Waterproof and Durable Options
For those engaging in water-based activities like kayaking or rafting, a waterproof case is essential. The Sea to Summit TPU Guide Waterproof Case is recommended for its flexibility and comfort when stored in tight spaces [1:1]. Catalyst Waterproof Case for iPhone 14 Pro is praised for its durability and ability to maintain picture quality
[2:3]. Pelican cases are also suggested for their floating capability, although they may cause overheating on hot days
[1:3],
[2:11].
Heavy Duty Protection
For rugged outdoor activities, heavy-duty cases like the OtterBox Defender series are highly recommended. These cases provide robust protection against drops and impacts [4:2],
[5:8]. Mous cases have also received positive feedback for their ability to withstand significant impacts, such as falling off a motorcycle
[5:5],
[5:9].
Running and Hiking Solutions
For runners and hikers who prefer not to hold their phones, options like the FlipBelt and various running belts are popular choices. These belts securely hold phones and other essentials without causing discomfort [3:1],
[3:2]. Leggings with pockets are another practical solution for carrying phones during runs
[3:12].
Budget-Friendly Alternatives
For those seeking budget-friendly yet durable options, brands like I-Honva offer Otterbox Defender-like protection at a lower price point [4:1]. Spigen Tough Armor is another affordable choice that provides reliable protection against drops and water exposure
[5:2],
[4:4].
Considerations Beyond the Discussions
When selecting a phone case for outdoor activities, it's crucial to consider the specific conditions you'll be facing, such as water exposure, potential impacts, and ease of access. Additionally, ensure compatibility with your phone model and check user reviews for real-world performance insights.
I’m looking for some help finding a good waterproof phone case for boating. Im a raft guide and a kayak instructor so having my phone on me is a must when working. I have an iPhone 16 pro max and I’m looking for a sleek/slim waterproof case I can keep in my clamshell pocket of my pfd. I know my phone is rated for a max depth of 6 meters for 30 minutes max but, I’m often in the water way longer than that. The reason for having my phone on me is for immediate feedback for clients who I am instructing or for emergency purposes. Admins delete if this post is not allowed. Any suggestions would be nice thanks!
Most phones are ip68 or better which is usually plenty for a shallow river. I use a basic waterproof bag style phone holder with a lanyard and float. You really need to prioritize it floating and staying with you. Water proof doesn't help if it's at the bottom of the river.
I've used pelican cases like this
Last me a few seasons and my phone was fine. However, on those hot summer days, my phone has overheated in those things
I have a pocket on my pfd that I sprayed with waterproof spray. I keep my phone in there if I need to have it on me.
Try it with a book of matches first. If you get out of the water and you can light a match that was in your pocket, it should be good for your cell phone.
Not Lifeproof. They break or have the camera part get scratched or have the charge port stop being waterproof, way too fast and often. Been using a Ghostek one from Amazon after trying a bunch. $30
Most cheap waterproof phone cases have that big lump of shitty plastic across the top, which is what makes them annoying and hard to squeeze into a PFD. I can't stand those things and most of the time they're barely waterproof to begin with.
If you want something more flexible, Sea to Summit makes some great phone-sized dry bags that are entirely soft and flexible. They're definitely spendier but they're a lot more comfortable and easier to get into your clamshell. I use one of these for spare GoPro batteries and it works great.
Personally, I just keep a bag of waterproof charging port plugs in the truck and throw my phone straight in my PFD with no additional protection other than the normal case I have on it day to day. Even that plug is technically overkill with modern waterproofing, but it's nice to not have the "moisture detected in charging port" warning every time I get off the river. With these I've never had a single problem with my bare phone in my PFD for long days in and out of the water.
This is really helpful. Thanks. I wasn’t aware of charging port plugs until now!
This was my second year with a Bluefin board and I absolutely love it. However I really don’t like the phone bag that comes with it as it got wet inside once and I haven’t been able to clean it properly so that pictures taken through it look any good.
Do you have any experience with model-specific phone cases? I just got a new phone and am willing to buy myself a case which fits only this phone but is waterproof and doesn’t impact the picture quality while it is in the case.
