What Redditors are Saying

Best Mid-Lane Champions for Roaming

TL;DR

  • Galio, Taliyah, and Twisted Fate are top picks for roaming mid-lane champions.
  • Katarina, Qiyana, and Pantheon offer aggressive roaming styles.

Galio

Galio is frequently recommended as a strong roaming mid-lane champion due to his fast wave clear and powerful crowd control abilities. His ultimate allows him to quickly assist allies across the map, making him excellent for counter-ganking [1:1][2:4]. Galio excels in team fights and can be particularly effective when coordinating with teammates [1:3].

Twisted Fate

Twisted Fate is another popular choice for roaming mid-laners because of his global presence with his ultimate ability, which lets him teleport to any location on the map. This makes him ideal for setting up plays and catching isolated enemies [2]. Twisted Fate's roaming capabilities allow him to influence other lanes significantly, especially when combined with Teleport [1:7].

Taliyah

Taliyah is praised for her ability to shove waves quickly and roam effectively with her ultimate, which can block enemy paths or assist allies [2:3][3:4]. Her mobility and utility make her a versatile pick for players looking to impact multiple areas of the map.

Katarina

Katarina is known for her weak laning phase but thrives through roaming and finding kills in other lanes [2:1]. Her mobility allows her to capitalize on chaotic skirmishes, making her a high-risk, high-reward option for players who enjoy aggressive playstyles.

Other Options

Champions like Qiyana, Pantheon, and Zed naturally lend themselves to roaming due to their burst damage and mobility [3:2]. Qiyana, in particular, can dominate games by repeatedly ganking bot lane [3:3]. For those interested in more unconventional choices, champions like Pyke, Singed, and Nunu offer unique roaming experiences [3:2].

These champions provide a variety of playstyles and strategic options for players looking to master the art of roaming from the mid lane. Whether you prefer utility, aggression, or unconventional tactics, there's a roaming mid-laner that can suit your preferences.

I am new to the game but find I have the most fun with midlaners. I want to start roaming more and know that some champions are better at the role than others. Who are the best? Who are the most fun?

I almost dont play mid, but when I have to, I usually play Pantheon(Vs AD or if Im dirst pick) or Galio(Vs AP)

I have to second Galio midnif they have two or more AP. You can clear waves pretty fast and your CC is the one of the easiest to land in the game. Your Ultimate is amazing for counter ganking as well. He is a great counter to Katarina too who is fairly popular in SoloQ.

I almost dont play alone because Im a supp main, I hate myself but not too much to play supp with autofill adc, so whenI have to play Galio mid for some reason, it usually is with more people in call, usually jungle and top. Galio is ultra good if you are in call, but he cant carry soloQ games because he is more like a second tank support, you cannot make 1v1s and kill the enemy vayne that goes 12/0/3

If u wanna learn most efficent play annie and watch guides how to and when to roam

If u wanna have fun try champs and find out what does fun to you

Learn fundamentals with Annie and work on mastering more difficult mid laners after that. LS telling everybody to play Annie isn't a joke, you can't really know how to play a specific champion well unless you know how to play the game as a whole, so starting with something simple is extremely beneficial in the long run.

Hey all, trying to start playing mid lane and currently maining Twisted Fate, my Favourite thing about him is the Ult being able to roam and am curious as to any other champions like him, I know of Asol but I know I will be awful with him and he's getting reworked, So if anyone knows of some good roaming champions that would be amazing any Suggestions would be helpful and greatly appreciated

Katarina. Doesnt win lane against equally skilled enemies withour roaming, as her laning phase is the weakest of all champs in game

Galio. My first main, once you know what the other champions do laning is very easy aside from some (but pretty brutal) hard counters. Amazing teamfighting, insane early waveclear. The difference ist mainly that tf afaik prefers to be the setup for a pick by ulting behind laner etc, galio relies on setup to ult in. This results in twisted fate being better to get picks on isolated enemies while Galio is 10x better in full teamfights, there are few champs that are comparable.

Galio and Lissandra are the first that come to mind if you want to stick to the more utility mages.

You can also take Qiyana/Talon/Kata/Zed who naturally want to roam and snowball.

If you dont mind more cheese picks, you have Pyke, Singed and Nunu who exclusively roam.

I still play him mid. Poke with W. You clear wave fast so do so and roam. You’ll want to play with your jung for skirmishes and look for roams bot to help them get ahead. Play to your strengths of quick wave clear and fast getting around the map.

Tbh it's good if you're prepared to play really strangely. It's one of the few picks that will let you clear fast early and then you can either team up with your jng to invade or you can go straight to roaming. Kayn mid has really good poke with W and is a big threat if you can force the enemy mid to roam as well then you can ambush them. I couldn't say I recommend this if you aren't used to mid roamers though.

