Deck Size and Shape
For vert skating, having the right deck size and shape is crucial. Many users recommend decks around 8.125 inches for versatility across different terrains [1:1]. A wider deck, such as a Carver deck with dimensions of 31.25" L, 9.875" W, and 17.5" WB, provides stability and control, which is essential for vert skating
[2],
[4].
Trucks and Bushings
The choice of trucks can greatly affect your performance on vert ramps. High trucks like Krux Krome or Paris street trucks are popular choices due to their stability and ability to handle the vertical terrain [1:1],
[2]. Hard bushings, such as Bones bushings, are recommended for better control and responsiveness when making sharp turns or pumping
[4:1].
Wheels
Wheel size and hardness are important factors in a vert setup. Users often prefer harder wheels (around 101a) for vert skating because they provide less grip and more speed, which is beneficial for smooth transitions [1:1]. OJ Super Juice wheels at 60mm are also favored for their ability to maintain speed and provide a smooth ride
[2].
Bearings
Quality bearings are essential for maintaining speed and ensuring smooth rides. Zealous bearings are highly recommended for their durability and performance [2],
[4].
Grip Tape
Grip tape plays a vital role in providing traction and control. Jessup grip tape is a popular choice among skaters for its reliability and grip quality [2],
[4].
In summary, a well-rounded vert skateboard setup would include a wider deck for stability, high trucks for maneuverability, hard wheels for speed, durable bearings for smooth rides, and reliable grip tape for control. Each component should be selected based on personal preference and style, but these recommendations offer a solid foundation for building an effective vert skateboard setup.
Newb question.
All of those setups look super similar. Which one is for which and what makes that setup better for that style of terrain?
from left to right its park, street and vert. i prefer softer wheels for street terrain and the others differ in a and b hardness but thats just how i think. but everyone has their own style i guess
whats really the point of three set ups...?
because its fun :)
Could you tell me which truck high and wheels you got on each?
decks are all 8.125, from left to right its titus med lites 5.3 with 83b titus street dogs 53mm, titus low lites 5.3 with so called "steinbeißer" 85a 54mm wheels and krux krome high 8.00 with bones OG's 101a 53mm
Thank you for your reply I assume you are a german skater aswell :)
This is by far my favorite setup of all time. I love the shape and dimensions of this Carver deck, it just fits me perfectly. I have the same deck but with the Knox Phoenix graphic with Carver CX trucks. I set this up with all my favs; 169 Paris street trucks, double bottom Bones bushings, Jessup grip, Zealous bearings, and 60mm OJ super juice wheels. 31.25” L, 9.875” W, 17.5” WB.
Looks awesome!
Very clean
So fresh and so clean.
What trucks and wheels are you using?
Blackriver 5 ply 33.3 Blackriver screws Riptape slim and catchy Blackriver trucks 3.0 34mm illpills street 70D graphic Stock bushings (for now, i have level up beta here and also south soft and white blackriver bushings coming)
Now this is a 10/10
Favorite setup and graphic rn I got 3 more of them including 2 pink ones
5/10 but 10/10 for parts
It needs some fake brts
Y fake brts?
Inside joke, but I'd give it a 5/10 because alot of people have the combo
The fuck? Fake brts? Bro stop buying fake shit. Support the community and buy original
The grip job is ass sorry dude but apart from that 7-8/10
I concur. Looks like my kid did it. Looool
Clean!
Bro the gripjob is fucked up if you want i can give you some tips on how to do It better
It looks like 9/10 but the parts are 10/10. I literally love those wheels and that graphic😭😍😍

Sheeesh that’s awesome I bet that 17 in wheelbase makes pumping this thing feel so good. What kind of bushings are you using for the Paris street trucks and do you recommend them?
Yes the wheelbase is perfect. I’m using hard bones bushings, tall on both top and bottom because Paris trucks are taller with more kingpin.
Looks nice
Check it out!

Lemme know what you think
Dude that pokemon one is sick!! Good quality?
It comes in a random blind bag! The quality feels very solid. It’s bigger than the other boards by a little. I like it!
Just bought 2 lol
How long did it take to get your Pokémon board. Going on 1.5 months already and I don’t see any more of them on their website.
Like 3 months…..
Appreciate it!!! I’ll keep waiting lol
Gotta catch em’ all!
I'm looking to upgrade my board since I got a cheap board to begin with and learn how to do basic tricks and get comfortable riding before I upgraded to a better setup (I wasn't sure if I would like skating so I didn't want to go all out at first). Now that I enjoy skating I was looking at upgrading the setup and was wondering if this a good setup or not? And if there's anything that someone else would recommend please do.
