Multiple Entrances and Exploration
Hogwarts Legacy offers a rich environment with many entrances to explore, beyond the three marked on the map. Players have discovered various ways to enter both the interior and exterior of the castle, enhancing the exploration experience [1]. While some players express a desire for more secret entrances, the current design still provides a sense of discovery
[1:3].
Immersive Experience
The game is praised for its immersive recreation of Hogwarts, making it visually stunning and enjoyable to explore [2]. The design captures the essence of the Harry Potter universe, allowing players to experience iconic locations like common rooms, kitchens, and Hogsmeade
[5]. However, some players feel that while the setting is beautifully crafted, it lacks interactive elements that make them feel truly part of the world
[3:2].
Gameplay and Interactivity
While the game succeeds in providing a virtual tour of Hogwarts, some players find the gameplay lacking in interactivity. The absence of meaningful activities within the castle, such as attending classes or engaging in house rivalries, is noted [5:1]. Players suggest that incorporating quests that encourage exploration and interaction could enhance the overall experience
[5:7].
Collectibles and Side Quests
The game includes numerous collectibles and side quests, which are designed to encourage exploration. However, some players find these tasks repetitive and lacking in meaningful rewards [5:11]. Suggestions include reducing the number of repetitive tasks like Merlin Trials and focusing more on story-driven side quests
[5:8].
Potential for Improvement
There is a consensus among players that while Hogwarts Legacy is a strong foundation, there is room for improvement. Enhancements such as more interactive elements, a better balance between exploration and narrative content, and a deeper integration of house dynamics could significantly elevate the experience [3:3]
[5:11]. A sequel could address these areas, building on the strengths of the first game while expanding its depth and interactivity
[3:9].
If you've played Hogwarts Legacy, you will probably realize that (despite the map only indicating three entrance/exit points to the castle) there are actually MANY entrances.
I figured I'd outline/analyze all the ones I found on my first playthrough. I'll tell you which ways are the fastest (other than floo powder, of course) to get to which places. Please let me know if you have discovered any more!!
This entrance is marked on the in-game map. You can travel through the clock tower to reach it.
I'm pretty sure that this is the fastest way to get to the Gryffindor common room.
This entrance is marked on the in-game map. This is one of the fastest ways to get to the greenhouses.
This entrance is marked on the in-game map. Use this entrance if you're heading to charms class, the astronomy tower, or defense against dark arts class.
As far as I'm aware, if you're arriving at the castle from a journey and you want to enter through this entrance, then you'll need to own a flying mount. You can still reach this entrance by entering the castle from a different point, then exiting here.
I have not played as a Ravenclaw (I am Slytherin) but this seems like the fastest way to the Ravenclaw common room.
This is the same situation as the North Quad Hall entrance, so you'll need a flying mount if you want to seamlessly approach it from the outside of the castle.
Pretty sure this is the fastest route to the Hufflepuff common room.
If you're approaching the castle, then there are three ways to reach this entrance:
This is another one of the fastest ways to reach the greenhouses. The ways of reaching this entrance are the exact same as the Entrance Hall.
This one is directly above the Gryffindor Lower Hallway Entrance. Instead of going through the clock tower, climb up the stairs until you reach the top, then head down the suspended hall that leads to the hospital wing.
Fun fact: this is one of two entrances that I know do NOT interrupt you with a loading screen. The other being the Headmaster's Office Entrance.
>!Headmaster's Office Entrance!<
>!Just like the Hospital Wing Entrance, you can seamlessly enter the castle via this door. However, you won't be able to use this entrance until very late in your playthrough.!<
>!I actually entered the office from the inside wayyyy too early on in my playthrough, and I'm kind of mad at the game for letting me because apparently my character wasn't supposed to know the password (but didn't know that at the time).!<
>!Honeydukes Secret Passage!<
>!This is not really practical after the side quest that involves it, but it's neat. It does take you straight to the Grand Staircase, so you might enjoy using it to travel from Hogsmeade to Hogwarts once in a while.!<
>!Hidden Herbology Corridor!<
>!This does take you directly into the greenhouses, but I don't really like using it. The Viaduct Entrance and Bell Tower Entrance are much faster methods.!<
Edit: I'll put any additional entrances pointed out in the comments below!!
This is so cool! I just looked up a video of it, thank you u/joran26 for pointing this out.
Update 2: there may be a way to enter the charms classroom from the roof, but I spend a decent five minutes trying to do it about a week ago. I just saw a comment on another post saying it's possible, so I'll try again later.
Update 3: seems like the charms classroom entrance is impossible. I have tried many different ways of landing there, and none of them work.
Yeah it only works if you're a ravenclaw and only on the very tip of the roof over the common room, but it does work
Come on, if youre if a HP fan you're probably disappointed their aren't MORE secret entrances to Hogwarts......
Not really? Honestly I'm not even sure that I found them all. After 20 minutes of googling, I can't really find other posts like this.
Do you not consider the grounds of Hogwarts to be part of the Castle?
I think OP means ways to enter the the castle itself and being inside of it rather then entering the land that it’s built on.
I do, but I should have specified that I'm talking about the interior as well as outside areas that aren't separated from the interior by loading screens.
Ravenclaw common room has a landing pad!
found this today, i’m obsessed
OP you can’t enter the charms classroom from the roof that’s a no takeoff/landing zone just like if you were inside the castle. I’ve tried it a few times.
Thanks!!! I forgot to update the post but yeah I tried it again for like an hour last night from different points and I realized it's just not possible.
