TL;DR
Versatile Weapons
The Justice is frequently mentioned as a top choice due to its versatility across different missions and enemy types. It's considered a reliable weapon that can handle various situations effectively [5:4],
[5:7]. The Paragon also receives praise for its effectiveness against bugs and its slow effect, which can be advantageous in controlling the battlefield
[5:2],
[5:8].
Faction-Specific Recommendations
Different weapons excel against specific factions. For instance, the Breaker Incendiary is noted for its effectiveness against bugs due to its ability to deal with hordes of unarmored units [5:2],
[5:3]. Against Cyborgs, the Breaker is recommended for handling unarmored units, while armored units may require anti-tank weapons
[5:2]. The Scorcher is highlighted as a strong option against Illuminates because its fire damage prevents shield regeneration
[5:2].
Weapon Balance and Personal Preference
The game has seen improvements in weapon balance, making most weapons viable choices depending on personal playstyle and strategy [3:1],
[3:3]. Players are encouraged to try different weapons and find what suits their preferences and tactics best
[4:10],
[5:6]. Some players prefer slower firing, high-power weapons, while others opt for those with higher burst DPS
[1:4].
New Player Recommendations
For new players, starting with versatile weapons like the Justice or Tanto can be beneficial as they learn the mechanics and strategies of the game [5:6]. While the Trident is known for being overpowered, it might not encourage skill development due to its ease of use
[5:6].
Overall, the choice of weapons in Helldivers 2 largely depends on personal preference, mission objectives, and enemy types. Experimenting with different loadouts and adapting to the situation will enhance gameplay experience.
So I’m back at playing Helldivers 2 again after months of not playing it and honestly glad I’m back cause I forgot how good the game is. I just want to know what are the weapons to use now since they nerfed and buffed weapons with the updates. Last time I played was when the first warbond pack came out. Is the sickle rifle still good? Give me some suggestions on primary weapons to use against automatons/bugs that people are using now and what strategem weapons too. I found out that the quasar luncher takes a long time to recharge now and the auto cannon is hella good now. Thanks!
What you will usually see it Dominator or Scorcher on bots and Sickle or Incendiary breaker on bugs.
Most weapons however are viable, but this is the general pattern.
I've been maining the Scorcher, but yesterday I dropped down with the Diligence Counter Sniper. It is definitely viable if you can move around undetected.
Used to main Diligence too, but its weakness is no stagger on heavy and rocket devastators that are virtually impossible to deal with from front with that gun (at least with my aim), switched to eruptor and its great, even staggers rocket devastators so you can two shot them before they launch their salvo, and takes out scout striders with one groin shot. Only weakness are berserkers that get too close too soon.
DCS is very good for popping devastator heads.
Plasma punisher is clutch on bots the aoe locks down while squads. And it can 2 tap striders everytime.
Good:
Decent:
"Bad":
I think that you discount the standard liberator. It's a perfectly fine gun; marginally worse than the sickle maybe, but the DPS is fairly similar, it has no spin-up time, and you can keep firing for longer when accounting for reloads
I tried to be conservative because we know how this sub is, if I had to do it more based on what I think the list would look like this
OP:
Good:
Decent but not great (or niche):
One of the very few times I agree with a primary weapons take on this subreddit
Great list and agree with every choice
Personally I feel like its burst DPS is too high and magazine too small, so it absolutely melts part of a patrol and leaves me on reload for the rest.
YMMV as I've always liked more powerful slower firing weapons. I also don't care for the new carbine (that doesn't mean it's "bad").
The good weapons are the ones you enjoy playing, friend. Go try em and see what sticks with you.
Just use what weapon you like to use, most weapons are viable in some way
New player here, just got the game 4 days ago. Most of the discussion I've seen around here is about the balancing and how the fun/good guns are nerfed to shit.
So as new player what guns should I be look forward to getting then? What guns are worth in locking first? Which warbond should I get first?
Honestly anything works under difficulty 7 as long as you have ways of killing heavies with strats or support weapons, and grenades for mediums.
The liberator (default AR) has gotten a pretty decent buff and is still good at higher difficulties too. The default pistol is also massively slept on. Those two will cover you very well for dealing with light enemies, but at higher difficulties you see a lot of medium armour (hiveguard/devestators), for bugs I think that grenades still work well, but for bots you start to want one of your non-support weapons to be able to deal with medium which is where people start picking up senator/adjudicator/diligence counter-sniper.