Swiss are amazing bearings but if you wanted to save some money Bones Reds are almost as good.
What deck width do you use so we can make sure the trucks fit? Though it seems like you know what you’re doing.
Seems like you did your research. Good choices.
I ride an 8.375 (size 13 feet). I appreciate your help!
Independent 149 is good then. Some would choose 144 but that’s a preference thing.
You can adjust the washers on either side of your wheel to get a tiny bit more or less width, but it’s not a big deal.
I had a 8.375 and ran indy 144s. I also went through many different wheels and my favourites have been the conical fulls. Nice basket there.
me personally, great setup but i hate how indies turn, and how heavy the baseplates are. i like the smoother turning on slappy or aces and how much lighter they get. , ur choice tho cuz even the hollow stage 11s have a heavy baseplate
I second this. I switched to aces recently after skating indies for over a decade and haven't looked back. Threw some hard bushings on and they are perfect
Don't forget the deck. Try your best to buy local. 99d is a pretty hard wheel, so hopefully you're on some smooth concrete. Thats it tho, glad to hear you're enjoying skating enough to buy a proper board
What wheels should you use for riding concrete/sidewalks/roads?
Powell Peralta Dragon Formula. They come in a few different shapes I have the 93A Nano Rats and they roll on anything I've tried.
That other reply is good recs. I use 87a 53mm ricta clouds. Smooth for my city commute, but still get a nice pop onto boxes
Stage 4s over stage 11s any day man
I don't know anything about the DGK grip but everything else is dialed. If you skate street or asphalt/rough concrete parks then a slightly softer wheels might work better. But that's a legit all around setup.
Tell me how’s those ventures feel kinda want a pair
To me these trucks feel much more stable than the higher ones.. the extra wideness of the board + the lower riding trucks feel totally different from the higher standard trucks and 7.5" board. The only downside is I could land one kickflip out of like 50+ attempts. So, I'm kind of having to relearn how to kickflip on this wider board but Ollie feels much more stable to land on now.
I bet those kickflips are more because of the low trucks than the wide board. I made the switch from low to high trucks and had the same problem.
The kickflip is so much about your timing and when you change the truck height you have to change your timing.
I skate the 7.5 venture low with stars on it. It's my first board in 10 years. A good skater told me they're on the heavy side. It's all I know so to me I don't think my board is heavy.
Do you have 8.25" trucks on an 8" deck, or is it just the angle?
Yeah it looks like that but they are matching 8" trucks/deck
What board company is that
-comet shred 33 -9inch reverse kingpin hollow slappys -1/16th inch ace shock pads/soft risers -58mm 93a powell nano cubics -bones reds bearings
I think she's a beaut, and my god does it ever ride nice. lmk what yall think!
looks fun!
it totally is! nice and wide, and the reverse kingpin with the crazy clearance makes grinds a breeze so far
I low key feel like this might be the next trucks I try. Enjoy!
Sick. I used to downhill on a comet voodoo doll. Looks like a fun setup
Rode a voodoo for a year. That board was a dream on wheels.
love the shape brodie 🤙🏾
Get it
get what?
Your Ollie. Was saying go get it, re your title:)
Pretty sick actually
much thanks 🤙
Obsius x fingerboard tv deck 34mm, Brts 2.0 34mm and illpills 70D street
also Level up bushings are coming soon so dont worry!
So sick, hell yeah! What's the concave like?
tbh i dont know how to explain it but it feels natural to me, big recommend to obsius decks
what shape board is that cus it look a lil wide in the middle. looks sick. when I do another custom I'd love to have one shaped like that
It's a nice deck was gonna grab one when I first started fingerboaring a year ago still one of my favorite graphics
That art work is awesome! I had a vx2000 for my first decent camera setup. The nostalgia for me is real
awful 34mm deck, dynamics se 34mm, level up beta bushings, piro performance wheels
the only complaint i have is the trucks feel kind of stiff even tho i keep them very loose but i guess i could get used to it
If it was your dream setup it would have no complaints! Try new bushings and see if it makes it feel any better 🛹
i actually complain about every new setup before i use it more and get used to it
I use apathy bushings on my SEs. they feel super loose without having to keep the locknut from falling off. 🤙🏼
Just tried ordering a pair as I had never heard of them and they look great… $70 shipped to Canada. Never thought I’d see the day a set of bushings cost 70 bones 😂
It's probably the pivot cups that make them stiff. I usually change them out immediately whenever I buy a new pair of Dynamic SEs
would a headphone's wire work better? that's the only thing i have
🌊
This is due to the geometry of the se baseplates, idk how off it is compared to inverted ones but they make level ups feel different
