Essentials for Comfort and Safety
Packing for a summer music festival requires balancing comfort, safety, and practicality. Earplugs are highly recommended to protect your hearing; brands like Eargasm and Etymotic are popular choices [2:1]
[5:4]. A refillable water bottle is crucial for staying hydrated without incurring extra costs
[5:1]. Sunscreen is essential, especially at outdoor venues, though some places may restrict spray types
[5:2]. Comfortable shoes are a must, as you will likely be on your feet all day
[5:3].
Health and Hygiene Items
Bringing items for health and hygiene can make a big difference in your festival experience. Baby wipes or wet wipes are useful for quick clean-ups [2:1]
[3:8]. Pain relievers like Tylenol or ibuprofen can help manage aches and pains
[5:6]. Hand sanitizer is a staple for maintaining cleanliness
[2]. Additionally, packing deodorant and personal medication ensures you stay fresh and healthy throughout the event
[2:3]
[5:6].
Weather Preparedness
Being prepared for various weather conditions is important. Rain ponchos can save you from unexpected downpours [2], while a long sleeve shirt can keep you warm if temperatures drop at night
[2:1]. Some festivals can get dusty, so consider bringing a mask or gaiter to protect against dust inhalation
[3:7].
Tech and Convenience
A portable phone charger is invaluable for keeping your devices powered [2], and a small USB power bank can be handy
[3:5]. Consider bringing cash for purchases, as it helps stick to a budget and some vendors might not accept cards
[5:3]. For navigation and finding your campsite, solar-powered lights or lanterns can be helpful
[4:10].
Additional Tips
Some unique suggestions include using reusable sealable bags for organizing items [1:1], packing extra socks in case of rain
[2:1], and planning a meeting spot with friends due to poor cell reception
[2:1]. For those camping, ear plugs for sleep and eye shades can improve rest
[4:5]
[4:9].
Hey guys, I’ll be continually updating this, but this is my usual pack out for flying to a festival. It is tailored to carrying a 30L backpack, 25L carry on duffel, and roller bag.
Feel free to comment or make suggestions if you see anything missing :)
If you want to use it for a checklist, click the 3 dot menu > share and export > make a copy, then you can highlight the boxes etc.
Honestly having backup earplugs and dust masks are really good ideas. Also packing items in reusable sealable bags like freezer bags keeps them clean and also you have a water proof bag or dust clean bag to use if you need.
I bring pillowcases that at the end are dirty laundry bags

I know we have like 129 days( yes I am counting) so like 3 months away but as my First Riot fest I am Preparing a check list of items I need tell me what yall think
Feel free to add on
Too late in the year for bug spray to be a necessity in Chicago, at least in my opinion. Been doing Riot Fest for about 5 years and never had a bug ,mosquito) problem, even with the few ponds in the park nearby.
That's awesome to know being from New england bugs are gone by September and its freezing but mother lives in Missouri and she seems to have them till end of Sept so I wasn't to sure thanks for the info
That is awesome thank you glad to know that is not a worry
I feel that I speak for all attendees when I ask that you add deodorant to your list.
And if you're over 40 like me, then Tylenol is helpful as well.
I second a tiny deo for that b o and also the small sealed med packs of Tylenol...and a pack of anti-hershey squirts pills.
Yes should of been in my top 5
This is a good list. The long sleeve shirt is a good idea, there are days where it is gorgeous all day then gets cold at night. A locker is extremely important.
I would add:
Baby Wipes - Some times you need a quick shower.
A change of socks - This is in case it rains. You don't want to be walking around with wet feet all day.
Ear plugs - I am old and don't want ringing for three days. I recommend Eargasm brand.
A planned place to meet up with your group at the end of the night. The cell reception will suck.
Baby wipes good idea years and years of shows and never thought of that
You forgot drugs
Hahaha yes !!
And CM Punk.
