Best Ways to Decorate Your Farm in Stardew Valley

Creating Cozy and Themed Areas

One effective way to decorate your farm is by creating small, cozy corners that connect different areas of the farm. You can use fruit tree trails or flower decorations to enhance these spaces [1:1]. Additionally, themed rooms within your farmhouse can add personality; ideas include a book and movie room, a dark room for Krobus, or a gallery with Lupini's paintings [2:1].

Utilizing Seasonal and Functional Decorations

Seasonal plants are a popular choice for decoration as they change with the seasons, adding variety and charm to your farm [1:2]. Consider incorporating functional aesthetics, such as a flower garden with bee hives or trees lined with tappers near picnic spots [5:1]. These elements not only beautify your farm but also serve practical purposes.

Paths and Layout Planning

Paths are essential for connecting different parts of your farm and enhancing its overall design. Choose one or two path styles and maintain consistency throughout [5:1]. Planning your layout using tools like the Stardew Valley Planner can help visualize future designs and ensure everything fits together seamlessly [4:1].

Incorporating Unique Features

Adding unique features like fish ponds, dedicated animal areas, or statue gardens can make your farm stand out [3:2], [4:7]. Coloring animal houses to match themes, such as the pride flag, adds a personal touch and makes your farm visually appealing [4:5].

Using Inspiration and Tools

Looking at other players' farms for inspiration can be helpful if you're struggling with design ideas [3:2]. Using spreadsheets to track progress towards perfection can keep you organized and motivated [4:9]. Remember, there's no right or wrong way to decorate—embrace your style and have fun with it!

I love using seasonal plants! You can buy them at festivals, some of them change to a snowman in the winter!

Try to make small cozy corners and connect everything together. You can use fruit tree trails or flower decos.

Or use the stone walls to give it castle vibes.

I like to have my rooms themed. I never get kids so the kid room is available as well. On this save I have a books an movies room (bookcases, tables with books and the tea set, posters from the movie theatre on the wall), a dark room for Krobus to chill in (no windows, the stone furniture, sewer fish), a room with the craftable dark signs to display my rings and weapons, and I'm working on a gallery (all of Lupini's paintings). Previous save had a museum and a tea room with tea, tea saplings and Caroline's castle decal on the wall.

I buy all of the catalogues and other things I like throughout the playthrough as soon as I have money to burn.

Have a look at the r/FarmsofStardewValley sub, the people on there are insanely creative

Farm improvement ideas

Like... Does anyone have any ideas on how to make my farm prettier? I tried to make a nice garden, but it still doesn't suit me too much. It turns out that there is very little decor in Stardew, especially useful ones... There are no arches for beautiful passages, no normal bushes for a living fence (which is why I planted GRASS), there are not even beautiful lanterns comparable to those in the city. I'M NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO PAINT THESE UGLY FENCES WHITE. And yes, I myself see a couple of things where I can do better, but I can't until winter comes and I can remove the plants without losing money xD

And, in general, I mean exactly gardens, and not that catastrophe of chests and devices that is located above :D ❤️

P.S: ofc I can install mods for the arches for example, but I want to play with this save in vanilla :(

It’s a good start especially with the crop layout I’d say add more paths from your house to connect everything, maybe move your animal buildings to a corner or other section and fence it off with a nice grazing area, maybe some fish ponds with whatever decor you have that seems it would fit. Also looking at inspo from actual gifted creative people helped me a lot lmao

I agree! Dedicated animal area, give your chickens some more space, poor things :D paths to connect everything too. As for decorations and bushes - some decorations from the furniture catalogues can be placed outside (like decorative plants for example). Then there’s the seasonal decor plants, not entirely sure if they’re in the regular furniture catalogue, but they can be bought at some festivals - Pierre sells them at the egg festival for example and one of the boats at the night market does too. Theres also a bunch of statues which can be acquired through random events (like the owl), secrets or fishing. And then there’s also a bunch of decorations, bigger and smaller plants and Junimo plushies in particular to be won at the crane game in the movie theater. There’s a whole lot of decorations if you know where to look ;) If you don’t like the actual fencing options, you could also opt to frame your crops / animal areas etc with something else, like lightning rods or those tall plant columns from the furniture catalogue (those could perhaps also at least function as a sort of visual gate in lieu of proper arches?) or braziers (robin sells the recipe, there’s a bunch of different ones) or even planted tea bushes

(lmao I don't think I put the discussion tag, but in any case I didn't understand which would be better, since the 'design' tag is supposed to be for finished works (?), and 'question' for other topics)

I love this layout!

What may be fun is a statue garden across from the building that is under construction?

GalaxyK1tten · OP · 7 months ago

I've already filled that area with fish ponds. So it's 2x2 to the right side and 2x3 on the side where it's under construction. Hoooweeeever... Right below those fishpond is a tiny little lake, and a grass filled area. I should totally make a garden in that place! So thank you for that idea. 🤩

GalaxyK1tten · OP · 7 months ago

Hiii!

So I wanted to show of my work in progress farm where I am right now. While also asking for some tips of decoration specifically.