It used to be possible, back when the game first came out, but for some reason they made it impossible.

It's a well known game so no new revelations. Good time especially if you're a fan of the books or movies. Great job designing the wand combat and integrating herbology. Broom flying is nice af I end up skipping fast travel just to do that.
Hogwarts is well designed and is fun to explore. There are a ton of collectibles to find but subjectively they were easy for me as I spent most of my playtime exploring the world.
Story is a bit meh and the actor face capture is not the best. There are also some trophies which you need to track manually like the one that needs you to hit every type of enemy with the ultimate and one for collectible chests.
Tip: if you're a pottermore/wizarding world user you can connect accounts to migrate your house and wand.
Congratulations on the plat! 😁 This may be the first Harry Potter game I’ll get.
Thanks. It's a blast highly recommended.
This game has 46 trophies: 28 bronze, 15 silver, 2 gold, and a platinum.
They are easy (3/10) and take 60 - 80 hours to complete.
Price: $59.99

So after finally getting into Harry Potter recently, I’ve just completed my first playthrough of Hogwarts Legacy (Well, I’ve beaten Ranrok and done Sebastian’s questline. Need to level up for the House Cup quest.), so I thought I’d share my thoughts.
Firstly, let me say that, overall, this was a good game. I played through as a Ravenclaw (That’s what the website sorted me into), and overall, I’m glad we’re at the point where licensed games can be good again. The broom riding I thought was excellent, that’s really fun. And it’s a gorgeous game to look at.
But it does have some flaws that really hurt it for me.
So the obvious thing is Hogwarts itself, and how there’s NOTHING to do. Like, fundamentally what this game needed to be was something that allows Harry Potter fans to live their Hogwarts fantasy, but Hogwarts is such a tiny part of the game. And outside of those handful of missions, there’s nothing to do.
Like, take the common rooms. They’re really nice, well-crafted places, but there is absolutely 0 reason to ever go there. In my head, the common rooms would be like the camps from Red Dead Redemption 2. Where you can go, hang out, talk to your classmates. Play some Wizard Chess, do some potion making. But no, there’s nothing. You can’t even sleep in your bed to advance time like in so many games. Although nobody seems to sleep in this game, cause if you go in there at night, all the beds are still empty.
Around the castle there’s a similar issue, where it’s so pretty to look at, with absolutely nothing to do. The game gives you so little reason to actually spend time in Hogwarts.
Hogsmeade I liked. Exactly what you’d want from a Wizarding town, even if buying and selling in this game is a fairly boring endeavour, with so little to buy and even less that’s actually worth buying.
My character…okay, so I get that they’ve gone for the whole “self insert” thing, but I think that was a mistake. Comparing it with games like Horizon Zero Dawn, Red Dead, or anything else like that, and you come to realise the value of having a real character. By making him a self-insert, he has no backstory, no edge, nothing. He reminds me of the Pokémon protagonists, smiling like an idiot while their families are murdered. Even the “mean” dialogue options come across as totally fake, like this guy is incapable of being mean to anyone. Even all the Slytherins are a bunch of goody two-shoes. I think they’d really have benefitted from having a fixed character. Let you pick his/her house, sure, but give us someone with some meat.
Starting as a 5th year was…interesting. I expect it’s because 1st years are so restricted (No brooms, no Hogsmeade), but I think it was a mistake. Why is there no Diagon Alley in the game? Why no Hogwarts Express? Fantastic parts of the lore that we’d all love to experience, but we can’t. I think a better solution would be to have the game take place over many years. Start you as a first year, and slowly age you up as you go.
Overall the game is less about being a Hogwarts student, and more about it being a dungeon crawler. I finally understand the phrase “Wide as an ocean, shallow as a puddle”, because this is the first game where I really feel it. A huge open world, and yet I have no real desire to explore any of it. I would say they should have focused on Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, the Forbidden Forest, and the immediate surroundings.
To be clear, I have enjoyed my time with Hogwarts Legacy. But for me the game really felt like any other generic dungeon crawler. I know a sequel is in the works, so we’ll see what happens there.
Definitely a good game. But it has too many flaws for me to call it a great game.
Really thoughtful post, and I agree with almost everything you said, especially about Hogwarts. The castle is easily the most beautiful and accurate recreation we have ever seen, but after a few hours, it becomes clear that it is more of a backdrop than a living place. It is visually perfect, but there is nothing meaningful to do there. For so many fans, Hogwarts is not just a setting, it is the fantasy itself. And while the game gives you the structure, it never gives you the feeling of actually living there.
That is what the sequel absolutely has to fix. Hogwarts should not be treated like a hub between quests. It needs to feel alive, reactive, and full of day-to-day systems. The common rooms should matter. Students should have routines and relationships. Classes should be more than just cutscenes. There should be small, ambient moments that make the school feel real, like overhearing students talk about something you did earlier that day, or seeing the consequences of your choices reflected in how others treat you.
What the game also lacks, and what would make everything more grounded, is a proper sense of time. There is no real school year, no passage of weeks or terms, no momentum. You can be in winter forever and nothing changes. That completely breaks the illusion of being a student. The books and films used the seasons to mark emotional and narrative shifts, and the game should do the same. Autumn should feel warm and full of mystery, winter should feel magical and still, spring should bring stress, change, and tension. These seasonal transitions should not just change the skybox, they should influence the tone of the story, the activities available, and the behavior of students around you.
