TL;DR
Orpheus
Orpheus is the protagonist's initial persona and remains a fan favorite due to its iconic status in the series. While not the strongest in terms of raw power, Orpheus can be developed into a versatile persona with a balanced skill set that serves well in the early stages of the game. Its ability to evolve into Orpheus Telos later on adds significant value, as it gains access to powerful skills and resistances [2:1].
Thanatos
Thanatos is another highly regarded persona, known for its strong attack capabilities and dark-themed design. It represents death and rebirth, fitting well within the game's narrative. Thanatos has high offensive stats and access to powerful dark spells, making it an excellent choice for dealing with tough enemies. Its presence also ties deeply into the storyline, providing both gameplay advantages and thematic depth [3:5].
Messiah
Messiah is often considered one of the best end-game personas due to its exceptional stats and abilities. As a fusion of Orpheus and Thanatos, Messiah combines the strengths of both personas, offering a comprehensive skill set that includes healing, support, and offensive capabilities. Its signature move, "Great Seal," is particularly useful in challenging battles, making Messiah a top-tier choice for players looking to maximize their combat effectiveness [5:6].
Customization and Playstyle
When selecting personas, it's crucial to consider your playstyle and team composition. Some players prefer personas with strong elemental attacks, while others might prioritize support or healing abilities. The versatility of personas like Orpheus allows players to adapt to various combat scenarios, ensuring they remain effective throughout the game. Additionally, the ability to fuse and customize personas means you can tailor your roster to suit your specific needs and preferences [5:5].
Thematic and Aesthetic Appeal
Beyond gameplay mechanics, many players choose personas based on their thematic and aesthetic appeal. Personas like Raoul and Diego are praised for their stylish designs and thematic resonance, adding a layer of personal connection to the player's experience. This emotional attachment can enhance enjoyment and immersion, making the selection of personas a more personalized decision [5:9].
I know my last post was only 2 days ago but this is just so important i need to tell you.
So, i was chatting with my friend group in school today and one of them said that if i were a girl they would kiss me and, a few minutes after, said that they have no problem with dating trans girls, considering my previous post, i think i never experienced this much happiness in a while, and he is passing to some post break-up sadness, we can just help each other with our issues.
I am gonna tell him everything and hope for the best, cheer up for me, love you <3
Best of luck!
DOES ANYONE HAVE THE PURE ART
omg tysm im gonna use that as a pfp somewhere :3
Yay so happy for you
good luck :3
well it deserves it. My favorite game of all time. Does loose a few things from fes like the tone, and also making the characters a bit closer, but I really like it personally. They're both amazing different ways to experience the game now
I myself finished reload and it made me want to do the female Mc on p3p. So im currently playing that. Still loving it. Taurtarus is a slog though. I also miss those QoL changes in the remake.
That's my plan too. Gonna replay p5r first then go to p3p. And at some point maybe fes too. Not looking forward to the outdated Tartarus but other than that I'm hyped to try it
I always said "If you ever find yourself in a position where you agree with IGN, it's time to reevaluate life".
Wow, guess it's time I reevaluate my life.
nah, FF7 being a good remake? the fact that persona 3r is there is mere lucky coincidence
Also,, I know we're on the Persona subreddit, but Pokemon HGSS is just the better remake
FF7R is a phenomenal remake (even tho it's a reimagining version of it) of a game that's a glorified hallway with occasional semi-open world segments with a great story.
Is the story worse in some ways? Yeah but og FF7 was like 60% story.
Is the gameplay better? It definitely is for 90% of people
It really is a fantastic game!
Just wish it had the option to turn on/off the original version of the soundtrack!
Did they lose the rights to the older versions or something?
Persona should be high but Heartgold and SoulSilver being so low is criminal Id even argue it is the best Pokemon game period
I’ve never understood how people think HG/SS is better than Platinum, but more power to you
7.8/10 too much Tartarus.
Yukari - My favorite character of the series. She feels very real and relatable, in a way I think makes some people uncomfortable. She's not just a pretty face for the players, she doesn't have a crush on the player immediately, she gets angry, she does stupid mistakes because she's emotional. She's flawed and I love her for it.
Junpei - He has the best arc in the series in my opinion. Junpei goes from silly and jealous in the start of The Journey, and evolves so much he becomes the voice of reason in the The Answer. His relationship with Chidori is great as well, I can't wait to see it in Reload.
Ann - My reason for liking Ann so much is pretty dang shallow: she just seems like someone I'd want around. She's fun, doesn't take herself too seriously, loyal to her friends, doesn't like conflict, etc. She sounds like the kind of friend everyone needs in their lives.
