Iconic Ships and Vehicles
For collectors, iconic ships and vehicles from the Star Wars universe are a popular choice. Sets like the Millennium Falcon, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, and Slave I are frequently recommended due to their recognizability and detailed designs [3:3],
[4:2]. The Razor Crest from "The Mandalorian" is also highlighted as a must-buy set
[5:1],
[5:2].
Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) Sets
The UCS sets are considered premium choices for collectors due to their size and detail. Popular UCS sets include the Millennium Falcon, Star Destroyer, and Death Star [5:7]. While these sets are highly regarded, some collectors feel they are not worth the money compared to other options
[5:9].
Location-Based Sets
Location-based sets offer a different kind of appeal, allowing collectors to recreate scenes from the movies. Sets like Hoth Base, Endor Base, and Bespin are mentioned as interesting options [2:5]. However, these sets can be expensive relative to their size, and there is a desire among collectors for more location-based sets
[2:2],
[2:3].
Anniversary and Special Edition Sets
Special edition sets, such as those released for anniversaries, are also sought after by collectors. The 20th Anniversary Slave I is praised for its design and display potential [4:3],
[4:5]. These sets often come with unique minifigures or features that add to their collectibility.
Personal Preferences and Budget Considerations
Ultimately, the best sets for a collector depend on personal preferences and budget. Some collectors prioritize display pieces, while others focus on playsets or specific themes [3:5],
[5:8]. It's important to choose sets that you personally enjoy and find value in, whether you're looking at current market offerings or second-hand options
[5:3].
I think your title should be best Lego sets to already have. This Slave 1 is retired and going for $789 on Amazon.
Maybe... that price is crazy, but i can beat that i found it for 1800 on Amazon nb thats an affiliate link
Lol, that is a crazy price.
Do you agree with my ActionFigureGeek Picks?
More locations would be cool but they’re usually really expensive relative to the size.
It’s why sets like the Obi-Wan v Vader and diorama sets seem like really bad value and why other location sets don’t include a floor.
A lot of the scenes I want probably can’t be done that well in sets. Like I’d love a Venator/Seperatist Hangar for displaying vehicles and figures in.
Some Theed sets would be really cool. I’ve seen one moc which was a UBS styled Naboo palace which would make an amazing set.
I personally feel like we need more location-based sets. Ships and speeders are fine and all, but we never got a proper Maz’ castle on Takodana, Theed Palace, Geonosian Droid Factory/Arena, or even a chunk of a Kamino platform.
There was a Hoth base that was really cool too
no it wasnt cool at all.
Well, I thought it was really cool
Watto's junkyard, a couple of Hoth bases, Bespin, Ach-To, Wampa Cave, Endor Base.
Quite a few, actually! There's definitely more but I just woke up!
Should be pretty easy to make a list. Here are all the star wars sets:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=S&catString=65
Keep scrolling until you see something that fits what you're looking for and jot down the set number and then keep on scrolling to find the next one.
I used to love collecting these as a kid but unfortunately all my pre-2012 sets are long long gone. I'm looking to start a new collection of sets and was wondering what sets would be good to start with.
The ones you like? Lego isn't like things like trading cards which come in obvious natural collection groups
I'm aware, but legos can be pretty pricey and appreciate in value. I'm asking people with experience about which sets are at a good price point right now.
I've started collecting recently (within the last month) and I LOVE the TIE Fighter. The AAT and Boba Fett's Starship/Slave I are also great. All three are relatively affordable and are cheaper on Amazon and Walmart than most retailers.
Again, that's impossible answer. Some people like display pieces, some like playsets, for some the helmets are great, for others they would spend next to nothing on those etc. Prices don't tend to vary outside of occasionally some being on sale, or you may wish to.time with double VIP points or a particular GWP. Buy the sets you like and you won't go far wrong
Unless you're looking at it from an investment side which is a complete different question.
Without a doubt go get the recent Slave I, X-wing, and TIE Fighter. They're great representations of the ships at a great value, especially on sale. There has been no better time to get them.
75288 AT-AT, 75322 AT-ST are both great.
75302 Imperial Shuttle is 20% off Walmart right now.
Amazon sale (20%): 75300 TIE, 75312 "Slave I", 75301 X-wing and 75257 Falcon. All are good sets.
Good bot
The ones you can acquire for good prices that you like
Any you don't currently have
What are some great sets to start off with this? I don’t want anything simple, but nothing to extreme (like that huge falcon) so, what are some good sets?
The new X-Wing is beautiful and a great medium size build. It is recognizable by nearly anyone. The figs are great with dual molded helmets with visors. I have two, one built and one in the box still. Highly recommend.