Any suggestions are welcome.
If it helps, I have an iPhone 14 Pro
So, YMMV and all, but since the iPhone lost the old-fashioned headphone jack, they've been waterproof. So, in my view, the biggest risk is loss rather than immersion. So I run one of these on my normal phone case, zipped into my PFD pocket. Not ideal, but it seems to work OK.
I use one of those as well. You can also get little plugs for the charging port to avoid the "water in charging port" message
Yea, I need one of these. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and I’ve just been slipping it under the bungees
They should be waterproof, but I don‘t want to risk too much as these things are way to expensive to replace
This is awesome
Stop messing with those flimsy bags. Get the Catalyst Waterproof Case for iPhone 14 Pro. It's tough, seals tight, and won't ruin your pics. Perfect for your Bluefin board adventures!
Whilst iPhones (and most other modern phones) are water resistant pleassseee be aware that ANY amount of damage on your phone will instantly reduce its level of water resistance. That tiny chip in the corner of the screen? It’ll let the water in. The time you took your phone to a 3rd party store to get a new battery? The waterproof seal was broken the second the guy opened up the phone. Charging port feels loose? Boom water will go straight in.
You get the gist, be careful out there!
That’s why I am looking for a good fitting waterproof case.
I know my guides for the canyoning trip I took lately had some waterproof cases, but I didn’t ask what brand they were.
I've been using these ones: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016K5TBKS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They've worked great for me. I can unclip from the lanyard to take photos.
Do you take the phone out of it to take photos? I have one of these and don’t want to take it out all the time but the photos just don‘t look good through the plastic.
Majority of the time I take photos with the phone inside it. If I remember I smooth the case out and remove any water, then it takes pretty good photos. But yeah, sometimes they don't come out. I would like to get a GoPro or other outdoor camera at some point.
Pelican ones that float. Generally ~$20 for one or $30 for two on Amazon.
I really hope naming the kind of phone I have doesn’t come across as me trying to brag- I’m not. Just trying to explain how big my phone is ☹️
I have a running belt that holds my phone and i can clip my keys into it. There is room for more stuff i just don't tend to put more in there. I like it as it fits on my hips and doesn't cause me to get any hotter than i do already! It was about £20 off the internet but there is probably a range of prices.
Which one do you have?
Flo fitness running belt. I think unless your phone is getting toward the size of a small tablet it would probably fit? The internet will probably give you more official dimensions :)
I just shove it down my sports bra. Nike’s pocket.
I've just ordered a flipbelt; I heard a lot of good things about it.
I have a watch that does GPS, Music etc so can just wear that
Ahhhh! I really want one but currently can’t afford one at the moment. Maybe one day! Happy you have one and are putting it to use :)
I have a belt that expands to fit mine - works really well. Got mine off Amazon
Which brand do you have?
Mine should arrive tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes!
I will now only buy leggings with pockets for this reason. I have had success with some Target brand leggings that have pockets. I do have to test to make sure the weight of the phone doesn’t pull them down, but so far no wardrobe malfunctions! I do have a flip belt also, but I don’t like having to sometimes readjust it. I’m a bigger lady and it doesn’t fit around my hips like I would like it to. Pockets have been far more reliable for me.
My flipbelt arrived yesterday and tried it on my run. It's amazing. Has a secure thing for my keys, and my phone fit perfectly. Didn't even notice I was wearing it, so it's just perfect for me.

They're not big at all and you could even wear it under your shirt if you prefered!
I’m going to summer camp for two months this summer. I have a very flimsy, pretty case on my iPhone 15 right now, and I am looking for a heavy duty preferably water proof phone case. I will be in the mountains, doing high ropes and running around a lot. I also do not want to spend 50$ on a phone case. Any brand recommendations that are on the cheaper end, but still will protect my phone?
So I wouldn’t worry to much about waterproof, the iPhone 15 is rated at 30 minutes to 6 meters (20 feet) and most phone cases are rated for less.