I do have a plan for where to put machines, buildings, gold clock and obelisks, and stuff like that.
https://stardew.info/planner/21-brave-toads-fought-easily
Future plans can be found in the Planner link above. It's approximate. Things like lamp posts, and exactly which tile to place smaller stuff on may move around, but something like this is sorta planned. :)

Mods of note:

* Automate : The jars, bee hives, tappers and mushroom logs ARE accessible with this mod that automates them into chests.

* Let's Move It : Has only been used to move the annoying immovable bushes in the top right corner by the marriage corner.

* Vibrant Pastoral + Redrawn : Recolored textures!

But this is the first time I'm not ONLY building for efficiency, but I'm also trying to be sorta efficient BUT ALSO decorative!
Can I make it more efficient? Sure ofc I can, but this is good enough.. I want to make it pretty!

Stardew Planner doesn't have all the decorations, so I've mostly been filling the map out with grass and lamp posts.
So now I'm asking for some ideas here on the decoration part. How to make it -pretty- :D
With the future Planner layout in mind. ^^

Thank you for all your ideas! <3 :D

Tips for decorating your farm?

Posted by Momonica05 · in r/StardewValley · 3 years ago

So… I don’t really know if there’s even tips for something like this but i see so many beautiful farms and I was never able to do that. I’m currently on my third playthrough (the first one I deleted for dumb reasons and this one is on my switch) and decided to go for a different farm layout: the riverland farm. With that being said, what do you do to help the decorations on your farm? I usually like to make things useful too, without unnecessary stuff like a picnic place (though it sounds cute)

Grass starters to line fences, paths

2 upvotes on reddit
Aleth3ia · 3 years ago

Think of aesthetic things that could also function efficiently. A flower garden with bee hives, picnic spot but line the trees with tappers. If symmetry is your thing go for it, but randomness and organic designs work just as well. Paths can help, pick one or two paths you like and keep it consistent. A cohesive colourscheme or theme throughout your farm if you'd like to can also look good. Best of luck!

Hey pro decorators: I recently reached perfection and started decorating my farm inside and out which before this was very drab and purely functional. Inside is still not quite where I want it to be but I’m having the most trouble with outside. I know it will take time but I’m feeling very uninspired at the moment. I’m happy with the basic layout and want to leave the animal space quite open. Any tips for how to make my farm look a bit more inviting/exciting?

When I see it, it just seems too… linear? Like everything similar is on the same row. Junimo hits? Same row. Barns? Same row.

Try staggering your buildings a bit?

Have you tried planning in Stardew Planner?

They need to add whole areas or at least a couple places around town that are specifically for decorating... I can never bring myself to do stuff like this because all I can think of for my farm is using space as efficiently as possible.

You can actually decorate the entire village but if you put something in the path an NPC or an NPC walks through it gets destroyed.

Tub 'o' flowers (along with other potted plants but tub 'o' flowers is the best imo) is pretty versatile and looks pretty almost anywhere. Separating your areas with fences is also a nice, simple way to make things look better. I did both of these with my farm, here it is if you want to have a look.

Use https://stardew.info/ to plan your farm. Then take a day or two (preferably at the end of the season just after harvesting) to rearrange the whole farm.

For purple themes, I'd say a lot of cherry tree (not really purple but it's close enough). Then get the Slime Hutch and Water Obelisk. Plant a lot of Grapes, Amaranth, Eggplant, Red Cabbage, Fairy Rose.

Just to add to what the others have already said - I'm glad you're removing some of the flooring. Perhaps leave more space for grass to grow - you can plant trees up by the railway or on the quarry.

This!!! I couldn't quite figure out a nice way to say that! I find the absence of trees & the sterile neatness of an outdoor space unsettling somehow. I also grew up in farm country so I'm influenced by that. I have some crystal paths & stone pathing but I guess if you have a clock, you don't need to worry about that? What do you use?

Best ways to decorate your farm in stardew valley

Here are some key considerations for decorating your farm in Stardew Valley:

  1. Theme and Style: Decide on a theme for your farm (e.g., rustic, modern, or whimsical) to create a cohesive look. Use items that match your chosen style.

  2. Layout: Plan your farm layout carefully. Consider using paths to create walkways and designate areas for crops, animals, and decorations. This helps with organization and aesthetics.

  3. Fencing and Walls: Use fences to create boundaries for different areas. You can mix and match different types of fences for a unique look.

  4. Furniture and Decor: Utilize furniture items like benches, tables, and chairs to create cozy spots. Decorative items like statues, flower pots, and seasonal decorations can add personality.

  5. Gardening: Plant flowers and trees strategically around your farm. Use seasonal crops and flowers to add color and variety throughout the year.

  6. Lighting: Incorporate lighting items like torches, lamps, and fairy lights to enhance the ambiance, especially at night.

  7. Animal Areas: Create designated spaces for your animals with barns, coops, and outdoor pens. Decorate these areas with hay, water troughs, and other animal-related items.

Recommendation: Consider using the "Farm Layout" feature to plan your farm before placing items. You can also check out online communities for inspiration and ideas from other players. Don't hesitate to experiment with different arrangements until you find what feels right for your farm!