Dammit don’t ask me these questions while doing homework
Persona 3
3-Yukari
2-Akihiko
1- Mitsuru
Persona 4
3-Naoki
2-Rise
1- my homie Yosuke
Persona 5
3- Sojiro
2- Sumire
1- Makoto
Based, tho i would include junpei on 3 instead of yuka-tan
1 - Nanako
2 - Nanako
3 - Nanako
4 - Shinjiro
5 - Naoto
As long as Junes is #6. Because, to Nanako, Junes is a person.
Kid named depressed store clerk Nanako memes
I'd swap 3 and 1 personally
Nah, Nanako sweeps both of them
Kanji, Naoto, and Futaba
Tanaka in C tier hurts my soul
He took so much of my money
40K in the grand scheme of things isn't too much, late game weapons/armor cost about that much per item.
But he gave you something so much more valuable in return, himself.
The real tier list were the friends we made along the way!
Still need to do the spinoffs when I have the time
Criminal! Fuuka and Maiko should be top S!
Only reason Fuuka is that low is that her social link is kinda mid
Not a food poisoning enjoyer i see...😔
Tanaka in C tier? Alright bro never cook again
3 actually, I don't think he's bad annoying sure but endearing.
If Morgana has supporters, I'm one of them.
If he has only one, it's me.
If he has none, I'm dead.
What’s your favorite Third-Tier Persona and ability?
Design-wise, it's definitely Diego, he looks so damn clean.
In terms of function though, it's probably Lucy, Life Wall is absurdly broken even by third-tier standards.
As much as life wall is very strong I still think the party wide heat riser on makoto is the best ability in the game bar myriad truths
Um, the AoE Heat Riser is on Yusuke, not Makoto. Makoto gets the AoE Debilitate which imo besides Diego is the worst third-tier no questions asked.
I kinda thought it was too limited, since late game boss enemies tend to spam almighty.
...Maruki doesn't have a single Almighty attack without a charge turn, neither does José, and Lavenza's only Almighty attack is her time's-up Lucifer Megidolaon. Those are the only bosses left by the time Life Wall is accessible.
By design-wise: Hereward
By gameplay: Agnes (edit)
Anat is Makotos second persona my guy
I love love looove Raoul. He is so dapper and I'm a huge sucker for bat motifs.
I wish joker had a third awakening where he gets Raoul. He’s just so cool. It’s criminal that he got cut.
Makoto's Persona being a god damn Motorcycle will never not be cool, so Agnes
For real, I remember being stupid mad when the second evolution made her persona stand up, third evo fixed that and made it even cooler
I think that’s kinda funny, because Anat is still a bike. In its summoning animation it transforms from bike to robot, so it’s presumably able to just become a bike again at any time.
Like bro are you really trying to tell me the MAIN CHARACTER who at the end of the story has DE,RCT,SD and two cursed techniques isn't top 10 at least? I think any placement from 10-6 is valid (I have him top 8), but outside of the top 10 is just weird to me. I also think people who have Maki/Toji out of the top 10 are weird too, like come on stop downplaying.
Yuji is 100% within the top 10 by the end of the series, I personally have him in either 5th or 6th place.
For me he’s always gonna be #7 - #5 in the top ten above or below Yuki and Yorozu
I NEVER see a scenario where Maki/Toji > Yuji 😭✌️
maki/toji>yuji isn’t that outrageus of a take yall make it seem
Tbh I just don’t even know at this point how much stronger or faster Maki / Toji are than Yuji. Yuji’s RCT + blood Ce + his already insane toughness just make him so goddam hard to put down.
>I NEVER see a scenario where Maki/Toji > Yuji 😭✌️
Nothing's wrong with that take???
I feel like with yorozu he wins more then he loses because his whole build is around killing reincarnated sorcerers
Yuki has ALOT of AP but yuji is very tanky so idk
Only way I could see it is if you scale MBA, Maki and Toji separately (and glaze them slightly above Yuji like I do), AND scale both Agito and Mahoraga then it can be valid.
Yuji clears agito
he absolutely does not unless he uses de and agito just doesn’t hit him, he’s getting turned into a red paste on the sidewalk
With domain I could see it but his regular punches+dismantles are gonna do jack shit. Agito ate a Gojo blue black flash to the stomach and was fine the next panel.
Throw in Takaba to top 1 and it’s the perfect scenario
It's pretty insane downplay, though I get it. He's a very handsome, kind young man, they hate him cause they ain't him.
A DE that’s effectively an instant win, requires soul damage to be defeated, plus a fully realised state that even Yuji’s normal punches can’t harm. I think his fully realised state is heavily undersold due to how he was immensely weakened before going into it
Because rankning characters in jjk doesn't actually make sense since mahito violates someone like hakari only to get violated by maki, who are both relative to each other. It's basically character a beats character b and c is stronger than b but loses to a because of a bad matchup. Most people don't realise this though so the ranking is always meh
Mahito beats Hakari because Hakari can’t damage Mahito’s soul even if Hakari is in jackpot he cannot hit Mahito’s soul.