So in my 20s I'd show up to a festival with just my ID. Now in my 40s I've developed into an over-packer. So tell me, is this exaggerated? Anything I absolutely won't need? Anything I didn't pack that I should? From left to right Wet ones wipes for hands and face. Collapsible water bottle, toilet wipes because I heard they run out of TP (?), paper soap, mini foldable paper thin blanket (never tried before so we'll see if it's good or not), cooling towel, scrunchie with a zipper pocket (figure I'll stuff electrolytes packets in it), fan, extra sunblock for reapplication, and phone tether just in case. Oh and I'll be bringing a small charging bank just in case 🤔
Looks like the same stuff I plan to bring. Plus my loop earplugs and some Tylenol or Advil. (Getting old sucks. )
Ooh gotta add the Tylenol, thanks!
Rockville is cashless but they fail to tell you that the first aid vending machine in the first aid tent takes quarters and they will not give anyone change. I always bring several dollars in quarters just in case
Wet ones, phone battery, a fan, a cloth or rag, electrolytes, sun screen, hand sanitizer, a sewing kit, and because you never know who needs it, some narcan
Narcan is an excellent choice. Good call.
I’ve never had to use it and never heard of anyone having to use it but I always give some away to campers like halfway through the festival
Thanks again for the narcan idea, as an early EMT student it’s awesome to see festival goers in the know on what to do during suspected overdose 🙏 *Also as a Rockville veteran, I’m always impressed by how quickly and efficiently the crowd works to help fellow fans
Earplugs. Emergency rain Poncho for those sudden downpours. Small flashlight. Water bottle. Small USB power bank & cable.
I’d add a mask or gator because it’s soo dusty there unless you want the cough or sinus infection from hell if it doesn’t rain
When do people wear it? The whole time? Or just in certain areas?
I went last year and noticed the pit was really dusty at certain stages. Walking around wasn't so bad though
Earplugs are a must for me, I use the Eargasm ones. I think I may leave the phone in the RV and dig out my old school point and shoot camera with wrist strap. There won’t be cell service anyway. I can print my schedule ahead if I really need it.
Chapstick. Add a poncho if the weather looks iffy . And we’ll have to carry the RV keys with us
Every time I do this, I end up forgetting something important, or just something stupid that I wish I'd packed. So Reddit, what are your must have items for camping at a music festival?
What are the things you never leave behind, the essentials you always bring, or even the little things that make a big difference?
Trying to be as prepared as possible, TIA
ear plugs for sleep!! Cannot sleep without them.
I also bring Tylenol PMs or Motrin PMs or something of that sort. Helps me get to sleep, even with a lingering bit of LSD still rummaging through my brain.
100%, plus eye shades.
We’ve got a colorful lantern we hang in one of the canopy’s and leave on all night for finding camp all spun out in the dark
That’s the one thing I ALWAYS forget but I’m always lucky enough to camp next to someone who’s got one
Solar powered xmas lights are good for this as well. And cheap on amazon.
Goldbond
I've found that you're never gonna be dry for too long with the powder. I've had good results with bag balm down there. Keeps everything medicated and lubed up so you don't chaffe.
The spray is nice
Headlamp.
Keep a list on your cloud drive & tweak accordingly for each festival
I got one of those clear bags and I have no clue what to bring besides my phone and wallet and an extra mask. I’d love to hear from people who already went to their festival dates!
A refillable water tumbler is allowed at most or all venues I think
Edit: and sunscreen. some venues don't allow spray so check their website
Tagging onto this, I think I read somewhere that they'll have refill stations so you shouldn't have to worry about dehydration
For me, I really regret not bringing cash. It helps you stick to a budget because I definitely overspent on merch! Sunscreen's also great if your venue is outdoors. If youre thinking about bringing a hat, do bring one but make sure you can pack it up neatly since at the merch booths in Anaheim, they had these pink light up cowboy hats and a yellow sunshine bucket hat which I got and I adore!! Don't remember the prices since I only brought my card. I also heavily recommend going in some comfortable shoes. Not sandals though if you care about your toenails. Short story time: i'm about 5'4" so I thought I wouldve had issues seeing the performance, so I got some old work boots with some risers. It gave me less than an extra 2 inches and boy it was NOT worth it. My feet were dying before ATL even got up to perform and I got close enough where I could see the stage just fine. A guy around 6'4" was even nice enough to give me a lift for my favorite track on the setlist! So yeah just don't repeat my very foolish mistake and you'll be good to go!
