TL;DR
Popular Wellness Retreats
The Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, and the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York, are frequently mentioned as top choices for wellness retreats near NYC. Kripalu offers various yoga and meditation classes with affordable accommodations [2:1]
[5:2]. The Omega Institute provides workshops focusing on wellness, personal growth, and creativity
[5:1].
Luxury Retreats
For those seeking a more luxurious experience, the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz is a popular choice. However, it may require a larger budget than $500 for a 2-3 day stay [2:3]. This location offers a serene environment perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation, though it might be best suited for those willing to invest more in their retreat experience.
Affordable and Short-Term Options
If you're looking for more budget-friendly or short-term options within NYC, consider attending wellness events such as those hosted by Chillhouse or Othership Yorkville. Chillhouse offers events designed to inspire rest and relaxation, although one user advised against spending money on them [3:1]. Othership Yorkville provides post-run reset sessions with activities like sauna and ice baths, which could be a refreshing option for a quick wellness escape
[1].
Mindfulness and Meditation Retreats
For mindfulness and meditation-focused retreats, Acem Meditation holds regular events at Scandinavia House and organizes retreats outside the city [4:2]. Additionally, the Namgyal Institute in Ithaca, associated with the Dalai Lama, offers daily meditations open to visitors, providing a unique spiritual experience
[5:2].
These options cater to different preferences and budgets, ensuring that there is something suitable for everyone looking to unwind and rejuvenate near NYC.

THIS IS LIT! Gonna be so much fun!
I just found out I have a long break from work starting 12/18 through New Yearās Day. It feels a bit late to book a big trip but I really donāt want to waste this time off.
I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for any kind of wellness resorts or retreats, either in New York or somewhere within driving distance, that would be nice to attend alone. My budget is around $500 for accommodations and services/classes, not including food/gas/etc. Ideally that would get me at least 2-3 days.
Iād be willing to look into spas, meditation, yoga, art classes, really anything. If all of that seems well over budget, Iād appreciate other ideas of things I can do by myself during that time.
Hey OP, I was wondering if you found anything? If not, here's an incredible retreat for you I think you may love: 3 Day Meditation, Yoga & Living with Purpose Retreat in NY, USA - let me know your thoughts on this one or if you'd like any other recommendations š
Mohunk Mountain House is š, but youāre going to have to budget a little more for accommodations/services. $500 for 2-3 days isnāt realistic for the NYC metro area. $500 for one day, perhaps, if you get a really good deal.
Kripalu
Hi! Iāve been looking more into this and I was wondering if youāve been before? If you have, did you go to MA or upstate NY? How was your experience?
Absolutely, I've got some great suggestions for you! Since you're looking for wellness retreats near NYC on a budget, you might want to check out places like the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. They offer a variety of yoga and meditation classes, as well as affordable accommodations. Another option is the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York, which hosts workshops and retreats focusing on wellness, personal growth, and creativity.
If you're open to something a bit different, Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York, might be worth considering. While it's not specifically a wellness retreat, they offer a range of outdoor activities like hiking, yoga, and meditation, set against the backdrop of stunning natural scenery.
If you'd rather not commit to a structured retreat, you could plan a DIY wellness getaway. Book a cozy Airbnb in a scenic location like the Catskills or the Hudson Valley, and spend your days exploring nature, practicing yoga or meditation on your own, and treating yourself to spa treatments or art classes at local studios.
I hope these suggestions help you make the most of your time off! If you'd like more details or recommendations, feel free to check out my blog post where I go into more depth on each option. Enjoy your break!
came across this affordable / rejuvenating upcoming event! I haven't been before but will definitely be going one of the sessions. Tickets still avail but I feel like this type of thing sells out closer to? BWT love freebies and cheap events!

not worth it donāt waste your money
Hi all, was looking if anyone had experience with 1-3 day mindfulness meditation retreats in the NYC area, and if you'd recommend one!
Acem Meditation is some good stuff, they do regular events at the Scandinavia House and retreats somewhere out of the city.
Kripalu and Mohunk Mountain House are recommended by Affordable wellness resorts or retreats near NYC from 5 months ago.
I recently read an article about an enlightenment retreat outside of NYC and itās spurred my interest. Iām interested in checking out a weekend wellness retreat upstate. Something co-ed and social - Iām thinking of going alone and would like something where people chat at dinner etc. Iām in my mid 30s so something that attracts a mix of ages would be nice.
Thinking general wellness, meditation, a bit of yoga perhaps but not yoga focused.
