TL;DR
Cooling Effectiveness
Neck fans provide varying levels of relief from heat. The Torras Coolify stands out with its cooling plate that directly cools the neck, offering more than just airflow [1:1]. While neck fans can help indoors, their effectiveness outdoors, especially in high temperatures, may be limited as they might only circulate warm air
[2:2]
[5:1].
Design and Functionality
Design preferences vary, but many users appreciate the "bladeless" style which resembles headphones. This design is discreet and often mistaken for headphones, making it stylish for public use [5:2]. However, it's important to note that bladeless models may not move as much air compared to traditional fans due to their enclosed design
[3:5]. For those concerned about hair getting caught, bladeless fans are a safer option
[3:4].
Noise Levels
Noise is a common concern with neck fans, particularly at higher settings. Most models offer multiple speed settings, allowing users to adjust based on their environment. Lower settings are generally quieter and suitable for conversations [5:6]. Some users have noted that while the highest setting can be loud, medium settings still allow for conversation
[5:4].
Recommendations
For those looking for specific models, the ASNUG Bladeless Rechargeable Personal Fan is highly recommended for its functionality and design [3:2]. Another popular choice is the model linked by a user, praised for its lightweight build and three-speed settings
[5:3]. Additionally, Japanese cooling neck rings, which solidify at cooler temperatures, offer an alternative cooling method without the noise of a fan
[2:1].
Considerations Beyond Discussions
When selecting a neck fan, consider where you'll primarily use it (indoors vs. outdoors), your sensitivity to noise, and any design preferences you may have. It's also beneficial to read reviews or watch video demonstrations to ensure the fan meets your expectations in terms of cooling power and noise level.
Heat has been really getting to me this year.
Neck fans has anyone tried one of these. I have considered buying one of these. Anyone have experience with them?
I have one, and it is pretty great. I'm not sure if it's one mentioned there, but it's when my head gets hot in particular that it bothers me. So it works really well for me.
I’ve used one in a pinch and it provides some relief. Not amazing but takes the edge off.
I have one that also has a cooling plate on the back of it to cool my neck. It was kind of expensive but we'll worth it. Look on amazing for the Torrad Coolify.
Have any HHers found a neckfan that helps their facial/cranial/general hyperhidrosis?
Based on surface level research what I've gathered is:
Thanks!
I have one (similar in design to 'comlife bladeless neck fan' if you google images) and it helps a bit. The one I have is pretty quiet on the lowest setting, while still giving a bit of breeze. But outside it barely does anything, any small wind outside negates it even on highest setting.
So if you can find a cheap one (and can test the noise level), and you're using it indoors mostly, I'd say it could be worth it to have that extra bit of relief that might stop some sweating.
It helps in certain circumstances, while I'm cleaning or commuting. I find it too noisy for much else esp if you are with other people and you want to hear them properly. I think there's a crazy expensive one that's practically silent but that's a bit out of my budget
I have one and find it very useful. Been using it for about 6 months now.
Project farm on YouTube just did a pretty in depth review of a lot of these in varying in costs
I use a neck ring that solidifies at 28°C. Stick it in the fridge, and put it round your neck, lasts about 3 hours or so. Pretty awesome especially for public commutes to and from work. Its everywhere in Japan. Beware of counterfeits though, fake ones are just normal ice packs in the shape of a neck ring. Not sure which country you're in but just google "Japanese cooling neck ring", theres some Tiktoks and videos online for more information :)
We recently visited the parks and noticed everyone was wearing neck fans. I didn't even know that was a thing!
Anyway, ahead of our next trip, can anyone share their favorite (brand/model) or experiences they've had with neck fans?
The most common style have small, enclosed fanblades that shoot air upwards from the device. They look like a pair of headphones or as if someone strapped a TV remote control around your neck. Like this one. Models such as this function similarly, with slight variations in number of speed settings or battery life. They offer a nice respite to heat and work well, getting several hours of battery life at max speeds. They are priced from $10-100 but find a well-reviewed pair for around $20 and you'll do fine. Certainly don't pay much more than that.
