TL;DR Character customization in Hogwarts Legacy allows for some personalization, including presets and sliders for certain features. However, detailed face customization is limited, with more focus on attributes like house, wand, and Patronus. Mods may offer additional customization options.
Customization Options
Hogwarts Legacy offers character customization primarily through presets and sliders for features such as skin tone, hair, eye color, freckles, and moles [1:4]
[1:5]. While players can adjust these aspects, there are no sliders for facial features, which limits the depth of customization compared to other RPGs
[1:1]. Some users expressed disappointment at the lack of detailed customization given the game's emphasis on experiencing Hogwarts "your way"
[1:6].
Linking Wizarding World Accounts
There was interest in linking Wizarding World accounts to enhance the personalization of characters, allowing automatic assignment of houses, wands, and Patronuses based on existing profiles [2:2]. However, opinions were mixed, with some preferring manual selection to maintain control over their character's traits
[2:1]
[2:3]. The idea of integrating personality tests for sorting was also discussed but deemed unlikely
[2:2].
Additional Customization Features
Players expressed a desire for more immersive customization options, such as blood status affecting NPC interactions and dialogue choices [3:1]
[3:2]. Clothing customization, including house robes, was another popular request
[3:3]. Some users hoped for unique character traits, like being a werewolf or having prophetic abilities, though these might impact gameplay too significantly to be included
[3:4].
Modding and Post-Creation Changes
While initial customization is somewhat limited, mods could potentially expand these options [4:2]. After starting the game, players can make minor adjustments to their character's appearance using in-game features like the scissors icon in Hogsmeade, which allows changes to complexion, scars, and colors
[4:1]. However, significant changes to face shape or skin color are not possible without mods
[4:3].
Technical Issues and Solutions
Some players encountered issues where the game skipped the customization process entirely, starting with a generic character [5:2]. To resolve this, resetting the game or accessing the profile/character icon later allows for customization of certain aspects, excluding gender and house
[5:1]
[5:3].
With recent reveal I really do hope that we are able to customise our faces a bit more in depth and not only have given faces. To me it would be really stupid not to be able to make character as much as possible your way, especially given how the marketing of this game is all about “experience hogwarts your way etc”
Does anyone have any info on are we going to have a bit more in depth face feature customisation?
I agree, especially like you said because of the "experience hogwarts" marketing angle. If you want me to experience Hogwarts it would be nice to actually see me in there!
Some games are kind of wild with how much you can customize, but if there ever was one to go that far for a good reason, it would be this one!
But I suspect what they presented was pretty much complete, and I won't be too disappointed either way, I'll still have a great time I'm sure!
Maybe the reason we don't see any sliders or buttons for the face is because we can just pull and push the face directly with cursor, kinda like the sims 4. Just wishful thinking tho.
So far it looks like there are only presets but sliders for skin-, hair-, eye- and eyebrow color, and sliders for freckles and moles.
Well that is very disappointing if it turns out to be true..
Alright honestly I dont understand why I am getting downvoted? Think what you want but it is 2022.. And game is being made in unreal engine (basically all the tools are there) so yes I am disappointed especially as it is an RPG game.
I know how you feel but lets hope that the info from autodesk presentation is not everything and final
There are no sliders for face parts, only hair, eyebrows and scars
I have the same hopes. I don't need it as detailed as in other games where I can expand my nostrils by two millimeters, but at least some options for the different facial parts, similar to Dragon Age Inquisition. 15 faces are not that much and it not feel really good if we could not customize the faces. Imagine you don't like the 15 faces and then you find one which looks "meh, but I will take this one" but it has a big nose or too small eyes and you can not even change it
I really hope with how complex the character customization is going to be that we will have the option to link our wizarding world accounts to our character and from there get put into a more realistic house and get wands that match our personalities and of course Patronus's. Not saying it should be a requirement but it would be a fun aspect if you wanted to have a more realistic experience. Vote if you agree!
It's a nice luxury, but I doubt they'd go this far. The most they'd do is put us through a personality test or something (which is basically how you get sorted in the wizarding world site anyway) but I can also see a lot of people wanting the ability to just choose and that option would appeal more to the casual audience who is bound to pick up this game.
