TL;DR The best time to buy Coachella tickets is during presale or general sale, but waiting for the lineup announcement can help you decide based on artist preferences. Resale tickets might be cheaper closer to the event if the lineup is unpopular.
Presale and General Sale
Buying tickets during presale is often recommended as it minimizes risk and avoids the scramble during general sales [3:2]. Presale typically occurs in early June, while general sale happens in January
[5:4]. Purchasing early ensures access to lower-tier pricing
[4:5].
Lineup Impact
The lineup significantly affects ticket prices and availability. A strong lineup can cause resale prices to skyrocket, while a less popular lineup may lead to cheaper resale options [1:3]
[2:1]. Waiting for the lineup announcement, which usually happens around January, can help you make an informed decision
[1:6]
[4:4].
Resale Market Dynamics
If you miss the initial sales, the resale market offers another opportunity. Prices can fluctuate based on lineup popularity and proximity to the festival date [1:7]
[2:2]. Resale tickets are often cheapest a few weeks before the festival, as sellers try to offload them due to unexpected conflicts
[1:6].
Considerations Beyond Ticket Purchase
While securing tickets is crucial, other factors like lodging and flights should also be considered. These can become more challenging as the festival approaches, especially in tourist-heavy areas [4:1]
[4:2]. Planning these logistics early can ensure a smoother experience.
Additional Tips
For those concerned about lineup specifics, it's advisable to wait until the lineup is announced before purchasing tickets [3:3]. However, if you're open to discovering new music and enjoying the festival atmosphere, buying early can be beneficial
[3:1]
[3:5].
First time going to Coachella, do tickets typically sell out or do prices typically come down later?
It’s always a gamble. Lineup plays a huge factor, which is unknown at this point. I would bet that this year will be a buyer’s market because 1. COVID, 2. Increased ticket cost, and 3. The economy.
Yea hard to say... on the one hand, world economy isn't looking good. Recession and markets down = less dry powder in people's pockets.
Festival market got a bit saturated this year also. A lot of fests did not sell that well. A lot of options to be had.
But on the other hand, I think the 2022 lineup was relatively cheaper than most others due to covid. They didn't want to take a bigger risk financially, and depended on post (dire) covid exuberance to sell tickets. Also focusing on a more Gen Z demographic lineup, as they are the most likely to want to get back out there and party, despite covid.
With that, I think the 2023 lineup will be actually pretty good, and well received by critical Gen Xers, and the poppy Gen Zers, and everyone in between age/taste wise. I have noticed a theme along the years where the lineups tend to fluctuate spending wise, should be swinging back now. It's a reinvestment strategy to keep Coachella relevent.
Make no mistake though, who Coachella is funded by and where their alignment is at. They want to make as much money as possible, while spending as little as possible, but while still maintaining their cultural influence.

2022 lineup and sales were mediocre because the three original headliners dropped out, Ye dropping out especially caused prices to plummet.
Also, Aeg is the company that owns several companies like Goldenvoice which is the company who owns Coachella, If you follow up the chain at any business you'll eventually get wealthy republicans
I think lineup comes out around January. Depending on how good the lineup is, resell tickets are either going to jump in price or there’ll be a lot of sellers.
My guess is the lineup is gonna be pretty good bc a majority felt last year’s lineup was lacking. Just my guess.
People pay $600+ for Harry Styles pit tickets alone so being able to buy resale for $400 for 3 days with him plus everyone else was a steal. Not a weak lineup at all imo
I have my doubts on lineup. A huge part of the problem was less touring artists to choose from, which is still prevalent (and there are rumors artists are cancelling over working conditions).
