TL;DR
Official Figma Resources
The official Figma YouTube channel is a highly recommended starting point for beginners. It offers a range of tutorials, guides, and webinars that cover various features and workflows [2:1]
[5:6]. These resources are created by professionals and provide real-world examples that can help you understand how to use Figma effectively
[2:2].
Online Courses and Platforms
Several online platforms offer comprehensive courses for learning Figma. Udemy has basic videos that cover fundamental concepts [3:1], while Mizko's Figma Masterclass provides a more in-depth look at designing with Figma, although some content may be slightly outdated due to new features
[2:5]
[3:2]. For those looking for a structured learning path, Figma Academy and Figmaster offer beginner to intermediate level courses
[5:1].
Interactive Exercises and Practice
Practicing by creating projects is emphasized as one of the best ways to learn Figma. Websites like Figma Marathon offer mini-exercises that allow you to learn by doing [2:3]
[5:2]. Additionally, examining complex templates and trying to replicate designs can be an effective way to understand the software's capabilities
[1:1].
Community and Additional Resources
Engaging with the Figma community can also enhance your learning experience. Platforms like DesignerUp on YouTube provide additional tutorials focused on web design and UI/UX [2:4]. Participating in community-driven classes or workshops, such as those offered by Let's Level Up, can provide personalized feedback and support from industry experts
[3:4].
Hey all I’m looking for your go-to beginner Figma tutorials. I’ve made my way through the ones on their site just wondering what others you’ve found helpful
Hmm, my personal tipp: download a complex template file, like web design and examine it. I think this is a fun and effective way, because the operation of the software is basically simple.
Hi everyone, quite new here so if I ask a stupid question it's because I am new to this.
I want to know what are the best Figma tutorials or yt channels that are beginner friendly as I am starting to learn about working in WP with Elementor so I think that I need to learn how to design UI in Figma first before I start doing anything in Elementor. I am a bit tight on the budget so free resources would be good but I don't mind if you share some paid ones as well.
Thanks
The official Figma YouTube channel is really good.
There is a ton of great tutorials, guides, webinars, and more for every feature, workflow, or process possible. They're not just documentation videos -- it's videos put together by professionals showing real-world workflows. They're also very consumable.
For Figma exercises you can try: https://figmamarathon.com/
DesignerUp is great one to subscribe to, lots of web design, figma and UI design tutorials
I liked Mizko’s master class(paid) (a bit outdated with new features). I think it’s solid for a reponsive/figma crash course… updates have changed the steps though.
And the complex single icon component with color and size variants was a problem in deep files with repetative icon usage (memory limits).
Here’s a free YouTube playlist that gets you pretty far in no time: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7fJbgi8X0nzf7Dj_TNB-T011Bd7QBUD4
Godspeed and feel free to ping back any questions you may have!
Hi all. Any courses and resources to learn Figma targeted to beginners? It doesn't have to be free. I have new team mates joining soon and I need some resources to help them with the transition from Adobe world. Thanks.
Hello, I was a beginner before taking mizko's Figma masterclass and was watching his free YouTube video. But this course taught me how to set up before designing. I used the design system process in my own projects and my clients were so impressed that I got my first 10k project.
I think it really gives you all you need to become a Figma pro and start collaborating with devs and other designers alike. Also, great plugin recommendations!
I bought the course for $180. but happy to share it for an affordable price if you are interested in buying it.
Give them challenges. When I was being trained my trainer would have me make things in Figma instead of photoshop. At first it was mind numbing frustrating but it gave me great skills I can use every day.
Need a new logo, try making it in Figma. Making GIF's, make it in Figma.
That makes sense, thanks
I think there are several ways such as Youtube videos and pre-recorded courses. However, the best way to do this is via live interactions and in a community. Have you checked out Let's Level Up? They are fantastic!
They collaborate with industry experts to get you the best quality teaching in cohort-based classes which makes learning community-driven, personalized and the instructors give you detailed feedback on assignments hence improving your portfolio.
They have a free workshop this Saturday actually you might want to register for it if they have not closed registrations yet. Attaching the link: https://www.letslevelup.io/event-details/design-systems-with-figma-with-mihika-shilpi
Thanks for the tip, I’ll check it out
No worries :)
Udemy has some basic videos for some of duh basics and I think Figma has some fun templates that include tutorials such as the auto-layout recently.