And this is where the idea of year progression becomes so important. Imagine starting in Year One, where your access is limited, your spellbook is basic, and everything feels new. Each year you grow stronger, unlock more of the world, and deepen your relationships. Friendships evolve over time. Professors remember your successes or failures. Rivalries from earlier years either fizzle out or turn into something more serious. That is how you create long-term investment. By the time you reach your final year, you feel like you have lived through something meaningful, not just rushed through a plot.
House identity should also matter much more. It should shape your social circle, your reputation, and your opportunities. Let the different houses have unique quests, different moral perspectives, or even different endings. Your choice of house should not be cosmetic, it should shape the way the world reacts to you and the way you see the story unfold.
As for the main character, I get why they went with a self-insert, but it does not work. The protagonist has no real personality, no history, and no emotional depth. Even when you pick more aggressive or arrogant dialogue, it never feels real, because the base character is too neutral and too polite. The sequel would benefit from either a defined protagonist with a real backstory, or at least one who reacts more naturally to the events around them. You can still let us shape their moral path, but give them something to start from.
In short, they already have the most important piece, the castle itself. Now they need to bring it to life. Give it rhythm, give it community, give it consequence. Let time pass, let the years matter, let the world evolve around the player in subtle and powerful ways. If they can do that, the sequel will not just be a better game, it will finally become the Hogwarts experience fans have always wanted.
Totally agree with the House identity. It always felt weird that all the characters seemed to get along no matter their house and everyone liked the MC. Would love for there to be rivalries among the houses. And if they added a companion system, I could see it set up where students in your house are easier to take on quests but you have to actually work on improving friendship level with students from other houses before they are available to go with you. I also think the game could have used Prefects and the Head of House to bring in some consequences.
> everyone liked the MC.
It's funny, because the MC is the kind of dork who would probably be bullied relentlessly in a real school.
> The sequel would benefit from either a defined protagonist with a real backstory, or at least one who reacts more naturally to the events around them. You can still let us shape their moral path, but give them something to start from.
Yeah, it's not a coincidence I brought up Red Dead. Arthur Morgan is a defined protagonist with a defined backstory, but the player still has plenty of freedom.
Totally agree, Arthur Morgan is proof that you can have a defined protagonist with a strong backstory while still giving players freedom. But it is also important to remember that Rockstar and Avalanche are not in the same league when it comes to resources or experience. Rockstar has spent decades perfecting that formula, with massive teams and budgets to support deep, reactive storytelling.
Avalanche played it safe, probably to appeal to as broad an audience as possible. But now that the first game proved the concept, the sequel is their chance to push further. They do not need to go full Rockstar, but giving the main character more depth, history, and emotional weight would go a long way. Just enough to make them feel like a real person, not an empty shell.
Damn, I have more of a decade-long sentimental attachment to the franchise that I called it a great game, but reading through your thoughts, I can't help but agree. I enjoyed it for sure, but it could have been so much more.
To be honest, half the reason I finally read the books last month was because Hogwarts Legacy looked really fun. And while it certainly is fun, it definitely could have been more so.
I’m halfway (winter) through my first play through, with most spells unlocked. Agree with your point about there being nothing to do. And even though there are side quests and small puzzles around, the rewards are pointless. All the rewards in this game are gear. ONLY gear. And gear is near meaningless by mid game. It’s to the point where I don’t even want to bother opening chests anymore. I could turn it to gold, but there is nothing worth spending it on. I don’t really care about my room of requirement, other than as a greenhouse. I don’t even see much point in the demigise quest, because it just unlocks more useless chests. At this stage, I’m really just going through the quests for the plot cutscenes. Those are the only new content. Each quest is very similar- a few easy levitation or accio puzzles, a bit of easy combat. I’m playing normal mode, and am not feeling challenged by anything. And on top of that, my dialogue choices have no real impact on anything. There feels like very little to actively work on, other than the main quests.
Admittedly, I’m not usually an rpg player. The only other open world rpgs I’ve played are Zelda botw and totk. I really enjoyed those and didn’t get bored of the gameplay loop the way I am here. Maybe because puzzles were harder? Or more variety in enemies/items I encountered? Found items are more useful? More environment types? It’s hard for me to pin down what the big difference is here.
I like the game a lot, but I totally agree that the chests of gear gets old and worthless after a while, and I don’t have any thing to spend money on either. I do disagree about the room of requirement and the vivariums, that seems like another level of game decorating them, and I wish conjurations could be bought.
Totally agree —- by halfway through the game, the chest of gear are pretty worthless.
BoTW and ToTK properly incetivise exploration and creative gameplay. Completing shrines gives direct and tangible benefits, ie increasing hearts and stamina. Finding Sheikah towers fills in your map. Exploring remote areas usually yields weapons, high value sellable items, unique enemies, etc. I think weapon deg does play a part to an extent as well.
Conversely in HL I stopped doing Merlin trials pretty quick as they were boring af and I found periodically selling gear preferable to grinding the trials. Similarly with the ancient magic hotspots, I was so OP after doing a few of them that I didn't feel much motivation to seek them all out.
The NPCs in the Zelda games are also very endearing and react to your presence. It feels like you're part of the world. And the story is much more emotionally engaging.
All this and more. My comment was too long, so I'll likely make my own review post, but yes, yes, and yes.
Completely agree with your takes!! I had a similar experience and am at the same point in the game as you (Just haven’t done that house cup part yet) and am a ravenclaw! Same exact sentiments as you. And I was really wanting more to do in the castle too. Or at least be able to sit down or interact with people more lol. Def second the common room things too! Also ravenclaw only has apples I wish we had more fun foods and drinks and stuff lol. I did really like that you could leave from the roof on your broom! That was super fun.
