What Redditors are Saying

Best Mini Driving Light for Motorcycles

TL;DR

  • Consider Denali or TDD for high-quality options [1:3][1:4].
  • Ensure proper installation with quality wiring to avoid electrical issues [2:1][2:2].

Popular Brands and Models

When selecting a mini driving light for motorcycles, Denali is recommended as a high-budget option known for its reliability and performance [1:3]. TDD is also praised for its lifespan, making it a solid choice if you're looking for durability [1:4]. These brands are recognized for their quality and effectiveness in providing adequate lighting without being overly large or cumbersome.

Installation Considerations

Proper installation is crucial to ensure the safety and functionality of your mini driving lights. Essential components include brackets, wires, fuses, relays, and switches [2:1]. It's important to have a professional handle the wiring, as improper installation can lead to electrical fires or damage [2:2]. If the mechanic isn't specialized in wiring, it's advisable to seek out a trusted motorcycle electrical shop.

User Experiences and Recommendations

For those who have tried various lights, some users suggest alternatives like Sofirn Q8 Plus for exceptional brightness [3:1], although these may be more suitable for general use rather than specifically for motorcycles. The Milwaukee brand was mentioned for its versatility and magnetic features, which could be useful for temporary setups or additional lighting needs [5:1].

Additional Tips

Consider your specific needs and preferences when choosing a mini driving light. If you require a setup that blends seamlessly with your motorcycle's aesthetics, focus on smaller, round models that don't overpower the bike's look [1]. Additionally, ensure any modifications won't void your motorcycle's warranty by checking with the manufacturer or dealer [1:6].

Whats the best mini driving light out there?

I just recently bought my adv 160 and I want an mdl for it. I only want the small round ones and not those obnoxious big ass auxuliary lights. I like the setup on the picture but I dont know which ones to buy because there are a lot of knockoffs in the market. Help! 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

How will it void the warranty?

any mods affecting overall performance: electrical or engine related will void warranty. in your case electrical, since you're drawing more power directly from system circuitry. unless sa usb mo ikabit ung aux light mo lusot ka dun.

Driving light, switch, relay, high quality wire.

Gamit ko is senlo x1 plus. Apakalakas, malawak ang buga. 1400php ang presyo ng mdl pa lang mismo then inabot ng 3500 lahat lahat. Labor, materials.

Pero depende pa rin sayo kung ano choice mo. Nagsuggest lang ako 🤣

Marauder Mini

Got the marauder mini. It feels really good in the hand, I love the color. I was a little nervous that it was gonna be too bright, but it’s very satisfying. However, it’s not as bright as I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely bright, but my little night core EDC 37 is brighter. I guess I’ll have to get the marauder 2. Hopefully I can find it in orange.

I picked mine up about two months ago, and it’s been nothing short of incredible. I’m not a hardcore flashlight enthusiast by any means, so take this with a grain of salt, but this thing practically turns night into day. When I walk my dog through the forest reserve at night, it lights up the entire forest with ease. I’ve even had strangers stop me to compliment how powerful it is. All in all, it was an excellent purchase! I’m sure you’ll love it!

Yeah, maybe. Like I said, I'm not that big of an enthusiast, so most of the flashlights I had leading up to this were just cheapies, so this was a significant upgrade from what I was used to. If you're one of those guys that's really into lights, then perhaps this is underwhelming??

If you want crazy bright, buy a Sofirn q8 plus on aliexpress for $50. It’s nearly twice as bright as the Mini but no fancy stuff like colors, a cool switch, and beam angle choice.

I LOVE my orange Marauder mini, but the q8 plus turns night into day and charges USBC devices.

For my small company drivers or owner ops, this lil fella is the best light I’ve had might actually have it as my favorite Milwaukee brand tool. It’s bright, chargers my phone, magnetic and just feels good in the hand. One 1.5 m12 battery last 4+ hours for me on the brightest. It’s great for pre trips and great for working on a truck or your personal vehicle. It’s great for my truck just stick it on the head rack and the whole engine is light up.

For a budget friendly setup I really like TDD brand stuff. I use their 55w dual pass headlight bulb and 2 60w bluewaters. They're great for the price. Good light output, beam projection is not scattered, and haven't had a problem with water ingress. They also offer other products light mini driving lights and big projector lazerbeams.

Price def dictates a lot of the quality try and avoid no name unbranded stuff like the ones you see on lazada or other platforms. Before switching to my current setup I tried no name stuff for my aux lights and global brand 6 LED headlight bulb which is also a local brand. The aux lights sucked they were a 6 bulb system rated at 18w but tested my 15w lowbeam was better and the beam pattern sa super scattered plus It had water sealing issues. For global brand stuff their ok but on the lower end of the spectrum.

For me I highly recc them for the price. You could go to a trusted place and look through what they have if you're more comfortable with that to also have a reliable warranty and have it tested. If you can buy 40w lazerbeams those things are bada$$ super strong light output just big and bulky ass hell tho. And please please please use them responsibly aim them a bit lower and use them in places you only need them

What is your favorite tail light?