I think in general the "good" guns are:
Light AP: Sickle, Breaker Incendiary, Liberator, Peacemaker, Redeemer.
Medium AP: Dominator, Diligence Counter Sniper, Adjudicator, Senator.
For primary, get Cutting Edge and unlock stun grenades and a sickle. It's essentially a better Liberator with (kinda) unlimited ammo.
Against bugs the best support to me is the Arc Thrower, as it bypasses armor and can kill almost anything. Chargers will only take quite a few shots to the head, and bile Titans will need a 500KG , or you could bring an Expendable Anti-Tank as well, as a backup option.
Against bots, I like the Anti-Materiel Rifle with a resupply backpack. You get a lot of ammo this way, headshots will kill devastators quickly, two shots against scout striders, two shots to the hulk's eye will kill it (a lot easier to do if you use stun grenades), and it can destroy tanks and turrets if you aim at the back vent
Struggled to find anything useable. At the moment Autocannon with the new SMG to stagger enemies or breaker incendiary is okay with bugs. But I run out of ammo fast. Been using my senator a lot more than is viable. Even running 5's is proving a weapon challenge.
Machine gun. Cutting edge, ammo backpack
I think under difficulty 7, most guns are good.
Starting at 7, the spawn rates are higher and the tough enemies are more numerous, and in that context, some weapons are more reliable than others and require less specific strategem configurations.
It becomes a question of load out. Like, let's say I want to use EAT as my support weapon, and I grab the basic liberator. I'm going to struggle against bile spewers and brood commanders, so I have to build around that. Some primaries are actually decent against them, and allow more flexibility. I've using the autocannon against bugs. It's good against the medium bugs, not so good against bile titans and is difficult to use against chargers. Because of reload, my choice primary is the punisher. It has good killing power, the rounds reload means I can always top it off, and the knockback means I can allow bugs to get even closer without risking it, since I can shoot a bug once and interrupt it's attack, making it easier for me to find windows to reload.
So I take stun grenades to help with chargers and reloading, and grenade pistol as a way to close bug holes (I can reload on the move, unlike autocannon).
I have no.safe way of hurting bile titans, so I grab orbital rail (even if no kill, it opens the armor for my autocannon) and 500kg bomb (in case of more than one, also decent for big breaches and buildings).
I now have a wopping 1 strategem to fbe flexible with (always eagle airstrike), or I have to completely rely on my team to kill certain kinds of bugs.
I played a ton of Helldivers the first few months at launch and it was amazing to say the least. But it was also during that time where balance was out the window. It was always breaker + rail gun + shield because it really was that good. I never liked using the rail gun and opted for the auto cannon because of how much ammo you could carry + cool factor. But there was an undeniable meta at the time which I was not a fan of. After coming back, is this still the case? I'd imagine that some gun perform better than others, but what I wanna know is there a big difference between the "best" weapon and the "worst" weapon. Or is the game in a state where I could pick whatever I think is coolest and still kick ass. Also this is coming from a player who only plays levels 5-7.
There really hasn’t been a meta for a while, I’ve been using a bunch of weapons every other game.
Yes they are pretty well balanced now. There are a few guns that are lacking still but any gun can be used now without worrying about the “meta”
Weapons have mods now. That's up to you.
There are a variety of useful weapons now yes.
Basically every weapon is usable now, yes. Of course, certain weapons are better against certain factions - the Adjudicator's good against regular bugs, less so against Predator Strain bugs. The Constitution isn't great, but that's the only outlier I can think of as being an outright bad gun.
Ballistic shield, super earth flag, viper commando armor. I am the super Spartan.
Peak Physique is my favorite set bonus and works so well with weapons i use.
“THIS IS DEMOCRAAAACYYYYYY!!!!”
My favourite weapon is myself because who else is gonna carry the boats, the logs and the portable Hellbombs?
THEY DON'T KNOW ME SON
All I need is a portable hellbomb, expendable rocket launchers and liberty.
I can guarantee both the mission’s completion and a very high expenditure of democratic resources. Including helldivers.
EXCEPT if you drop a napalm air strike on the nest that i'm about to go clear. i get it, napalm funny, but this isn't Vietnam, you don't need to burn the bugs out of their holes before blowing them to bits
Of course not you do it at the same time Duhhhh Fires and explosions!!!!💥💥🔥🔥
The customer is always right in matters of taste
I'm pretty new to the game (rank 13) and would like to know what the community thinks is some of the best weapons in the game.