I’d love to see more quests with friends around the castle itself! That was the main thing I was looking forward to so I was kind of let down by that. The castle is so beautiful and fun to explore in the beginning but it gets old and I desperately wish there was more to do. Love your shallow puddle analogy that’s so real. Still adored the game and it was so fun and great for a mental escape from everything going on in the real world right now lol
As the title says, I started Hogwarts Legacy last night. The game is visually one of the best I've played. The next visually pleasing game I've played would be Destiny, so take that as you will. The gameplay is very cool. I linked my Pottermore account, so I did not get to do the full house test, but I did enjoy the fact that you can pick whichever house you want after the hat "sorts" you. I also enjoy the fact that you do not come in as an 11-year-old, but you start as a fifth-year transfer student, and being able to meet students from other wizarding schools, something the books and movies could have explored more. I also like that you don't just start with all the spells, but you have to learn new spells from the professors slowly. These are my very early thoughts on the game (about 3 hours' worth of playing). I will continue to post my thoughts on the game as I continue, and will try to make all reviews spoiler-free.
I've completed it twice and got the platinum PS5 trophy. There are some things in the game that could be better but overall the game is amazing.
on third house, still fun to play.
It’s the best game I ve ever played
Welcome to the game :)
I go from male to female characters, from house to house, from race to race. I’ve played close to 20 times.
The game is a declaration of love from the designers to the fans. The creation of spaces like the school and Hosmeade is amazing, really magical and I loved seeing spaces that until then had only been in my imagination when I read the books, for example: common rooms, kitchen, Hosmeade, passage to honeydukes, etc. But then the game feels empty upon completion. Even so, I dreamed of something like this when I played all the PS1 and PS2 games in this fantastic world.
It got a lot of stuff right, but a lot of stuff wrong.
Field Guide pages didn’t need to be a thing. No one likes having to spam revelio in every room they enter.
Merlin Trials were kind of cool, but they should have reduced the amount by at least half. Same for Ancient Magic.
The vendor system is absolute garbage. Really unforgivable for a game in the year it came out when there have been decent vendor systems in games for decades.
The side quests were great, but there just weren’t enough of them. Maybe take out some of those Trials and put in more quests?
The duel club and the summoning game were fun, why can’t we repeat them, but we can repeat the bland flying challenges?
And the main story just kind of suddenly ends. It really feels like it should have had a couple more quests. I always get surprised that the game is over.
I didn't mind the field guides too much. I spammed revelio for so much more than just those. I spam it to see enemies, consumables, secrets... Maybe they could have had an upgrade that makes revelio toggle on and off, instead of lasting for a few seconds to stop the spamming in general?
What got grating for me was going to the RoR to "identify" loot, equipping whatever's best, then traveling to Hogsmeade to unload everything else. The inventory slots are so small early game you have to do this between even the most remedial of side quests or risk not having slots available to get contents of chests. This game is plenty big and grand enough with lots to do, it doesn't need to be padded with that kind of busywork.
They also could have streamlined some of the side quests.a bit. It's annoying to keep jumping all over the map just to listen to couple lines of dialog only to have the next step in the quest be somewhere else. Especially if those steps are in Hogwarts where figuring out the right floo flame to travel is kind of a pain.
That said, this game was so much better than I was expecting.
I really like the field guide pages, they give a reason to explore every part of hogwarts
Kind of but the whole collection trudge almost every game makes you go through to get to 100% is so tedious and overdone. The Merlin trials were worse than the field guide pages imo but I wish developers would keep that stuff to a minimum and make difficult tasks for the harder trophies instead.
Yeah there’s probably too many of the collectibles/tasks like Merlin trials and such that actually have a purpose/impact. I think the field guide vs. relying entirely on a kills = Xp system or something is a rather clever way to tie progression to exploration. They could be more obvious to keep from the constant revelio spamming, but they reward you for nonviolent exploration, which feels like kind of the point to me
They could have accomplished the nonviolent exploration with quests.
For example, that treasure map you get from a fellow student takes you all over the castle. Tracking down the gobstones makes you run around the castle. The bell quest takes you to someplace you probably wouldn’t have gone otherwise. The Demiguise quest requires a lot of exploration. Bins takes you on one brief tour of a part of the castle. And every time you have to take a class for the first time requires running all around the castle.
Just put quests in all the areas and people will explore them.
Hogwarts Legacy is a fantastic virtual tour of Hogwarts. It's a mediocre video game at best.
On it's release I couldn't wait to play it....over that fortnight back then I lost motivation to play it....I couldn't put my finger on it at first & forced myself to play & finish it...safe to say that on completing the story I only went around decimating poachers & going about in the ROR then I stopped playing the game entirely.
The game started off strong but lost it's momentum before spinning & bowing out completely.
Throughout the story it's like the game didn't know what it wanted to be plus the tone of the game was incredibly patronising..like they assumed the player didn't know right from wrong.
It's also funny with the amount of time the devs put into the castle...only for it to amount to a GIANT museum. I respect the detail & collossal effort they put into it... but there is nothing to come back to. Hogwarts is a museum & we're just a visitor passing through it. Yeah there's collectables...far too many. Where's the mystery within the castle?
