TL;DR
Stardrops for Permanent Energy Increase
Stardrops are the primary way to permanently increase your maximum energy in Stardew Valley. There are seven stardrops available in the game, which can be obtained through various achievements and purchases [1:2]
[5:2]. For example, you can acquire a stardrop at the Stardew Valley Fair by exchanging tokens
[1:5]. Other sources include finding them in the mines or purchasing from special vendors
[2:3].
Food and Cooking for Temporary Energy Boosts
Eating food is essential for replenishing energy during gameplay. Certain foods not only restore energy but also provide temporary stat boosts. For instance, Spicy Eel gives +1 Speed and Luck, while Crab Cakes offer +1 Speed and Defense [3:2]. Befriending Linus allows you to make Sashimi from cheap fish, providing an efficient energy source
[2:7]. Additionally, trail bars and berries like salmonberries are useful early-game energy sources
[2:3]
[2:4].
Using the Hot Spring/Spa
The hot spring or spa is a great place to restore energy without consuming any items. Located near the train station, it becomes accessible in summer and provides a free way to replenish energy [2:1]
[3:3]. Many players find it helpful to visit the spa before heading into the mines or after a long day of farm work
[4:9].
Improving Tool Efficiency and Skills
Upgrading tools and increasing skill proficiency can significantly reduce energy consumption. As you level up skills like farming or mining, you'll use less energy for related tasks [5:2]. Upgraded tools, such as a copper watering can, allow you to cover more area with less effort
[4:5]. Investing in tool upgrades and focusing on skill development can help manage energy better over time.
Additional Tips
Eat food to replenish energy. Aside from that stardrops increase the bar, but there’s only 7 in the game unless you cheat them in with the name glitch
stardrops increase ur energy permanently but there’s only a handful u can get
gotchu . thanks ! : )
The wiki says you have to eat it straight away - so when I buy it at the fair, I can’t put it in my inventory or chest for later? This seems odd to me 😅
no u eat it straight after u bought it
Getting stardrops increase energy level, and increasing proficiency in each skill lowers its energy use.
So, first example, at level 10 fishing, you use less energy per cast than level 1. Your equipment also helps, a steel axe is better than a wooden one.
gotcha . thanks ! : )
Ooo also I think your first chance to get a stardrop fruit is at the stardew Valley Fair. Make a high-quality Grange display and play some of the games to get enough tokens and you can buy a stardrop. Also if you unlock the secret Woods in the cindersap forest there's a way to get a stardrop there too
Bet green on the wheel at the fair
As everybody else has been stardrops, also I've heard that going to the bathhouse will restore your energy but not permanently increase it. Also start to befriend Caroline and once you get her tea leaf recipe you can grow tea leaves and make tea. Drinking tea I'm pretty sure gives you max energy and also increases your total energy level but only for the next few minutes or so
It’s a problem that goes away by the time you hit mid-game as a result of two things:
Thank you! I've started upgrading my tools as of recently.
In the early game, trail bars saved my life. I would save all my seeds and keep a stack on me until Salmonberry season started, and then I could use those. Otherwise, Stardrops help a lot, and you can get one in the mine and in the fall during a festival.
Thank you I shall try them out more!, I got the mushroom cave so that's been a big help, trying to get a nice stack of those
Mushroom cave all the way!!
Edit- don’t forget to check trash cans- especially the saloon and Granny’s house. You sometimes get lucky and get meals which often give you a lot more energy than foraging.
Before I'm rich and just buy salads from the Saloon, I keep a stack of salmon- and blackberries. They're easy to gather in tremendous amounts, nobody likes them, and they only sell for 2g each so they're not good for much else. It's a bit time consuming, but eating berry after berry will get that energy back up eventually.
There's also the hot spring near the mine if you used up all your stamina in there--or want to fill it up before you go in.
Thank you!
Befriending Linus early on let's you turn all of your cheap fish (mostly the stuff from thr crab pot) into Sashimi as soon as you get the Kitchen which helps a lot.
You can use the items you get from your farm cave to replenish your energy if you have it unlocked or with the berries from the ground.
There is a hot spring in the upper corner of the map (near where the train passes) you can use it to replenish your energy... although it's a long walk. I didn't usually use it, but maybe you'll get along better with it.
There are some star fruits that you find in mine or in events that increase your maximum energy/life too, you can keep an eye out for them. The kitchen is good for cooking things for energy and buffing other things.
