What Redditors are Saying

How to Get Sorted in Hogwarts Legacy

TL;DR Link your Pottermore account or take the in-game sorting quiz, then choose your preferred house.

Linking Pottermore Account

One way to get sorted in Hogwarts Legacy is by linking your Pottermore account. This allows you to import your house choice directly into the game based on your previous sorting on Pottermore [5]. Pottermore also offers quizzes for determining your Patronus and wand, which can enhance your overall wizarding experience [1:2].

In-Game Sorting Quiz

If you haven't linked a Pottermore account, Hogwarts Legacy provides an in-game sorting quiz. After the Sorting Hat "sorts" you, you have the option to choose whichever house you prefer [5]. This allows players to align their character with their personal preference, regardless of the initial sorting result.

Extended Sorting Options

For those interested in more detailed sorting, Wizardmore.com offers an Extended Sorting Quiz that shows what percentage of other houses you might belong to [1:3]. This can provide additional insights into your personality traits and how they align with each Hogwarts house.

Replayability and House-Specific Content

While replaying the game with different houses is possible, many users noted that only a single mission changes per house, along with house-specific clothing and common rooms [2:9]. Some players expressed a desire for more house-specific quests to enhance replayability [2:7], [2:10].

Community Insights

The community often discusses the traits associated with each house and how they might overlap. For example, Ravenclaw values wit and learning, while Slytherin emphasizes cunning and ambition [3:5]. Understanding these traits can help players decide which house aligns best with their character's personality and goals.

I just finished Hogwarts legacy, main and secondary quests, and now what? In my opinion, I still don't want to start another game with another house, because it would be repeating everything too quickly. Or I don't know if the missions change a little depending on the house we choose?

I really wish they had more quests that were slightly different based on which house you choose. One is kinda cool but I'd be happy with like a dozen

_cocopuff92 · 4 months ago

Yes! It would be cool if there were a dozen or so quests specific to qualities of each house. It would be so nice to see them do a NG+ and add some extra quests for each house to spice things up.

Yeah a whole unique overarching quest line for each house would make the game much more replayable.

A single mission changes per house, nothing else really. Oh and the house clothing changes colour and you get a different common room/dorms etc.

I'd recommend giving it a rest for a while so you don't get oversaturated with the same stuff again for a while.

I understand, if I think I'll take a break from Hogwarts and then I'll see, I want to do it with the Hufflepuff house, they say there's a quest to askaban, or something like that.

I did a new one for the same reason. Honestly it was pretty lame. You just go and talk to one of the prisoners. I can't even remember her name or why I had to speak to her. I'm on the Switch though so maybe there is a little more content on another system. I was extremely disappointed and regretted starting over as Hufflepuff.

That's what I did, got my Slytherin character to the room of requirement then took like 6mo break because I concentrated too hard on playing lol. Now I'm addicted again after I just got back into it a couple weeks ago.

I enjoyed doing a second play through making completely different choices (basically evil ones lol) to see/hear the different interactions etc. I also made it harder the second time by taking away the guide stuff and mini maps, etc.

If you like chasing achievements you can also go back and do all of those as well. (butterfly chests, breeding animals, and whatnot)

I was surprised when it was over—but I guess the only other RPG video games I’ve played in full have been Bethesda games, and those are CRAZY long in comparison. At least there are a lot of side quests and stuff, but I do with the main storyline had been a bit longer. I feel like there is a lot more they could have done.

Posted by funnylib · in r/harrypotter · 6 months ago

Outside of pureblood ideology, Slytherin traits are cunning, ambition, and resourcefulness, traits that overlap quite a bit with Ravenclaw values like wit and learning. I assume the Sort Hat has to take that into account, rather than just throwing muggleborn students into a dormitory without adult supervision where they are easy prey to bullying and jinxes from their classmates.

I kind of agree with this theory. I mean, Salazar Slytherin, who was against Muggleborns even attending Hogwarts, also contributed to the creation of the Hat. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Hat sensed Salazar’s views and recognized that he would never see Muggleborns as "worthy Slytherins."

