Considerations Beyond the Discussions
While these recommendations provide a good starting point, consider your specific preferences such as the type of treatments you desire, the ambiance you're looking for, and your budget constraints. It's also beneficial to check for any seasonal promotions or packages that may enhance your spa experience.
I want to treat my wife to a nice spa. Do you have any recs (in Manhattan or Brooklyn)
So, I'll mention the Russian baths since no one else has. Russian spas are definitely not luxurious. Under no circumstances should anyone ever go to the Russian and Turkish baths - it's disgusting. In Manhattan Spa 88 is worth a visit. The Mermaid Spa in Brooklyn is probably the best of the bunch IMHO.
I’m a Turk and I know this firsthand! :) I’m sure you can find a nice one here and there but it is just so orientalist if you care about hygienic basics.
World Spa in Brooklyn just opened!
Will check them out, thank you
Sojo in Jersey and Bathhouse in Williamsburg are great options I didn’t see mentioned. FWIW I’ve been to a lot of spas (haven’t tried world spa) and Bathhouse is absolutely better than Great Jones in every way possible.
Thank you!
No problem. FWIW, Sojo is my favorite spa in the area, but I go to Bathhouse more because it's more accessible.
Great Jones spa is lovely and worth the splurge imho. You can also get her a treatment or package and just buy a day pass for yourself so you can hangout in the pools and saunas with her after.
Thank you!
Planning a potential day trip to NYC saturday. What’s everyones favorite spot in NYC? Will be in brooklyn in the afternoon but open to going anywhere thats recommended
it depends what you're looking for....Spa Club is small but has dry sauna and wet steamroom. Spa Castle in Queens is like a Korean Spa Disneyland...big, clean but pricey. If you're looking for "friends", Queens has this place called New York Spa and Sauna....dm me for anything specific or enjoy!
Yup those are the three main options. Pros/cons of each depending on what you’re looking for. Spa Club usually has cheap Groupons but you have to buy 24h in advance.
Something clean and nice would be cool. Nudity mandatory, not like sojo where its optional. Hard to know who is gonna be there but people my age (30s) would be cool
All I mentioned are mandatory nudity. Check out Spa club if you're in Manhattan and go to New York Spa and Sauna for "friends".
I prefer Male-only/female-only wet areas. Do all 3 of these offer that?
Enjoyed spa club https://www.reddit.com/r/eroticmalemassage/s/eoDggXxvgq
Looking for something under $500. Cheaper the better.
Aire. Best spa in the city with solid options.
https://beaire.com/en/aire-ancient-baths-newyork/experiencias
You need to be rich for that 😭 bathhouse in williamsburg is the same as Aire but cheaper
Only go to Bathhouse when it’s slow, it’s so awful when it’s packed. Great in the middle of a weekday tho
Ive been to Aire several times and it’s great. But I personally prefer Sojo spa in NJ because it’s bigger, they have more amenities, different hot and cold rooms, massages, treatments, Manhattan skyline views, food, indoor and outdoor pools, etc and their outdoor spa area is just incredible. Aire is fabulous, I think, for pure meditative relaxation as it’s so quiet and dark in there, and of course it’s in Manhattan.
AIRE was the "coolest" place, but for a better quality massage, Oasis Day Spa
Sojo Spa, AIRE Ancient Baths, Great Jones Spa and Bathhouse are frequently recommended in answer to similar questions per Spa Castle vs King Spa? from 18 days ago and its links to similar questions.
There’s also the spa on governors island or, if you wanna go over the bridge, Sojo in Fort Lee.
I love QC SPA on gov island! It feels like more of an experience than some of the smaller spas in the city.
I wanna send my wife and her friend here. Is the daily spa entrance a nice experience?
Yes super nice! It can get crowded during the summer so I highly suggest going on a weekday. The daily spa entrance includes access to all of the various saunas, steam rooms, relaxation rooms, etc plus the small pools that overlook the city. They serve alcohol which a huge plus for me! The food there is just ok and a little overpriced so I always try to eat before I go and save my money for alcohol. Overall it’s a really nice relaxing glam day. Even without booking a massage it’s still wonderful to just spend the day there.
Can’t recommended this enough- the outdoor heated pool area has a beautiful view of Manhattan
Does qc spa asked for identification when you come In ? I am turning 18 and would love to have the experience. But I know they say 21+

Note Aires scam… you’re only allowed two hours in the facility… your massages time is included in that 2 hour time frame.
I second AIRE Ancient baths in Tribeca! The bath experience itself is really enjoyable too and the hot stone massage after feels amazing.
