What Redditors are Saying

Best Webtoons to Read

Action Webtoons

For fans of action webtoons, "Eleceed" and "Ordeal" are highly recommended. "Eleceed" is praised for its engaging characters, humor, and impressive art, especially in the action scenes [1:1]. "Ordeal" stands out with its unique power system and exceptional artwork, earning recognition as a top fantasy/action series [1:2]. Other notable mentions include "Zombie x Slasher," "Viral Hit," and "Stellar Swordsman" [1:4].

Must-Read Webtoons

"Cursed Princess Club" is frequently mentioned as a must-read due to its universal appeal and captivating storyline [2:1][2:5]. "My Giant Nerd Boyfriend" and "Moon You" also come highly recommended for their relatable content and enjoyable narratives [2:2][2:4]. For those interested in completed stories, titles like "Bastard," "My Deepest Secret," and "Siren's Lament" offer compelling reads [2:3].

Top Picks for Beginners

If you're new to webtoons, "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint" is a popular choice for its intriguing plot and character development [3:3][3:7]. "Greatest Estate Developer" is noted for its humor and meaningful storyline [3:1]. Another entertaining read is "Love Advice from the Great Duke of Hell," which combines comedy with a completed narrative [3:4].

Webtoon Platforms

The official WEBTOONS website/app is a primary source for reading webtoons, offering popular series like "Eleceed," "Tower of God," and "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint" [4:1]. Other platforms such as Mangabat and http://readm.org provide alternative options for accessing different webcomics [4:3][4:5].

Additional Recommendations

For those looking for more variety, consider exploring "King of the Arena" for action-packed chapters [5:1], or "The Age of Arrogance" and "Reporting for Duty Duchess" for strong female leads [5:3]. "Hand Jumper" and "Sable Curse" are also suggested as enjoyable reads [5:6][5:7].

ORIGINAL POST

I don't read many action webtoons but I need to expand my horizons and read the best the genre has to offer. I've read the really mainstream ones like Solo Leveling, ORV, God of Highschool, ToG, etc. Recommend me your favourite action webtoons and convince me why I need to read them.

Ordeal: Its the series Webtoon chose as the representation for Most Epic Fantasy/Action and its more than earned it.

The story itself is great. Unique but not overly complicated power system, entertaining protagonists, no annoying harems or idiotic characters, a superhero government that actually knows what its doing, etc

But the art. The art is unmatched. Like these are some shots from one of the latest episodes of the new season and they aren't even in the top 20 best scenes in the season.

I like Eleceed. I like the characters,  their dynamic, the comedy, amd then some fun action as well.

Zombie x Slasher, Viral Hit, and Stellar Swordsman are the only action webtoons I’m keeping up with and I’ve started literally hundreds. I just can’t get into how repetitive action manhwas are so the fact that I’ve completed/still reading these is crazy.

Seconding Ordeal, and adding The Boxer. Just good storytelling.

Eleceed.

It is action and fantasy. It is the best webtoon I'm reading at the moment and I love, love, love it. The characters are amazing, they feel real and have quite good character growth. The webtoon is way too funny and entertaining - after most of the episodes I'm left laughing. Also, cats, lots of cats. The drawing is top notch - and, if read from the start, the artists growth is really visible (and the art was good from the start, now it is amazing). Continuing of the art - the action scenes are 10/10. I also love the fact, that now after around 350 episodes, the story has not become repetitive or boring.

It is my comfort webtoon and I have reread it multiple times.

Which webtoons should be considered a must read?

Posted by insonomel · in r/webtoons · 4 months ago

Exactly what the title says. Which webtoons you must have in your "webtoon reader resume"? Either because they're classics, because they're the precursors of a kind of trope or writing, because they're incredibly good (or incredibly bad lol), the ones you'd definitely introduce for a first time reader, or simply your favorite that you feel that people should know.

Even though the title says webtoons, it applies to webcomics in general. So titles from any platform counts (Webtoon, Tapas, Mangatoon, social medias, other platforms, etc). And also titles from any year or with any length. Think of this as a recommendation post of some sorts haha. Have fun and thanks in advance for your addition!

Source: Spirit Fingers! My all time favorite webtoon which I consider a must read because of the great developments, good messages for the readers, and great art.

Absolutely yes!!!!

I remember when I read it at first the artstyle didn’t hit but I gave it a shot. CPC is such a gem of a story!!!!

Theres very few webtoons now that fill the void that CPC left me. I hope the creator comes back with side stories, but I’m assuming LambCat is working on the physical book series of CPC.

You might enjoy The Age of Arrogance and Reporting for Duty Duchess. They both focus on strong female leads and aren't solely focused on romance.

