Posting this because I couldn’t find a real-world example where the overall 10-year total was >548 days but still compliant. The closest is Example 2 in the GOV.UK guidance (useful, but that example isn’t >548 overall).

My timeline (anonymised)

• First arrived in Sep 2015
• Applied late Aug 2025 (within the 28-day window before 10 years)
• Visas: Student for 8 years → Skilled Worker from Jun 2023 and extended in Jun 2025 ( >12 months on current route at application, which is important)
• Knowledge of language and life in the UK: Life in the UK test passed Jul 2025; English via UK degrees
• Good character: no criminal record, full compliance

Absences (counted as whole days)

• Pre-11 Apr 2024: 520 days total, no single absence >184 days
• On/after 11 Apr 2024: 90 days total, no rolling 12-month period >180 days
• Overall 2015–2025: 610 days (>548)

Why >548 overall can still be fine

• Under the current transitional rules for Appendix Long Residence:
  • Only the period before 11 Apr 2024 is tested against ≤184 days per trip and ≤548 days total.
  • Days on/after 11 Apr 2024 are tested instead against ≤180 days in any rolling 12-month period.
• So the overall total can exceed 548, provided the pre-11 Apr subtotal is ≤548 with no trip >184 and the post-11 Apr portion meets the rolling 180-day rule (this is exactly the logic in Example 2 in the link above).
• I had no cross-over trips to worry about (i.e. trips that started before 11 Apr 2024, ended after 11 Apr 2024)

Counting method / evidence

• Counted whole days outside the UK (UK exit to UK re-entry).
• Where there’s no UK exit stamp, I used foreign entry stamps/itineraries to infer the date and explained this.
• The online form only allows 30 trips; I uploaded a supplementary table listing all 45 trips (31 pre-11 Apr 2024).

Married to a British citizen - checklist items (not my route)
I applied under Long Residence (not partner), but the portal still asked for relationship items as I am married to a British citizen. I uploaded them for completeness, labelled clearly so my main basis is LR:

• Marriage certificate; joint/individual post to the same address over 2 years (utilities, both UK driving licences, individual bank statements, joint account).
• Spouse’s British status: copy of UK passport and UK birth certificate.
• My status: eVisa PDF + current share-code screenshot.
• Passports: full scans of current and previous (all pages).
• All prior travel documents: Main passport pages, BRPs and visa vignettes in one PDF with a table of contents page.
• Knowledge of language and life (KoLL): Life in the UK pass email; UK MBBS certificate.
• Absences: A supplementary table as mentioned above.

Bottom line in my case

• Pre-11 Apr 2024 subtotal 520 ≤ 548, none >184 ✅
• Post-11 Apr 2024 total 90, rolling max <180 ✅
• On current route ≥12 months at application ✅
• KoLL & English met ✅ Based on the guidance, my absences are compliant even though the overall 10-year total is 610 (>548).

Also, went for super priority - biometrics on a Saturday; results by Monday afternoon!
