What Redditors are Saying

Best Pontiac Sedan

TL;DR

  • Pontiac Grand Prix and Bonneville are often highlighted as top sedans.
  • The G8 is frequently mentioned for its performance and design.

Pontiac Grand Prix

The Pontiac Grand Prix is a recurring favorite among enthusiasts. It is praised for its reliability and iconic styling, particularly models from 1997 to 2003 [4:1]. The Grand Prix was known for its "Wider Is Better" marketing campaign and the supercharged 3800 Series II engine, which made it a sleeper hit capable of surprising many sports cars of its day [4:1]. Some users have fond memories of their first car being a Grand Prix, highlighting its lasting appeal [4:5].

Pontiac Bonneville

The Bonneville is another sedan that garners attention, especially the SSEI model, which is noted for its performance [3:4]. The 1958 Bonneville is also mentioned for its aesthetic appeal and rarity due to features like fuel injection, making it a desirable classic [3:1].

Pontiac G8

The Pontiac G8 is frequently recommended for those seeking a more modern option with strong performance credentials. It's often compared favorably against other Pontiacs for its V8 engine and overall driving experience [3:3][3:5]. The G8 GT variant, in particular, is highlighted for its power and handling, making it a standout choice for enthusiasts [3:3].

Other Notable Mentions

While not sedans, the Pontiac GTO and Trans Am are often brought up in discussions about the best Pontiacs overall. The GTO, especially models from the 1960s, is celebrated for its historical significance and muscle car status [2:1][2:2]. The Trans Am is noted for its iconic design and cultural impact, particularly the second-generation models [1:1][1:4].

In summary, if you're looking for a Pontiac sedan, the Grand Prix and Bonneville are solid choices, with the G8 offering a more modern and sporty alternative.

The best is the 1967 LeMans why ? Because thats what i drive in the summer oh and the best color ? Red of course

I disagree. The 1967 GTO is best. Why? Because that's what I've got. Signet gold beats red.

My brother bought a new 88 Formula with the 5 speed manual, ws6 suspension all that. White with a Tan interior. It was a fun car. He drove it until it started to fall apart. Dunno how many miles that thing had on it.

I agree - the 2m4 was horrible - the last two years of the GT were great!!!!

By best, I assume you have to mean power/fun/cool or reliability.

GM Iron Duke or 3800 are going to be reliable, with the exception of the fieros IMO. Late model v8s are pretty reliable and have good aftermarket still.

Cool is very subjective. 2nd gen firebirds (trans am and formula) are gonna be my top. I have a soft spot for the older GTOs and other 60s era BOP cars.

I have a soft spot for the 66 GTO as I own one, but the second generation Firebirds are iconic.

Although if you’re looking at a car which reliably ran forever and a frigging day, the 2001 Grand Prix my wife had was the master of it just kept running. It was right before COVID we ended up finally selling that thing. It just ran all the time. Never an issue ever

Yep. My 09 Pontiyoda Vibe has over 314,000 miles and shows no sign of giving up anytime soon. Burns oil but that’s normal. I drive 160 miles a day too and from work. Definitely got my moneys worth!

Is there a reason the G8 and GTO didn’t make your list?

You didn’t specify years but if money was of no concern for me I think the Pontiac I’d buy would be a 1958 Bonneville with the rag top. I just think they look great it’d be cool to have one with the fuel injection they offered just because of how rare that option was and they had silly 1950s things like the battery powered radio that you could pop out of the dash and carry with you.

1997-2003 Grand Prix. Wider Is Better marketing was super successful for generating sales, 3800 S2 became supercharged and it was a Mustang eating sleeper in it's day, and the styling was iconic for the brand at that time.

Very very small nitpick, maybe im biased, but i think the 04-08 grand prix should be the outline of the GXP version, considering its rarity of 12,000 produced and its completely different body kit, bumpers fenders side skirts all different, but maybe im biased bc i own one, also the others with GXP options would be cool though the G8 isn’t that much different by appearance

I still want a first gen Transport all these years later. 1992 GT with the 3.8L. Too bad they're all completely toast by now. Maybe it isn't apparent all these years later, but that van was fuckin' slick back then, especially when compared to the innumerable square cars from the '70s and '80s that were still on the road at the time.

GTO and G8 are similar cars, both based on Australian market Holdens, though the G8 is the more modern platform. Both are pretty damn good. Also keep an eye out for Chevy SS, also based on the Holden Commodore and on an even more up to date platform. Something like a WS6 is much more in the classic muscle car mold, much much less refined and less complex. You really can't beat the styling on the Firebird though. I've always loved these. Peak of modernized American muscle, before the retro craze set in, not trying to be anything they weren't. Interior on something like a G8 is a world apart from a Firebird, which is very much 90s GM style, which is to say terrible. All have the same LS1 engine, so you're good to go there, one of the all time greatest engines.

IIRC it's presumed that it is being marketed as a sports sedan because of the GS name and the turbo engine.....yet again this comes with a CVT only so I'm probably wrong 😂

AI Answer

best pontiac sedan

Key Considerations for Choosing the Best Pontiac Sedan:

  1. Model Year: Pontiac produced several sedan models over the years, with the Pontiac G6 and Pontiac Grand Prix being among the most popular. Consider the model year for reliability and features.

  2. Performance: Look for engines that offer a good balance of power and fuel efficiency. The G6, for example, had options ranging from a 4-cylinder to a V6, providing different performance levels.

  3. Interior Space and Comfort: Evaluate the interior space, seating comfort, and cargo capacity. The Grand Prix is known for its spacious interior, making it a good choice for families.

  4. Reliability and Maintenance: Research the reliability ratings and common issues for the specific model year you’re considering. The G6 generally has a good reputation for reliability.

  5. Features and Technology: Check for available features such as infotainment systems, safety features, and comfort options. Newer models tend to have more advanced technology.

Recommendation: The Pontiac G6 is often regarded as one of the best Pontiac sedans due to its combination of style, performance, and affordability. It offers a comfortable ride, decent fuel efficiency, and a range of engine options. If you're looking for something sportier, the Pontiac Grand Prix is also a solid choice, especially for its powerful V6 engine and spacious interior. Both models are generally available at reasonable prices in the used car market.