The absolute best ones are the non-enclosed neck fan style, which push a lot more air. and allow you to adjust the aim of each blade individually. They don't look as sleek, but having had several of both styles I'd argue they are 2-3x as effective as the enclosed style. Being able to aim each fan directly where you want it (at your face, instead of only up toward it) is a huge benefit when combined with how much more air they push. Since these aren't as "cool" looking they tend to be cheaper. That may allow you to pick one up with a much bigger battery and extend your fan cooling time all day long. I have a 10,000 mAh pair that lasts a full day at Disneyworld without needing to be charged.
thank you for your detailed comment! super helpful
Neck fan, cooling towel, and a misting fan! Absolute lifesavers this week
If you have long-ish hair, avoid the ones that have the round looking fans on the end. They grab my hair terribly and it isn't fun. I just got a "bladeless" one to try, we will see how that goes.
The "bladeless" ones are simply smaller, enclosed fans and they unfortunately do not move nearly as much air as the non-enclosed style.
The same plastic protecting your hair from getting sucked in is also protecting AIR from getting sucked in, and subsequently, pushed through.
They do work fairly well, still. I found the difference pretty remarkable though and the main thing I missed about the non-enclosed style was that you can aim those right at your face while the "bladeless" are stuck blowing air in whatever direction the vents are designed.
Agree, just got my bladeless and noticed the same thing. I will probably carry both. My bladeless also has metal plates that get cold, so that is nice but not being able to aim it is a shortfall for sure.
For everyone talking about misting fans, just want to give advice. Notice that the babies with those misting fans they play with all day will have really red faces. It’s because they basically spray off their sunscreen all day and then they’re burnt. Poor things. Don’t forget to continually reapply sunscreen to yourself and the kids with misting fans if you’re using them.
Carry on🤪
I just now came across this post, but I’m about to head on vacay with a 1-yo. Great piece of advice, thanks so much!
Neck fan + shorts and sandals was a total life saver. Got the neck fan cheaply from amazon, just found some from some review site I can go look for exact model later
edit: I bought the neck fan top in this list https://reviewedbyclark.com/top-5-best-neck-fans/
Does any hair stylist out there using a neck fan !? I already run super hot and one of my medicines in on causes excessive sweating and it’s so embarrassing and uncomfortable . Looking for some recommendations on what kind to get .

I put an icepack on my back, under my bra strap. There also the neck cooling tubes, sometimes I use those.
Oh that’s such a smart idea ! Tysm !
Hey all! I'm going to a music festival soon and I want to get a neck fan - no shame, no regrets!
Can you recommend me something that works decently but also LOOKs quite nice?
I'm after something minimalist in style, few buttons, functions, and branding - something slick if at all possible! If it comes in nice beige / pastel colours that'd be super!
I'm based in the UK but happy to order from abroad. I've found a few options, but all online so I'd rather go off your recommendations since I can't go to see and try one.
I have the one in that link also. People think they’re just headphones. 🙂
Nice! It’s very cute I think I’ll go for it 😊
How effective is it for you? I’m wondering if the quietest speed can blunt flush at least a tiny bit (I’m thinking of having it on quiter speed while chatting to people at a bar for example)
I don’t find it to to be that loud. It’s decently quiet. It doesn’t do much for me if I’m in high heat, but in general settings it’s great.
I have this one and love it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08911JGGW?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
It has 3 speed settings and super lightweight.
Ah great! This was one of the options I considered so super glad to know it’s light weight ❤️
How loud is it? Can I wear it and still have a conversation with someone? 😅
Sound wise it just depends on the setting. The lowest setting you can barely hear it, medium is noticeable but I can still have a conversation, and the high setting is loud-ish but I can talk to someone if they are right next to me.
Just noticed that the "Project Farm" guy (youtube) just did a test on a bunch of them if anyone is interested:
I find it helps the mental health but doesn't actually do anything for cooling me off.
I ended up buying one after watching it yesterday. I went with the one that had the best fan speed, chillgo.
You mean you didn't go for the $280 one. (LOL)
lol naw if I was that hot, I’ll take myself to the truck
i have one. unfortunately when it's 95+ outside all it does is blow hot air in your face so not a huge help for keeping cool. but down here in FL its nice for keeping the midges and skeeters out your face
Looking for recommendations on what you think is the best neck fan to get and ear plugs?