You are wasting your money to go to a spa in NYC. Most spa practitioners are all just out of school, with only a few years of experience, and they have to do 6-8 massages per day so they're saving their hands, aka not working hard on you. Try real professionals in their private offices. You won't get hot stones or fancy cucumber water but these people will fix your problems:

Hi everyone,
My longtime girlfriends birthday is coming up and I want to treat her to a high end spa experience in NYC. Something we can do together that will be a few hour ordeal. We live in the west village but are open to suggestions anywhere in the city. Thanks in advance!
Aire ancient baths in Tribeca is very sexy!
Saw this one online and thought it looked really cool/has lots of options/can spend a lot of time there. Thanks for the suggestion
Second this!
Great Jones Spa is great! Almost all services include access to their water lounge where you can hang out for a while
Awesome. We are waterbenders so that works out
Bathhouse in Williamsburg. Enjoy
Thanks I’ll check it out
Four Seasons
Highly recommend the spa at The Carlyle. They recently renovated the space and it is exquisite - really old school, upscale fancy NYC feel. Excellent treatments, high end products & very professional, friendly staff as well!
I’ve also had great experiences at the Equinox hotel spa (Hudson yards) and the Lifetime Sky location. Less fancy than the Carlyle but still high end!
Is it $295 per person or per couple?
Didn’t see this one when doing research but it sounds great. I’ll check it out!
Going to a spa for the first time with a friend this Friday so it'll be one man and one woman. Preferably around Manhattan. Doesn't have to be a fancy place.
Sojo Spa Club (https://www.sojospaclub.com/). It's technically in New Jersey, but there's a shuttle from Manhattan that takes you directly there. It's $60 flat rate ($75 on weekends) for a bunch of access to amenities (saunas, baths, infinity pool, etc.), plus you can pay extra for other things if you want (massages, nails, etc.).
Premier 57 or Rejuvenex
I deleted your dupe. Please let it ride. Thanks.
Peninsula hotel is good. The multiple Bliss locations are good. Aire Baths in Tribeca are good.
In NYC proper ideally. I have been to Aire which is great but looking for new spot
A service at Great Jones Spa gets you access to their steam room, sauna, hot tub, and cold plunge for (I want to say) two hours before or after your treatment! I got a great massage there for my birthday and enjoyed the amenities afterward.
Just went there this week after all the rave on this thread - did not disappoint! $60 is a bit steep for 2 hours (1.5 hours is more accurate if you're cleaning up) but they're not hard up on it on weekdays.
Ooo! I just booked a weekday 9 am appointment-- i wonder if it will get busy?
on the smaller / boutique size and pricier, but spa diane barrière at fouquet's in tribeca. had a great massage there and they have a pool with hot tub, lounging nooks, and sauna / steam room you can use before and after treatment.
Following closely. There's the spa club in ktown but it was quite grim last time I went, and you have to be fully naked in the wet area.
that’s pretty normal in korean spas
You can wear a bathing suit, but most people are naked so you have to be okay with seeing others naked.
Oh and if you liked Aire, you may want to check out their soon-to-be-open (if it isn’t already) new location on the UES.
World Spa is the answer. Has several hot todays and many saunas. A bit deep into Brooklyn but it’s not a long ride on the F train (and getting cab there or back is easy)
was there last week and the hottest pool was 101, hottest tub 95
I want to buy my mom a giftcard to a spa but I want it to be a really good one. Long story short, she just lost her brother to cancer 2 weeks ago and her mother (my grandmother) a month ago and my dad has prostate cancer and probably won't be around this time in a year. She is going through a lot this year. So I want to get her a nice gift for a day in a spa just to get some relaxation. Any suggestion? Any part in the boroughs should be fine and price is pretty flexible.
My all time fave is Aire Ancient Baths, your mom will feel so pampered and blissed out by the time she's done.
>Best spa in NYC?
Can confirm! This place is so beautiful and relaxing. I will say it's expensive and there is a time limit.
The BEST, top line BEST spa I've been to in the NYC area is called Sojo Korean Spa in Edgewater, NJ. It's not too far a drive and there is also a free shuttle from Times Square.
This place makes it feel like you’re not in New York. Enough said.
I mentioned this in another post but I wanted to reiterate this. Sojo Korean Spa in Edgewater, NJ! It's about a year old, super clean and elegant. Beautiful inside and outside area. It has a heated infinity pool on the top floor and an array of different spa experiences! Winter price is $65 for an all day pass. Not sure about the spa treatment pricing. Such a great place! https://www.sojospaclub.com/
came here for this. I love Aire but it's pricey and the waitlist can be ridiculous. Edgewater sounds far but the spa has free shuttles that leave near port authority every hour/other hour depending on the time I think.