Ear plugs. Older you will be very thankful. I got some my dummer friend suggested. You can still hear everything just fine.
I second the earplugs, I’ve definitely done damage to my ears at shows, now it hurts my ears not to have earplugs in.
I use Eargasms Eargasm earplugs
Do you have any recommendations? I’m going on September 3rd and hope whatever I can find will ship by then.
Etymotic High Fidelity Earplugs,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015IQ6HI4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This is what I have
As a warped tour vet I can give you some ideas:
Take an empty plastic reusable water bottle! You won’t have to pay for water and you can keep yourself hydrated by refilling at a water station or in the bathroom.
If you have one, take one of those large portable batteries so you can recharge your phone on the go. The larger the power bank, the more charges you can get out of it.
ibuprofen/Tylenol & a couple bandaids. Also make sure you take any other medication you need.
That’s pretty much what you would need at most.
DO wear comfortable, broken in shoes.
DONT try to take a dslr or video camera and hope you’re gonna smuggle it in. I’ve seen so many people turned away and have to go back to their cars because they have video cameras and they’re not allowed and dslr are considered professional cameras and aren’t allowed in most venues.
DO take cash. Cash is (still) king. Most venues and merch places will have square readers and such but if they’re on venue WiFi or cell service, it’s going to be slow. When you roll up with cash, your transactions are smooth and quick and you can be done faster than using a credit card.
DO make sure you take some time to eat, sit down if you can, and rest. Even when you don’t think you need it. If you’re there all day and it’s hot, resting and keeping yourself hydrated is the most important thing, making sure you’re lasting till the headliners are important.
Bless you. I have bad feet so you’d never catch me wearing anything besides comfortable sneakers. Also I’m counting on some sort of pain that day so I already have a bag with advil in it.
I have bad knees. Well. One bad knee. I’m in my 30s and already showing signs of cartilage deterioration so almost always ibuprofen and Tylenol are packed in my bags when I go anywhere. But also Prilosec for heartburn. 😂
The Sad Summer Fest in Baltimore on the 28th is now requiring proof of vaccination or a negative test result: https://livemu.sc/3gmduUM
MECU Pavilion posted it on their FB page if you’re wary of the link above
I vaguely remember them being $30. Not 100% sure since my eyes were on the cute bucket hat but I'm confident they wouldn't be anywhere over $35
We’re getting closer and closer to the first day so I figured it would be cool to share what everyone’s bringing with them to the festival, be it necessities that everyone should have or just something you think elevates your experience. Could be helpful for first timers who are unsure of what to pack as well!
My list is mainly just sunscreen and a portable charger lol. Would love any suggestions on what else to bring!
this is my list!
Water bottle, Phone, Phone charger, Earbuds, Loop ear earbuds, Rain poncho, Snacks, Medium empty plastic bag, Camera, Sunglasses, Advil, Kleenex, small ziploc with toilet paper, Lip sunscreen, Sunscreen, Hand sanitizer
I keep looking at the loop earplugs. Would you say they’re worth the investment?
i really like them, especially if you are going to be standing for 8+ hours listening to sets you aren't there to hear. i have the loop experience ones, but i do tend to find everything loud, i think being on the subway without headphones is too loud so it might just be a me thing
Ear plugs, a neck fan, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, snacks, a big water bottle, and a waterproof poncho in case it rains! Portable charger is def needed if you plan on using your phone through out the day!
Instead of a big water bottle, a collapsible water bottle is better! I used it last year when I wasn’t drinking and I was able to hang it around my fanny pack :)
I took my camelbak the last few years. Drank so much water that I never got hung over
Also a drink Koozie is a great addition for your kit, helps keep the drink cold in the hot hot heat.
