Additional Recommendations
If you're looking for more variety, consider exploring Asian cuisine, as many restaurants offer vegan-friendly dishes at a lower cost. Thai Veggie Hut in Hobart is noted for its bain marie style takeaway [2:2], and HeartFood provides mostly vegan options
[2:4].
Looking for cheap vegan restaurants/take outs around town. Not fussy what it is just vegan and cheap :)
What the Pitta is actually really good. I wouldn't say it's cheap exactly, but it's not horrifically expensive either. About £8.50 for a vegan kebab.
Genuinely an incredible kebab, and their fries as well! I’d say some of the best fries in Brighton
Wow you think that's cheap for a kebab
It's also loads of food so definitely good value
Iydea is always delicious. Their food is always freshly made and their soup is £1.50
Sunbirds on London Road has vegan mezze for £5.50. It’s soo good
Its great but its at least £7 these days. Cant remember if £7 for vegan and £8 for meat mezze or a little more. Still well worth it though and its not their fault their costs are higher
was going to say the same. Top on Tripadvicer for years, which pretty amazing as they so cheap.
I miss sunbirds, lovely lil place
Pompoko (remember to take cash)
Remember to ask, their tofu dishes contain oyster/fish sauce
I believe beelzebab at The Hope and Ruin currently has a deal on their specials! They do hotdogs, kebabs and loaded fries! I would also really recommend their pengest poppers!!
Not a restaurant, but food wise. Thai veggie hut in the CBD is the best bain Marie style takeaway I've had since being vego.
We get it every time we make the trip down from Launceston.
Okayy!!
HeartFood is fully vegetarian and mostly vegan I believe! So yum
What's their speciality?
Asian tea house!
It’s grim out here atm. Depends if you’re after lunch or dinner but I can recommend Aloft, Maria, Little Poet, Winston, Mayfair, Royal Thai- but depending on where you’re coming from there aren’t a lot of “destination” venues for vegans here these days
Okay
What are the best vegan restaurants in Manchester? I am looking for somewhere to take my vegan friend out in Manchester when they visit and am looking for some suggestions. I am not vegan myself but do eat meat free often at home, we just don’t go out very much.
Pasta factory has some DELICIOUS vegan options, been there a fair few times personally. Vegan shack in Piccadilly gardens for a greasy tasty borgor treat. be warned... they're addictively good!
Purezza and Lotus plant based kitchen are good.
Bundobust, mowgli, panchos in the arndale do a first class vegan burrito
What's preventing you from being vegan?
I think cutting out cheese and eggs would be the hardest part for me. I could probably go vegetarian but my reasons for eating less meat are more environmental than anything else. If I’m honest I like eating meat when it is the centre of a meal, but don’t miss it in things like a stir try or a bolognaise with lentils instead of mince, and probably eat more quorn nuggets than I should.
Do you know what animals have to go through for you to eat cheese and eggs?
Let’s start with dairy. Cows are forcibly impregnated—yes, against their will—so they can produce milk. This cycle of exploitation begins when they are still young. Once they give birth, their calves are taken away from them, often within hours. The separation is traumatic for both mother and calf. Male calves, deemed useless to the dairy industry, are either slaughtered for veal or left to die. Female calves are raised to endure the same fate as their mothers. This process repeats until the cow’s milk production declines, at which point she is sent to slaughter.
Eggs are no less cruel. In the egg industry, chicks are sorted by sex shortly after hatching. Male chicks, unable to lay eggs and considered unprofitable, are macerated—ground up alive—or suffocated in plastic bags. Female chicks are raised in cramped conditions, often with their beaks painfully trimmed to prevent them from pecking each other out of stress. Their lives are a constant cycle of laying eggs until their bodies give out, after which they are killed.
These animals are not just exploited—they are enslaved, treated as commodities rather than sentient beings. They literally go through hell, and all of this happens simply to produce cheese and eggs. Veganism is a moral baseline. It’s about refusing to participate in animal exploitation exploitation and death.
Please don't be indifferent. #BeVegan
Underneath the Buddhist temple is vegan, It's an alcohol free bar then wholesome junkies are there for the summer Desert island dumplings til June The allotment Grub has vegan options regularly available with traders who go there too
Thanks for the recommendations. I looked up a couple. The dumplings place looks interesting. 👍🏼
Looking to eat for my bday. Doesn’t have to be an exclusively vegan restaurants but should have good vegan options!
Edit: How about restaurants that have good vegan options instead of being fully vegan? Also, I’m looking for restaurants that have outdoor dining open!
i love saigon lotus, greens vegetarian, kings cafe (all in kensington), one love (bloor and bathurst), tenon sushi (bloor and spadina... might be the priciest of those).
Mama's tofu - authentic vietnamese vegan dishes on Lawrence ave/Black creek Have to try all their noodle soups! My favorite are number 1 and 3.
Govinda's is literally the best deal in town imo if you love Indian.
Simon's Wok if you're into Buddhist vegan (I recommend the eggplant blackbean casserole and the olive leaf fried rice)
I’m Indian so I eat indian food everyday! Looking for something dif
Buddha on Dundas st.
Hogtown Vegan is pretty affordable!
I want to treat myself to a nice weekday vegan/vegetarian friendly brunch tomorrow. I’d love some great coffee and a good pancake or some good toast. If the place has a bakery, especially French, that’s a bonus. Im not looking for a crowded fancy spot but want a lowkey casual vibe where I can read my book for an hour or two. Can you suggest your favorite spots?
Thanks in advance!
Kindred is the answer. Happy solo date! I love those and highly encourage them in this town💙
Definitely the answer on the weekends, but they don’t do weekday breakfast or lunch. Wish they did!
Good to know. Also it's not very quiet, not sure OP can read through death metal. I cannot.