Night time exploration would have been fantastic yet curfew was omitted because of what? Play testers found it too tedious? What about the fans who wanted to sneak about at night? F*ck them I guess eh? They could have taken a page from dieing light where night time activity earns double the xp, night time should be dangerous outside the castlle as well, make it so you really need to know your shit so we can handle ourselves.
The main story was forever shrouded in secrecy, whats the point of having such a rare ability if it's not given the chance to properly breathe & expand? Plus they chose a really strange misuse of the power to show off then suddenly the keepers all but accuse us of becoming Isadora 2.0, though they were allready acting like we were from the start anyway.
AM should have gotten it's own skill tree so we could develop it & specialise in what we wanted to pehaps even have a number of dungeons specific to AM so that way the keepers won't stick their beaks in where there not wanted. We should have been able to somethign else with the repository..like siphoning it off in to smaller containers & dumping all but 3 to the death veil gate in the DOMS.
The NPC student behaviour & our MC's is completely unorganic, no one speaks that politely & victorian Schools especially were brutal, yes I get it's set in HP universe..but where the hell were the bullies & Rivalries? Who was our rival??
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The classes were a complete afterthought, I want mini games not cutscenes!
Crossed wands should have been permanant not some 3 pathetic stage tutorial.
The alohamora mini game was designed with nothing more as to drag the game out...honestly F*ck that mini game, the spells never worked like that in any game format if I recall correctly.
The companion quests were better...which is not saying all that much considering Sebasteins quest falls off a cliff, with poppys I expected an attack on her grans house or to be able to take her to the ROR so she can help with our beasts & Natsie? Wtf was with that "Harlows last stand" quest? Where was his first? So many elements were clearly cut & it left the game feeling incredibly jarring, too many loose ends.
There were predictable story beats that just never happened that should have, to at least give closure. Officer singer being in Rookwoods pocket, interogating Rookwood about Annes curse & forcing him to either reveal the counter curse or lift it himself, Poppys gran being attacked & kidnapped with the ashwinders demanding ransom in form of us handing ourselves over, stopping sebastein from entering the catacombs saying we've found another one of Isadoras portraits everting the catacombs events * or we do go in but force sebastein out before his idiot of an uncle storms in, we leave with the relic but cause a cave in preventing the inferi from getting out*
Don't get me started on the vendor system..among the worst I've ever seen.
I really wish we could have burned those 4 sanctimonious portraits down...4 of the most uselss NPC'S of the game in my opinion.
>the last thing I want to worry about is INVENTORY SPACE in the magical world of all places!!
I have similar thinking with the alohamora mini game. In Skyrim or Fallout it makes sense to have a lock picking mechanism, but in Hogwarts Legacy we literally have a magic spell that should do it for you.
It only exists in Hogwarts Legacy because the developers saw other games do it and thought it was mandatory.
It had an issue with where it focused resources. Less of the open world and more content in the school.
Thing is, the story content is expensive. It needs mocap and voice acting and writing. Merlin trials are cheap filler.
At least it's not 900 korok seeds. 😂
My problem was that when I was first encountering them, I couldn't do them (missing spells required to solve, or mallowsweet). By the time I could do them, I didn't care to seek them out, and was fast traveling or flying.
I always wish there was more to do inside Hogwarts. They made the interior of the school beautiful but then I feel like we hardly use it. We don’t even get to do proper classes, it’s all just cut scenes 👎
I'm wrapping up my first playthrough as a Ravenclaw (my actual Pottermore house) and while the tower is gorgeous, my fellow Ravenclaw are such a disappointment: cowardly, wanting a new student to get things done so they look good to others and believe they are cool and brave. The pillow and blanket outside the door are sad, as it indicates there are times someone can't answer the riddle to get in.
I did my two hours as a Gryffindor and might just do another playthrough on that one to see the side quests. The forms and common room are comfy looking, too.
Still need to do Slytherin and Hufflepuff.
I've always leaned more towards Slytherin and Gryffindor myself , their historic rivalry in the Harry Potter series created some of the most compelling characters and storylines. My personal ranking would be Slytherin , Gryffindor and then Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw.
tho Gryffindor's common room it's nice but Slytherin's just has that cool, mysterious vibe and that secret snake door , Perfection.
Wishing you magical discoveries in your other house playthroughs.✨
I've done all 4 houses. Loved them all but being a moon child Slytherin is my favorite with the ocean or river lake whatever you want to label it, it's just awesome.
100% agree, That underwater common room view is pure magic ✨
Hufflepuff! The dorm is so cozy and warm. It feels like home to me 🥰
Nice! Then Hufflepuff will definitely be my next playthrough ✨ That cozy dorm sounds perfect.
I've played all four houses, and Hufflepuff is by far my favorite, followed by Ravenclaw. I hope you enjoy it!
So wish the online version and the sequel weren’t put on ice. WB are idiots when it comes to their games. They should have released a sequel by now or at least a sizeable DLC.
Completely agree! The game's world was perfect for DLC expansions , we could've gotten Quidditch, new regions, or even multiplayer. Now all the leaks suggest they've abandoned those plans to focus on HL2 instead. Typical WB , always leaving money (and fan satisfaction) on the table
Slytherin. Always.
I'm a Slytherin/Gryffindor fan too - their dynamic always drove the best stories.
Hi everyone! I just wanted to discuss Hogwarts Legacy and all its puzzles, features, quirks, and overall gameplay. As a person who has a played almost all of the HP games since I was a kid, I must say, HL is an admirable heir to each and every one of them, comprising of combined characteristics from the games, the books, the movies, and almost all other HP/WW media.