No his Domain isn't an insta win. IT can be resisted and even Mahito questions if he can oneshot multiple people in Shibuya and Spirit Bodies durability falls off in comparison to the real top tiers in durability and using it gives up his advantage of being able to change his shape on the fly.
Also all Incarnated Sorcerers should be able to damage him with no issue and without his protection of IT he's not nearly as formidable especially given his fighting style assuming he's untouchable, he'll get blindsided at the start
Idle transfiguration can be resisted but not mahito sure hit. It's stated in the manga and the fanbook that Mahito sure hit is a sure kill just like gojo domain
Incarnated sorcerers don't have knowledge of the outline of their souls as the previous vessels soul is crushed with the Incarnated sorcerers.
Only Sukuna and Yuji do.
One, removing Gojo and Sukuna is a stupid way to go around things. And two, I'm going to do that anyways.
Takaba
Kenjaku
Yuta
Yuki
Yorozu
Yuji
Geto
Uraume
Toji
Maki
His technique could take any place in the Top 5, yes including number 1. Depending on how you account for conditions, it can be better than Copy (limited to 3 techniques with limited usage unless you include Rika), Limitless (requires Six Eyes), CSM (needs you to be strong enough to tame curses), Ten Shadows (doesn’t have Mahoraga unless you’re Sukuna). I’d probably put it at top 3, but it’s an insane technique
I mean, he was nerfed TBF and Shibuya Yuji ≈ Culling Game's Yuji
Narrator: Aside from Satoru Gojo of course
Why not including those two? Because Mahito would be down to 32nd instead of 30th?
His true form was so durable Yuji couldn’t even damage him with regular punches and needed a max output black flash just to knock him out of it because he was already incredibly weakened not to mention he took a black flash right before his transformation which fucked it up as well.
At 100% health and in his true form he’d be quite a lot stronger than Shibuya Yuji.
Mahito took more damage than Yuji in Shibuya from all the fights, while Yuji being healed 2 times. So it's hard to say about Mahito's stats.
Feel free to agree/disagree, these are my opinions, and it’s fine if you disagree with what I think.
Also, if you want me to, I can explain my thoughts on a character and why I placed him where they are.
And if you really want me to pick a favorite out of all of them then it’s Yusuke.
I love him.
It still amuses me how people often put Ohya in with completely horrible villains. I get it's just opinions. So, whatever. It's just funny how someone who rediscovers her will of exposing scum like Shido is on the same level of people who actively made the lives of others worse.
For the same reason Mishima is also always low, but Kasumi and Makoto are always high. Because people dont want good characters, they want clingy characters that make them feel like the protagonist.
Makoto ia boring af
Why is Shido not in the “NO” tier?
Mishima is the first confidant/social link I’ve seen where the player actively hates them.
By that, do you mean Ren? If so, absolutely not. Atlus just loves giving "punching bag" dialogue like they did with Ryuji. Atlus hates male confidants for god knows what reason
Aside from Yoshizawa, it felt like there was a "push" in some way for most of the female Thieves other than Futaba. It seemed lighter in Ann's case, mostly Ryuji (and kind of Ann herself?) asking how Joker feels about her. Makoto's confidant starts in the red-light district and is based around dating, which was obviously very romance-coded, and Haru's confidant (which I didn't finish) seemed to have her be crushing on Joker from the start. At the very least, she talks about marriage, is curious whether Joker has been in love with someone, and even states that she reconsidered her engagement because of Joker.
Ah that makes sense. I did actually find that whole reveal interesting.
I tend to have really really hot takes. For example, the other characters in my bottom three are Akechi and haru 💀
I guess so yeah. Personally I LOVE makoto so maybe I just didn’t notice since I was picking every flirt line I could anyways lol. I’ve also heard that same sentiment but with Ann instead of makoto.
I do feel like it was pushed like REALLY hard with yoshizawa tho. Like, her metaverse outfit is just jokers but leotard version lmao.
Fair enough, honestly I’m just glad Kasumi, Haru and Futaba are in the “do anything for them” tier because like same
I understand yoshizawa is a fan favorite but I just don’t get why.
For me her personality is annoying but the biggest issue is how hard they push the joker x yoshizawa ship.
What makes you like her? I would love to understand why. (It won’t change my opinion but I’ll be a bit more understanding)
Mishima is the goat dude, having a negative character arc is totally realistic especially for him. He's genuinely in my top 10 of all these games.
Yeah, he's not even in my top 3 (Nobara, Geto and Todo) but that doesn't mean he's not a good protagonist, quite the contrary. Things have subsided in that regard but I remember all the slander against him, that he was out of focus (proven otherwise), not relevant or not interesting.