Thanks. Agree, the auto-layout template is great
You’re welcome!
I am new to Figma and design. I am looking for resources (books, YouTube channels, courses). My focus is on UI/UX. Anything that helped you? Please share!!
https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/sections/30880632542743-Figma-Design-for-beginners.
but UI/UX is not about learning figma, or making UI. it’s about solving problems (user experience). don’t forget to learn how to do that.
Check https://fountn.design/ for all kinds of design resources.
Figma's website has a nice beginner's course on it. Try completing it. Then move ahead to youtube, don't look for videos that are all in one type. Look for 10-15 minutes videos explaining one topic they explain a lot so it'll help.
Basically as the title suggests. Cam someone recommend an online resource for me to learn Figma from A-Z? Thanks and I hope I didn't come across stupid wording the question this way.
Figma's original tutorials on YouTube, can be a good start. BUT I don't think you will learn much just by passively observing videos. Try practicing as much as you can. I found this resource https://figmamarathon.com/ to be super cool. It has lots of mini figma exercises to learn by doing.
Oh super cool, thanks!
I agree about practice being the best way to learn
I recently completed 3 Figma courses:
Figma Academy is an advanced course. The 2nd and the 3rd ones are more beginner to intermediate level.
As others already suggested, Figma's YouTube channel and their community files are great, too.
Figma Academy is great once you’ve learned the basics from YouTube.
Exactly! Figma Academy is not for beginners, it's a great next step after completing beginner level courses and tutorials.
Thanks for the resources mate.
Youtube is perfect, I am currently learning, How I do is create a fake projects for myself and try to build it in Figma so I see all the challenges and the obstacles then I search the forums, Reddit and youtube for solutions.
I hope this helps
Their YouTube channel is great. YouTube: FigmaDesign
I have courses from mizko, shiftnudge pro, supercharge design, flux academy, if anyone’s looking for any of these, you can dm me
Hello! We’re Figma’s Product Education team, and we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve just launched a brand new (and free) Figma Design for beginners course! If you’ve ever been curious about learning Figma, this course is for you.
We start by covering the basics, like shapes, text, and frames, before digging into more advanced features like auto layout, components, and prototyping. By the end, you’ll have created a responsive and customizable portfolio website completely from scratch.
We’re so excited to share this new course with you! As a team of passionate educators, nothing brings us more joy than helping people reach those “aha” moments when tricky concepts start to click. We hope this course becomes a valuable resource on your Figma journey. Happy learning!
thank you I like Figma. If we could use variable values in a textfield it would transcend design and software itself.
ok bye
This is literally the first thing I tried to do - thanks for confirming I’m not insane
You can do that. If not the existing way then how do you mean?
No, you can only do it for the entire text field. Not certain words in the text field.
This is a great help for all the soon to be junior ux designers wanting to break into the field that is of such huge demand
Do you need a paid account to complete the course?
Edit: this is great news :)
Nope! We only cover features available on the free Starter plan!
Beauty!
It’s cool, but … why did you use the term “educators.” To describe Figma employees? Posting a video to YouTube doesn’t make you an educator? I myself do teach at a design school, and always find it odd when corporate employees call themselves educators.
I’m really liking it so far! Last week, I was going through the old tutorials, and then boom—this shiny new course shows up. And honestly, it’s way better! The lessons are shorter, and you can actually work on your own stuff while watching. Big fan of the new one! I am on lesson 13 right now 😊
We're so glad you're enjoying it!
Hell yeah. That's a smart move Figma.
hi
can anyone recommend good figma courses / tutorials on youtube.
i'll check it out thanks
I've been watching this video, and he explains it quite dynamically. I'm only in half through it and have a lot of materials to practise.
For beginners, though
cool thanks
As the tiltle says, i want to learn figma this weekend and make a big progress this time but i don't know where to start from and i don't want to waste time in useless ressources since i don't have a lot of free time , so please if u can provide me with some advice concerning the best path , ressources, websites , courses ...