The new Slave 1 from the 20th Anniversary. Great build and a sexy display if you buy a stand and have it "flying"
I second this! Definitely a great build and the best of the 20th anniversary sets for sure.
The yoda is a good one. Or one of the 20th anniversary ones(slave 1 etc)
The Raider At-St from the Mandalorian is fun to build and looks great for display! The Rogue One Y-Wing was really good too and had nice minifigs if you can get your hands on one.
Thank you, will look out for them.
Get everything
I recently wanted to get into collecting lego Star Wars sets do you guys have any must buys I might buy the razor crest.
It’s obviously all up too you. If you wanted an idea of what’s currently on the market that’s a “can’t miss item” for collectors it’s probably Caders castle (retiring soon), the 40th anniversary AT AT which is just an awesome display piece and the beta one they’ve made, and the razor crest. That’s just sets in the shelves now.
All depends on you but here’s my opinion. I’ll try to mostly include stuff you can go get now but some might have to be second hand.
OT:
X wing (recommend looking for the 2018 one)
Tie fighter (also look for the 2018 one)
Millenium falcon
At at
Death Star final duel
Star destroyer
Prequels:
501st Clones
Republic gunship
Duel on mustafar
Anakin’s starfighter
At te
Sequels (not my cup of tea but just in case):
Kylo rens shuttle
Any resistance/ Poe x wing
New millennium falcon
Other:
Trouble on tatooine
Razorcrest
Really any of these are a good pick. If you have a big budget I’d also go looking for the ucs versions of some of these (especially the millennium falcon).
Pretty much all the UCS series items(falcon, star destroyer, death star, etc...)
I’m the opposite. I don’t think the ucs sets are worth the money at all
Any particular reasoning? I mostly enjoy the falcon's size and detail. I don't own the star destroyer(yet) and I doubt I will own the death star. That one unfortunately doesn't do it for me.
I agree. The best ucs set, the slave 1, has a 20th anniversary counterpart that is just as good (if not better bc of scale imo). I’ve had ucs sets (for cheap) over they years and always get rid of them.
I think you are asking for my "pride and joy" sets. The UCS sets are awesome and obvious. So my new thing is stuff to set up a scene as best as possible on a shelf. So Endor, Hoth, Mandalor, and fleet are my current goals.
So that would include sets like the ATAT, Razor Crest, X wing variations, and such that are available at retail now. But getting old sets is crazy expensive. Several UCS sets are still available as well, but my favorite all time sets include. Ewoke village, gunship, red 5, tantive IV, Y wing, and sith infiltrator in the non UCS category.
I also think every legit collection needs a chrome stormtrooper!
Not everyone has the money for a chrome stormtrooper though, so that’s not an entirely valid point. I agree that they’re cool but they are also much too expensive for your average collector. I don’t see how most people could justify spending so much on one minifigure.
Whatever you like it’s your collection
My Opinion right now: 75060 Slave I(100% Complete, Ebay 120€) 10174 AT-ST (no Sticker, top condition 100€)
I am a fan of the Ultimate Collectors Series! I love the AT-ST, on the other hand, the slave I is so crazy underprized, and you get so much for less :). Share your opinion on your favourite Sets, on others favourite Sets and on my favourite Sets :D
Top 10:
Sith Fury-class Interceptor (It's menacing and Sith-y with a really sleek design. I also love the rear 'wings')
Republic Gunship (One of my all-time favourite Star Wars designs and this is the set that gets it all right.)
Sith Infiltrator (Maul's speeder bike doesn't fit right but the exterior design of the ship is gorgeous.)
Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive (I've wanted it in Lego form since '02. Now I have it.)
The Azure Angel (I love Delta-7s and this one is beefy and bitchin'. I wanted this since I saw it in '03.)
General Grievous (I loved Bionicles and this figure is like the modern take on a Star Wars Bionicle. I love it!)
Mos Eisley Cantina (What's more iconic than the Cantina? If you can get two to make a full bar, do it. I should've)
UCS Slave I (It's big, it's beautiful, it's Fett's iconic ship. The build was fantastic and I love every part of it.)
Death Star Final Duel (Wow. This is the penultimate Throne Room set and I absolutely love the presentation.)
Shuttle Tydirium (It's the perfect size, fun to place figures in, and looks incredible. Wonderful design.)
I have more than just 10 favourites though and I can think of a few sets that I love just as much as these 10. Here's all of them.

9500 is one of my favorite sets. It just has a very cool look to it. Without the figs, it be be purchased pretty cheap.

