Yes it is

I find the plain leather didn't last massively long (acid really easily) but I got crushed velvet ones that are doing well.

The soles are fantastic, super comfy and light for how thick they are.

Doc Martins has a good vegan range if you are into them. I’ve got some boots from them that are pretty great.

Shoes as a vegan

Posted by No-Turnover9764 · in r/vegan · 2 months ago

I'm vegetarian since i'm 12 and i'm actually trying to become vegan . I don't think the food part will be a problem for me since i didn't have any difficulty when I became vegetarian (even though France is not really a good place to be one) but i have no idea on where buy vegan shoes. I still have leathers one and I don't have problem wearing them but I know they wont last long since i can't take care of them. Is there specifics sites , since i don't see vegan categories on the classics ones or do I need to check one by one ?

Piggy backing to this comment, I highly recommend Wills. I bought the Western boots and I adore them, they're so well made and very very comfortable. My boyfriend has shoes from here and they've lasted him 10 years. They also deliver to the EU.

  • brands with vegan options: Veja, Buffalo, Dr. Martens, Rebook, Puma (they have few certified vegan models but they are for sports and for running they seem quite successful), New Rock, Skechers (they have quite a few vegan models), TUK, Demonia (has a vegan collection), Xero shoes

  • brands that all their sneakers are vegan: Koii Footwear, LA MODA, V. Gan, Nae Vegan Shoes, BeFlamboyant, Flamingoslife

I really recommend Bohema Clothing from Poland. They sew their shoes here and are great quality, they look almost brand new after one and a half years of use (summer and winter), aside from being dirty lol. And they use plant based materials!!!

Will get downvoted likely. But buy second hand leather shoes, better for the environment and will last a hell of a lot longer than vegan alternatives. Can get one pair of shoes to last 5 years rather than having to buy 10 pairs of plastic shoes in the same time that end up in landfill for 1000s of years. Doesn't contribute to anymore slaughter of animals as it is second hand.

I'd been buying mine from Vegetarian Shoes based out of the UK.

Same. They're based in Brighton if you want to try them on but you can buy online and return if they don't fit. My steel toe cap boots are over 10 years old and have survived multiple muddy festivals so they're good quality.

ETA: Just realised you're in France so it might be a bit far to travel to try them on 😂 Brighton's a nice place to visit though

Is there a site like barnivore for shoes? Whenever I'm looking for shoes, if you type in vegan the results are much more expensive shoes. When you've been looking for shoes before, aside from emailing the company directly, is there a simple way to find out if they use non-vegan glue

There are some companies that produce less expensive shoes that have some peta approved shoes. You can search for the peta certified UK program and find brands within your price range. I've also had good luck searching for some of the pricier vegan brands like will's vegan, vegetarian shoes, and Matt & Natt on vinted or ebay. I have a few pairs I bought lightly used from those brands for £20ish or less.

When looking for inexpensive/affordable vegan shoes, your best options tend to be places like Asda (Which, in honesty aren't exclusively vegan. You have to look around a fair bit). I cannot think of any specific site like barnivore however :/ It's a great idea though! Here's a guide from the vegan society which may be of assistance :)

Vegan shoes/sneakers

Posted by swankmaster5000 · in r/vegan · 2 years ago

Anyone else really struggle with buying footwear? I've had the same pair of vans for 7 years, but my feet really hurt when I wear them and theyre starting to fall apart. I'm trying to find some other sneaker that might hurt my feet less (less flat) and I'm really struggling to find sneakers that I like without leather. Buying new shoes made out of a cow's skin would bother me. a lot. Every time I think I found a sneaker I like, it's from some fast fashion/drop shipping website that might as well be worse. I like the way shoes such as Nike air forces or dunks look but they are out of the question. I want something in good quality that are vegan. Any tips?

New Balance has a number of styles that are all synthetic - no leather or animal glues used. Either search for vegan New Balance or read what each style is made with.

Here is one vegan shoe New Balance makes https://www.newbalance.com/pd/made-in-usa-990v5-vegan-friendly/M990V5-38570.html

I’d say watch out for this and be really careful. I wore new balance for about ten years but since they’ve become increasingly more trendy again, some of the styles I used to enjoy swapped out for leather.

Vans nowadays have footwear that aren't just for skateboarding/bmx.

They offer a wider variety and I'm pretty sure last time I was on their website, there genuinely was a vegan option when searching for shoes, which I thought was pretty chill of them.

But if you're going for Vans specifically, I think any shoes without the Sidestripe should all be leather free (unless you buy from the all leather selection)

Have you tried looking on a resale site like Poshmark, eBay, or depop? I usually try to buy everything second-hand for environmental and ethical reasons, and so I don't feel as bad about buying from an unethical brand since I'm not supporting them directly.

I'm a big fan of Vegetarian Shoes (which thankfully don't contain cheese, they are all vegan)

These are my most recent pair, which are very stylish, though may need a trip to the cobbler fairly soon, I'm not sure the soles are tough enough for my use.

Their knock-off uggs and birkenstocks are both great too, I'm not quite sure what any of them are made off but they're not plasticy like some vegan shoes.

Definitely check out Ahimsa, a vegan shoe company based out of Brazil (but with super quick and free shipping to the US and Europe). They were also the world's first completely vegan shoe factory.

I just recently bought a pair of their chelsea boots, but I have owned a pair of their work boots too, which survived three brutal winters in Chicago. Seriously, cannot recommend them enough.

[DISCUSSION] Good vegan shoes?

Posted by [deleted] · in r/streetwear · 7 years ago

If you don't really think much about where your clothes comes from, it's easy to just totally forget it. But my first time buying shoes as a vegan I realized how restrictive it is. So many shoes are created with leather as the material. What are your recommendations for good vegan shoes?

To kickstart, I'll post what I know.

  • Vans Classic Authentic Canvas
  • Vans Classic Slip-on Canvas
  • Custom Slip-on, Era & 106 Vulcanized (the Custom Old Skool is NOT vegan)
  • Vans Sk8-Hi (True White ONLY)
  • Dr. Martens Vegan line
  • Rick Owens vegan Ramones
  • Adidas NMD
  • Adidas Ultra Boost
  • Adidas x AW Run

have you tried using secondhand sites like depop and ebay for those shoes? you can filter out by your size and can be more selective about what you want to buy rather than just considering whatever is in the thrift shop at that moment!

Key Considerations for Buying Vegan Shoes:

  1. Material: Look for shoes made from synthetic materials like microfiber, canvas, or recycled plastics. Avoid leather, suede, and other animal-derived materials.

  2. Brand Ethics: Research brands that are committed to vegan and sustainable practices. Many brands are transparent about their sourcing and production methods.

  3. Comfort and Fit: Ensure the shoes are comfortable and fit well. Check return policies in case you need to exchange sizes.

  4. Style Variety: Consider brands that offer a range of styles, from casual to formal, to suit your wardrobe needs.

  5. Price Range: Set a budget, as vegan shoes can vary widely in price. Look for sales or discounts to get the best deal.

Recommended Places to Buy Vegan Shoes:

  1. Online Retailers:

    • Amazon: A wide selection of vegan shoe brands.
    • Zappos: Offers a variety of vegan options with easy returns.
    • Etsy: Great for unique, handmade vegan shoes from independent sellers.
  2. Specialty Vegan Stores:
