General Tips for Boss Fights
Cuphead is known for its challenging boss battles, and having the right strategy can make a significant difference. One of the most important aspects is choosing the right loadout. Many players recommend using the Roundabout weapon and Smoke Bomb charm as a versatile setup that can handle various bosses [5:3]
[5:4]. It's also crucial to learn each boss's patterns and practice dodging their attacks with small, precise movements
[2:3].
Specific Boss Strategies
For the Devil boss, a recommended loadout includes Roundabout as the primary weapon and Spread as the secondary, with Smoke Dash for the charm [4:1]. The fight becomes easier once you learn the patterns, especially the timing for dodging axes and parrying bombs
[4:2]. Using Super Art 1 strategically in the third phase can help avoid damage or eliminate henchmen quickly
[4:1].
Expert Mode and S Rank Tips
Achieving an S rank requires mastering Expert mode. Focus on evading attacks first and worry about hitting the boss later [2:3]. Utilize charms like Coffee to gain extra EX attack opportunities
[2:2], and don't forget abilities like shrinking during plane levels
[2:4]. For those aiming for S ranks, it's essential to stay committed and patient
[1:2].
Secret Boss and Achievements
To fight the Secret Boss again, stand in front of the middle tombstone and hold L+R (or LT+RT) [3:3]. This method allows players to retry the fight without replaying the entire game
[3:2]. Some achievements may be buggy, so this trick can be useful if you missed out on them initially
[3:2].
Additional Advice
Experiment with different weapons and charms for each boss until you find what works best for your playstyle [5:1]. Using an Xbox controller can enhance gameplay experience
[5:8], and maintaining a positive mindset is crucial when facing difficult challenges
[5:8]. Keep practicing, and focus on one boss at a time to gradually improve your skills
[5:2].
As most of you probably know by now, the Cuphead DLC is coming out at the end of the month. So to celebrate, I decided I’m going to be posting tips for each boss in the main game.
These tips will be based on my experiences on achieving the S rank for all bosses, including advice on what weapon setup to take and how to evade all the different attacks. I will be posting tips for one boss a day, every day, until the release of the DLC.
I’ll be listing the bosses in order, starting with The Root Pack. I’ll be posting every day, so stay tuned if there’s a boss you’re still working on and you need tips!
Can I have some Expert Mode Tips
All of my tips will be based on Expert mode and my personal strategies for achieving every S rank. I’ll be posting each boss in order, so keep an eye out for whichever bosses you need help with!
Well I gonna try S Rank but I lose my sanity
I didn't watch it all, sorry... but I would go with Coffee for the charm instead of the extra heart. My very first thought, is commit a little more. At start, lure the beam up but line up and sit still. With coffee you can even ex attack before you have to move. Leave the middle for last so you can spam extra special/ex by parrying the middle object. I usually bomb the heart, others would disagree but in the second phase you really just have to use the small plane frequently to keep avoiding the bombs and lining yourself up. If you have coffee, you'll have a full super again by phase 3. Phase 3... watch the spiral pattern, parry when you can, use small plane as necessary and careful not to fade back to the left edge too much or the walls will get you. Ult any chance you get! Good luck!
You did well up until bullet swarm.
Then I noticed you did really sweeping movements. Learn to make tiny movements. Dodging bullets can be the tap of the joystick. That way you get out of the way but don't go flying into another bullet. Relax your vision and move in small steps. Takes a while to get used to, but eventually you will be able to dodge most the bullets.
Then only when you get good at dodging, start worrying about hitting the boss. I actually never even try to hit the boss. I just dodge and shoot without aiming.
Don’t forget to use your shrink ability.
1st phase Top, bottom, then middle
Thanks to everyone I finally defeated him! feel free to use this tips for yourself!
So I don’t think this is well known yet so yeah. The fight can be triggered again by standing in front of the middle tombstone and holding L+R (or LT+RT) for a bit, reactivating the tombstone. Currently it does not seems to work with keyboard control.
This is great because the achievements in this game are buggy. I beat the boss and didn’t get the achievement. I thought I’d have to play the whole game again.
I also killed a boss using Ms Chalice super and that didn’t give me the achievement. Plus it’s not tracking boss kills with her.
It took killing several bosses for me with the divine relic for paladin to pop, and many others seem buggy at the moment.