Firstly, I’d like to appreciate the world. The developers of HL seriously put in the effort to make Hogwarts as well as its surroundings look authentic and original. I truly enjoyed roaming The Highlands, battling enemies, finding collectibles, doing Merlin Trials, Ancient Magic Spots, etc. In comparison to the first HP games, both for the PS1 and PS2, whose world was fairly limited (of course, it was the early 2000s), HL really broadens and expands it, finally making it possible for players to walk and explore for hours whilst not running out of challenges and activites. Yes, some challenges were trickier and more difficult to complete, but we’d all be remiss if we don’t agree that earlier HP games also had their fair share of rage-inducing moments.
Secondly, Hogwarts itself was marvelously designed. I like that they remained close to the castle’s design from the movies, yet still added significant upgrades and embellishments to really make it realistic. The architecture, the interiors and exteriors, the common rooms, the floo flames, the subtle trees, bushes, shrubs in and around its grounds, they truly made it alive, and as magical as it can get. I also adored the fact that it had “secret” or “unlockable” rooms and areas in which collectibles were placed, it really brought me back to when I was exploring Hogwarts in the PC/PS1/PS2 days.
Thirdly, I loved the addition of Hogsmeade. I don’t remember any HP games to have Hogsmeade, so I really enjoyed cruising around vendors, shops, seeing the popular locations from the books and movies, the surrounding villages, all of it.
Fourthly, I absolutely loved the fact that you have your own “Room od Requirement”, because it really allowed you to be a wizard and do wizard things. Whether it’s rescuing/breeding beasts, growing plants, brewing potions, using the magical loom, all those things. It really made it available for us to kind of feel the life of a wizard in the wizarding world, encompassing all magical aspects and “hobbies” per say. Though it’s a bit tricky to get the 100% for RoR stats, it is an enjoyable process.
Fifthly, and finally, I’d like to say what could have been a bit better. Some challenges, like the Merlin Trials with the stone blocks, as well as the treasure caves, also with stone blocks, were unnecessarily difficult to complete. I understand the challenges needed to be varied, but I felt that those types of puzzles were a bit of a stretch. Also, collecting and upgrading the gear was a bit confusing to me, I didn’t really understand the upgrading part at first and sold most of the things I collected, ultimately ending up with weaker gear at the end of the game, so that kinda irritated me as well. One thing that really pissed me off though, was collecting the Field Guide Pages, and having to experience the glitch of having 149/150 in Hogwarts, despite knowing I have collected all of them (it says 150/150 in the collections menu). I also encountered some crashes during gameplay, especially during more heated moments such as boss fights and such, but that may be attributed to my PC as well.
In conclusion, HL is truly a very enjoyable game, and to people like me who love HP, it really makes it a unique gaming experience, fulfilling all the aspects and expectations one could have of the wizarding world. I just wanted to share this with all of you and maybe spike up some conversations about how you feel about the game.
Wishing everyone a pleasant day/night! Cheers!
All its puzzles
You mean the same 6 puzzles copied and pasted a hundred times?
The world was lifeless and boring. Offered no incentive to explore other than to satisfy people with ocd that need to finish checklists
Hogwarts looked great but it was basically a virtual museum.
It’s an ok game that has a lot of missed potential.
No need for hostility, my idea was to spark a friendly discussion about the game. Turned out to be more of a venting place for people who hated it. Don’t really know what everyone expected, but I feel like we should be try to be at least a little satisfied with what we got, instead of dwelling on and pompously suggesting how it could’ve been better.
It’s not hostility, I have no problem with the fact you liked it. Despite my complaints I liked it as well. It just could’ve been so much better. The developers seem to read this stuff on Reddit, and I’m just worried they’re going to think there doesn’t need to be some big changes in HL2
Could have cut half the Merlin trials out easily. Also could have used more classes and things to do inside of the school. But I do think it’s easily the best HP game and is a solid 8/10.
Combat is great. Story sucks. Not enough side activities. Too many collectibles. That’s about it.
Pretty much this. I think my biggest gripe is for an open-world game, it didn’t feel as if I had that much freedom. It felt like a linear game with more space to move around between point A and point B.
There were no consequences for your choices, no morality system, no major way of changing your play style, etc.
Don’t wanna sound like a hater. I enjoyed the game for what it was. It just doesn’t have much replay value for me. Sure, I could start a new playthrough and choose a different house, but dont have much motivation to do that when the story is basically the exact same. Just different robes and a different common room that I might visit twice.
It was a good foundation, but if there’s a sequel in the works, I’d like to see some improvements to the aforementioned concerns.
I'll add that the open world is so... Empty? Like yeah, you can go everywhere but there is so little to do I feel.
What would you change about the story? It seemed pretty straightforward to me.
I'd argue against HL being a great successor to the previous entries, there are certainly elements Legacy does better such as the combat, the design of the castle the fact you can explore the grounds, Hogsmeade, forbiddne forest & Highlands, enviromental design, the visuals of the spells, the sound FX & soundtrack.
To me & I've been a HP fan since the early 2000's while I enjoyed aspects of the game it has to be one of the most shallow games I've ever played in my life, I've also played games since the early 2000's & it's appalling what this game is missing seeing how games that came out 20+ years ago went well above & beyond
Here are my big gripes with the game
THE STORY
This was 1 of the worst parts of the game for me, the game really didn't know what direction it wanted to go in. I also never felt threatened by Rookwood or Ranrok seeing how the game was always trying to shield you from danger, the game just holds your hand far too much. Rookwood was also one of the most pathetic villains I've ever come across & Ranrok even more so, if both were really that desperate to nab us then they should have had their followers the ashwinders constantly pursue us instead of standing idle in camps. I also believe we should have stayed in the castle then slowly venture out, it felt like the game couldn't wait to chuck the player out to go complete random nonsense.