First off, don't get overwhelmed by all the features Figma offers. Start with the basics. There are tons of free tutorials and resources out there that can help you get a grip on the fundamentals. YouTube is your friend here – search for beginner tutorials, and you'll find some really user-friendly guides that'll walk you through the interface, basic tools, and simple project setups. Spend a bit of time each day practicing, and you'll start to feel more comfortable.
One resource I'd highly recommend checking out is https://siter.io/. It's a cool tool that bridges the gap between design and website development, allowing you to export your Figma designs directly to a website format. This can be a game-changer because it lets you see your designs come to life in real-time, making the learning process more interactive and rewarding.
Additionally, Figma's community is a treasure trove of resources. There's a specific plugin I think you'll find incredibly useful: "Export Figma to Websites and HTML by Siter.io" (you can find it here: https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/1014191120140241695/export-figma-to-websites-and-html-by-siter-io). This plugin is a fantastic way to understand how your designs can translate into actual websites. It's one thing to design something that looks good, but understanding how it works in a real-world application is a whole different ball game.
Remember, the key to learning Figma—or anything, really—is patience and practice. Don't be afraid to experiment with your designs. Make mistakes, learn from them, and keep pushing your boundaries. The design community is incredibly supportive, so don't hesitate to join forums, ask questions, and share your progress. Everyone started somewhere, and there's no better time to start than now.
If your have experience with others like Sketch, XD etc. just give it a go. Do some test sketches/designs and figure the features on the go.
Soak up Figma's YouTube channel.
Review Figma's Best Practices.
Figma's Help Center is a great for diving into details.
Short of injecting the information directly into your brain, these are 3 great starting points.
I have an ambitious little project that I want to start, but where to I start?
Are there specific things to do, videos to watch, tutorials or blogs or articles to follow?
Assume I am completely, utterly new and that ELI5 might be too difficult for me :D
I know some photoshop and some illustrator. Not a lot though, just enough to make some basic icons. Yesterday I also downloaded Adobe Xd which is free for personal use apparently.
Thanks a bunch <3
I'd suggest taking a look at any of the commercial UI kits for Figma after you achieved basic levels of learning Figma. It helps to extend your skills, save time and learn how to work with components more decent.
Thank you :)
Watch YouTube videos and just start playing around with it. In my opinion, all the tools are very straightforward.
What you should familiarize yourself with is the logic of frames vs. groups. Also proper naming conventions for components. Lastly, master Auto Layout and all its uses. You can create very complex and responsive components with AL and make life easier down the line.
Thanks :)
how/where to start depends on the project type. what are you creating?
Let me impart my how-to-learn wisdom.
By the way, choose one software app. Don't bounce between each because you're not in this to evaluate a tool.
If you get stuck, take a break. If everything frustrates you, well, you'll need to decide if you want to stick with this or choose another career path.
Best!
EDIT: Well, look here! If you read some prior posts someone created a starter just for you:
https://www.reddit.com/r/FigmaDesign/comments/lu6c8r/tutorial_learn_basic_tips_and_tricks_of_figma_by/
I was looking at udemy and was thinking of signing up to one of their courses, but unsure which one to choose, has anyone signed up to any of the courses on there?
Any other recommendations?
thanks.
Definitely start with Figma's official Youtube channel first, then perhaps look at paid courses if you're still keen to know more.
When I started using figma I did about 40+ hours of learning, both free and paid courses. In my experience, you can become a figma master just by watching their YouTube main channel basics and then practicing a lot. They also have some community files called ‘playgrounds’ where a lot of their most basic and amazing functions are taught in and easy and interactive way.
I’d telk you stick with their main channel, their playgrounds, stay away from paid courses, and look at specific tutorials por specific use cases (the more used to figma you become, the more inconsistencies and bad practices you’ll start to notice in those videos).
Search for "The UI prep syllabus on learning figma" on google.
Also official figma documentation on their website and their youtube videos are the best sources for learning figma in my opinion.
Thanks for posting, I'm trying to re-learn Figma. I used it once like two years for college and finally decided to maybe, possibly, pursue a career in UI
I learnt through YouTube and now I have a paid internship. You really do not need any paid course. CäStart with this: https://youtu.be/jwCmIBJ8Jtc
What is your internship about if you don't mind me asking
Mostly working on design system