Lol I can't even beat that dumb dragon and a few islands 3 bosses so i have never fought king dice or the devil. I can't beat the game because I stink but at least I got the divine relic
Can confirm this works, I thought it was weird that there was a boss you couldn't rematch.
I assume the keyboard controls for doing this were either broken or they forgot to implement them, hopefully that will get patched in later.
It does work, trying to find a keyboard equivalent right now.
You Need Cursed Relic Then Talk To The Racers I Think From 1st To 3rd So For Example The First Guy Says "That Race Was Down Right Crazy!" So Now The First Grave You Press I Bottom Right
Oh Ik. I was talking about the way you’re able to fight them again lol
I Think You Do The Gravestone Puzzle Again
Yep, it's really working!
Thank you i was wondering
Hey lads! So i’ve been grinding Cuphead for the first time, i’m finally on the boss for the devil and I have a few questions.
Whats the best loadout for this boss (shots, charm, super etc)?
What would you guys rate the difficulty of this boss compared to others?
What are just some general tips you guys have for actually beating this guy (i’m also playing through the game 100% legit so i’m not interested in any glitch methods)?
After getting past the first part of the fight it gets easier. The axe is easier to dodge by timing jumps, and the parry bombs you just gotta wait for the ear to show. On the next part i used spread and just crouch most of the time until the tile fell. But just spammed ex and shot up the whole time. Last phase is just jumping and parrying whenever you jump off the patform until he dies. He doesnt have heaps of health on that phase
Roundabout primary, spread secondary. Smoke dash for charm, super art 1 to kill purple henchmen in the third phase or super art 1 to avoid damage in the third phase. Use supers only in third phase, use a few EX attacks before it. He’s pretty hard.
Here’s a full YouTube video of mine that shows what to do through the whole fight. Hope this is helpful!
you made it look like a cake walk
It is when you learn the patterns. You’ll get there!
So I was playing CUPHEAD in mobile and I was in isle 2 And bruh every boss in there is very hard. So I just want some tips
Are you changing your weapons for each boss? My advice is to fight one boss at a time, get good at that and then keep going. Gotta keep practicing.
Ok
Been playing for awhile.
Early, my advice is to get Smokebomb (invincible dash) and the Roundabout weapon first.
Spend your first 4 coins on Roundabout. Do the first Run-n-Gun and then buy Smokebomb.
Those 2 items should be able to carry you through Isle 1 and quite a few other bosses.
Coffee is a good item for plane levels to be able to spam ex attack more frequently.
Have fun!
Roundabout and smokebomb is good advice. I've beaten the game with 0 deaths (not including the DLC) on expert using pretty much only roundabout.
Cuphead was brutal for me until I started paying attention to the upgrade path and what weapons I was choosing. The right loadouts will make the toughest boss far more manageable.
Which layout is best for von bon bon?
I used chaser and spread for that one (spread just in case the gum ball machine comes out. Chaser is good for the rest of it)
What is cuphead in mobile?
Use an xbox controller. And a good mindset
🤔
After defeating the angel/demon boss in the dlc and getting the cursed charm I found that just trying to beat bosses with it made me (somewhat) good at the game because. Only having one heart made me good at dodging, gaining hearts by parrying made me good at parrying, and changing weapons every time I stoped shooting helped me learn what weapons are good for what situations, this may not work for everyone but it does work for me 😊
I really love the relic since as it teaches you to adapt, which toe is the core part of cuphead
look up s rank tutorials, i know you’re not going to do s rank, but s rank still does need to be on expert mode, watch s rank tutorials so you get used to their new upgraded attacks and listen to their tips
hope this helps
Do i need to get S ranks to get that achievement?
nah, you just have to beat every stage on expert the grade doesn’t matter
Nope
Mix up your load out snd learn what good is good for what
Not really any advice other than be good at the game. Know every boss' phases and attack patterns
Update: I finally beat him after like 2.5 hours (all together) for the winning round I used Twin Hearts, Charge and Roundabout w super art 2.🥳🥳
Im doing my first play through of Cuphead and while some bosses have been challenging ive been able to overcome them without to much trouble. But once I got to inkwell Hell everything changes…….KING DICE I HATE YOU, IVE SPENT 1.5 Hours DYING OVER AND OVER. I’ve tried different weapons, smoke bomb charm and twin hearts. NOTHING WORKS. And yeah ik it’s probably just a skill issue 💔💔Can anyone give me the ideal loadout to beat him or any tips/tricks. Before I throw my controller (again) 💔
I dread for when the time comes I’ll have to face him.