Completely unnecessary, in my opinion. I want to play the game, and character customization is part of the game. I don't want to load a profile that will auto give me a wand and house based on previous data. Not to mention, there isn't much to customize anyway other than house and wand (and patronus). Besides, if those are customizable, you already know what you got on Wizarding World, so just enter those, that's 3 clicks. I hope dev spend time on something that is actually important.
I agree with you that it shouldn't be the main means of customization, but I also find that some people would like to have a more personal experience with the customization and feel that what they are given in the game truly belongs to their personality. Just saying it would be cool to have the option to link it to a character.
I'm not saying that there shouldn't be customization. I'm saying you can customize it yourself. You don't need an option to link your accounts just for 3 traits.
It would be...if I were planning on playing myself in the game, which I'm not.
I already have my first four characters roughly planned out***** - House, backstory, personality, etc, etc, - and they are all very distinct and very different from me, so it wouldn't make sense for them all to have the same wand, House, and Patronus as I do.
*****Because that's just the type of person I am.
Would be curious to hear an overview of the 4 characters. Possible inspiration haha.
Lol would've never thought of making backstories for my characters but honestly I'm all for it!
I voted for this idea because I agree... BUT I think it would be more fun to go through the process of picking everything out anyways, to see the options even if I end up choosing the same wands, it'll be fun to choose them.
Character customization will suck, don't ask me why, i just know it will suck.
Any others you can think of feel free to add in the comments!
Blood status for me, it would be amazing if the NPCs react differently to you depending on your blood status, especially Slytherin NPC's. Not only that, even having a few perks related to the blood status, having blood status in-game dialogues options (basically the Cyberpunk 2077's equivalent of the Life paths's in-game based dialogues options (Nomad, Street Kid, Corpo)
Same for me(and yes I'm a Slytherin) but I want the muggle borns to be rare(i wanted to play as a muggle born Slytherin) it was confirmed that there was in fact muggle-born Slytherins but they were really rare in Slytherin. And yes the blood in that world is really important, dialogue would be different with certain changes depending on the character that they interact with.
No wonder a Slytherin is so fixated in their blood status.

Clothing so I can wear my Slytherin’s robe whenever I want. I don’t really care about the « type of wizard » because I want to play some regular character, not so powerful, nor insignificant. Blood-status and face’s customizations are also important to me.
I feel like the type of Witch/Wizard you are is such a game changer that they won't let you choose it, I mean, seeing into the future or being a werewolf is something that can drastically change the plot and gameplay, so it will either be ommited entirely or a character quirk you have by default.
I want all of these
Everything tbh
Is there any way to change the face shape/skin colour of your character?
With mods yes, otherwise no
no after you’ve started
Look for the scissors icon in hogsmeade. You can change the complexion a tiny bit, along with adding scars, changing hair and eye color
I’m trying to try out this game but the game just loads with a generic male character and completely skips the character customization process. I kind of want to make my own character, that’s the point right? Am I missing something?
Normally you have some randomized characters on a screen where you pick your character's gender and after you pick that you can customize it. Though you can still always customize character later when you click on the profile/character icon later (everything but gender/house).
Yeah it’s not even giving me that choice it just throws me in front of Rowan with a speech bubble and my character is already made, avatar and everything.
Yeah. You can fix your appearance just a few minutes later.
Im kinda new to hogwarts legacy my longest play so far is just under 48 hours and its nit that i dont like my character i just wish i chose a different hair and when i was going to hogsmeade to sell some gear since my slots were full and I came across this shops and when I went in to sell my stuff she was saying if I wanted a new cut and suddenly I WAS ABLE TO CHANGE MY HAIR, EYES COMPLESXION AND ALL THAT?? WHAT??? HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS BEFORE 😭😭😭 ARE THEIR ANY OTHER SHOPS LIKE THIS????
There’s a shop in Hogsmeade where you can do this
I know that's what I was talking about in the post 😅 that I just found out that said shop exists 😅😅😅
Oh yes, and Mods are rather fun too.
Id love to play on mods but im an Xbox player 😭😭 I've been thinking of getting it on PC too but idk where to find it
Steam and I heard it was on sale! Tbh the mods made me want to play more of the game, lol. I love that you can summon Sebastian to accompany you during your quests, and you can change your appearance and clothes!
I change my hair after every story mission with goblins/ashwinders so they don’t recongnize me so easily. Just adding to the lore lmao
That's actually such a fun idea what???? It would be so cool if that actually worked lmao
No other shops like that I’m afraid.