Hazel and Jade in Hillcrest is a vegan cafe with croissants. You can pick some up to go and head to the Balboa park
Maybe Bread and Cie? They are primarily a bakery so they definitely have that part covered. It's good too. The food menu is relatively small but If you want avocado toast/sandwiches/pastries, coffee, and that sort of thing, they have it.
Trilogy sanctuary in La Jolla!
I LOVE their Pleasure smoothie. 🤤
This has been on my list for a while now. I heard they gave some events sometimes, hoping to catch one sometime !
+1
Donna Jean! My favorite brunch in the city and it happens to be vegan.
Looking to take my vegan cousin and her hubby for brunch! They are vegan, doesn’t need to be a fully vegan restaurant but somewhere that the vegan breakfast isn’t an afterthought!
What’s your favourite vegan brunch?
Acorn
Acorn has amazing vegan brunch options. Their play on fried chicken and waffles is so good!
To Live For is more casual (counter service) but excellent food and pastries!
I haven't tried it but check out Mila.
Acorn is the go to - always amazing.
For more casual, go to The Burrow or Meet.
Chickpea, hands down. Their latkes benedict is amazing, and a lot of food for the price.
I’ve found a few spots that more or less have budget friendly vegan food but they’re kind of far, so I’m curious about any options I may have missed? Doesn’t matter if it’s a completely vegan place or just vegan friendly.
Far from where? Where are you where you want vegan food?
North Hollywood!
Veggie grill recently introduced weekday lunch combos, for around $10 you get a wrap/tacos plus fries/salad and drink.
I love Vegan Glory Thai food, and I think it’s decently priced considering you get a few meals out of those entrees.
Late to this, but their 11.95 all day special comes with an entree (I always get tofu pad thai), salad, miso soup, egg roll, and brown rice. It’s delicious and an amazing deal. Also — get the beef jerky strips if you haven’t. I cannot recommend them enough.
Lucy Ethiopian restaurant is deliciously and affordable
Bé Ù on Hoover has some good vegan options including an awesome bánh mì for like $7.
This will be pinned so that people can find suitable places to dine throughout NZ! <3
For Auckland:
East (Asian-fusion)
Belly Worship (purely for the vegan lychee pork)
Forest (spectacular culinary experience)
Khu Khu (delicious Thai food. 100% vegan)
Special shout out to Lulu’s in Ponsonby for the best vegan soft serve ever
Wise Boys!
Did they change their patty recipe in the last year or so? I feel like their patties used to be meatier. Might just be imagining things
I’m not sure. I normally get the seitan chicken burgers, which I think are the same.
Not fully vegan but I love The Botanist in Wellington
Hey guys! Just wondering what’s your favorite/best vegan/vegetarian establishments in the area? I’m cool with anywhere from New Kent to Yorktown…
TIA! :)
Masala craft has some amazing vegan dishes (Williamsburg).
Local vegetarian here! I second Masala Craft, Amiraj as well. Dominion Dogs has veggie dogs and veggie burgers so you can make anything on the menu vegetarian/vegan. Food for Thought has some good options too. Poke Sushi Bowl in Lightfoot is really good and has plenty of options. Old City BBQ has a mushroom sandwich that is really good. Super Chix has fried avocado stuffed with cheese the middle that you can get as a sandwich or on a salad, I loooove the salad. I think Amber Ox switches their menu out seasonally and for lunch/dinner but I had a really good lunch there. Oishii in CW has plenty of really good options there. There's also a new sushi restaurant called Haru sushi we haven't been to yet but looking at their menu it looks like they've got a lot of options. Hope this helps!
Spice Palace has a lot of delicious vegetarian options!
They're very helpful on allergies too!
Oh wow that fried avocado stuffed with cheese is calling my name! Thanks!!
I’d avoid Food for Thought — the owner has a lot of issues that you can google and read about.
Ooof thank you for letting me know!
What kind of veggie burgers does DD use? Impossible / beyond type or the classic veggie patty?
You're better off going to Richmond, eating out here is way too expensive for no reason and always disappointing.
FYI, this is the facebook of a local restaurant.
Drive slightly father than New Kent and go to Blue Atlas … it is amazing and they have quarterly Vegan Takeovers, where everything for a week is vegan. They have plenty of vegan dishes on the menu. Our favorite place!
Also can you please recommend a dish?
With a crowd, Sun Bo Kong. The food is great and you'll roll out the door stuffed for around. $20 each.
Not great value solo. The servings are big and for sharing.
Cool! Thanks. How's that pho compare to the top meat based competitors?
i eat meat and vegetarian pho, and their pho is the best veg version i've had
Pho is great but I think their bowls are way better
Haven’t had any meat pho in a while but their curry soup, eggplant chicken and spring roll plate are immaculate. 20 bucks a dish too, COME ON NOW!
Not strictly vegetarian, but House of Dosas on Kingsway has lots of vegetarian options for $16 and under. They used to have a Monday special for $6 dosas as well but idk if they still do that. Either way, it’s good value imo. The dosas are huge, super filling, and most importantly, tasty
Do Chay. I don't miss meat when I have their Satay noodles.
Interesting thanks. I've got my eye on that pho, if you've tried it, how is it? I don't eat noodles or rice.
I wouldn't go to do Chay for pho, you can get Chay pho almost anywhere for cheaper.
Would recco Viet family for a bunch of different kinds of pho and laksa
Chickpea is huge portions for reasonable cost, I usually always have leftovers to make breakfast with. Would recommend the chickpea fries with whatever you get.
Second Chickpea or MeeT, and also The Burrow. All of them have large portions, good food, inexpensive.
Agreed, I usually share on of their meal plates. Great value and delicious!