He's kind, he's a good friend, he cares about others, despite the circumstances he still pushes forward and even though power wise he's not (initially) that special, I still enjoy his fights the most, he does a lot with what little he had initially to distinguish himself from more flashier sorcerers and that's fine.
Also never minded him not being in the spotlight all the time, leave that in the 90s or to light novel protagonists.
Same here. Yuta or Gojo? Nope, Yuji would always be the best choice for the protagonist of jjk.
He is never strong enough to protect anyone around him, he's thrown into chaos time and time again and have to lose something everytime. All he's got are his ideals, using which he faces Sukuna who embodies the logic of jjk's world, and only he reached Sukuna or beat him in the battle of ideals and ended this cycle of cursing each other or took down Mahito (again, ideologically) who was the curse of humanity.
Similar traits to Naruto, it makes them the perfect main characters.
I love Naruto but I just have one small criticism, he mostly relies on blind optimism. Like how will you make things right? "Idk I just will." Which isnt bad in itself cuz that's his theme but sometimes it feels like a get-out-of-jail-free card
Like against Nagato, Pain had him completely shut down but in the end Naruto won over him pretty similarly. "Just believe in me." Why this doesn't really work is cuz Pain had this exact thing logically beaten.
I like it from Nagato's pov but from Naruto's pov, its kinda meh
This sounds like I dislike him but it's really just a small issue I have
I really liked Yuji's entire thing with Mahito. Yuji and Todo vs Mahito is my favorite fight too.
I’m a member.
In general, Yuta fans I’d say don’t dislike Yuji so much as they dislike how Yuji fans refuse to stop going after Yuta.
I also do.
But like, this is the coldest take known to man. I legit don’t think I’ve met someone who actually dislikes Yuji.
He is built off a the happy and empathic MC trope, but has things that make him different:
-He feels like a real person for one. For example: he has hobbies outside of the main gimmick of the show and even bonds with an important side character over one of them.
-He is genuinely challenged in his beliefs constantly and must reconcile them with reality. The answers he finds are spoilers for an anime discussion thread so I will not go further.
-He has great and varied interactions with almost every important character he shares screen and panel time with. It is never the same style of interaction. Each character we see him with brings out a new side of his personality.
-Power of teamwork/friendship is actually utilized. He doesn’t simply power up because of friends. He actually works together with them.
I view it more as people just think there's so many good characters worthy of being the protag, Yuta and GoJo, that Yuji has to share the spotlight. Havent seen anyone seriously hate yuji tbh.
Yes the manga would’ve been so shitty if Yuta was actually mc😭
Man, 100% with ya. Yuji ain't your typical "damsel-in-distress" shonen MC. Dude's got grit, and ain't afraid to show it.
Fr, yuji is a breath of fresh air to me ❤️
Nah. A generic shonen MC would be someone like Luffy or Natsu. Yuji is a fairly deep character for a shonen battle manga.
Who is the best person? In my opinion it’s Yagami but I’d like to hear what you all think!
Imo it's Ichiban by a fairly wide margin. Ichiban's ideal life is taking time to help people who have been left behind or abandoned by society because he believes it's never too late in life to work toward your dreams.
Ichiban unironically made me a better person in real life.
Ichiban is such a good person,he had a positive impact on the dragon of Dojima
I was dreading moving on to Y7 because I was pissed Kiryu was gone. Ichibans really really REALLY growing on me.
to me, it's yagami. he's optimistic but also he understands that sometimes there is no easy answer for the problems at hand. I think both kiryu and ichiban are little too stubborn for my tastes, I enjoy a character who can occasionally just let things go, and yagami has grown through his games to know how to do that. he's vulnerable in a way that I admire as well, I never felt like I had to worry for ichiban or kiryu, but there are parts where yagami felt so realistic as a protagonist that I didn't know if he'd survive or not.
Kiryu and Ichiban are heroes, Yagami is a person, a human, and I think its shown well through all his interactions
Heroes that join the Yakuza tho, like smh I know these are videogames but cmon people. Even if they are not being absolute psycopaths, and they didn't join for wrong reasons and help people to a degree, they had to extort small businesses from time to time. We only see the good moments.
Agreed. I felt like Ichiban is a little bit too Golden Retriever-y to me. Yagami to me is good to the good people but is not afraid to be an asshole to the bad guys
if no one got me, i know ichiban got me.
even if i tried to kill him, he'd forgive and trust me.
Ichiban is my optimistic goat and I wish I had a friend like him in real life
it's not like any of them are particularly great at dating. the love of kiryu's life is his foster sister, ichiban proposed on the first date, akiyama apparently chases girls to other countries... the only ones I feel like would be decent partners are saejima and shinada.
Not even a contest, guy is just an instant classic.