Hi, I saw you recommended neck fans. I just wanted to make sure that they are allowed?
Fanny pack (to have your stuff in front of you at all times), sunglasses with a chain, protein bar, electrolyte packs, Carpe face wipes, sunscreen and SPF lip protection, hand sanitizer, toilet paper in a ziplock, small fan, poncho, collapsible water bottle, phone charger, Loop earbuds.
Don't think anyone's mentioned it, XD , but a portable charger is crucial. And any you can buy on site will be useless.
Also, a waterproof towel/blanket to lay on the hills with. Standing all day sucks and you will want to chill periodically.
This may be a hot take but I have never had an issue with my phone dying. I may sound like a boomer but I’m only ever using my phone to take a couple photos per set and then occasionally to message/call friends incase we get separated. Apart from that I’m just enjoying the music so not using a phone at all. Roast me in the comments if I’m out to lunch tho lol
A roll of toilet paper and a handheld fan are my essentials lol
This will be our first time at a festival (it’ll be my husband myself and our 13 year old daughter) this is her 13th birthday present. Mainly to see Bring Me the Horizon but we’ve counted 29 bands that we would love to even catch a glimpse of! We are incredibly excited. I however am being a mom and want to be as prepared as possible to make our lives easier and more enjoyable if possible. What are some tips/tricks/items that saved your life? Any words of wisdom to share? Good websites for men’s clothing? I’m already looking into what the venue allows for carry ins and things I can put in a backpack (like blister pads for feet, hand sanitizer, liquid iv etc). We 3 are all fairly accustomed to traditional concert etiquette but any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all!
We started like this when our daughter was 13 also. She’s 19 now and around 300shows deep. Water water water. Protect your cell phone. People like to steal phones. Always have a meeting place every morning when you go in. When we lose each other we meet at that spot after that performance. It happens often. Our daughter likes to crowd surf. On the next band. Make sure you eat before it’s too late.
Love to hear other parents say they did this when their kid was her age. Makes me feel so much better as an alternative mom! I am planning on getting phone cases with wrist attachments or maybe lanyards to keep our phones protected and a bit safer? We are all too introverted to go much into the crowds, doesn’t help when we finally got started going to concerts I was and have been pregnant since then up until now so we stayed far away from pits and don’t really know how to react being near or in them.
Are you from the area? If not I’d highly recommend you start taking allergy meds like a week before just to prime you. Not something everyone thinks of but it’s a lifesaver with all the dust, dirt, and pollen in the air during fest. Prepare for all 4 seasons in a day. Lockers are the best thing ever cause you can put away heavy stuff, charge your phone, and most importantly they are a great meet up spot if you get separated. The cell service inside is crap so set times throughout the day and agree if separate at that time go to the locker to meet up. There’s so many bands going you almost always split up for a while then with crowd migration it can be tough to get back together. Bring a clear empty water bottle and keep refilling it the stations get full between bands but just go at odd times and it’s never really an issue. Have fun!
Thank you! We are from Wisconsin so not massively different but we will be definitely doing allergy meds! Locker meet up is a great idea! Thank you so much!
No problem my poor husband goes with a gaggle of ladies every year and his only complaint is trying to wrangle us all up at once lol. Lockers are the best solution.
What shoes would you suggest based on your experience last year?
You really can’t judge from last year because it was too abnormal. I’ve been to LTL four or five time (I’ve lost count) and it’s never rained that bad. From my experience toiletry wipes, sunscreen, a bottle for water, and some type of anti theft cord for your phones. MANY! people had their phones pickpocketed while the headliners played.
But if it’s calling for rain definitely bring a poncho, rain boots or something like that. My buddy even washed his clothes with a rain repellent and that worked great.
I wore combat boots that were pleather and that I didn’t care deeply about so they could be hosed. I would also suggest taking in an extra shirt because if you’re soaking you will want to use it.
rainboots is the only answer! last year it was so muddy and everyone in my group was miserable but my feet were completely dry. $170 well spent
We had that happen at a concert one year, bought Vessi’s ever since, pricey but waterproof, comfortable and they basically stand up to anything.