Posted by softblackstar · in r/bikecommuting · 4 years ago

Hi everyone,

I am looking to get a tail light, and looking for recommendations. My current light works on 2 round flat batteries, which need to be replaced quite often. I thought I'd look into something rechargeable, although it had its own downsides. I usually put the light on one of the seat stays rather than the seatpost, since I'm concerned it can be obscured by clothing or the seat itself. Any recommendations? I'm located in the US.

CygoLite Hotshot Pro series tail lights are best bang for the buck. Bright, wide beam, good battery life, USB charging, affordable, made in USA, two mount options: buy as either seatpost soft mount or with seatpost/stay hard bracket.

4 upvotes on reddit
hshxijfbebwnak · 4 years ago

I agree, I really like mine. I have the 50 lumen version and it’s good bang for the buck. I got my Dad the 150 lumen light and that thing is really bright and only ~$9 more.

1 upvotes on reddit
T
tuctrohs · 4 years ago

If you use stay mount, be careful that you aren't pointing a highly directional light skyward. In general, I recommend wider angle lights to work with different scenarios and motorist seat heights. For example, cygolite hotrod is wider light distribution than cygolite hotshot.

Also, a wide area light is better to enable being bright enough to be highly visible without being blinding to someone close behind. Again, cygolite hotrod is a good choice.

And cygolite is a good company with a reputation for reliability without being overpriced.

I'm a flashlight nerd and custom light builder. I wouldn't trust most of what's on Amazon because they lie about output, capacity, ect. Some might meet their claimed output but only for a seconds to a couple minutes before thermal regulation kicks in. They use cheap linear drivers too and that means the light will decrease in brightness as the battery dies. Truthfully 800 lumens is about the max sustainable output for a light that size without active thermal regulation. Lumintop has a bike light. They're a good brand but I'm extreme so I'd need a dozen of them to be happy. Astrolux (Bangood) makes a nice light too. I'd ask your question on r/flashlight if you really want good recommendations. Personally I like a headlamp for riding or you could mount a flashlight, some have tripod mounts so a common 1/4-20 thread. You can pick up a 25,000 lumen rechargeable flashlight with active thermal regulation for $80 and use the tripod mount. The Sofirn Q8 Plus fits the bill but kinda big😉 Long story short consumer bike lights suck for the most part.

6 upvotes on reddit
HappyReference · 2 years ago

I wanted to do something similar. My issue is that flashlights generally output the light evenly, while bike lights "focus" it down and don't blind/annoy other riders. Shine a bike light and a flashlight at a wall to see what I mean.

Do you know how to prevent this?

2 upvotes on reddit
P
professor_pouncey · 2 years ago

I don't, I don't ride where there's traffic...or live near any. But to avoid blinding people I just shut them off. I have either a secondary light like the stock one or a headlamp and I just point it down. The reason I got the Lumintop bike lights was to make them my secondary lights on high output builds. It has that hard cutoff and is a good light. I put a gopro mount on it and used an adapter that bolts to the mounting screws of the handlebars. Actually that's what I use on my one light with a tripod mount. I just use a gopro to tripod adapter. Works great and you can move the light up/down.

RockBros 1000LM is what I have on my Ninebot Max. Has a proper headlight throw pattern so as not to blind others (unlike a flashlight) and a fully metal casing. Also doubles as a power bank so you could charge your phone with it. Light and power bank feature can operate at the same time.

best mini driving light for motorcycle

Key Considerations for Mini Driving Lights for Motorcycles

  1. Brightness: Look for lights with high lumens output (typically between 1,000 to 3,000 lumens) for optimal visibility. LED lights are generally brighter and more efficient.

  2. Beam Pattern: Consider the beam pattern (spot, flood, or combo). Spot beams provide long-range visibility, while flood beams illuminate a wider area. A combo pattern is often ideal for versatile use.

  3. Durability: Ensure the lights are made from durable materials, preferably with an IP rating (like IP67) for water and dust resistance, to withstand harsh weather conditions.

  4. Mounting Options: Check for easy installation and versatile mounting options. Some lights come with adjustable brackets for better positioning.

  5. Power Consumption: Opt for energy-efficient lights that won't drain your motorcycle's battery. LED lights typically consume less power.

Recommendations:

  • Denali D2 LED Lights: These lights are known for their excellent brightness (up to 1,800 lumens), durable construction, and adjustable beam pattern. They also come with a wiring harness for easy installation.

  • Baja Designs Squadron Pro: With a powerful output of 4,900 lumens, these lights are compact and extremely durable. They have a wide beam pattern, making them great for both on-road and off-road use.

  • Auxbeam 2" LED Pods: A budget-friendly option that still offers good brightness (about 1,600 lumens) and a durable design. They are easy to install and come with adjustable mounting brackets.

Choosing the right mini driving light will enhance your visibility and safety while riding, especially during night rides or in low-light conditions.