I would not recommend Sojo on the weekends. It’s wayyyy to packed now. Weekdays is fine and you get an all day pass to use the facilities if you get a spa treatment which is nice. I believe they have a solid cafe as well.
Sojo is awesome. You don’t even have to get a spa treatment and it’ll still be awesome. It’s nice because you just do everything at your own pace and do whatever you want. And it’s cheap enough for you to enjoy together?
SoJo Spa Club offers an unparalleled wellness experience with over 140,000 square feet of pools, specialty baths, saunas, treatment rooms, lounging and dining areas.
Don't get a massage there. I bought my girlfriend a package for her birthday and the masseuse somehow managed to sprain her leg. I Googled them afterwards and saw this:https://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/manhattan/tribeca-spa-gave-inappropriate-massage-unlicensed-masseuse-article-1.2656365
It's a great spa but their services are a cash cow (like most spas tbh) and their employees are not well vetted.
Aire Ancient Baths and Haybarn at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge were both very mediocre.
Shibui Spa at the Greenwich Hotel thought,
The Mandarin Oriental has multi-hour sessions so you might want to consider that as well but I would suggest the himalayan salt experience for sure. She'll spend at least an hours in the baths before the massage so that adds to the time.
I took my gf at the time to great jones' spa, it's in the West village. She loved it, totally recommend it!
So I got a groupon for a spa a couple of weeks ago and it was super simple, just a hot tub, dry sauna, wet sauna, and a shower/bathroom with tons of amenities. I never thought much of spas but I left the spa feeling like a different person, and I want to go back and kind of make it a habit.
Does anyone have some suggestions for a simple spa experience that is affordable to go to every month or so? I live in Queens and work in Midtown East, but I'm willing to go anywhere pretty much.
I have a couple buddies who swear by the Russian Bath house in the east village. Not the fanciest spa, but one of, if not the oldest spa in nyc. link
This one is a bit small and doesn't have that many amenities. But the best one you can get in Manhattan.
One of the best Russian bath houses is Neck road in Brooklyn. A bit of a shlep but the Q goes there so may work for you. Either way you should try it at least once.
Edit: can't type
I'd avoid spa castle and go to Sojo in Edgewater, NJ. Much cleaner, and soooooo many pools and saunas to visit. There's a shuttle that leaves every hour from 42nd & 8th.
While I agree that Sojo is extremely nice and new, it is really expensive to go on the weekend ($75). Worth it if you can make it on a weekday though.
Check Groupon. I’ve been to spa castle in Queens and it was a good time. I would try to get there early in the morning tho, it tends to get crowded
Spa Castle is the shit!
But yes, absolutely avoid the crowds.
King Spa is a Korean bath house in New Jersey that often has deals—they pick you up in a shuttle van in Ktown
Yeah they always have Groupons for like $20 and the spa is 24/7.
HOWEVER, there is a surcharge for overnight stays.
They also make you tip a fixed extra amount regardless of the quality of service which is kind of shitty (I mean, I'm not not going to tip, but IDG why they don't just raise the price of the service and say tip included if that's how they want to do it... )
Also shuttle can fill up so be early if you want to take that.
Having said that it's decent and i love the full body scrub.
I went on sunday and had a great time with my girlfriend! I second this suggestion
Lol yea their web presence is pretty bad. It’s a spa like many others. Massages, hot and cold pools to chill in, saunas, etc.
Korean Spas are your best bet. There's Groupons. If you're willing to spend a little more there's Sojo spa in New Jersey that has a free shuttle that picks up/dropoffs in Midtown. It's nicer but it can get really busy.
Looking into some birthday plans for the third weekend in October. Went to Soja last year but was thinking about switching it up just for fun. Heard about QC Spa and a few others; but I’m wondering the tea on which one is the best as I’ve only ever been to Soja!
There is always Spa Castle in College Park, Queens. That place is like a spa theme park.
Spa castle is temporarily closed!😩 was definitely on my list, thank you though✨
Look into the spa on Governors Island - it’s supposed to be quite nice!
Bought my wife a massage at Bath House in Williamsburg - she said it was really crowded (midweek) and almost exclusively couples.
I’ll check it out, thanks!
I've been to QC, Spa Castle and SoJo and much prefer SoJo. QCs price increases have made them wildly expensive and they really only have two not so hot spa pools outside and no proper hot tubs.
Sojo Spa, AIRE Ancient Baths, Great Jones Spa, Bathhouse and QC NY Spa are frequently recommended in answer to similar questions.