You can’t change your face shape, name, or gender, but yeah, pretty much everything else is up for grabs.
I play it a lot, and I have a save for each house just before the hogsmeade troll, because I find the forced stuff before that a bit repetitive, so I go from there and do the troll, then head off to the hairdresser to pick my look, then play on.
I do something similar to the save file thing, but I wait until after I get to hogwarts since I hate going through the tutorial, but maybe waiting until hogsmeade is smarter, lol
(Thought i replied to this early but must've forgotten to send it, lol)
The main tedious things (IMHO) you skip by delaying it to before the troll (rather than just before or after sorting) are the accio game and the run to hogsmeade.
Most stuff after that is fun. Crossed wands, restricted section, etc. etc.
You are a genius for that save file. I’m copying
It’s worth it if only to save you from that run to Hogsmeade.
I'm writing these so hopefully developers see it and maybe any other fans out there who agree
Appearance:
One of the biggest gripes I have is the faces and customization of characters. Definitely not enough hair options and the clothing options have cool attachments like wand holsters yet the wand doesn't sit there.... Jewelery and head bands would be a great addition and better customization of face and makeup options. Clothing that shows skin, shorts, skirts above knee.
Game mechanics:
-Go to bed vs laying in the floor for day and night or at least both options -Being able to choose an Animal Companion -Choice and consequence that mold the characters personality -Romance -More in depth character development across the board for everyone -Non-repetititive NPC cycles -Sound enhancement (sometimes I'll be playing and it will almost be dead silent, hard to hear NPC chatter) -More cut scenes -More side quests and companion quests -Better NPC Interaction -Dorm interactions with our bed our wardrobe and our own decoration of our area
Other:
It'd be great if we could form actual bonds with classmates or friends depending on our role in next game. Everything we got in Legacy was very face value with no real bonding. Some sort of back story we could have for our character would also be nice. NPC chatter about our background/choices and more detailed conversations in general.
There's much more that could have been done with this game that they severely lacked in putting in. It's got so much potential to be something amazing and I really hope they make the next game with gamers in mind.
I completely agree! I’ve loved the game, but I feel like I’m playing a demo. The main quest isn’t long enough and I don’t feel fully satisfied, so much so that I refuse to finish the main quest as in my mind that means the game is over - even though there is a load of side quests.
It would be great if they added more beasts or even did an add on for collecting more beasts and main missions for that. Considering we have the fantastic beasts films, they could have done a lot more there. Would also love to see more lesson quests, not just the assignments! More clothing that you could customise would be great, so many items I liked but despised the colour. More hairstyles too. Buying an owl would’ve been incredible. I feel like they missed things that everyone wanted to experience in Harry Potter.
My BIGGEST moan is the main quest - not only for the length of it but also the story. I found it really hard to dislike Isidora, I saw her point a lot throughout the game, she wasn’t a completely evil person, which makes it really hard to want to make the right decision in the end.
I hope they make another game! There is so much potential there, hopefully they will take our points on board
This is so minor but I'd love the player character to say "Nox" when they cast lumos a second time and extinguish their wand.
Also cool would be a talent for Alohamora that removes the mini game (or say, if it removed it for level 1 locks when you learn level 2, and removed it for level 2 when you learned level 3)
For starters I am halfway through my I've been watching someone play Persona 3 and I noticed that the other characters in that game feel so much more alive than in Hogwarts. People don't talk in a natural way. Like you go up to a teacher and you ask them about their life and they just go on a long monolouge. In Persona the characters talk with each other. Their personalites bounce off of each other.
Another thing is the spell system is too convuluted. It isn't fun every few minutes to have to sort through your list of spells and assign them to a spell wheel in order to have the right ones for a fight, puzzle, or designing a room. It can also make combat somewhat overwhelming when you are trying to sift through your spell combos for the right one. I don't know why they didn't just do something like Shadow of War where your spells are tied to button combos.
The aesthetic is phenominal but I so wish there were story lines and events for all of the cool locations they built so they feel lived in. I think that is my main complaint is that they built such a beautiful world but it feels a bit lifeless.
Need some Harry Potter themed Gwent. Hwent?