Assuming you are just talking about primary weapons :
Infamously overpowered against everything (including fellow divers) : Trident.
Jacks of all trades : Justice, Sickle, Parangon.
Against Bugs : Parangon (strong enough to damage brood commanders + slow effect), Railgun (not for damage, but its stun effect makes it an awesome support/control tool).
Against Cyborgs : Breaker (awesome against hordes of anything unarmored. Cyborg armored units will require antitank weapons anyway).
Against Illuminates : Scorcher (fire DoT prevents shield regeneration), Punisher (one of the few weapons capable of one-shooting scouts in difficulty 13+, but struggles against stronger units), Patriot (illuminates have no armor to mitigate its theoretical dps).
Note that I have only mentionned primaries that have a noticeable advantage compared to others. There are a lot of weapons that can still pull their weights in those situations too, but the list would be too long therefore less useful.
For cyborgs I find breaker is best
For bugs I think patriot (for shredding patrols) justice or paragon are good
For illuminate I just use the trident, but trident (if used well) is a good all purpose sort of weapon
if you gotta pick just one? justice
This is the way. Any mission, any difficulty, any enemy - Justice is the gun I know I can count on to handle it.
My Top 6 (dependent on Faction, Lvl, Team)
• LAS-12 Tanto
• SG-225 Breaker
• AR-14D Paragon
• LAS-16 Sickle
• MP-98 Knight SMG
• AC-3 Arc Thrower
I can not get into the Arc Thrower
They all have their pros and cons, and all have their time and place depending on the situation.
BUT - if you’re new, the Justice is your best bet until you learn all of the guns.
Tanto can be a good beginner gun as well. But please, no Trident. Very over used, and can be a crutch that holds you back from real development.
Best of luck, hope to see you out there!
What are the best weapons and stratagems to use after the update? Is breaker, railgun, shield pack still the best to use? I used explosive liberator earlier and it’s still trash so kinda lost on what my primary should be, is breaker still the move even after the nerf?
The new sickle is great. Same with the final gun in the warbonds.
which warbond final gun? The cutting edge one?
Probably talking about the Scorcher at the end of the regular warbond.
The Slugger is certainly worth experimenting with. I don't guarantee you'll like it, but the ammo buff made it more worth taking overall.
Turrets are still good in general. The ship upgrade that gives additional Eagle runs before rearming is very valuable.
I can’t tell if the slugger got weaker or the bugs got stronger. I swear I was 2-3 shotting spewers in the head and now it takes a lot more headshots.
They have armored heads now
Flamethrower is amazing now! Slugger is strong, breaker is still good honestly. Laser cannon is great now too.
Breaker should still be good, I recommend the laser cannon suooort weapon heard it got buff
Considering the breaker barely got a nerf, it's still pretty good.
The railgun now needs to be used in unsafe mode and overcharged a little but otherwise it's the same.
The shield takes longer to regen when broken completely but it's still the same in practice.
The laser cannon seems good now.
The flamethrower too, though it's too short-range to use vs. bots, a jetpack for mobility is recommended.
the arc thrower it's still my favorite gun and it can take out everything in game as long as you can keep yourself alive. Your teammates might not be so lucky.
The spear has better ammo economy now since you can get more missiles from the random ammo in the map. The lock in is still wonky but it's good vs bots.
Didn't try out the arty myself but a teammate dropped a 380mm and no helldiver got hurt in the process so that's an incredible improvement.
The meteor shower can and will fuck you up, I died 4 times to those damn rocks while fighting bots in Tien Kwan.
Are we talking about the vanilla breaker, or the spray n pray?
Plz deliver, op
Cleared from HQ to return to field. Dad soldier.
Missing multiple warlords. Is there a priority order?
Also, what's your favorite primary/secondary/throwable for bugs, bots and squids? Please also note customization recommendations.
I'll see you on the beach!

My current bug build is gas and fire, it's fun.
Thats a you question...
Everyone’s gonna say democratic detonation for the thermite nades, crossbow etc. sure that’s a general thing but thermite nades arent for everyone me included.