Champs to pick when you don't wanna lane

Posted by sungjinwoonah · in r/summonerschool · 1 month ago

Today I just watched a master's gameplay and saw a ziggs mid laner he just cleared the wave from far and roamed the whole time. It's like he didn't laned at all. And after facing so many matches against diana, akali, naafiri I feel him and might start playing like him lol. What are some other champs like that? Who can wave clear easily and just roam

Like ziggs? Squishy far ranged AP who roams with ult range after clearing lane? Probably Xerath? Lux wants to fit here but doesn’t as well.

There are other champions who can fill helping side lanes (if that’s your priority, not sure) in different styles like TF or Galio. Hope this helps!

Xerath is one of my main champs and I agree. After your first item you clear waves with a single Q+W and dont have to interact with the lane beyond that if you dont want.

Granted, you will waste a tonne of why that champ is good by not poking down your opponent, but it's still fine

Seraphine really busted wave clear, she can also be used as an APC in bot, but dunno how viable that is in current season

14 upvotes on reddit
K
KiaraKawaii · 1 month ago

Seraphine is still okay as an APC. But midlane Seraphine has been notoriously weak in a soloq bc she struggles in the chaotic environment and doesn't have any winning matchups. The way Sera mid "wins" is by neutralising enemy laner through non-interaction. Her goal is to just play safe and survive lane, waveclear until midgame teamfights roll around. APC is a lot better for this goal as she not only gets extra notes from her passive with a lane partner, she doesn't even need a lane partner. Once u get Tear + double Amp Tome or Lost Chapter, ur support can ditch lane completely to roam. Sera is able to 1v2 non-cannon waves on her own just fine, while ur support creates a permanent numbers advantage across the map

Most mages with AoE in their kit can do this. You just need to understand mages waveclear breakpoints. There are 3 main lvl breakpoints to know for fast waveclear that most mage midlaners follow:

  • Lvl 5: Casting ur main ability (eg. Lux E, Ahri Q, Syndra Q etc) on the backline twice will clear the casters
  • Lvl 7: Casting ur main ability on the backline once will leave the casters on low enough hp for ur autos to finish them off. Or, u can use another spell to finish them off instantly
  • Lvl 9: Most mages can instantly oneshot the backline with one spell by this stage

Side note: at lvl 6 your main ability will leave the backline on more hp than ur one autoattack can finish off, so u may need to invest in an additional ability for fast waveclear

Understanding these waveclear breakpoints can help u determine how quickly u can shove the incoming wave, in order to prepare ur roam or reset beforehand. The faster u clear out the wave, the longer ur roam timer. Obv an artillery mage (eg. Xerath, Ziggs, Lux, Seraphine) can waveclear from a much safer distance than some of the shorter-ranged mages. Also, most AP champs can start oneshotting the backline as early as obtaining Doran's Ring + 40AP. The cheapest way to obtain this would be double Amp Tomes (800g). Otherwise, your other options to reach 40AP would be Blasting Wand (850g) or the standard Lost Chapter (1200g). Lost Chapter's item components only give u 20AP, it won't be until u complete Lost Chapter that u obtain the 40AP. Knowing this is helpful for when u are in an unfavourable matchup, where ur goal is just trying to play waves and not interact. Say ur champ doesn't have severe mana issues early, and u only managed to base with 800-850g. Instead of buying Amp + Sapphire Crystal, u may want to invest in double Amp Tomes or Blasting Wand instead (depending on what ur building). Obv if ur champ has severe mana issues early then u'd have to go for a mana option

Finally, I explain examples below on how to waveclear effectively on Lux and Seraphine specifically, my 2 most-played champs mid (if u are interested):

#Lux

If u fell behind in lane, Lux is able to play safe and not interact with her laner. To do this, use E just in front of the enemy wave before ur own wave dies. Since E can last up to 5s before it pops, u want to time it so that once ur own wave dies, the enemy wave will be slowed by the E u placed. Use Q on the first 2 melee minions to further stall the wave. This will clump all 6 minions into ur E circle, while ur E cd starts counting down from when u first placed it. After 5s, ur E detonates and dmgs all 6 minions in the process. You can then E again to kill all the minions, and use ur passive auto on the melee minion that wasn't hit by ur Q to kill it. Opponents cannot punish u for waveclearing in this manner, especially if ur sitting close to tower while doing this

For cannon waves, u can save E + R combo to instaclear those. Just make sure that ur E hits all 3 melee minions and the cannon. Lux ult cd is short enough that u can do this to every cannon wave

#Seraphine

The first thing u need to know is that Sera can instaclear non-cannon waves with Doran's Ring, two Amp Tomes, and 1 Adaptive Force minor rune shard using EQQ (we usually go haste for the other minor rune shard). Learn her spell timings and ranges. Try to use ur E so that it hits all 6 minions as they are walking into lane, as they will be in a straight line allowing for an easy E lineup. Followup with QQ when the minions group up so that ur Qs hit every minion. Second thing, since we max Q first early game if u ever find urself under tower, ur early game E only does around the same dmg as ur autos. So, if u need to prep full hp caster minions under tower, simply E all of them one. Then the tower hit will leave them all on enough hp for ur one autoattack to finish them off

Hope this helps!