Lineup plays a huge factor and Frank Ocean is supposedly headlining this coming year so who knows 🤷♀️ From what I’ve seen, the best choice is to get your tickets during pre sale or general sale. And past that, tickets will typically be cheapest from resellers is last min, the couple weeks before the festival from ppl who bought their wristbands way back and then had an unexpected conflict come up
Oh and like someone else said, last year was unique that a lot of people were disappointed with the lineup so wristbands were super cheap on the resell market. And with ppl not feeling comfortable going to a festival during COVID. But then after W1, it seemed like everyone had a lot of FOMO and realized the lineup wasn’t as whack as they thought since just about every person brought out surprise guests. I noticed the market went up like crazy for people trying to find last min W2 wristbands after seeing W1
Tickets usually sell out during general release. I've been lucky to snag cheaper tickets down the line but you have to search through sell pages and also trust that the seller won't scam you haha
in 2019 and 2020 (before it got cancelled) I think I remember Coachella sold out and resale tickets were selling above retail (asking ~$500-600 when the price was originally $400-450). This year 2022 some of my friends got tickets for $200-300 which is a huge discount but it was not sold out and a lot of people were not excited for the lineup. I remember tons of people looking to sell and almost no buyers
tickets are expensive as hell this year so it'll probably all depend on the lineup
Ty for the response. Yeah $500 is crazy, but even crazy to find out it used to be half that!
Right now tickets are going for around $680. Do you think prices will increase over time? Will the go up after lineup drops?
Worst time to buy tix: Immediately after presale or general sale is sold out. FOMO on tickets will be at an all time high, people will panic as their friends get passes and people will pay/charge a premium.
Waiting for the dust to settle after ticket sales is the best time to find tickets. Excitement has died and things come up for people and they just want their money back or dont want to be stuck with them later. This gets tricky as the festival gets closer, people who didnt have tickets will start looking and the demand will begin to increase.
The headliners play a huge role in how high ticket prices can get (see Outkast 2014 where WK1 passes were hovering around $1k/pass)
Opposite question- what’s the best time to SELL tickets? Right after the line up get dropped? Unfortunately had something come up and I’m trying to make a bit on top to help soothe the pain
Depends who’s on the lineup. Lineups like 2019 and 2013 with less-rare headliners ended up at or even below face value for Weekend 2, whereas the Beyonce year, they were expensive until the very end. With it being the first Coachella post-pandemic, I anticipate they likely won’t drop unless they somehow dropa dumpster fire of a lineup.
I remember I bought 2 GA passes for weekend 2 in 2013 between weekends for $300ea, $550 for the pair. Suffice it to say, that was the cheapest I’ve ever got Coachella tix!
The great irony is that it’s probably my favourite lineup in Coachella history. Sure, three out of the four headliners would have normally been second-liners, but that undercard was fucking insane for an alternative rock fan.
With taxes and fees, that is only about $80-100ish more than face value so that isn’t awful. Tickets were more expensive with the tier system this year :(
About 10 of my friends bought tickets and we all got the cheapest tier. Wondering if anyone who bought presale had to pay for the higher tier
Presale with AMEX?
It's kind of impossible to say ... that said, I don't know about you, but I'm DYING to be at a music festival and I would pay way more than I would have pre-pandemic. It really comes down to good old "Supply and Demand".
Hi All! My wife and I are really debating on going to Coachella next year and buying the tickets when they go on presale tomorrow. We are just a little hesitant because we don’t know the lineup yet and might want to back out if it’s not what we’re looking for. This is such a big investment that I want to ensure we are 100% set on going. Have people found success reselling their passes (including car camping pass)? If so, how did you go about doing this? The passes being non-refundable kinda sucks but I get it. I wouldn’t even be looking to make a profit if I did decide to resell. Just get my money back. This is only if we get the tickets and are really disappointed with the lineup! We really want to cross this off our bucket list, so really hope the lineup is fire 😭
UPDATE WE GOT THE TICKETS, LFG!!!
I buy on presale, always, because that way I minimize risk and don't have to deal with the onsale scrum in January. I know I will have a great time regardless of lineup, and I trust the lineup will allow me to fill out my days with great music.
Usually you can sell weekend 1 for face and weekend 2 at a loss. The year Bey headlined was an exception --- tickets went for well above face both weekends --- but there are only 2-3 artists in the world likely to cause that.
I totally agree with you but I'm curious on who you think the 2-3 artists that would make re-sale way above face
Taylor. Rihanna. Bieber. Adele.
If you go expecting very specific artists to be there you will 100% be disappointed. If that’s what will make you want to sell your tickets just wait until the lineup is announced and avoid the headache. Maybe get flights/lodging figured out if you can find something that is refundable.
Been going since 2010 and this was the first year I wasn’t that excited about the lineup when it first dropped as I didn’t know that many artists. That changed as soon as I started exploring the lineup and my top two performances this year (Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso and Gustavo Dudamel) were artists that I hadn’t even heard about before Coachella.
I've gone to Coachella 16 times. The lineup is always phenomenal. If not about the headliners it's about exploring and learning new music. Think of going to a restaurant experiencing different foods for the first time in an amazing atmosphere with really cool people. That's what it's all about. Book it get your lodging go all in and you will not regret it!
Agree with this, if you love music you’re not going to be really disappointed in the lineup.
This is honestly what I’m looking to hear. I’m stoked to make this happen but hearing so many people saying Coachella was so overrated this year is scaring me lol
100% agreed
We go to local fests and concerts for artists we specifically want to see. We go to Coachella to discover all new awesome artists and sets that we never would’ve went out of our way to see or possibly found out about otherwise
Yes you can sell your tickets if you aren’t interested, you may take a hit if the lineup isn’t popular. But just go, there’s always quality
Tickets sell for a loss, preferred camping sell for 100% profit
Hi there!
I was wondering what the gap is between purchasing tickets if I wait for the lineup to drop, how much time will there be between the lineup dropping and me being able to purchase tickets before coachella starts
The issue isn’t gonna be tickets. It will be flight and lodging.
From what I’ve gathered… people local to SoCal don’t buy their Coachella ticket early for that reason.
You should be fine waiting for the lineup to drop
Agreed. And let's be real, Coachella hasn't sold out in a few years so tickets will be available (but like you said, there are only so many places to stay in what's already a touristy area and time of year - I say as a local)
Wdym weekend 1 always sells out?

The lineup drops by the end of the year and then people decide wich weekend. I personally choose to buy it when presale started for W1 since with my work schedule it works the best and then figure out the rest later on. I am going alone so i don't know yet if i want to integratea group in car camping or a hotel yet. i am searching the best option and then my flight is between LAX or PSP.
PSP is way more expensive than LAX from our experience last year but mannnn flying into PSP was so nice especially because we stayed so close to that airport!
I heard the same thing i think will just end up Canada to LAX and take the shuttle. I heard it was pretty convenient if you have a hotel or Airbnb.
Your question doesn’t really make sense. Like do you mean the lineup drops and then when do you purchase? Cause the lineup will drop (let’s say in a Tuesday) and then they will go on sale later that week on Friday.
Please see my update sorry for phrasing it incorrectly!
Thanks!
Ah! Tickets will be available until they sell out. There are limits like you’ll have to purchase before a certain date if you want them shipped vs picking them up at will call. The goal with buying tickets early is getting lower tier pricing.
time period between the 2 to purchase the tickets
depends how fast they sell.
Hey everyone When do you think it’s the best time to buy tickets ? You think is going to be out of stock soon?
I’m planning to come all the way from Israel and I really can’t find any information online about when should you but the tickets
Tickets were completly sold out for the 2020 festival, a lot of people are most likely rolling over their tickets from then. I don’t think there’s going to be a sale for 2022 if all the tickets are already bought/accounted for. Most likely you’ll have to buy resale at this point.
It’s been reported that 40% of people have refunded their tickets. I believe they have had Lyte this entire time, but they always do between presale and general sale. I’d be very surprised if they didn’t have another sale, assuming the next Coachella will be full capacity.
I agree there will prob be another sale next January, but with the pent up demand and assuming at least 50% hold on to their 2020 tickets, I would expect its gonna be rough going to get them in a general sale.
Dang 40%?! That’s way more than I thought! If that’s the case then forget what I said. I’ve known about lyte but it’s usually a slim chance people get some.