Thank you very much this helps!
Hi, I have been playing stardew valley on and off, but I have always given up when I cant reach the next checkpoint in the mines becuase my energy runs out
How do I prevent this?
Bring food with you. Any crop you grow or find on the ground will typically heal your energy and health a lil bit
Cooked food gives more energy and certain buffs. I like to bring Spicy Eel (gives you +1 Speed and Luck) and Crab Cakes (+1 Speed and Defense). Crab Cakes also restore a TON of energy.
You want speed to be able to get more mining done faster, which helps you to get to lower levels faster if you're short on time. Look through the list of foods on the Wiki and pick the ones that give you the most energy, and are cheap and easy to get.
Something I didn't saw in the comments is that you can regenerate stamina at the spa if it's unlocked (summer 3) I have seen a lot of people that didn't know this at the beginning and it's so helpful!
Try to kill all the monsters in the floors because they can spawn the stairs too and u don't waste energy
Idk if you’re doing the thing I did when I started (only using the ladder) so I’m just gonna make sure you know about the elevator
Coffee.
I am new to SDV and still learning the game. I'm on year 2 summer. I am trying to mine, fish, farm anything to make money. But I don't have enough energy to water, fish and mine. So all the money I earn I go and spend it on bread so I can eat. I have passed out in the mine a few times and lost money/resources as a result.
What is a cheaper way to keep my energy up? I don't want to eat my crops if they are making me money right?
EDIT: Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I am very new to the game and you all are so helpful. This is truly a wonderful community 👏 ❤️
Maybe you should stop by the Spa have a dip in the pool for a bit when you're feeling tired.
In multi-player you can lay on your bed select no to the sleep prompt and you'll recover energy.
Thank you! I just found out the bath house can be used for this. Had no idea (super new to game).
I played forever didn’t realize I had to walk into the pool itself to get energy. So silly but I didn’t even know it was a doorway. 😂
Early game, I always take a soak in the bath house on my way to the mines.
Absolutely a top tier energy/health option. Investing in even the 2nd level barn and gradually rolling out 8 gold star cheese a day makes so much of the game easier for both energy and health recovery.
Invest into sprinklers. That way you can save time and energy to other money making.
This is simply the only answer, sprinklers are the biggest key to everything else in the game. If youre watering four fields by hand (or mostly by hand) half the day and all your energy is gone.
Yes I need this! The watering is taking up so much of my energy/time. I'll do that. Thank you!
In case you didn't know, Clint can upgrade your watering can to water multiple tiles at a time. Copper is up to 3 in a line, iron is up to 5, gold is a 3x3 square, and iridium is a 3x6 rectangle
Also, your crops won't die if you skip a day off watering. They just won't grow that night. This is something I didn't realize on my first playthrough! But if you would like to time your upgrade so you don't miss any days, you can check the forecast. On a day where it says it will rain tomorrow, water everything then take it to Clint. You can pick it up 2 days later, sou'll only be missing your watering can on the day when it's raining
use the furnace and put quartz to have refined quartz that can be use to craft sprinklers! people often overlook this.
Alternatively, don't eat. Use no-energy time to wander the map for forage, do quests, carry things to the community center, bring geodes to the blacksmith, and fight monsters (especially if you've enabled Monsters Spawn at Night).
There are 4 main ways
(1) Stardrops (purple, not the fruit you can grow—these will permanently increase ypur your max hp/stam. There are only 7 total awarded from one-time events/purchases throughout the game.
(2) Food/cooking—certain food will give you temporary stat boosts...some of these can last almost all day.
(3) Skill Proficiency—each time you level one up, you will increase your proficiency with the corresponding activity & tool. (e.g. leveling farming reduces the amount of stamina to swing a hoe)
(4) Upgrading Tools—makes them require less stamina to use (and other additional improvements)
There's something called Stardrops that you get for accomplishing certain tasks/milestones.
Other than stardrops, you kinda don't. You just get better foods, weapons and other equipment.
Increasing your combat level will sometimes give you higher health bar, and eating Starfruit will increase energy bar. Starfruits are rare, from memory you can get one from the quality crops festival by cashing in your points, and the guy in the sewer will also give you one. Another is given by giving a shrine in the hidden woods a sweet gem berry
*stardrop! I keep forgetting there are two different ones
Question
As you complete certain milestones, you receive a permanent energy boost.
yes
Ah, you must be very new
Yea started yesterday
The easiest boost is getting to lvl 100 of the mines. You will receive an item that will boost your energy forever. Other places to get it is the SDV fair in fall and getting married.
