in your sofware, adjust/increase the gain so it's apropriate for her normal speaking level. Add a limiter set to -0.1 db on her mic input, and you're all set. You might want to try a compressor with a low ratio (2:1 to 4:1), a moderate threshold to catch only the loudest peaks (around -6 to -10 db is usually where I'd start), a fast attack (1-10ms) to control transients, and a slow release (100-300ms) to avoid pumping. If there's a vocal/dialogue preset usually it will be something similar to these settings.

I recently purchased the Phenyx Pro system which has two headsets and two lavalier mics that came with it. It wasn't too expensive for it. It's uses UHF frequencies and XLR. I have it plugged into a cheap audio Vivitar audio mixer I got from Walmart. I then plug in the audio mixer via USB C into my Yolobox or PC (whichever one I'm using). It seems to get the job done and sounds good. I would say the Phenyx pro does tend to pick up a lot of interference from other devices that use UHF, so be careful of what's around you. So far no complaints about it.

For starting out with streaming, the Blue Yeti is honestly one of the best bang-for0buck mics. Its USB, so you don't need a mixer or audio interface, and the sound quality is way better than headset mics.

The nice thing is it has multiple pickup patterns (cardioid, omni, etc.), so you can use it not just for streaming but also for podcasts, calls, or even recording music if you ever dabble. Cardioid mode is perfect for streaming since it focuses on your voice and cuts down background noise.

Stay away from hyperx quadcast, my arch nemesis

I use a tonor tc30 cheap and works well for me.

I recommend Blue Snowball.

Any $50 mic will be decent to good quality. Fifine AM8T, Hyperx Quadcast two I can mention. But around that budget segment known brand condenser or dynamic mic with proper filters/plugins and post editing audio should be pretty good. They do not need additional attachments as well.

Depending on the quality you want and money you are willing to spend.

If we talk about 50-70usd for a mic, forget about any xlr ones, and dynamic(usb ones incl). Also mic position matters a lot if you want clear sound. So boomarm would be a good idea, which allows you to position mic closer to you and lower gain

In eu, fifine makes decent budget mics(not familiar with us availability).

And as for the camera, most webcams are shit or overpriced. So most of the you will get way better pic using your phone. Look into camo studio, or similar

I get the need/want for having cool tools for your hobby/dream job. But I can’t stress this enough. You don’t really need to buy much. If you have a solid computer, mic and can capture audio and video with little or no lag you have everything you need. You can get by with turtle beach headphones. If you’re genuinely funny/good at generating content and leveraging social media for marketing you don’t need anything fancy. Working on developing your brand and skill as an entertainer so you’re more attractive to audiences should be your biggest investment. There’s no use in investing serious cash into pro gear till theres a genuine need and the audience is there engaged. Some streamers make it with a shitty mic. That being said…

You mentioned a blue yeti. That is a great starter mic. I know the USB version does have some drawbacks when compared to the XLR version of the yeti. If you’re looking for the next step in quality, I’d recommend looking into XLR mic category. The quality you can pull from most XLR mics is noticeably different and it offers more scalability for future upgrades. XLR mics do require more equipment in order to plug into your console or computer. You’ll probably need a audio deck/audio interface to push audio to your computer from a XLR mic. But it will give you more control over your audio settings in the long run Solid options for audio interfaces:

• focusrite Scarlett (“2i2” or the “solo” model)
• Elgato Wave XLR or Stream Deck

My recommendations for XLR mics

• Rode PodMic (best bang for your buck)

I don’t think I know enough to properly help you I’m afraid, but I was under the impression Blue Yeti mic’s are decent.

Looks like it’s owned by Logitech now(?) so it’s Logitech G Hub software to preprocess your sound and make some changes there. This might save you from buying a new mic if you haven’t tried tweaking the audio quality there already?

You might have this problem with any microphone in a big room.

Blue yeti has been used by many for a long time. Try a mic isolation shield or something so the sound doesn't bounce around.

Or if still looking for better mics theres rode nt1 or shure sm7b but like I mentioned might still have the issue.

Whatever you can afford. Don't buy expensive stuff right out the get go!

Your streaming software might have a noise suppression filter that you can add to your mic. I have a Samson S1 XLR mic hooked to a cheap usb mixer.