THE MC & NO PLAYER AGENCY
Is dull, boring, & lacks any kind of personality whatsoever & sounds like an HP bot " But it was done so you can self insert" No just not, a blank slate MC does NOT work for this type of game, it works for mass effect & the witcher. The MC is a souless empty vessel designed with the intention of carrying the story forward regardless if the player wants to go different ways & nothing else. Stop forcing me to be the wizard the WRITERS want me to be & let me F*cking CHOOSE. Everything is allready layed out defeating the entire purpose of choice. I felt much more like an audience member than a proper student because what I say doesn't mean sh**in this game our actions don't matter & no one reacts to what we do, just what the absolute F*ck writers??A safe product is a souless product.
ANCIENT MAGIC, THE KEEPERS & ISADORA
I cannot express enough just how much of an utter failure the AM narritive was. Here's this ability that we posses that many of us expected to be able to wield better & learn more AM spells...instead we learn nothing beyond users starting late because of how the ability manifests, we learn no new spells or ways of controlling what we know. The trials wer boring, tedious & a complete waste of time, the keepers a pack of insufferable useless lecturers too afraid to study a power that only 1 of them possesed then decided the rest of the world shouldn't know of & kill another user because they didn't use the power the way the keepers wanted, yes I know they killed her because she posed a danger but the story was so grossly 1 sided that I would have sided with Isadora just out of spite for the keepers. Not once do we get to hear Isaodra side becasue we're fed everything through the keepers pensives & I hated that.
THE NPC'S & OVERALL INTERACTION
Lifelesss & the students dissapear at night which is just creepy. The fact that I can't interact with chairs or even my own bed in the common room among many others makes this game feel very very hollow. Spinning globes around Hogwarts isn't my idea of interacting. You can barely talk to NPC'S & the dialogue is very limiting as well. Also NPC's don't behave as normal humans beings, this aversion of skirting around any percived offence is insufferable & exhausting, why is every NPC so damn chirpy & have nothhing bad to say against us?
THE VILLIANS
Rookwood & Ranrok just weren't that Iconic as villains, especially Rookwood, he is one of the most pathetic villains in this game, Harlow was more of a challnege but that's not saying much seeing how we only get 1 fight with each of them " Harlows last stand" what an absoulte joke of a wust that was. The ashwinders feel largely as a artificially enforced threat too & the fact that none of them ever use the 3 imfamous curses on us really diminishes their threat level entirely. Oh sure they brag but it's all hearsay, I would have liked to interupt their buissness if they have NPC's at wand point or are trying to steal creatures.
THE SCHOOL SYSTEM
There should have been a curfew or at least an adjustable 1 where you can flick it on or off or adjust the difficulty of it as I seen another commentor mention. There should have been house points, Rivariles & students try to bully us along with making bonds like Harry does but we don;t get that & honestly it makes you feel like your really not apart of the world & nothing but a spectre walking the castle. Basically Bully should have been the blueprint for HL because as HL stands, it is appallingly shallow.
MORE MINI GAMES & STUDENT CLUBS
A permanant Crossed wands not 3 pathetic tutorials,a potions club like the HBP game where you actually brew & it's not just a lazy button tap. Knomb chucking, Exploding snap * or the equivalent of it in this era* Wizard chess, I would say Quidditch but unless they get those controls fixed for broom flight it's a no go, it would still be great to have it as another activity.
INVENTORY LIMITATION, ECONOMY & LOOT
Just why the F*ck would you limit inventory in a game like this? It's the magical world, I shouldn't have to worry about space at all! More than likely done to cover up how utterly dohsh** the loot system they have rather than to " Incentivise exploration". The economy is garbage why not have errands for the player to earn money & also have the ability to steal from shop owners instead of forcing us to be a "good little student" I have no wish to pay extortionists. The loot is trash & it's not the loot that you would want, I expected spell books or wripped pages, books that spoke about the history of a place or person or the other potions you brew like thunderbrew or endurus..but no here's a pair of glasses instead....
THE OPEN WORLD
Is empty & baron, this is especially apparent with the dungeons that have no foes & loot is insignificant, to loot should match not only the size of the chest but go according to either your current level or just above it. The merlin trials were tedious & there was no noeed for as many of them as there were least of all as using it as a way to limit inventory...I was not a fan of that at all.
Wow, kudos to such a detailed and insightful analysis, though I am sorry that you’ve obviously not enjoyed the game.
It genuinely is a bummer to see that most of you actually don’t like the game, I don’t really agree with most of what you’re naming as the “negative” traits, but everyone has their own taste. Personally, after maybe 15+ years of not having touched a Harry Potter game, this one really stood out to me, and I truly enjoyed it for what it was.
The combat and controls are outstanding and should be the industry standard (speaking to you Rockstar). The complete absence of choice consequences was a huge mistake. The game has almost no replayability for me because of that. World building and fan service were also A+.
I was reading a post earlier and someone mentioned the Kitchen in Hogwarts and whether or not we would have access and it got me thinking; surely this game won’t be like Hogwarts Mystery where certain areas of the castle or grounds have to be ‘unlocked’ or ‘available at a higher level or later in game’ right??? The single most important thing I am looking forward to is roaming literally EVERY. SINGLE. INCH. of the castle and grounds and I’m wondering how possible that would be, any thoughts??
