What Redditors are Saying

Best Places to Buy Cheap Home Decor Online

Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace is frequently recommended for finding affordable home decor. It allows you to browse local listings, which can be particularly useful if you're looking for unique or secondhand items [1:1], [2:4], [3:6], [4:6]. Joining community groups in more affluent areas can increase your chances of finding high-quality items at lower prices [2:4].

Thrift Stores and Estate Sales

Thrift stores are a popular choice for budget-friendly decor, offering the chance to find unique pieces at low prices [3:4], [4:1], [4:3]. Estate sales are also recommended, with one user suggesting signing up for weekly emails that list local estate sales [3:3], [3:5].

Retail Chains

Several retail chains offer affordable home decor options. Marshall's, TJMaxx, and HomeGoods are known for their unique and inexpensive pieces [2:1], [4:2]. Target is also mentioned as a good source for decor, especially during sales [5:1].

Online Marketplaces and Websites

Etsy is suggested for finding handmade and unique decor items, though it can be pricey [2:3], [5:6]. Society6 offers boho-style decor and often has promo codes and sales [5:2]. Urban Outfitters and H&M have home sections that occasionally offer discounts on quirky and stylish items [5:1].

Creative Solutions

For artwork, downloading digital prints from Etsy or free art from the National Gallery of Art and printing them locally can save money [4:1], [4:4]. Grouping smaller frames or thrift store finds into larger displays is another cost-effective way to decorate [4:5].

These suggestions provide a variety of options for sourcing affordable home decor online, catering to different tastes and styles while keeping budget constraints in mind.

I’m moving and need a lot of things small and big, from a couch to plates and silverware. I’m looking for websites that are very low cost and more points if it’s not well know!

Where do you find estate sales? I can never figure out how to locate them. I know that sounds silly, but if I type in estate sales I feel like it gives me spam listings.

I like going to thrift stores best! Savers is my favorite. You can see the items in person and they're pretty cheap especially compared to new.

What style and vibe do you want? If you're just going for cost these are the best places by decor type imo

  1. Retro Decor: Polkaat
  2. Flatware and Towels: Target
  3. Bath Accessories: CB2
  4. Bath Towels and Shower Curtain: Olive and Linen
  5. Furniture: Estate sales and antique auctions (varies by location), for wood refinishing, local services are best.
  6. Window Curtains: Crate and Barrel
  7. Curtain Rods: Bed Bath and Beyond
  8. Lighting: Perigold or Wayfair (Robert Abbey products recommended)
  9. Rugs: IKEA or HomeGoods
  10. Wall Art: Online or thrift stores (varies by location).
  11. Decorative Pillows: Amazon or thrift shops.
  12. Plants: Local nurseries or home improvement stores.
  13. Bookshelves: IKEA or second-hand shops.
  14. Mirrors: HomeGoods or thrift stores.
  15. Storage Baskets: IKEA or dollar stores.

Where to buy decor that isn’t $$$

Posted by bemer33 · in r/HomeDecorating · 2 years ago

Me and my partner will be living together without a roomate for the first time and we want to decorate our home in a more “adult” way (not command stripping random $10 posters everywhere) especially for our bedroom, this is the first bedroom I’ll ever have that doesn’t have my desk and all of my belongings shoved into it and I really just want to make it look like a nice adult room and not a dorm room. Does anyone have any places they find luck buying décor preferably artwork that won’t break the bank?

Home goods, discount stores like Ross, TJMaxx, etc etc. I have this giant ocean/reef canvas photo print in my bathroom I got for 25 bucks. They have a lot of tacky nonsense but they also have really cool finds.

Thrift stores and big lots!

9 upvotes on reddit
Loose_Molasses8884 · 2 years ago

For art: Thrift stores; digital download from Etsy and then print it at Costco/Staples (or other printing stores).

For decor: Thrift stores, sales of "brand" furniture stores, Home goods definitely has affordable decor pieces but depends on your taste (and I guess luck). We don't have Target here in Canada, but if you are in U.S. I've heard Target also has nice decor pieces sometimes- and perhaps Amazon?

Create bigger art from smaller pieces using repetition. Example, I found some chunky dollar store frames and bought a whole bunch, then printed off travel pictures we has taken just on our color printer. (4x6 size). Grouped them as one massive item.

I also bought random frames from thrift stores. Cut out posters so they fit in the frames and collaged them up the stairwell in one home.