Five below has some decent neck fans wouldn’t hurt to check them out. They also have the misting fans too.
I really need a neck fan this year, but Vibes are my go to for ear plugs. I think Vibes and Loop are similar in that they aim to filter sound, rather than outrightly block it. You'll get less sound protection than something like foam earplugs, but the sound will be so much better. Vibes are also invisible, if that matters to you.
I'll probably try Loop at some point, but not for this year's Lolla.
Loop earplugs are the best for protection. I got mine off Amazon and they work perfectly :)
Can you still hear the music, okay?
Very well. I have also tried earasers, but those don't work as well for me
Coolify 2s is probably the most effective neck fan I’ve used. It has those cooling plates. Definitely cooler than a regular fan, also pricier though.
I am looking for suggestions as to what wearable heat mitigation devices (coolers/fans etc) are recommended. Amazon and Rakuten are flooded with options, but I am looking for a good, not necessarily cheap, options.
The heat hit me hard today. I stayed super hydrated, wore airism and linen, I've lost weight (186cm/80kg), but still I felt just exhausted. This summer it's hitting me harder.
This looks decent. Thanks.
As someone that works outside for most of the day I can say the only thing that stops getting heatstroke is a good fan jacket/vest. Most of the other folk that work outside in our village also wear them, the people that don't inevitably end up with a visit to hospital.
Might look a bit odd when you stroll into a shop but look at how many workmen/craftsmen are also wearing them. You can vary the fan speed so it's less noisy when you go inside a shop but to be honest who cares.
Don't bother with the cheaper ones, go with someone like バートル (Burtle). They have a good product range and will last well compared to the cheap Chinese ones. I would advise getting 2 jackets/vests or more so while one is washing you have the other one to wear. The newer Burtle fans are waterproof so can be washed or worn when it's raining (light rain not torrential downpours).
The inside of Burtle jackets/vests have an aluminium layer to reflect heat from direct sunlight which helps to protect your from the sun.
Starting to see more and more folk supplied with corporate branded jackets and even ordinary workers seem to be adopting them.
Would you mind sharing some more details about it? Like how long does it last, how does it feel to wear it? Do you wear it on top of another shirt or it needs to make skin contact?
It's like having your own personal fan blowing air over your upper body and if you supplement it with a frozen gel pack can feel very cool while that lasts.
I'd suggest wearing a quick dry polyester shirt underneath but you could also go without if so inclined. You could also combine it with a cold gel vest. The layer of air between you and the jacket isolates you from direct sun and its heat. An added bonus is protection from biting insects.
As for how long it will run for, that is somewhat hard to quantify. Much depends on which year battery you buy and what speed you run the fans at. Newer batteries can run the fans at higher speeds for longer. However, most can run their fans at mid speed for around 7 ~ 8 hours. I can run my 2020 battery for about 6 ~ 7 hours at 10v but can boost it up to 12v for one hour if really needed but that can drain it quite quickly. At 8v it will run all day. Burtle's run time figures for each battery is fairly accurate if you look online.
Hope that helps.
I’m considering buying a fan jacket for my commute. Do you know where I can try the Burtle jacket? What shops are selling them?
Workman often has them in stock and I think Power Komeri, Cainz Home and Joyful Honda also have them. I've seen them in those places with samples to try on. If in doubt err on getting a bigger size than you think you might need as that will allow the air to flow more easily. I have a 5L and that easily accommodates my rather large belly.
Not sure about other makes but Burtle have a mesh pouch at the back you can put the frozen gel packs into for extra cooling.
Amazon sells them, also they sell the fans at Donki
I have this one from "thanko", which I bought in Akihabara. I bought it because I had seen since construction workers using it. It works very very well, both at chilling me off, and also at repelling the opposite gender.
This morning I saw a young lady in otherwise fashionable OL attire wearing a plain white fan-cooled vest.
Look at the MEANSWHILE kuchofuku. You'll see a lot more fashion focused brands getting in too.
But everyone should be aware that kuchofuku are not shown to work well above 35C, according to the kuchofuku corporation.