I really do want to be able to customize my character more because it just felt so limited. My first played through I wanted MC to represent me, but I couldn’t get her to look like me because of how limited the options were
I'm just wondering how in the character customization is for the game, since when I saw the some of the gameplay footage I was kinda surprised to see that there was a very limited amount of hairstyles and other such things. I'm just slightly concerned, since if there is one thing that the Hogwarts Mystery game got right, it was a somewhat solid character creator.
Yeah the customization is extremely limited which in my opinion sucks but they might update the customization.
There aren't too many hairstyles and other such things to choose from. But the gameplay and artistic style definitely won't let you down.
Limited as the options may seem, you don’t see too many of the same looking character
I believe they will update soon. A lot of stuff can be developed.
Customization is limited (about 3 different styles per feature) but they will be releasing skins.
The tile is self explanatory I think so what would you people like for the sequel
I personally want.
More voices and different accents Body sliders for hight aswell I would like facial hair( This isn't really needed tho) More wand types More in depth school classes A companion system A better pet system
About the RPG systems I would like choices to matte my problem here is, is Hogwarts legacy trying to be A hardcore RPG or an Action RPG because then I understand why choices isn't that big of deal
But I would like the side quests decision to hold more impact tho
I would like some variation on the romance system or friendship system. Of course, they are all minors, so it shouldn't be more than the last dialogue with Poppy, for example, when you both agree to have some butter beer in three broomsticks. But you can't ruin your relationship with character if you just do their quests. Also I would like your house to have more value. It's just nothing to do there while the location are beautiful themselves. More people in a room, some scenes like in a Harry Potter movie when they are just chilling together. Could be like pajama parties for Hryffindor or some social gathering I a main room for Slytherin. There was absolutely no need to get back to your room while it can be some safe space. I am a Slytherin student in a game, but there was only Sebastian for the real friendship. Ominis is a cutscene guy. The girl just gives you a broomstick challenge, and that's it. You mostly travel and speak with the guys from other houses, and there are like 5 of them total. The ending proves my point, it felt like there are 10-12 people in a whole Hogwarts
I’d also be besties with Imelda if I could even though (or because) she’s a bitch at first. Poppy’s ok, a little too meek for my murderous MC to be friends with. Which sounds weird bc we kill a bunch of poachers together. If I were a boy (or girl I guess) I probably wouldn’t romance her bc she gives the vibe she’s into centaurs. Plus I could never show her my room of requirement and let her realize I’m out here poaching more beasts than the poachers. Amit is a nerd and lies about his actual abilities, which is a red flag in the romance dept - what else would he lie about his abilities in, you know? Natsai is actually quite pretty but we need to fix her hair to flatter her bone structure more, and something about her gives me the ick. She’d be a helicopter friend who always tells me to stop robbing houses. Anytime I’m on a quest with her I worry using unforgivable curses bc she seems like a narc. Garrett Weasley is fun but too loud and would blabber to his auntie about me or try to help and fuck it up somehow. Puffskein Dunkein amd the gobstones girl are absolute non-options.
I’d romance Ominus if I could (my ravenclaw would at least, my crazy gryffindor girl would go for Sebastian so they can go around the world using dark curses together)
I had just briefly mentioned this to a friend, and even tho I know its rumored to be in “accordance” with the new Harry Potter TV show, I wish it were a take on maybe working as an auror for the ministry. There are so many other avenues that the Harry Potter universe can explore. Personally, I think an RPG about stopping some new dark wizard cult while solving other cases as an auror would be excellent. You could decorate your own section of the department of ministries (to fill the room of requirement niche), travel to London/surrounding cities and rural areas, explore the wizarding underground if there is one, etc.
I think it could brew some really neat gameplay scenarios rather than just being a god student who stops a bad guy and saves the school.
Won't the new Hogwarts legacy just be the 6 year of this game it would be stupid to involve the next game with Harry Potter because then you can't really do anything because it has to follow the Harry Potter story
No, I don’t think it would be just a sixth year for our Hogwarts legacy character. It would be far easier and more creative to do a new main character during a different time. I hope the next game isn’t just Harry Potter, but Warner bros did mention something about it being in “accordance,” whatever that means
Don't you think that would be a completely different game then Hogwarts legacy I think it would be a cool.game
Everything you mentioned. Also an actual house point system. More attention to the actual Hogwarts and the immediate grounds around it, some kind of honor system perhaps? Makes no sense that I can cast unforgivable curses and nobody gives a damn about it. Better dialog in general because it sounds extremely robotic. The common room playing a more important role. Quidditch. The basic ability to have meals and butterbeer at The Three Broomsticks, eat breakfast/lunch/dinner in the Great Hall.