I think it's not impossible, but being a muggleborn does make it far less likely. You'd just have to be very Slytherin, your mind needs to convince the hat that you're the special exception

Honestly I'm not sure there is that much overlap between the two, or at least not more than with the others.

Feels to me like Ravenclaw is more about liking to learn and amass knowledge, whereas slitherin is more about quick wits and using smarts to reach a goal.

Basically, Ravenclaw would be akin to scholars, and Slytherin to companies/government execs. Both would be expected to be smart and driven, but the mindset would tend to be completely different.

That's not to say the case you're presenting wouldn't happen, but I'd imagine there would be as many who'd end up in griffindor if they showed hints of courage, or hufflepuff otherwise.

Some, yes, but I've always felt people overstate the overlap between the traits of those houses. I don't think they necessarily overlap any more than any other houses. Ambition in particular could overlap a lot with hard work, which is a Hufflepuff trait.

I started Hogwarts Legacy last night

Posted by benjamin47077 · in r/HarryPotterGame · 4 months ago

As the title says, I started Hogwarts Legacy last night. The game is visually one of the best I've played. The next visually pleasing game I've played would be Destiny, so take that as you will. The gameplay is very cool. I linked my Pottermore account, so I did not get to do the full house test, but I did enjoy the fact that you can pick whichever house you want after the hat "sorts" you. I also enjoy the fact that you do not come in as an 11-year-old, but you start as a fifth-year transfer student, and being able to meet students from other wizarding schools, something the books and movies could have explored more. I also like that you don't just start with all the spells, but you have to learn new spells from the professors slowly. These are my very early thoughts on the game (about 3 hours' worth of playing). I will continue to post my thoughts on the game as I continue, and will try to make all reviews spoiler-free.

Let’s get to the bottom of the Sorting Hat…

Posted by N0t-a-Muggle · in r/HarryPotterBooks · 3 months ago

If the Sorting Hat takes personal choice into account, why doesn't it allow more students to choose their House—and what does that suggest about fate versus free will at Hogwarts?

Do we know for sure that it doesn't let more students choose? I don't think we ever hear of a student who requested to be in a different House and was denied, everyone seems content in the Houses they were placed

24 upvotes on reddit
PoorFriendNiceFoe · 3 months ago

Who says it doesn't? Case in point, Hermione has all traits of a Ravenclaw, but states on the train she would like Gryffindor because Dumbledore went there. She might have inadvertently chosen Gryf over Claw due to that thought.

We don't know of anyone what the hat actually says to them, or why they are placed where they are.

50 upvotes on reddit
Munchkinberries_420 · 3 months ago

Exactly. We are only aware that the hat told Hermione she would well in Ravenclaw because she shared the information, while others never did. Harry chose to be in Gryffindor because Hagrid had told him Voldemort and all the bad wizards went to Slytherin. Ron we know wanted to be in Gryffindor because his entire family was in Gryffindor, as was the case with Malfoy who wanted to be in Slytherin. Similarly, James said the same thing but Sirius said he would like to break the family tradition, so Sirius chose Gryffindor over Slytherin. Snape wanted to be in Slytherin, even though he has Gryffindor's traits of bravery. Peter Pettigrew is a coward but was in Gryffindor, which would mean that he chose to be in Gryffindor. When Dumbledore tells Snape "sometimes we sort too soon," it indicates that the hat could have placed a person in another house that would have well suited his/her qualities. This suggests that the hat prioritises the sorting on choice then.

So basically, the Sorting Hat is the ultimate "you already know the answer" therapist. Except with less patience and more shouting about bravery.

6 upvotes on reddit
N0t-a-Muggle · OP · 3 months ago

Okay, but that’s kind of proving my point, not yours.** Just because Hermione said she liked Gryffindor doesn’t mean she didn’t actually belong there. She’s insanely smart, yeah, but that’s not all she is. The Sorting Hat clearly saw something else in her — bravery, leadership, that intense moral compass. She fit in Gryffindor. That wasn’t some accident just because she had a schoolgirl crush on Dumbledore’s legacy.

Also, thinking something casually on the train isn’t the same as making a life-defining choice. If she really deep down belonged in Ravenclaw, the Hat would’ve pushed harder. Like it did with Harry. The Hat doesn’t just go, “Oh you thought a thing for 5 seconds? Cool, here’s your forever house.” It knows people better than they know themselves.