I bought my April 2022 tickets in June of 2019. Wierd, but apparently true.
Am I risking a sell out if I don't buy my 2024 tickets today?
They only sold wk2 passes the last time they made passes available for purchase. Nobody knows how many of the passes previously sold were returned and now available. Coachella will sell out, and for all we know wk1 is still sold out.
To preface I wanna say that this has been a weird couple of years and it’s hard to say whether or not it’ll be a conventional ticket sale as well.
Usually tickets for the following year go on presale around early June. Then the general sale is in January.
2019
??
It was bought in during the presale of June 2019 for 2020 which automatically transfer to whenever the festival will finally be held.
They haven’t gone on sale yet. Anyone who has tickets right now has rolled them over from 2020. Once they make an announcement about when the next festival will happen they’ll likely include information on how to get tickets, or will shortly after.
A few days ago, there was the HDD article saying how the lineup was coming soon. But also, Coachella has now closed presale for tickets. Usually, this happens pretty close to one to line up, actually releases, so we could be seeing a September or October lineup drop, which is even earlier than last year.
Let Lineup Mania commence...
Lineup coming once payment plans are almost complete
My payment plan ends in Oct. Lets say line up after thanksgiving again.
For me is December but finishing it on in 2 weeks- I am doing a bit more overtime lately so my paycheck are bigger. That allowed me to pay it off quicker.
That works
Shit I needed to get mine. Hopefully they don’t book BTS or it’s gonna be a bloodbath
Taylor Swift, BTS, Metallica
Edit: /s obviously, but imagine!
RTTDFTG: Michael Jackson
Hell yeah brother.
Rock with you in the desert would heal me
I see what you did there
NOOO I WAS GONNA START MY PRESALE TODAY
I’ll be buying secondhand for week 2- wondering if best time for a deal is a week before week 1 or hella last minute (last few days before week 2)? Lmk your experience
I usually buy them 1-2 days before the festival and have gotten them pretty cheap! But like someone else said, it’s def a little risky
Have done stubhub before for w2, got it the week of w1 for like $250 before fees.
Did it come in in time or did you have to do will call
I had to do will call, I remember it taking like 30 minutes to get through that line. It wasn’t too bad.
I bought once for 300 a few days before weekend one and it was pretty sick. The girl even came to my.job to drop them off.
A few days before weekend 1
the later you buy the cheaper the tickets get, it just depends on your risk tolerance. (except for years like Beychella anyways)
I stacked a lot of trips together and basically didn't have the funds for another trip in April but moving it back actually opens up the door for what seems like a 1 time only and very unique coachella experience. I'm sure a lot of people will be reselling for possibly lower than face value so I'm wondering if I should buy asap or wait it out a bit. Thoughts?
I don't see why anyone would let their tickets go for under face value if Coachella is going to openly offer refunds. The situation is unprecedented and there's no telling for sure, but I wouldn't wait for that refund email to come out to scout for cheap tickets.
True I was just thinking about the people that already bought tickets from a 3rd party and won't be able to make out in the fall and might be looking to get rid of them quick.
The problem with 3rd party tickets is we don’t know yet if the same wristbands will be used or if new ones will be required and you run the risk of the original purchaser selling to you then taking a refund for themselves. Making yours unusable. That’s less of an issue through proper resale sites I’m sure but person to person sales seem way to risky at this point. I’d wait until we know more about how they are handling everything. Unless your a risk taker.
Wait for the official statements regarding ticket statuses and if wristbands will be honored or reissued.
if you're planning to buy in the secondary market, best to wait until september at least.
if you want peace of mind, get on the Lyte waitlist to get a ticket officially instead of the secondary market. The waitlist would be the best bet as refunded tickets will probably go there. I doubt they'll do another On Sale since i think Coachella wants to keep that SOLD OUT image intact.
Good prediction on the Lyte. My prediction is that they will reopen sales in May/June to offer a Oct 2020/April 2021 combo package on a payment plan.
Oh the combo package is actually a really smart idea, especially if they have a lot of people asking for refunds.