75060 is another great choice, but I have a feeling that won't be as good of a value once it is retired. Once resellers aren't competing with $200 on the shelf at Lego with 5-10% cash back and free giveaways it will probably be in the 200s.

I also really like 75092 simply because it is both a scene-set and a ship. It includes everything you need to re-enact the entire movie scene. It isn't stupidly overpriced, and it comes with 9 minifigs.

My Favourite Set ist the UCS Slave 1, really really cheap, much of fun while building this Set. The Star in my Lego Collection and a fascinating Design.
Yes, thats true, that would be a great way to start a small collection ^^
Resistance Bomber, UCS Lambda, and UCS Slave 1 are my favorites by far
UCS Slave I and UCS Falcon, I love the 1:1 ships and how those two compliment one another. Also, the bounty hunter battle pack because you get some pretty great figures in it and 4-LOM for, well, probably the best bargain when it comes to sought after figures out there to date
I don't know if this will be welcome advice or not, but if you're asking this question (which to me seems to indicate there aren't clear sets or figures you already really want), I honestly would advise against collecting it. This goes for anything, but especially Lego Star Wars. It's a really really expensive hobby and can be quite addicting -- so unless money is no issue for you, I would wait until something comes along that you immediately love and know you want.
I just started collecting again myself. I checked out all the dets available, and was thinking of getting one of the helmets since they are 16+. Endes up listening to my inner child and get luke skywalkers x-wing. Don’t regret it one bit. It just really tickled my interest the most atm. Just get something you want and maybe something from whatever part of the sw-universe you are most into right now. Im probably gonna get razor crest next.
Razor Crest is a great one. It's the first set I got to get back into Lego and it was super fun to build.
I would advise checking out LEGO.com or go to your nearest LEGO store (if possible) to buy available sets. Alternatively, you can also check out Target, Walmart, Amazon, or even Bricklink for sets that aren't available on LEGO.com/LEGO stores at the moment.
I recently got back into Lego as an adult. What’s the best way to buy retired sets? I’m particularly interested in the 75060 Slave I, but I’m not sure where to start.
The best way to buy retired sets would have to be Bricklink.com, they have hundreds of retired sets you can buy. Some are even in new condition depending on the vendor.
In addition to ebay and brickink you can find a lot of retired sets by searching on mercari. I've had decent luck buying stuff on the app so far.
I also periodically look at Facebook marketplace listings. I found Republic Gunship 7676 for $200 and also managed to get the venator for $100 from the same seller.
eBay or bricklink to buy retired sets. To get ones that have value grab the ones that have valuable mini figs. Those will retain and gain value really well. Buy opened sets for the build. Buy the sealed boxes for the investment. I don’t mean to have to explain the obvious but as soon as I bring economics into this some folks go blank.
best advice I have: for buying retired sets online, always buy used WITH instructions. If they kept the instructions, that means they probably took care of the set as well (so it will be in good condition). Better yet, when people still have the box -- it's essentially assured that the pieces and figures will be very well preserved.
Ebay I think
Go on lego.com and see what you like? Not really sure why anyone should tell you what to collect. It's pretty personal.
So I recently got back into Lego in the last year at 37 years old. I’ve been a Star Wars fan since the OT special edition theatrical releases in the mid 90’s and more recently have really enjoyed The Mandalorian. When I decided to start collecting again I focused on Mandalorian and Mandalorian adjacent sets. I’m also a fan of American muscle cars so I’ve collected all the Speed Champions sets based around American cars. As for recommendations I would say do what I did and start with whatever era of Star Wars interests you the most. That will allow you to narrow down to a handful of sets to start with then to expand as your budget/interests allows for.
I started collecting lego Star wars a month ago, what do you think about my collection?
Any recommendations of display or sets to buy?
I’m not sure if this is the right place for this but my boyfriend is a major StarWars fan and he has a massive Lego StarWars collection. A few months ago he mentioned a Lego set he wanted as we walked by it at a Barnes and Noble and I saw that it had tan color. Now I’m trying to buy him the set as an anniversary gift but there are 2 that fit the description I remember of the set and I can’t remember which one he wanted. I attached photos of both sets (I know they’re so different but I’m still trying to learn StarWars). If anyone could help me decide which one is a better set to gift him that would be great!
Buy him both. Give him one, one year, then the other for the next major holiday.
That’s a good idea with Christmas coming up pretty soon!
Not to poop in the party. That podrace will always be rebuildable even if you never buy it. You can just get the parts.