Liquid IV, we pregame, and usually have a packet or 2 in reserve, they saved our asses at SNW. We found some collapsing water bottles that way they don’t take up A bunch of room between fill ups. Stay hydrated even if your don’t feel like you need it. Get some sunscreen sticks, they’re pretty small and can fit in your pocket so you can keep hitting your arms, face and neck throughout the day. Wear hats, we also have a couple handheld fans that connect to your belt and you can stick your shirt on the outside, also a lifesaver.
We get lockers throw a couple disposable ponchos in it, and any merch we get, holding onto it all day sucks, they have a winter deal on lockers right now, usually $20 a day, the deal is 4 days for $65. The ones at LTL have chargers for phones in them too.
Essentials I should bring to be prepared. What are some certain lot hustles some others have found successful? Personal living tips while on the road. Any advice n suggestions are highly appreciated. Much love fam 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
What part of the world? How are you hopping? Van life? What festivals and genres?
Van life, camping and festivals around the US from Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, down the eastern coast to Georgia, New Orleans and Florida. I’ll be following festivals all summer (EDM, EDC, Some Grateful n other jams. Just getting out of the robot society for a while.
If you're gonna be in Minnesota, check Shangri La. Best medium size fest I've ever been to. Nothing but smiling faces.
Ayyy nice, coming to hulaween?
One year at Bonnaroo there was a girl walking around in the morning with a 5 gal bucket filled with bloody Mary’s and a stack of cups, $5 each. She made a killing and let me tell you an 8 am Bloody Mary when you’re waking up in the heat really hit the spot
Water, med kit, narcan, wet wipes, and depending on the hustle, a safe bolted in your trunk.
Noted
Cooking and selling grilled cheese sandwiches is always a winner.
Already been thinkin bout slangin dem breffest sammies at a certain hour, sodas, red bulls, Koolaid (jus to keep it trill from the south) and water during the day
The last festival I went to my friend had everything already so I just had to grab a few little things like snacks and hygiene products so now I’m worried I’m going to be missing a lot of important stuff obviously I have a few things I have to buy like basic hygiene stuff and new socks and stuff but I can’t think of anything else I need 😭
You have forgotten your drugs...
... deffo dont wanna forget those.
I thought this was just a list of drugs with new street names.
Paracetamol and anti-diarrhoea tablets. Absolutely do not go without.
Cannot go to a festival without Imodium.
How some people happily shit their guts out in the portaloos beats me.
Wheres your cocaine?
In the ass safely stored of course
Ahh yes good thinking batman
Ear plugs to help sleep, Sudocrem for cuts, burns etc. and painkillers.
Bin bags! Big black fuckers.
Useful for a whole multitude of things!
I like my bin bags how I like my men
Full of beer!
I always use multiple bin bags every festival. Muddy shoes , rubbish , a tent liner anything
This started as a packing list and some tips to give to some first timer friends I'm bringing this time around and I just kept having so much fun adding to it that I decided to expand it into a general Coachella guide (primarily focused on car camping).
Since the lineup is about to drop and the amount of basic questions we've been getting here has really started to ramp up I thought now would be a good time to put it out there and maybe help some people out. I realize that the people who don't bother to read the Coachella website probably also won't read some randos google doc but does the Coachella website give you bathroom strats? Didn't think so!
Please let me know what you think or if you feel I've made any glaring mistakes/omissions.
Sticky this shit and we won’t need my Questions thread as we approach the fest.
Spot on. Thanks for reminding me about stuff I already forgot about. Coachella flu is no joke. Caught it after landing and it stuck for 2 weeks. Miserable af.
This is amazing, first timer going for W2 and this answers so many questions. Thank you!!
SAVED So fast. Thank you!
Thanks for making this! I went to my first Coachella this past year (tent camping), but I learned a few things to consider for next year, like getting a locker and bringing a rubber mallet for the tent stakes.