By now, I’ve beat him 4 times already. He’s actually pretty fun. For some reason though, I struggle with rolling the dice. Like, I try to roll a 2, and end up with 3. Like I’d literally make it to the end, I’ll say “don’t roll a 2, don’t roll a 2! Roll a 3-“ ends up rolling a 2 and now I have to start over.
The loadout I use is charge shot and the triple lighting shot from the DLC shop along with super one and smoke bomb. King dice is a marathon not a race so don’t be scared to burn your cards, you will make them back. A lil tip with parrying the dice is that if you spam parry right as he claps the number will always be a one so just focus on fighting as few bosses as possible while also stock piling the health spots
Alright thanks 🙏🏽, Ill go back and try again after work lol. Hopefully keeping my sanity this time….
King it's just a scream of soul (ironic isn't it?) i have beaten you on S rank today, on GEO difficulty and it was quite easy! So they're just haters don't lose the mood! (Yeye I'm surprised myself that i support you but uh... Yeah)
If you’re really struggling, try this advice.
use P.sugar as it’s easier to hit the dice on the number you want and dodge the cards at the end which is objectively the worst part.
easiest route imo is bosses 1, 4, 8. Retry if a bonus heart doesn’t land on two of them.
double parry each card to give you more time to jump to the next one. I don’t use smoke bomb for him because you need to see yourself the whole time to time it properly and the auto parry makes it way easier.
Good luck!
I disagree wirh psguar you can kinda spam a for the parry on the dice. You just have time find the right timing anyway. But as I said in my other comment it is mostly preference
I'm Mr. King Dice, I'm the gamest in the land
I never play nice, I'm the Devil's right-hand man
I can't let you pass, 'cause you ain't done everything
Bring me those contracts, come on, bring 'em to the King
If you haven't finished your task, haven't worked assiduously
No, I cannot let you pass, don't you mess with me
Don't mess with King Dice (don't mess with King Dice)
Don't mess with me (don't mess with him)
Don't mess with King Dice (don't mess with King Dice)
Don't mess with me
I'm Mr. King Dice, heed just what I say
The Devil has his price, and I'll make sure you pay
I don't have time to mess 'round, and I hope you will agree
Bring me those contracts, pronto! Don't you mess with me
Don't mess with King Dice (don't mess with King Dice)
Don't mess with me (don't mess with him)
Don't mess with King Dice (don't mess with King Dice)
Don't mess with me
This Is the Song of king dice on the Cuphead show??!!😭😭😭🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
That's my song
KING DICE, IM YOUR BIGGEST FAN!
Why make me suffer 😞
This is coming from the perspective of someone who beat the game S-rank like a shit ton of times, 3 of which being special runs (divine relic only, miss chalice only, and peashooter only).
The needs more parries category is that the bosses aren't very fun to S-rank because you might kill them before you can parry 3 times. You need to delay the phases in order to get the opportunity to even parry 3 times which is just not very fun and kinda infuriating.
I agree, except for beppi and mortimer freeze. I think beppi has enough parries, the nose of the kart, the horseshoes and the balloon dogs. Mortimer freeze is not as bad for me as everyone says. Sure, the first phase can go by without a single parry, but the pink popsicles and pink buckets in the second and final phase respectively will almost always appear for me. I agree for the rest though
Hmm, I do kinda agree with Beppi now that I think about it, but only with Cuphead. Sometimes I would try to delay killing him just so that he does the hooves attack with the parry in the third phase, or comes out with the pink duck in the first phase, but you can reasonably get all 3 parries with Cuphead just from the nose of the cart. However, with Ms Chalice, I most of the time just ended up getting hit or entirely missing while trying to parry the nose, so I had to rely on the rest and delay his death to get him (while also being generally harder to parry because of Ms Chalice's mechanics).
For Mortimer however I don't agree with you. He just dies way too fast. In the first phase sometimes he won't choose a pink tarot card. In the second phase, I end up with only pink popsicle most of the time if I actually try to kill him, and in the third phase sometimes he dies before he even does the cup throwing attack. Like I don't know if he needs more parries or if he needs more hp lmfao.