In terms of good value, the popular answer is otterbox, something like the defender series. They are rugged and I’ve dropped my phone many times with their slimmer commuter series with no breaks.
The defender for iPhone 15 is $45 on Amazon, but they also come with a warranty that is good for 7 years. I’ve replaced two cases, one for each newer iPhone I’ve had from my cracking the case taking it on and off.
Peak Design used cases!
I have a Spigen Tough Armor MagFit on my 15 Pro and I like it very much.
I-Honva brand on Amazon. No name version of the Otterbox Defender for around $12 USD. If you find the side buttons click too easily just trim the inner rubber a bit.
I wouldn’t bother with a waterproof case, the plastic front layer most have are really annoying. Just keep it backed up regularly and pray your phone’s water resistant gaskets aren’t worn down if an incident does occur.
I know it's not quite a buy it for life product, but I'm trying to get as close as possible.
I've broken 2 phones beyond use or repair this year due to dropping them. I've also had one die due to water damage in the past. I am having a hard time figuring out which cases are actually going to protect the phone vs just looking tough. I'm happy to have a bulky case and spend a fair bit, I don't need wireless charging, my main goal is to protect it from drops at all costs. Is a front + back case going to be better than a separate screen protector and case?
I have just gotten a Galaxy 53A, the case people most recommend is Spiggen Tough Amour (https://www.spigen.com/collections/galaxy-a-series/products/galaxy-a53-5g-case-tough-armor?variant=40391734493231) But this isn't a front + back combo, nor is it waterproof.
Here are some Front + Back, waterproof Combos I found:
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-5G-Waterproof-Protector/dp/B09Y1MRNWY?th=1
https://www.newcase.com.au/black-galaxy-a53-5g-waterproof-dirtproof-shock-proof-case/
How can I tell which ones are verifiably going to do a good job of protecting my phone from me and which just are only made to look strong?
I am 100% happy with my Spigen Tough Armor. I have used these cases through a couple of phone generations. My phone is waterproof (survived an accidental swim) Even carrying my phone in my pocket, the glass has survived just fine. I am active and not easy on my phone...but I have never broken the glass
Honestly , Ottorbox Defender is all you need. I've been buying these cases for about as long as smart phones have existed.
I'm in the trades so our phones get put through hell. Dropped off ladders, dropped onto concrete , in our tool belts with all sorts of metal and bits, dust, grime, you name it. The only time I have ever broken a phone in the past 10 years was when it was out of the case.
I've used the Defender for multiple models as well. That plus a decent glass screen protector and that's honestly about as good as it gets. Between children and work, this has worked great for me.
I think otterbox now owns lifeproof
Mous case has treated me well. Phone survived falling off my motercycle a few times.
My otterbox defender didn’t stop a 3 foot fall my mous can withstand anything
mine has let me down today, my entire back got smashed and i had my case on
Yea what phone were you using? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254827090?sortBy=rank If this is your issue than it's not the otterbox's fault...
My top 3 picks:
These brands have been consistent over the years. I tried Speck and OtterBox and both provided robust protection for my iPhone.
I use a Mous case on my iPhone. I don’t know if they make them for android, but I’ve dropped it so many times, and accidentally left it on the front wheel of a tractor, which I then proceeded to run it over with. Never had a broken screen since having one, which has been nearly 5 years.
Were you using the defender series? I mean those ones have like a second backing that you can also put on the front for when you aren't using your phone which may contribute to it not breaking but mous does sound good
That’s awesome, give them a go for sure! Back in 2020 I left my iPhone 8 on the front wheel of a JD tractor, I then proceeded to forget about it, and drive the tractor away. The back where went over the back of my iPhone and thanks to the Mous case, I still have the phone!
Just got a Pixel 3A and can't sort out the best options.
Spigen. So many options to choose from. For people who like slim, minimal cases to the bulkier more protective ones.
Spigen

(Looked for a subreddit for a question like this, no luck so here I am)
I've had some pretty high brand name cases. No match for my work life. I've gone through so many $1000+ phones and cheap phones are to glitchy for my work needs. I've bought almost every large brand name case (otterbox, speck, lifeproof, etc.) but they are no match for my 4 foot drops I guess. What do yall have for me? Idc if my phone is a brick with the case, and I'm picking up an s22 ultra so a case for this one that can handle the phone grim reaper is a must.