Depends on what role you like! Viper commandos gives stronger stims and a neat little carbine that throws 45 rounds of screw off at 800rpm, that coupled with the stim pistol in chemical agents makes you a field medic that all fronts will appreciate, not front more so, the amount of times I’ve said “hey I got stim pistol and medic armor, lemme handle your little bumps and bruises” and exited with atleast a dozen lifesaving moments is nuts!
However if being a medic isn’t your speed, I gotta present polar patriots for an amazing ammo efficient plasma rifle that really hits the heavy charged plasma rifle fantasy, polar patriots also has my favourite gun the tenderizer which is basically an “oh crap” weapon, super high flesh damage and it’s a bullet hose, also has the verdict which is a medium pen sidearm think a desert eagle!
The most versatile is urban legends, its armor is 10/10. Congrats you are just better with guns, more mags, faster reload etc. the anti tank emplacement also washes out any type of threat that you can’t rip through with your beefed up guns.
Overall man, each warbond is terrific for its own purpose. Steeled vets concussive rifle is a big crowd control machine and truth enforcers lets you put some real weight behind your weapons too. Truth enforcers has a flechette and stun round shotgun or an smg that will kick like a mule but will also knock over most enemies no problem.
Everyone’s gonna say “get democratic detonation” but not everyone wants an anti tank solution that has you run up and toss a thermite grenade or plink away at crowds with an explosive crossbow.
Just take a look around my man, spill oil!
TLDR Medic and team support: chemical agents/viper commandos. Run and gun: urban legends/ polar patriots/ truth enforcers
What are some recommended must have weapons, stratagems, grenades, armor etc ..?
Any tips and tricks I need to know?
And just for fun some of the best ship names?
:)
90% of people are gonna disagree but the chemical agent warbond is really fun to use and has the nicest armor even if the passive is meh

Half the fun is trying the toys! I’d say read some descriptions and see if you find something to your likings.
In higher difficulties people get more focused on META loadouts but for id just go for what seems fun.
It will depend on your playstyle..but you’ll probably end up having many.
Democratic detonation is a very solid first choice, after that go for what sounds fun to you.
Everyone will have different preferences but I’ll list what i normally run.
Liberator Penetrator (Primary), Senator or Ultimatum (Secondary) and High Explosive or Incendiary Grenades.
For armour, my preference is any armour with the Siege Ready mod (increases primary weapon reload by 30% and increases ammo by 20%) but it completely depends on your play style.
Stratagem wise, most of the eagles will do the trick (my go to is the eagle airstrike). I’ll pair that with any of the machine gun / stalwart / heavy machine guns and a sentry turret and a rover backpack.
Edit: This is my loadout for bugs specifically, and really only works with a full team. This is NOT a solo loadout lol
This is, without a doubt, one of the worst tier lists I have ever seen. So many weapons so many levels below their actual quality.
I can't even say that you are drastically overvaluing any of them, but SO MANY guns multiple tiers below where they should be.
Counter Sniper vs bots is amazing
This. Ever since its handling *finally* got buffed (as well as its damage), it is brilliant as dispatching both chaff, and devastators.
Every precision weapon in E tier is solid proof you do not play against bots much. Not at all a fan of this list. Granted it is a "personal selection" so I guess it being entirely your arbitrary opinion means you can make the tierlist this way and it's legitimate.
That said, you did post this to a public forum so I assume you are looking to start some kind of discussion, so I will continue the discussion by saying I strongly disagree with almost every ranking in this list.
I am mildly confident that you only have used a few of these weapons yourself for more than an hour or two and for the rest of the weapons you just copy-pasted whatever the general subreddit's opinion is, hence why stuff like the tenderizer and eruptor are so low. That and you also probably play against bots very little.
Very poor tiering, I must say.
Oh boy...
not your style ? :D
Some of the choices are baffling. How is the Punisher an E-Tier? And if the Sickle is S-Tier, so is the Breaker Incendiary.
The normal Breaker is also more than a C imho. The Counter Sniper is pretty much great, at least against Bots.
Liberator + Adjudicator are also fine. Maybe not Top-Tier, but definitely not E.
The Scythe and Eruptor are also most definitely not crap.
Liberator and punisher plasma way too low.
you like the liberator ? i think up to tier 5 yes. C-D or more up ?
Both are B imo
Punisher plasma is probably A tier for bots
Defender is objectively better than the liberator in every way except projectile speed, and you have that in crap tier. We dont understand.