Any suggestions?!
Ithaca has the Namgyal Institute, the North American seat of the Dalai Lama, that has daily meditations open to visitors and is great. I have also enjoyed going out to the Berkshires for Kripalu yoga center and staying at Canyon Ranch for wellness but it was pretty expensive
There's a billion shrines and retreats from the HV to Canjo to Ithaca. Look it up on Google Maps.
Evolutions festival first weekend of September in the sugar mountains
omega would probably have something for you
Omega Institute in Rhinebeck has a lot of programs you may like.
Some days, even the park down the block isnāt enough. I need somewhere quiet⦠no crowds, no planning stress. Iāve tried a lot but these three became my go-to escapes when the city feels too loud: Beacon, NY A direct train from Harlem 125th, and in under two hours you're in a calm, artsy town. Time moves slower there. Coffee hits different when you drink it on a quiet street with mountains in the background. The Catskills If you can rent a car or catch a ride, go. Being in those woods makes you feel small in the best way. I hiked for just an hour and forgot Iād been running on empty all week. Montauk Itās a bit farther, but absolutely worth it. The beach, the waves, the sky at sunset⦠like NYC never existed. I came back feeling a little lighter, like something heavy was left behind. Each of these gave me a breath I didnāt know I needed.
If youāve got your own escape spots, please share
Fort Tryon park and inwood Hill
Untermyer Gardens in Yonkers is heavenly.
Yeah, Wave Hillās a gem. That shuttle from Metro North makes it too easy feels like youāre stepping outta the Bronx into another world
Wave Hill. They even have a shuttle from the metro north station
Yeah, Wave Hillās a gem. That shuttle from Metro North makes it too easy feels like youāre stepping outta the Bronx into another world
Just go to Van Cortlandt on the 4 train and walk the Croton duct or South County trailways. You'll be out of the city in no time. You can walk to Peekskill from there too. Idk about Beacon since there's no shoulder on that road.
Walk up to the dam in Cortlandt as it's a shorter walk (26 miles). It takes you through small town cores like Ossining where you can get food.
For the SCT, (Food) I recommend the food store listed on Google Maps as Dollar Store Ossining, which is next to Karma Lounge. I also recommend Stop and Shop in Hastings. Keep in mind that food in Westchester is more expensive than NYC and Yonkers.
This is not a sleep away trip as it's around 8-10 hours there and back again.
Another nice walk is the Long Path off the Washington Heights bridge area and into NJ. It's 300 some odd miles and takes you through Harriman State Park. For access, take the BX11 or 36 bus for a straight shot, also walkable from the 4/1 trains.
Be thankful you live in the Bronx and not Brooklyn. Brooklyn/Queens commute to the Paumanok Path (Port Jeff to Montauk) and LI long trails is Long and difficult.
I don't enjoy taking NICE to Suffolk County Bus multiple times - half hour waits each time. Queens has a self contained short bike loop that goes nowhere.
Man, thatās a solid breakdown š Appreciate the tips on Ossining and Hastings Iāll keep that in mind about the prices too. The Long Path sounds epic, Harriman is on my list for sure. And yeah⦠Bronx over Brooklyn any day when it comes to getting out of the city
šÆšÆ one of the best things about the Bronx..
I feel you on that. Sometimes even 2 hours out still feels like the cityās shadow. Real relief only hits when youāre deep upstate, past all the downstate vibes
Just get on the LIRR/Metro North and pick a random stop.
Yeah, youāre right Van Cortlandt Park is actually the last stop on the 1 train. The 4 ends at Woodlawn, different line.
have you ever been to wave hill? thereās an 8 acre woodland. itās super quiet and peaceful
So I've been asked to organize a retreat/recreational day for my team at work. It would probably be some time next month. For around 20-30 people. Any ideas for what would be fun to do together? (I'm thinking along the lines of some activity + eating at a restaurant)
Watson adventures is recommended by Scavenger/City Tour from 2 months ago. A tasting menu and Hamilton tickets among others are recommended by the very popular Bougie NYC Activities - What would you do if someone gave you a $350ish budget? from 9 days before that. Shuffleboard at Royal Palms + bbq and drinks at Pig Beach and Axe throwing among others are recommended by Fun work event in NYC? from 6 days before that. The Shed and cruises are recommended by Executive day trip from 2 months before that and links to similar questions.
Two or three escape rooms. Cooking class. Watson adventure (scavenger hunt).
Break Bar?