I used to have the same thing and then just bought rugged phones which seem to survive me.
Currently had the Doogee S95 Pro for about a year and a half now. Due to upgrade soon enough.
You're looking for this guy right here dope af IDK if it ever made it to market
Unfortunately, it is not in the market and last was only being developed up to the iPhone X 🥲
Don't have an s22, but this looks pretty good, it's thick on the corners
That's exactly what I need 😭
The S22U is big and heavy and I don't want to worry about it falling and it being secure on my person when I'm working out. What options have you guys found that work for you?
I'm really considering one of those over the shoulder leather cases for mine. I'm female and walk. It would prob flap around on a run tho. 🤔
Nope. I use a Galaxy Watch 5 with LTE and some Galaxy Buds. I can stream my music and answer any important calls or texts should I need to. Works great.
Same, but with a Garmin Venu 2. It's so much better doing my workout without having to worry about my phone.
The old Gear s3 also works
Galaxy gear fit 2 pro, and galaxy buds for the win
My shorts & track wear have zipped pockets.
funny how i feel s22 ultra as small and easy to use because of back gestures. i used 13 pro for few days and even though screen size is small my fingers got pain due to finger gymnastics to go back.
For running, I like to wear a phone belt. Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Running-Waterproof-Reflective-Fitness-Workout/dp/B091D23VBK/
This is the way

Thanks for the tip! Now I can finally answer underwater calls from the fishies!
Slim and protective, kickstand , MagSafe , grips on the side, look pretty cool, and they don’t use cheaper materials. So far these have been the best cases for sure
I have this one ordered should be here tomorrow
I currently have the Frosted Shield installed, I ordered and just received the case similar yours(minus the S-Pen holder). I installed it, and it made the phone feel heavier, and doesn't help with the wobble too much. Also, the lens/kickstand doesn't close all the way unless you push where it's mounted to the case, otherwise it stays just above fully closed. It's a nice case, but just didn't check any more boxes than the Frosted Shield version has for me.
Would you mind sharing another perspective of your fold 7 case also hows the thickness of this case? I was planning to get the exact case for my fold. Thanks in advance.
It's a very thin case
Can you add more pictures of the vase with the phone from different angles? I've been considering this case from AliExpress but not sure how it would look entirely
Doesn't the kickstand tip over?
Also checks the box for looking like an abomination
Best phone cases for outdoor activities
Key Considerations for Outdoor Phone Cases:
Durability: Look for cases made from rugged materials like polycarbonate or TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) that can withstand drops, impacts, and harsh conditions.
Water Resistance: Choose cases with an IP rating (like IP67 or IP68) to ensure they can withstand splashes, rain, or even submersion in water.
Grip: Opt for cases with textured surfaces or rubberized grips to prevent slipping, especially in wet or sweaty conditions.
Weight and Bulk: Consider lightweight options that don’t add too much bulk to your phone, making it easier to carry during outdoor activities.
Compatibility with Accessories: Ensure the case is compatible with any outdoor accessories you may use, like car mounts, bike mounts, or charging docks.
Recommendations:
OtterBox Defender Series: Known for its rugged protection, the Defender Series offers multi-layer defense against drops, dust, and water. It also includes a built-in screen protector.
Lifeproof FRE Series: This case provides waterproof protection (up to 2 meters for 1 hour) and is designed for outdoor use, making it ideal for hiking, biking, or water sports.
Spigen Tough Armor: A more affordable option, this case offers dual-layer protection with a slim profile, making it suitable for everyday outdoor activities without excessive bulk.
UAG (Urban Armor Gear) Monarch Series: This case combines a rugged design with a lightweight build, offering military-grade protection while maintaining a stylish look.
Choosing the right case depends on your specific outdoor activities and the level of protection you need. Always check user reviews and ratings to ensure the case meets your expectations for durability and functionality.