Kubera (most underrated webtoon, love it soo much... I hope it becomes an anime)

Tower of God ( I consider it the best, and was hoping it becomes an anime, it actually did)

Omincient Reader ( fantastic, should be an anime, not a movie, an anime)

How to Become a dragon ( amazzzzzzzzzzing, full of emotions and such a good good story)

True Beauty ( It is soo good)

I love yoo ( so so good)

The beginning after the end (on Tapas) - Amazzzzzzing-- so so good- I love the ML so much and the story is amazing.

Yumi's Cell- Fantastic and check the K-drama, even more amazing, (too bad no season 3)

The devil is a handsome man ( too bad never finished, Author went MIO due to personal reasons)

Space Boy

Lore Olympus

Girl's of the wild ( kinda you'll always feel for the second character), so many tears, ( it is comepleted)

The fantasie of a stepmother ( Amazing, so many tears in some episodes, also on tapas)

I'll save this damned family ( on Manta- so good and witty and FL is smart and cunning, and ML is redhead, so win win lol)

Under the Oak tree (on Manta- so good and beautifully drawn)

The remarried empress. ( so good)

I was the final boss (seems so good)

Currently reading Lookism, I mean I liked it so much for the first 100 episodes, but I don't know what's going on now.. kinda stopped.

FYI, most of these webtoons, I never finished them because I wanna binge read them when they finish or more episodes are added ( only finished how to become a dragon and Girl of the wild)

I'll just add my top ten here:

Kubera - A brilliant series that's probably my favorite fantasy series in any media. It has excellent character writing. The plot is layered, consistent, and is full of twists and turns. The themes are meaningful and interesting. The worldbuilding is genius. The art is rough early on, but improves constantly, and by the present is on par with most top webtoons.

Tacit - This kinda took me off guard. From the beginning you'd expect some kinda sci-fi action type series, but it's really more of a character drama. The characters are all complex and interesting, the setting is well thought out, and the art is beautiful. It has a winter setting, and it adds to the atmosphere of the whole series.

Dr Frost - An interesting psychological drama that from my POV seems to be pretty accurate and treats the subject matter seriously. Kinda shifts into a bit of a mystery with higher stakes later on, but it works out pretty well, and has a solid ending.

Magical 12th Grader - An incredibly absurd yet moving series that is willing to take risks and make its characters flawed and human. This has a bunch of societal commentary as well.

UndeadEd - A fun comedic series that still has a lot of heart and touches on some important themes.

Garden Club Detective Squad - A fun Scooby Doo like mystery series with fun characters and a lively feel. It also has some nice character growth.

Hand Jumper - An incredibly thrilling super powered action series. The FMC is the highlight, as she manages to be badass while also being flawed. The other characters are also great. The worldbuilding is great. The action manages to be well thought out and strategic unlike most webtoon I've read.

Purple Hyacinth - A brilliant and thrilling mystery that pulls you in from the start. The characters are all fun and have depth to them, it has some great action sequences, the art is beautiful and is accompanied by a nice soundtrack, and there's some nice romance as well.

See you in my 19th life - The only pure romance on my list. The premise is a bit strange and off-putting, but the character interactions and chemistry are on point.

The Ember Knight - If you've read The Epic of Gilgamesh, you'll love this. If you haven't, you'll probably still like this. Has a great world, excellent fight scenes, an incredibly compelling and engaging underdog of an MC, and has a solid plot as well.

This list is subject to change, but these are the ones I consider to be the best available ones on Webtoon.

Best webtoons to read

Here are some key considerations for choosing webtoons:

  1. Genre Preferences: Identify your favorite genres (romance, fantasy, action, horror, etc.) to narrow down your options.

  2. Art Style: Different webtoons have unique art styles. Choose one that appeals to you visually.

  3. Story Length: Some webtoons have long, ongoing stories, while others are shorter. Decide if you prefer a quick read or a more in-depth narrative.

  4. Popularity and Ratings: Check ratings and reviews to find well-received series. Popular titles often have a larger fanbase and community discussions.

  5. Updates Frequency: Look for webtoons that update regularly if you enjoy following a story over time.

Top Recommendations:

  1. "Lore Olympus" - A modern retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth with stunning art and engaging storytelling.

  2. "Let's Play" - A romantic comedy about a game developer navigating her career and relationships, with relatable characters and humor.

  3. "I Love Yoo" - A slice-of-life romance that explores love and friendship, featuring strong character development.

  4. "True Beauty" - A coming-of-age story about a girl who masters the art of makeup to transform her life, tackling themes of beauty and self-acceptance.

  5. "Siren's Lament" - A fantasy romance involving sirens, love triangles, and beautiful artwork, perfect for fans of supernatural stories.

  6. "Age Matters" - A romantic comedy about an older woman and a younger CEO, filled with humor and heartwarming moments.

Recommendation: Start with "Lore Olympus" if you're new to webtoons; its popularity and engaging storytelling make it a great entry point. If you prefer romance with a twist, "Let's Play" is also highly recommended.