I am not the biggest fan of most plane bosses to S rank. They're mostly "spam the entire screen with projectiles".
I would switch Grim and Beppi, the dogs alone are enough for three parries. Saltbakers is pretty fun, but I dislike his third phase a lot. It might be a Switch thing, but I cannot move while dropping down (even when I jump spam it doesn't react) and will almost always lose one health.
Omfg i forgot about Grimm. Yeah he def needs to go in needs more parries.
Though I do understand what you mean, I really like plane bosses, especially Esther and Doctor Khal.
I really like chef saltbaker but maybe it's my Stockholm syndrome talking from the 10+ hours of attempts on him in the peashooter only run lmao.
What are you talking about for Beppi. The Rollercoaster’s nose is an incredible parry source
It's mostly about Chalice. Trying to parry it just ends up with me getting hit most of the time because of its hit box.
Though yeah I should have made a different list for both lol.
am starting cuphead and want some tips i already beat the garden boss fight and the forrest boss fight and the first run and gun level. and i do have one question is it normel to die like 40 times on both boss fights (not combined)?
please take this advice: the best advice i can give is to relax but focus. this is very important. if you are stuck on a level, never restart the level. just play until you die. look things up before buying them to see if they're worth it.
Change the shoot button to a trigger. Makes it infinitely easier to shoot while jumping and dashing.
Buy the roundabout weapon, for your 2nd weapon spread or crackshot are good.
For your charm buy smoke bomb.
If you want to cheese the game, flow over to the dlc isle and grab the cookie. Ms Chalice is the best charm in the game (there are 5 coins on the dlc isle that you can pick up from the get go). If you wanna play the game as intended or prefer Cuphead, stick to him.
Finish mausoleum 1 to unlock your super. Super art 1 is the best super in my opinion, if you collect 5 EX cards you can use them for a big attack sideways, this is much safer and quicker than using 5 individual EX shots.
Don't rage. Every death helps you learn an individual phase, meaning it's more of a WHEN you will beat a boss rather than if.
If you need anything else ask freely
thanks still have 1 question whats the difference between simple and normal mode?
don't bother doing simple, bosses on simple usually have 1 phase cut off and the attacks are moving very slowly, the only way to unlock soul contracts is through regular
you 'could' play every boss on simple first and then regular to get a decent grasp on them, if you have the time to spare go ahead
Simple is for beginners getting used to the gane
If you're playing on PC make sure you use a controller not the keyboard. It makes it way easier
i couldn't agree more.
Yes you will die a lot. Esp as you word hard to get through a phase or two and then the next phase will just mess you up
cuphead boss strategies
Key Considerations for Cuphead Boss Strategies
Learn Attack Patterns: Each boss has unique attack patterns. Spend time observing their movements and attacks to anticipate and dodge effectively.
Use the Right Weapons: Different bosses may be weak to specific weapons. Experiment with your loadout to find the most effective combinations (e.g., Spread for close-range, Charge for high damage).
Super Arts: Utilize Super Arts strategically. Save them for critical moments, like when the boss is vulnerable or during a particularly challenging phase.
Parrying: Look for pink objects to parry. This not only gives you a boost of invincibility but also builds your Super meter faster.
Co-op Play: If possible, play in co-op mode. Having a partner can make dodging attacks easier and allows for more aggressive strategies.
Practice Makes Perfect: Don’t be discouraged by repeated failures. Each attempt helps you learn the boss's patterns and improve your timing.
Specific Boss Strategies:
The Root Pack: Focus on dodging the potato's projectiles and use the Spread shot for close encounters. Parry the pink worms for extra Super meter.
Goopy Le Grande: Stay mobile and use the Charge shot when he’s vulnerable. Watch for his bouncing attacks and jump over them.
Cagney Carnation: Keep moving to avoid his seeds and use the Spread shot when he opens up. Parry the pink flowers for extra boosts.
Hilda Berg: Stay on the move and watch for her attacks. Use the Charge shot when she’s in her plane form and be ready to dodge her homing missiles.
Recommendation: Focus on mastering one boss at a time. Use practice runs to familiarize yourself with their patterns before attempting a full run. This will help you build confidence and improve your skills effectively.