I just want them to play Bully a few times and use that as a blueprint. That's how you do a school simulator. I don't know how a game from 2006 feels more alive and polished than a game from 2023.
"just want them to play Bully a few times and use that as a blueprint. That's how you do a school simulator. I don't know how a game from 2006 feels more alive and polished than a game from 2023."
I'm surprised they didn't play Bully..that is pretty much a perfect example of how they SHOULD have went about creating this game.
HL should have been Bully at Hogwarts yet they turn around & do the complete opposite...it's like creating a racing game..only you the player doesn't get to race...you only get to watch it..wtf???
In a way HL feels more like a movie unfolding rather than a game where the player has any agency.
Plus the castle while spectacularly designed...is nothing but a giant museum with nothing for the player to return to. Oh do you want to sleepin your own bed?? PFFFFFTT not in this castle..off limits to us.
I think one big problem is they were looking to make it as accessable as possible...which shouldn't mean what the final product gave as arsult of that...plus I don't think WB'S had faith in the studio or didn't have faith in a single player RPG..no they'd rather commit to the narrative that only live service games brings in all the money....yes because their track record has been littered by successful Live services hasn't it??
I want the sequel to resume our journey...no skipping to 7th year, our MC has personality & we can explore our ability REGARDLESS of the keepers wishes & learn much more spells, potions etc the companions stories resume or come to a close & we meet new students who we can make companions with. Crossed wands is a PERMANANT activity as well as having other after school classes. We go dunegon crawling with both students & Professors
Our enemey could be a ravid follower of Rookwood who's out for our blood with Harlow possibly taking charge of theashwinders ( not sure if he's locked up or not). This time it's not about sealing the repository, it can be about siphoning off the ball of energy & studying it..with help of course. Plus we get to talek with Isadora..no we didn not get her story especially for a group of sanctimonious pricks. She tells her side & what really happened & WE get to decide for ourselves what path we gtake instead of being DECIDED for us.
I'd love if the sequel had the ministry as antagonists with agents from the Dep of Mysteries and Aurors after us to study our use of AM. It'd be the perfect excuse to explore the Ministry and have a climax similar to Order of the Phoenix. Of course, this is just for the main story; there's a lot they can do on top of that.
I agree with you and OP. Basically I want more focus on just being a student at Hogwarts, but without becoming too much of a classroom simulator.
My wants:
The Patronus Charm
A companion system
Romance options (even subtle ones work)
A quidditch season
Repercussions for choices made in the first game
Does anyone know if we can change how our character looks after we get into the game? Like changing our hairstyles or colours?
I hope we can edit. I was really hoping to be able to give my character a tattoo as a reward for maybe a story milestone or something. Or change tattoos or hairstyles from time to time because I'm indecisive.
If they don't introduce Tleilaxu flesh vats where you can change your appearance and add faction-unique tattoos and scarring then they should have their licence revoked.
I want to become a Harkonnen.
That’s what I’m saying
I hope that you would be able to change your appearance.
Nope. Once it's set, it's set.
As of right now we don't know. It's safe to assume it's permanent. I think it would be cool if they added character customization to the social hub for a cost.
hogwarts legacy character customization
Key Considerations for Character Customization in Hogwarts Legacy:
Character Appearance: You can customize your character's physical features, including:
House Selection: Your character will be sorted into one of the four Hogwarts houses (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw), which influences your experience and interactions in the game.
Wand Customization: You can choose the type of wand, including its wood, core, and length, which can affect your magical abilities and style.
Clothing and Gear: As you progress, you'll unlock various outfits and gear that can be equipped. These not only change your character's appearance but may also provide gameplay benefits.
Skill Trees: While not a visual customization, you can develop your character's abilities through skill trees, allowing you to tailor your playstyle (e.g., focusing on spells, stealth, or combat).
Takeaway: Hogwarts Legacy offers a robust character customization system that allows you to create a unique wizard or witch. Take your time to explore the options available, as your choices will enhance your immersion in the magical world. Enjoy experimenting with different looks and abilities to find the perfect combination that suits your playstyle!