The trick to grouping things to look good is to clump them together a little on the tight side and then leave the rest of the wall blank. It creates the equivalent to a large art piece, and coupling that with blank negative space, it looks intentional and … eclectic or bohemian? Either way, it becomes decor and not clutter, even if it is cheap and random stuff. You can even group small shelves into the mix for other items.

If you find an artist you like on Society6 you may be able to find them on Etsy and buy a digital print for super cheap. You can have the art printed and delivered on any number of sites for very little. I did this to get some very large prints for my old place! I found a custom frame seller on Etsy for cheap cheap, too. Good luck!

Thrift/charity shops!!! Facebook marketplace, gumtree, freegle, eBay, Etsy, antique shops, garage sales... If you can be patient searching, secondhand is great value, more unique items, and can be longer lasting if you find the high quality older furniture before it was all mass produced. It also massively helps the planet. 🥰

Let me know if you find any good sites! I really want a ton of the stuff on Etsy but it's so damn expensive and I'm trying to find alternatives.

2 upvotes on reddit
Silver-Secret1030 · 3 years ago

Believe it or not, Urban Outfitters. Browse and note the stuff you like, and then check the prices on them regularly for a sale. Sales are often 40% off and their items tend to take months, sometimes years, to be discontinued. I'm a big fan of some of their quirky, unique ceramic or terracotta side tables. Also, H&M has a surprisingly nice home section on their website, but their popular items go fast, often in mere days, and don't come back so if you fall in love with something, grab it. I'm also a big sucker for Threshold by Studio McGee at Target. Didn't care for many of Threshold's past collaborations, but some of their collab with SM has really hit on all of my decor bittons.

What are some good sites to order UK-based homeware and furnishings from these days?

Posted by mana-miIk · in r/HomeDecoratingUK · 6 months ago

A couple of years ago I used to order a lot of homeware and furnishings from Amazon, but as most of you have probably noticed, within the last 5 years specifically, it's been absolutely flooded with Chinese sellers and dropsellers and has turned into a more expensive version of Temu, where easily 9 out of every 10 listings is some cheap shite that won't last longer than 6 months.

I've recently purchased my first home and looking to buy good quality bath mats, lampshades etc., things like that. Are there any sites and/or suppliers you would personally recommend?

Marks and Sparks are great for bedding, towels, and bath mats

Dunelm are good for throws and pillows

I really like Habitat (Argos) for reasonably priced furniture bits (not the best quality, mdf, but not horrific)

I wouldn't touch Dunelm with a barge pole, bought a new bigger house 8 months ago so needed stuff like toilet roll holders, bed spreads, shower shelves.. most of this stuff I bought is already spoiled and in need of replacement. There returns policy and assistance is awful (like spent £150, £50 part payment on gift card, returned £40 of stuff and it had to go back on a gift card). Just awful. Never had any issue with John Lewis, Next, M&S even Asda, Lidl and Morrisons is fine for the price - you get what you pay for with these guys. Nicer stuff I'd go with Etsy, load of Neptune copies on there for a fraction of the price! Also Futon Company have nice stuff, wait for the sales though.

Yeah, different issue but their delivery team (furniture) was a disaster for us at the end of last year. Damaged the house. I haven’t heard a peep in response to my complaint. Zero intention of ever shopping with them again.

1 upvotes on reddit
mana-miIk · OP · 6 months ago

It's funny you should mention this, I'm actually tangling with Dunelm right now over their appalling delivery logistics and customer service.

tl;dr I bought a rug from them, paid extra for quicker shipping so it'd arrive on my day off. Never arrived, said it'd delay to the next working day. Never day, never arrived again. Got onto their live chat customer support, they agreed to send a replacement, and the replacement hasn't fucking arrived either.

I don't even want a refund, I just want the rug! I'll never order anything from them ever again.

IKEA may seem too obvious but it does have some good value items, especially if you avoid the cheapest ones and pay attention to the materials. Next also has a decent selection these days. La Redoute is based in France but no issues ordering to the UK.

OP, you may want to better define what reasonably priced means to you. For me, RH is expensive, but CB2 is reasonable. For someone accustomed to shopping with interior designers, RH is reasonable. For others, CB2 is pricey but IKEA is reasonable. When you say reasonable, what do you think is a reasonable cost for a sofa or dining table? That might help set our barometers.