Best mid lane champs to play when due?

Posted by [deleted] · in r/leagueoflegends · 6 years ago

I often only play LOL when I have a friend with me. I love my mid lane and my friend typically plays top or adc so a good roaming mid carry would be best i'd assume but i'm not sure as to who that would be. I'm currently in silver and when I play mid ever 3rd game or so I get an S- or S and have just over 50% win rate. Not really sure as to what I should do. Since I am duo a champion that can carry by winning mid lane and can snowball that win into other lanes would be awesome therefore I can almost guarantee 2 winning lanes and hopefully a win. All help is greatly appreciated.

P.S I typically play champions such as Ryze, Neeko (when available), and Viktor. They're just the champs i usually play im quite flexible with champions

Mid Laners and Roamers

Posted by s0ngbird444 · in r/honorofkings · 14 days ago

Hi all! I know there is a relatively new season so I can’t find any updated tier lists. I predominately play mid lane but I’m also starting to roam as well. I find most characters can be inconsistent for me, I like high damage in mid, good kill, and even carry potential. Roaming I don’t like to get walked all over, so quite tanky I suppose, good assist, and good crowd control.

Give me some recommendations to match please!

I’ve been stuck in master for so long (win one lose one metric), so please find me some hero’s I can carry/solo with!

Thank you in advanceeee

A few mid lane suggestions for beginners (I'm not expert at the lane, just top 20% mid)

High Dmg Mages: Mai Shiranui, Gan & Mo, Daji, Kongming

Utility Mages: Princess Frost (Wang Zhaojun), Yixing, Lady Zhen

Poke Mages: Flowborn Mage, Angela, Nuwa (Can also be built for dmg, but finisher build is my preference)

Ideally you'd want to learn from atleast one of these stereotypes and hopefully 5 in total. Any experienced players, do correct me if I'm wrong Enjoy the game!

Mage supports are good because you can actually defend the highground if your team dies. And you can get a good score just by poking without the risk of initiating and dying.

For tanks, i'll only go with lian-po. Zhangfei is another popular pick but he's too team-reliant for me.

Have you tried da qiao in mid lane with full damage (without any utility build)? I've been using it lately and it's so fun.

My item : red shoe + scepter + savant's wrath + pink robe + void staff + tome of wisdom + (you can buy utility items in late game)

Arcana : 10 nightmare + 10 harmony + 10 mind's eye

Common skill : teleport

With teleport, you can move to any lane and boom with your ultimate

Two things: Back timings and wave control.

What I've noticed is that roaming is a lot easier if you take the free recall opportunities you get. That way you avoid being OOM/low when a roam opportunity arises, and instead of "back, farm or roam?" a lot of the time your choices are just "Farm or roam".

You can reduce the cost of roaming by managing your wave correctly. And especially mages can usually just shove the wave really quickly to move. If the roam opportunity doesn't work out, you can turn around half way and lose nothing. If it works out, getting your team 1-2 kills, a dragon/tower platings, and a pile of assists, losing a wave to tower is fine.

Remember that gold isn't the only resource in league. Momentum is another one. If you are a threat on the map and you keep your enemies reeling, that's worth more than those 6 CS you might miss.

1 upvotes on reddit

hotmilkramune · 5 years ago

If you see a fight that you think can be won if you're there, then resist your hesitation to go because of the minions and force yourself to go. Unless the minion wave is under your tower, you'll probably only miss a couple minions, and getting to the fight may get you or your team a few kills, which more than makes up for the loss of minions. If you get your jungler ahead, they can get you and the rest of the lanes ahead, and you're more likely to win the game. In terms of actually roaming bot/top, I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it's absolutely free/your laner's roaming/you're behind and can't fight your laner. If you're ahead, you probably want to just control the wave and force the enemy to take your trades/harass and potentially kill them.