So, I started playing Helldivers 2 about a week ago, and have managed to get myself to level 24. However, while I’ve managed to take on rank 4 difficulty solo and rank 7 with my friends, I feel like my arsenal is lacking when it comes taking on specific enemy factions. For bots, I only have the liberator penetrator, and for bugs I just grabbed the cookout (which has been working very well so far). I’m not worried about the Illuminate since they’re not even on the map at this time, but suggestions for them would be great too. I’ve been rocking the senator because of its heavy armor penetration, and thermite grenades for a quick and easy anti-tank solution. I typically run with a Quasar and Laser Guard Dog, for obvious reasons. At this point, I just need a direction to focus in, and I was wondering if there’s a good weapon that can handle all three factions reliably, or if there are specific weapons I should be looking at for each faction. Armor suggestions would also be appreciated.
Take this all with a grain of salt as I'm going off subjective metrics from my own experience.
I'm a little biased because mine are at 25, but the Adjudicator and Reprimand are both great against all factions. Both are very manageable with a Vertical Foregrip and Compensator on the barrel. Cutting down on their vertical recoil is huge. Also I recommend semi-auto on the Reprimand, at least until you get the Vertical Foregrip.
Cookout and Breaker Incendiary are still top tier against bugs. Also consider the regular Breaker or Breaker Spray & Pray. Liberator Concussive is also surprisingly good against them.
The Slugger and JAR-5 Dominator are excellent against bots, both hit hard and cause stagger. Plasma Purifier and Scorcher are also good picks.
And if the squids ever show their ugly tentacles again, the Sickle is pretty good. Also the Tenderizer, which I did not expect.
That being said, the Eruptor is great against all factions but less so the bugs since they get right up in your cape a lot. Defender is a decent pick against all factions, but will feel outclassed by better options. The Deadeye is pretty great but if you're not accurate, it's not a good pick.
Hopefully that's enough of an array to get you started.
Thanks for the suggestions here, and I ended up going after the purifier after getting a chance to use it a few times. The versatility of have quick shots for single targets and being able to charge shots for groups was very appealing. Though I think I’ll go for the eruptor next, as a friend let me borrow theirs. It did great on the bot mission we ran, since a good chunk of them are heavily armored. I’ll have to see if I can test out the other weapons you mentioned and get a feel for them. Thanks again for the suggestions.
What is important is running a well rounded kit imo. Do you have the following tools at any given time?
Many of these can overlap but it is important to think about so you reduce weaknesses by over specializing. If you are running the Recoilless do you really need Thermite grenades? Probably only on bots for cheesing fabs. Think about what enemies are likely to spawn, are you concerned about having enough firepower to drop a stalker quickly or maybe you need something that can drop airships. The only downside to creating builds this way is some niche tools just generally never make the cut because they are outclassed by better options. Landmines should be the ultimate Area denial tool in theory but gas strikes have such a low cooldown and are less of a PvP hazard that they generally dont see use.
Borderline justice for a good marksman rifle in the deadeye, and just a very good sidearm in the Talon. Dynamite is a plus, if you can get used to a longer fuse. Servants of Freedom and Democratic detonation, particularly the latter, have some of the more versatile weapons. Steeled Veterans also ends in the JAR-5 dominator which is a really solid medium pen rifle.
WHen the illuminate come back: note that all of the basic enemies basically have no armor, just lots of HP, and even the fighters are medium armor.
i tend to run adjudicator decebt damage med armour pen and seems solid on all fronts
Best weapons in Helldivers 2
Key Considerations for Weapons in Helldivers 2
Weapon Types: Familiarize yourself with the different weapon categories, such as rifles, shotguns, and heavy weapons. Each type has its own strengths and weaknesses depending on the mission and enemy types.
Damage Output: Look for weapons that provide a good balance of damage per shot and rate of fire. High damage weapons are great for tougher enemies, while rapid-fire options can help with swarms.
Range and Accuracy: Consider the effective range and accuracy of the weapon. Some missions may require long-range engagements, while others may favor close-quarters combat.
Modifications and Upgrades: Check if the weapon can be customized with mods or upgrades. Enhancements like scopes, suppressors, or increased magazine size can significantly improve performance.
Team Synergy: Choose weapons that complement your team's loadout. For example, if someone is using a heavy weapon, you might want to opt for a more mobile weapon to balance the team.