I think if you're open to going either weekend then just wait it out as long as possible. It's been a long time since both April weekends have stayed over face and I think October is going to draw lower demand as a whole
That's what I'm doing too. Every year tickets drop below face value.
I'm thinking of getting a refund, and then trying to get second-hand VIP tix for cheap last minute
Make sure its refundable. A pandemic flu has a tendency to make a fall encore.
I would personally wait all together. What’s stopping someone form selling you a ticket then requesting a refund. I’m pretty sure Coachella will have another sale wait till that happens or at least till we have more information on what’s going to happen
Hi! Next weekend will be my first time going to Coachella and my first time camping at a music festival. I know weekend 1 was chaos and wanted to see if anyone has insight on the best time to arrive. I saw some people got through to the campgrounds quick, others up to 13 hours so I’m a little lost. I’m driving in from Vegas and have to grab my tickets from will call still (opens at 9 am)
I drove down from the Bay Area, we left around 6am got to Indio around 3pm and we were setting camp by 5pm. I suggest you arrive later in the day because security won’t be searching your car so extensively. Also we went down Jefferson and 52nd that helped us cut off so much waiting time.
I suggest arriving later so you’re not idling your car and waiting in the heat for hours. For all those that said they got in quickly, I literally have zero fucking idea how you did that. Even after being checked by security, there was still standstill traffic for an hour to get to my site.
I left from San Diego at 8PM, arrived in Coachella at 12AM. Got through security and to my campsite at 4:30am.
Do not go down 52nd that’s absolutely zero percent correct. Jefferson -> 54 -> Madison. Do not follow any online maps.
We came in today around 230 and took about 10 mins. No line at all! Had preferred parking also.
Im from AZ and we left 11:30am local time, made it to Indio about 4ish, killed time at Costco for last minute things and made it to our campsite at 6:00. Our total wait time from the neighboring area to our site was 1.5 hours, not bad really.
Did you guys go see Chris Lake? What time did he come on
We did! We heard him from our site at exactly 8:30 and we made it once we settled in from camp
What lot did you guys get in?
We unfortunately got stationed in lot 10 for car camping :/ at least we had a close by portapottie
If security hasn’t changed, I’d say Thursday afternoon to evening works best. The morning is going to be a total mess.
I was planning on late Wednesday but wanna wait to see if Coachella says anything
Yeah it’s pretty much been radio silence from them about the situation. Odd. It does say in the FAQ on the website camping opens Thursday at 9 am but I saw people arrive at 2 am?
Take Jefferson street to avenue 54, stuck to the left side and then take Madison street. Should get you inside the security check in less than an hour
2026: September 15, 2025

Doing some quick math, I figure by 2027 or so, we will be given the next year's lineup as we leave the festival...
Recession Indicator
Next year's lineup will drop with this year's set times.
Why did they released so early this time
And even booking starting from tommorrow
Economy is bad. They’re giving people ample amount of time to prepare
They are betting people will be too poor in december to buy tickets
They’re probably also expecting a massive drop in international attendees.
Or they simply just want to try things differently and see if there's a better outcome? It didnt matter when they were selling out always, but now the market is weaker and they're not always selling out; so they just try different things and see how it works. Doesn't mean the sky is falling like everyone here suggests.
Need cash now
They know that people only have so much money available for festival experiences and they want to get as much of that money as possibl.
Think of it this way - they've always announced and sold tickets LAST, after every other Festival. This means people have already bought tickets to other events, and many of those people are out of discretionary funds by the time Coachella announces and starts selling tickets.
That was fine when Coachella always sold out. But it's been foolish ever since they had trouble moving tickets.
The younger generation isn’t really into festivals as much either. To them they’re paying hundreds of dollars to sleep in a field and be uncomfortable most of the days which isn’t wrong
I’d argue the opposite but just based on personal observation, I’m in my early/mid 20s and a ton of my extended circle (including random people from school) are super into festivals and concerts, in a way where it seems to have replaced clubbing. Granted the economy is shit right now