Throne room has exclusive figures that may one day get slightly more expensive.
Personal opinion - never buy sets that don't have figures unless they are on a 50% sale as you can always get them cheap or build em from parts.
I would say it was almost definitely the Podrace diorama. Boba Fett’s throne room was retired last year or the year before that. It would be unlikely that it was on shelves still.
However, it being Barnes and Noble…the one by me sometimes has older sets still on shelves. I assume because a book store is unassuming in that it would sell Legos. So you could have seen the throne room
My B&N actually still has several.
Mine too, at full price. If they ever go on sale I might get one.
Just saw the throne room at my B&N a couple days ago, on 25% off clearance even. I’d fully expect it’s that one, unless he has a ton of other mini-fig-less displays.
He has a combo of both but maybe I’ll see if my Barnes and noble has them on sale and maybe grab both, thanks!
Another set that might fit the description is the desert skiff
But between the 2 1# is better
Oh no maybe it is the desert skiff but I don’t think Barnes and noble had that one
That one is so cool
I hope I'm not wading into someone else's business too badly here, but as a Lego Star wars fan I'd be super thrilled to get #1 (the throne room) as a gift. Not that the pod race diorama is bad in any way either. But if it helps, between the two, I'd vote throne room 100%.
Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my LEGO collection with you all. I’m a 20M and have been a huge Star Wars fan my whole life (especially the prequels) but I never realized how cool LEGOs were until Christmas 2023, when my girlfriend gave me Obi-Wan’s Starfighter as a gift. (We did my annual Star Wars rewatch together, going through the nine main movies. This year, I’m planning to show her Rogue One and perhaps Solo as well.)
Since I really loved that LEGO set, she started buying me Star Wars LEGOs for almost every special occasion—Valentine’s Day, my birthday, our anniversary, the end of military conscription, the start of university, Christmas and you name it! I think I’m a little addicted to LEGO now hahaha. It just makes me so happy.
As far as I can remember, I only had one Star Wars LEGO set as a kid: the Freeco Speeder. Unfortunately, I only have about a quarter of the pieces left and half of Anakin’s minifigure.
What really surprised me recently was getting Jango Fett’s buildable figure from 2015 and the Bad Batch Attack Shuttle, which has been retired for (two?) years. I love the Bad Batch show, so that was incredible! Even my girlfriend’s dad gave me LEGO for Christmas, which was so sweet.
Every set I have here has been given to me by my girlfriend, with the exception of the TIE Interceptor and Fang Fighter set and the Jango Fett buildable figure, which were gifts from her dad. I haven’t bought a single one myself, which makes them even more special to me. I have the best girlfriend!
I’d also love to get some tips on displaying these awesome sets. Any ideas?
What a beautiful collection bro
Thanks!
That’s a nice collection! How much were those shelves? They look great and I could use ones like that for my display
Thanks! Got them from Jysk for about 100€. The model name is TRAPPEDAL.
best Star Wars LEGO sets for collectors
Key Considerations for Collecting Star Wars LEGO Sets:
Rarity and Exclusivity: Limited edition sets or those that are retired often become more valuable over time. Look for sets that were released for special anniversaries or events.
Iconic Ships and Characters: Sets featuring iconic ships (like the Millennium Falcon, X-Wing, or TIE Fighter) or beloved characters (like Darth Vader, Yoda, or R2-D2) tend to be more desirable.
Display Value: Consider sets that are visually appealing and can be displayed easily, such as dioramas or large models like the Death Star or the UCS (Ultimate Collector Series) sets.
Build Complexity: Many collectors enjoy sets that offer a challenging build experience. Sets with a high number of pieces and intricate designs are often more satisfying.
Community and Reviews: Check online communities, forums, and reviews to see what other collectors recommend and what sets are currently trending.
Top Recommendations:
Millennium Falcon (UCS 75192): This is one of the largest and most detailed LEGO sets ever made, with over 7,500 pieces. It's a must-have for serious collectors.
Death Star (UCS 75159): A highly detailed set that includes iconic scenes and characters from the Star Wars saga, making it a centerpiece for any collection.
Imperial Star Destroyer (UCS 75252): Another massive set with impressive detail and a significant piece count, perfect for display.
Slave I (UCS 75060): A beautifully designed set that features Boba Fett's iconic ship, appealing to both collectors and fans of the character.
TIE Fighter (UCS 75095): This set offers a classic design and is a great addition to any Star Wars collection.
Takeaway: Focus on sets that combine rarity, iconic status, and display potential. Investing in UCS sets or limited editions can yield great value over time, making them worthwhile for collectors.