Raisin-Toasty · 5 years ago

I think helping your jungler is so underrated. It’s the easiest way to win games. Helping fight at scuttle is always a priority for me. I 100% agree with everything said here. For someone trying to learn how/when to roam, I think being prepared to help at scuttle is a great place to start

If someones over extended gank. Dont ping your teammates until you're right on top because theyll usually give it away. If its in your favor and you believe you can kill go for it. The worse that happens is your enemy laner shoves. Take that time to place down vision for your own jungler and if you dont believe in yourself gank literally with the jungle. Ive been playing alot of leesin and kha mid and ive learned alot about roaming. Its insane how much havoc you can cause when youre basically another jungler. Enemy team fears a gank at any moment and you can get damn near every objective its beautiful. Now with mages its even crazier. Say like Malz who i honestly believe is really underrated he can basically perma push you and fuck top and bot a new asshole or just fuck the midlaner. His roams basically go (do i have ult? Yes? I gank) do i not have ult? Push and see if you can make a play on objective ir just farm. Always help teammates because regardless of who you are 1 man will lose to 5 people, every single time. Team game

1 upvotes on reddit

Seraph199 · 5 years ago

You usually hard push the wave when you want to roam so you don't have to worry about it for a while. Helping with skirmishes is the big one, even if you are too anxious about ganking other lanes, you need to keep an eye on the map and see when your jungler is in a risky spot. If they are doing an objective or get invaded, your team will have a much better chance of getting ahead and winning if you notice and get there before the enemy team does.

Maybe err on the risky side, make yourself rush to help in skirmishes even if it's dangerous. Might help you recognize good and bad situations and force you in the habit of leaving lane to help your team. Help with dragons, etc...

Generally speaking, mages aren't great at roaming because of the way they want to play fights. They don't want to scrap and let people slowly stroll into the fight, they want a front-to-back straight up 5v5.

You can roam if you know it's an easy play, but generally you're better off staying mid and controlling that part of the map, farming, pressuring tower, etc.

Assassins are just so much better at dealing with the scrappy nature of roaming than mages.

If you cant find a good roam main, you can start by becoming one.

I can comfortably be placed in any role (given that i can have my pick of heroes)

Same boat as you but I don't want to main Roam, I just play all roles as I like

But it's too often I had to take Tigreal to stop my team from killing themselves trying to not play Roam

Well you guessed wrong! I am main roam, (mostly tank). That is why I know how weak are roamers right now

As a roam main, i loathe selena roam, natalia is somewhat understandable since her kit is built to be a roam assassin but selena is a burst midlaner not an assassin like can't they just go tig or rafaela that way the core doesn't die during contest or the mm during laning phase

I play Selena in the mid roam and jg, It just depends on the person playing her, like for me I’m always bothering the enemy team, harassing the jungle and damage dealers, the stuns, helping the jungle and huge damage makes her a good roam

Layla is pretty good roam. Good place to start.

Selena was supposed to be a jungler. With her insanely fast jungle clear, her gank potential and her insane early game damage, she was meant for the jungle role. Ppl started playing Selena roam and it got so popular that Jungle Selena completely died out. Some pro selena players still play her as jg

How do I identify when to roam as a mid-lane champion

how to improve map awareness in league of legends

when to gank as a jungler in league of legends

AI Answer

🤖

best mid-lane champions for roaming

Key Considerations for Roaming Mid-Lane Champions:

  1. Mobility: Champions with high mobility can quickly move between lanes and escape ganks. Look for champions with dashes, blinks, or movement speed boosts.

  2. Crowd Control (CC): Champions that can immobilize or disrupt enemies make for effective roamers, as they can secure kills or assist teammates more easily.

  3. Wave Clear: Good wave clear allows you to push your lane quickly, enabling you to roam without losing too much farm or experience.

  4. Map Awareness: Champions that can provide vision or have abilities that help in skirmishes (like global ultimates) can enhance your roaming effectiveness.

  5. Synergy with Jungler: Consider champions that can easily coordinate with your jungler for successful ganks.

Top Mid-Lane Champions for Roaming:

  1. Zed: High mobility with his Living Shadow (W) and can quickly burst down enemies with his combo. Great for picking off squishy targets.

  2. Kassadin: Excellent mobility with Riftwalk (R) and can roam effectively after level 6. He scales well into the late game.

  3. Taliyah: Strong wave clear with her Threaded Volley (Q) and can roam effectively with her Weaver's Wall (R) to cut off escape routes.

  4. LeBlanc: High burst damage and mobility with Distortion (W) make her a strong roamer, especially for picking off isolated targets.

  5. Fizz: Great mobility and burst damage, especially after level 6 with his Chum the Waters (R). He can easily surprise enemies.

Recommendation: If you're looking for a champion that excels at roaming and can also carry games, LeBlanc is a fantastic choice due to her burst damage and ability to escape quickly. However, if you prefer a more tanky option with good late-game scaling, Kassadin is a solid pick. Always consider your playstyle and team composition when choosing a champion!