I really love the cooling towels. You hold them under water, wring them out and whenever you shake them, they magically turn really cool. They're great for cooling your neck, wrists and face and it's literally just a towel/scarf that you can take anywhere. They sell them at 100 yen shops, but I've found the quality isn't great, so I recommend the slightly more expensive ones, e.g. sold at Cainz or online, as they get even cooler (thicker and I guess better material).
JisuLife Neck Fan Pro1
I've been eyeing different neck fans to stay cool. I usually like to go on walks, watch football at Rizal Memorial Stadium, go to the mall, and while doing all of this I usually sweat. Yeahhh...even in the mall it can get warm (for me) from walking around a lot, I'm someone who sweats easily lol.
So, it was not brainer that I should look for a neck fan to stay cool during this summer heat. I went with JisuLife because my wife has a handheld fan from them, the handheld Fan Life5, which I actually like. There were different models for JisuLife neck fans, so I went with the most expensive and latest one. The JisuLife Neck Fan Pro1. So, with the neck fan, I wasn't expecting something to absolutely cool me with cool air, my expectation was that this fan would probably give me a nice strong breeze around my neck and face. This neck fan did not!
When I first got it, I was wowed by the packaging. The presentation was absolutely great. It came with a sleeve over the box. A tab that you pull that would reveal the neck fan underneath. I thought, "That's how you present a product worth 2k+!" I was getting the premium unboxing experience. Unfortunately, that's where the positive things about this product ended.
I put it around my neck and turned the dial up to 100 which is shown on the digital display. The fans sounded like jet engines and I was excited that I would be met with a blast of air. Despite being at home with no breeze of the home fan, with the aircondition on, I barely felt anything from the neck fan. I had to take it off and check that everything was correct. Battery showed 48% on the digital display, fan speed was at 100, hmm weird. I put it back on my neck and the breeze was so weak. My wife saw me trying it on and I asked her to try it. She put it around her neck (over her hair), and she said, "I can't feel anything". I told her to try it under her hair, she obliged, and she said she can barely feel anything. We both looked at each other and she said, "Sayang naman."
The there are 4 vents, 2 on each side, and none are directly behind your neck. The airflow is directed upwards around sides of your neck but tries to blow at a 45 degree angle backwards to hit the back of your neck behind your ears, it fails so misereably. You seriously cannot feel a strong breeze. The air feels so scattered, like a breath of air. Like if you were trying to shower with a spray bottle on "mist mode", that's how the "pressure" felt like. Your laptop fan when doing something heavy, has stronger air than this. The soft air that will not cool you.
Despite all that I had to test it in the real world. First was when cooking and doing dishes. I was still hot and had to turn on the electric fan in the room. Next, I tried it at the mall. There was a light breeze, but it didn't hold up well. I got a lot of looks and was a bit conscious because it was loud, but I don't think they could hear it because of the hustle & bustle and music in the mall, but it was surely loud to my ears but got little air. It felt like someone was just breathing on my neck. Then I decided to try it when going to church. I usually just go to church to make the wife happy, I thought maybe I'd be ok because I'd have a breeze around my neck. The church was stifling hot. The neck fan made no difference, I still had to ask my wife if she could share her handheld fan with me. Afterwards we walked home, and I might have well just been wearing headphones around my neck, heavy, loud, with no breeze. Then I took it to the Rizal Memorial Stadium to watch some football during the weekend. It was hot AF! Good thing the seating area was under the shade. The little to no breeze was at the stadium was stronger than this fan. I ended up just putting it aside because I was just getting irritated with it.
I can't believe they released this product and was happy with it. It's just loud for no reason. I wouldn't mind it being loud and being hit with flowing air, but it's just loud with barely any air. I checked the inlet vents. It has 2 vents at the back behind the neck pad, but when you wear it, the vents are obstructed. Then it has 2 more vents underneath the back that looks like 2 credit card slots. I'm no aerodynamicist or F1 car engineer but I think the inlet should be larger than the outlet? Such a terrible product. I'm making this review so that if you are considering this you can be informed and so that you don't buy it. Don't waste your money like I did. I feel so cheated. I wish I could refund this and just get another handheld fan instead. Save your money!
Pros
Cons
Conclusion
Do not buy! It's not worth your money. Even if it was P500, I wouldn't even buy it. Yes, it's that bad. This product is a complete failure, it shouldn't even have been released for sale.