We did a cruise around Manhattan one year. It was awesome.
Weāre going to City Winery this year.
Weāve also done a Mets game
Iām not talking about your standard yoga class or massage. I mean the cool, offbeat, maybe even a little woo-woo experiences that made you go, āWait, this exists in NYC??ā
Could be breathwork in a sauna, sound bath in a dome, full-body lymphatic drainage at a hidden spot in Brooklyn, or something totally different. Bonus points if itās beautiful, grounding, or something youād bring a friend to for a treat-yourself day.
Spill the recs š§āāļøšāāļøšÆļøāØ
I had some amazing lymphatic drainage by Angela Guerra ages ago, I'm not sure if she's still doing a solo practice or what.
But the real wellness advice for the summer is getting out of the city, even if just upstate using metro north and a cheap motel. It took me 15 summers of being stubborn about staying on summer weekends to realize this lol.
I go to Blissful Headspace Spa in Greenpoint. I'd call it more of a head spa vs a hair spa because it's really about getting that scalp clean and massaged. They do cleanse your hair and put in a little product and blow dry it, but if you have curly hair just know you're going to come out with shiny silky pin straight hair. But it's incredible AND you get a body massage.
Iām a big fan of Anima Mundi, itās an amazing apothecary with a flagship location in Greenpoint. Their adaptogenic tinctures are magic, the Happiness drops are herbal antidepressants and the Cerebrum is focus in a bottle.
I havenāt made it to one of their events yet, but Iām about to book a ticket for something this month - maybe the Summer Solstice Cosmic Energy Soundbath. The calendar is full of intriguing options and the store is always worth a visit!
They have a location in SoHo on Crosby St! Right across from the housing works bookstore- my favorite block for a field trip
Any recs in Manhattan?
Iāve been to Lāespoir for the 70 min special spa + blowout ($300). It was pricey and luxurious, but my hair looked amazing for days afterwards. There are also shorter and somewhat more affordable options.
Itās just one person in a private spa with top notch equipment from Japan. Iāve had head spa treatments around the world and this is one of the best. Check out her Insta or Google reviews for videos and youāll see what I mean.
Vessel Floats in Greenpoint is pretty fabulous. The whole experience is so calming. You start with a little elixir and reflection, then have your space for the float, shower with ale Labo products, then finish with another cozy drink and reflection. I LOVE it there.
Seconding this place- I went once and have been meaning to go back for a while. So relaxing and definitely unique
I havenāt floated in NYC, but I have elsewhere and it is now a recurring gift for my mom!
It is truly so relaxing and peaceful. I hope you schedule one and have a great time!
Are these the amazing head massages I see on my Instagram? Thereās one in queens I always click on and I swear just watching it relaxes me.
Spa 88 is my go-to decompression station. Itās 3 floors of different saunas, steam room, cold plunge, good food, jacuzzi and pool upstairs. I go for 5 hours and come out a brand new human.
I like Blissful Headspace Spa in Greenpoint
For mild physical activity like a light hike or a picnic away from the buildings.
The Met Cloisters arenāt too far and theyāre in a gorgeous area with a nice view of the Hudson!
If you have a car, Nyack Beach State Park is close and beautiful.
Quick car ride to Cheesequake State Park in NJ

It's a little far from Manhattan but if you take the LIRR to Douglaston the walk is only about 15 minutes. Alley Pond Environmental Center in Douglaston/Bayside has a nice nature walk/preserve.
I recently saw a friend travelled to Rakxa in Thailand for a 5-day wellness retreat and raved about it ā it included all her meals catered with delicious Thai food, a few doctor's appointments, and a range of spa, exercise and treatment options (more info here: https://rakxawellness.com/).
Iād love to do something similar, as this year has been super intense, and Iād like to take some time over the holidays to recharge and focus on my health and wellbeing before starting a busy new role in January. Iād love to get any tips on something similar that you have experienced and would recommend.
Iām based in Europe, but open to retreats around the globe.
Thank you in advance!
Golden Door has a great Black Friday. $10,950 for 7 days instead of normal $11,950. Itās the perfect spot for a reset.
Esalen. Big Sur, CA. The most beautiful place in the world.

Anyone been to The Brando recently? I went the year it opened and it was everything & more. The recent TripAdvisor reviews mention itās not the same and has lost its shine. Apparently the all inclusive pricing no longer includes top shelf liquor & wines. Been to a Velaa in the Maldives, loved it but wanted to treat family to Brando for my big birthday. We are out of the New York area.