I’m new to the game, and was just wondering what everyone’s personal thoughts are on how they get their energy besides sleeping. What are the most efficient ways? Easiest ways? Thank you!
I really like gold quality hops to top up my health (if I've lost up to 50% of my health for example), and cheese or life elixir if I have lost at least 70% of my health. Crystal fruit is also a great option.
If you're past the 3rd of summer you can >!go to the spa by the train tracks and hold still in the water to restore energy!< but that only works if you're in the area, like working in your farm all day. Otherwise I personally like make fried eggs or omelettes if you have chickens and cows. You get both recipes early and get eggs and milk daily. I don't know if that's really the most efficient use for eggs and milk, but it's simple enough to work for me.
If your eggs and milk are higher quality, an omelet will give you less nutrition than eating eggs and milk directly.
In year 1, salmonberry. Those always fuel through the mines.
I always eat cheese in the beginning, and throughout - unless I want the boosts that come with certain recipes. I always have LOTS of cheese.
Your farmers going to have some serious stomach issues
Found the Skyrim player
My choices:
Early game: spring onions, salmonberry (can be collected 15th-18th of spring), field snack (crafted from tree seeds), blackberry (can be collected 15th-18th of fall). // Efficient because you can get so many and only have 1 inventory slot taken. Some double nicely as gifts, too
Later: Quality cheese, cactus fruit, //Lots of energy, don't interfere with boosts.
General honorable mentions: sashimi (cooked from cheap fish), salad (bought from Saloon)
Currently day 9 in my first year of Summer right now.
And what should I work towards so I can have more energy for mining?
Year one, berries are your best bet. Foraging levels 4, 8 and 12(10 + 2 foraging buff) each add one berry per bush(max 4) Salmonberries are Spring 15-18 and Blackberries are Fall 8-11. During those times focus on berry picking and look to get a stack of a couple hundred at least.
Field snacks, crafted from one of each tree seed, as well as various foragables.
For beginners, yes.
For everyone else, Totally disagree. Most of your tree seeds should be replanted to make foraging wood sustainable. Do you know how much wood 500 kegs uses? Sure you can buy it but each seed replanted is 200g later on you don’t have to buy. And each field snack is 3 seeds, or 600g. By summer you should have berries, water bath, etc.
I survived on wild onions, salmon berries, grapes, blackberries, algae, seaweed, random seasonal foaragables and food I found in the dumpsters until I had enough money to buy cows and turn their milk into cheese which is a great source of energy.
The bath house, it's free x3 annnnnd right next to the mine
It honestly took me playing for an actual-real-life year before my husband told me this trick.
I used fish early on. Spent a day or two fishing and had plenty to eat when I needed energy. Mix that with berries and you can go all day and night
I just planted some bushes and feel like I’m gonna pass out lol, never complaining about level 1 energy ever again 😂
also if you hold the hoe above your head for a few seconds before slamming it into the earth, it'll do the entire bed in one hit.
this guy doesn't even have any upgrades smh
Except irl this is often an issue of water more than of food! If you feel lightheaded, you're dehydrated. Go drink some water and probably have a salty snack
personally, i think the start of the game's energy is very well-balanced. you have to pick a task and commit, because varying exp levels means varying amount of energy per tool use means varying amount of productivity total in one day for each task. in later game you have more nergy and have easy cash to spend on food to get quick energy. it just takes a big part of the strategizing out. now, of course, this is THE cozy life sim with farming elements. it's not meant to be hard, it's meant to be fun and cozy. additonally, you could always just ignore stardrops and opt out of buying high-healing food if you wan- i know what my next playthrough's challenge is suddenly
Plus it makes you do other stuff: ooh I'm exhausted, let's go in town say hello to other people.
exactly. in late game, i flat out forget ther'es npcs for the most part and it's just farm, money, farm, mney, etc.
Just keep eating cheese while you work! (Just kidding, don’t do this.)
Cheese and milk. A LOT of it... In your backpack.
Doesn’t have to be the stuff you made today either.
Milk you got from the cow last spring? Totally good for you.
Chug that mayonnaise!
Yeah I found this loaf of bread in the trash can, eat that instead.
you risking it with no scarecrows!