I like Jisulife but their neck fans aren't worth it. Better stick sa handheld fans
Agree. Jisulife is a great brand as a whole. Pero I was never a fan of their neckfans, neckfans in general. I could tell it won’t be enough for my needs seeing na ang liit ng gaps for airflow to pass through.
Their handfans are great tho, hands down. No one’s topping them.
Which handdheld fans are the best?
Definitely, the handheld fans are great.
I have the FA14 model and it’s awesome! Just got it as a birthday gift. For me even level 1 power is definitely noticeable and it lasts like 16 hours on that. On level 5 its extremely powerful and can make my eyes and nose dried out. Lasts about 5hours on that one. Im not sure, maybe this guy got an ineffective dud.. the one I am using has like 70 vents all the way around. Mine was from Amazon in USA.
thanks sa review. anong brand kaya ang maganda? eyeing to buy pa naman for my mom. napacancel tuloy ako ng order ko from other brand na cheaper
Neck fans aren’t really worth it. Kaya better to look for a different type of fan nalang.
got it, i ordered handheld fan na pwedeng lagyan ng lace instead.
I love this type of review, detailed and informative. Thank you, OP!
We need more of these types of reviews! Ty OP 🙏🏼
thanks op, I've been eyeing that one for some time na. delete na cya sa cart
I actually had it in my cart for a while before purchasing. I checked out Youtube reviews and they were mostly positive (probably paid or biased because they got a free product and they want to keep getting free products from companies). Those reviewers did their viewers wrong.
Budol is real lol
Recently saw this in my YouTube feed and thought I was pretty cool. Has anyone tried one of these cooling neck fans? I’ve seen a very wide range of prices and style, Worth the money?
It’s ok, however it recirculates the air around you, so if there is a lot of dust it’s just directing it at your face.
I’ve used it in boiler rooms and attics.
Same used one during the summer in Mobile Alabama. Was humid out felt like I had shower exhaust fan blowing on me.
Good on a roof.
😂 It's not bad enough in this old ass basement, I need a fan to blow the asbestos and concrete dust directly into my nose
Didn’t really help for me, the air is just too hot and humid here so it doesn’t seem like it’s doing anything
Same used one during the summer in Mobile Alabama. Was humid out felt like I had shower exhaust fan blowing on me. Felt good on the rare day the humidity wasn't sky high
I wear one under my beekeeping jacket in summer. They're great.
Ive never heard of that. I just accept that my clothes are going to be drenched when doing hive inspections. Haven't looked for solutions other than a ventilated suit. Maybe I'll look into this one day.
My wife adores hers for travel and shows.
Lmao zip tie tech got me, I mainly work on chillers and VRV so imma give it a chance. Honestly I just sweat too much. I’ll give everyone an update when I grab it
I got a sticker that says ziptie certified that's where it came from. I do mostly rooftop work but and I gotta recommend wide brim hats, you look silly but they do help
You can soak a washcloth in ice water and put it on your neck for a better cooling effect without needing to buy one of these goofy things.
If you bring a cooler of ice with you, you can plunge your hands into the ice to get rid of a lot of heat in a hurry.
best neck fan
Key Considerations for Choosing the Best Neck Fan:
Battery Life: Look for a neck fan with a long battery life (at least 4-10 hours) to ensure it lasts through your activities without frequent recharging.
Weight and Comfort: Choose a lightweight design (ideally under 1 lb) that is comfortable to wear for extended periods, especially if you plan to use it while exercising or during hot weather.
Airflow and Speed Settings: Consider fans with multiple speed settings to adjust airflow according to your comfort level. Look for models that provide strong airflow without excessive noise.
Adjustability: A flexible or adjustable neckband can enhance comfort and allow you to position the fan for optimal airflow.
Design and Portability: Opt for a sleek, portable design that can easily fit in a bag or be worn around the neck without being cumbersome.
Recommendation: The JISULIFE Neck Fan is highly rated for its combination of comfort, battery life (up to 16 hours on low speed), and adjustable airflow settings. It’s lightweight and has a flexible design, making it easy to wear for long periods. Another great option is the O2COOL Neck Fan, known for its affordability and decent performance, making it a solid choice for casual use.