I don't honestly expect to be able to explore the entire castle. I would love too, but it is absolutely massive. Maybe that's just me keeping my expectations low, and hopefully I'm proven wrong. I would not be surprised at all though if some areas are locked until we progress further.
I mean, it’s very possible and realistic some areas will be “locked” simply because our character doesn’t know about it or doesn’t have a password.
We might have to find the kitchen password before we can go in there. We might have to discover secret passages on maps before we can use them. We’ll have to figure out from other students how to get into the common rooms that aren’t ours.
There are perfectly natural ways to keep us “locked” from areas at the beginning.
Yeah, I prefer the idea of having to discover passwords or locations through gameplay.
I actually want some areas to be locked until later on. Part of the fun is unlocking new places to explore and i can almost guarantee you that some areas won't be accessible until you learn new spells/acquire special items/finish certain quests
I would like too, it's better to be progressive than unlock everything at first and then die of boring because because nothing is new.
I think either can be fun (botw was one of my favorite games), but they'll probably take the progressive approach; That's how all the past HP games have been. My favorite HP games are chamber of secrets and order of the Phoenix, and both of them had various implementations of it.
I wouldn’t be mad if some parts are locked if I’m honest, at least early in the game. Or maybe not locked but just not accessible until you’ve unlocked certain abilities.
Yep! Or like you'll have to go back to certain areas and explore some more after finding new spells and whatnot!
Yeah, I see this being the most viable route from a game mechanic POV
It wouldn’t surprise me if some areas are locked until the character learns a way to access the area. Like areas off limits to students, you may be able to access them, but not until you learn how to make a polyjuice potion, or learn of a secret passage or something as a way to get in undetected. Something along those lines
All of these visuals are from Hogwarts Legacy:
I love how they made the grounds outside hogwarts actually have people living there, besides just like one street in hogsmede. it's a village yes, but that doesn't mean all the houses are on 2 streets
The common rooms are a big thing for me!! They look incredible in-game and I always felt like they were too small in the movies for the amount of students you’d see eating in the great hall lol.
I hope they don’t change the exterior of the castle though, it’s too iconic and I suspect that the Universal Parks would be a little bummed 😂
same with ministry of magic and gringotts, I wonder if they’ll refrain from too many changes because the parks would look stupid if it’s a whole new visual.
The game makes me sad because there is so much potential.
I wish they went with a puzzle/mini-game heavy approach with combat sprinkled in in the form of dueling clubs, tests, and a smattering of plot-driven conflicts.
It seems stupid you can just go around murdering hundreds of life forms and doesn't fit with the IP at all.
I also get why they made the world outside of the grounds so large but think it would have been more fruitful to just make the grounds more dense. Hogwarts is supposed to be a castle with endless corners and secrets and mysteries.
Focus should have been on unlocking secrets and solving mysteries in the castle, attending classes, etc.
I am actually interested in a total new imagination of the common rooms(we only saw gryffindor and slytherin (once) in the movies). The gryffindor common room in the movies felt a little too congested to me. I'd be totally on board with the idea of taking inspiration from hogwarts legacy, not totally making it the same as that. I think they can change up the interiors of Hogwarts as much as possible, but I guess they can't really change how hogwarts looks from the outside because it's too iconic. The production designer is amazing, is what I hear, so I hope to see great things. Would love a different and more denser look for the forbidden forest as well!
Recently reread the books. Was bummed when I found put we missed out on the great scene in Ravenclaw's commonroom with McGonagall (the last book).
I just hope they have two separate staircases in gryffindor so that the girls one can turn into a slide when the boys try to go up it 🤣🤣🤣
Hogwarts Legacy 2 is being developed to tie into the TV series, so I hope so. The designs for the common rooms are GORGEOUS. The overall design for Hogwarts is absolutely gorgeous.
I wonder what this actually means. I really hope the sequel isn’t set during the HP timeline. I still want a 6th year with my protagonist, and then hopefully a 7th to make it a trilogy.
Personally I'd love it if they set the game during the same time as that Hogwarts Mystery mobile game. So we can see the familiar characters from the books but not interfere with the events.
And I would really like to play as 11yo and decrease level of violence, with more harmless comfy quests and less drama. Id really like the game to be something like first two hp games, but have bigger scale and vast openworld.
That probably means that the new games hogwarts, their uniforms etc will be based on the tv shows aesthetic rather than the other way around.
To neither I think. They did take the Hogwarts exterior from the later movies and there's a few Easter eggs from the books and movies or how things were described in the books.
I think Professor Black is the only canon character from the original books that I remember, they included one character that came from the chocolate frogs in the first or second Harry Potter game from way back I think.
Apart from that HL1 all set in its own timeline.
Explore everything. Countless hours exploring will be your friend.
Read countless as 60h to 100% the game, still good for the money, game is trivial difficulty even on hardest and gets a bit repetetive
The game is too easy. The combat mechanics were supergood, but there are 0 good enemies. The hp universe and the combat would be so good for some darksouls type magic creatures, and all we get is the same troll all over the mal
Revelio is your best friend. Use it routinely.
I literally am never not using revelio 😂😂😂 esp on missions with the spiders 😭
You can change the appearance of your gear to whatever you have already found/unlocked/purchased, so you don't have to go around looking like a lunatic to enjoy the best stats.