And honestly? The fact that we don’t know what the Hat says to most students is exactly why we can’t assume it’s just giving them what they want. You’re making the assumption that everyone secretly picks their house, but there’s no proof of that either. Most of the time, people are shocked by where they end up — like Neville thinking he didn’t belong in Gryffindor, or even Harry doubting he was a good fit.

The whole “you choose your house” idea sounds nice and fair, but that’s not what the Hat was designed for. It’s meant to sort, not hand out participation trophies based on who likes what color best.

-10 upvotes on reddit
Sgt-Spliff- · 3 months ago

Lol what exactly do you think their point was? You're not really using any logic by the way.

>Just because Hermione said she liked Gryffindor doesn’t mean she didn’t actually belong there.

Like this sentence means nothing and doesn't progress the discussion at all. You are making shit up instead of using actual evidence to support your ideas. What we know for certain is that Hermione wanted Gryf and got Gryf and everything else you said is speculation and assumption. Lots of people show bravery, leadership, and a moral compass throughout the series qnd they're not all Gryffindors.

Here's a list of random baseless assumptions you made that have no evidence to support:

>The Sorting Hat clearly saw something else in her

>That wasn’t some accident just because she had a schoolgirl crush on Dumbledore’s legacy.

>If she really deep down belonged in Ravenclaw, the Hat would’ve pushed harder

It did push for this. Hermione herself says it did in book 5.

>You’re making the assumption that everyone secretly picks their house

Lol no one said this at all

>that’s not what the Hat was designed for.

You have literally no idea about any of this.

3 upvotes on reddit
wha7themah · 3 months ago

Everything you said about hermione you can say about Harry. Also some people speculate that the sorting hat was feeling a pull to slytherin because of Harry being a horcrux.

Harry may have some traits of a slytherin but not really the most defining characteristics. He had way more traits of a gryffindor. The hat mentioned slytherin but that doesn’t mean that’s where Harry would have been placed if he hadn’t been thinking “not slytherin”

I don’t think Harry chose to be in gryffindor (or even anywhere other than slytherin). I think that’s where the hat would have put him regardless.

7 upvotes on reddit
Devri30 · 3 months ago

I think most kids let the hat decide and just go along with it. I think it doesn't even occur to them that they can influence its decision.

The sorting hat just picks up when they have strong negative feelings towards a house and decides to place them in another. Like when Harry really didn't want to go to Slytherin at all because he only heard negative things about it.

I don't think the hat places kids in Gryffindor when they're supposed to be in Hufflepuff just because they think the other house is cooler. They have to really feel strongly about it in order for the hat to change its original choice.

Magic_mousie · 3 months ago

It has to be a true choice though I think. Like Harry didn't want Slytherin because he rejected everything they stood for.

If I was a complete idiot who hated learning, didn't value knowledge, but wanted to go in Ravenclaw because my favourite colour was blue, the hat would be like, lol nice one, SLYTHERIN!

Okay wait—that’s actually hilarious and lowkey kind of genius 😂

Like imagine this: You're 11, trembling in front of the whole school, this crusty old hat gets dropped on your head, and all you hear is, "Hmm... interesting... brave... loyal... clever... cunning... WEEEEEELL BETTER BE..." Slytherin.

And meanwhile Dumbledore's just in the back, closed-eye meditating like, "Yeah this one's got trauma, send him to Gryffindor so he can get character development."

It's a well known game so no new revelations. Good time especially if you're a fan of the books or movies. Great job designing the wand combat and integrating herbology. Broom flying is nice af I end up skipping fast travel just to do that.

Hogwarts is well designed and is fun to explore. There are a ton of collectibles to find but subjectively they were easy for me as I spent most of my playtime exploring the world.

Story is a bit meh and the actor face capture is not the best. There are also some trophies which you need to track manually like the one that needs you to hit every type of enemy with the ultimate and one for collectible chests.

Tip: if you're a pottermore/wizarding world user you can connect accounts to migrate your house and wand.

Do you know what house you are/ have a house you identify with? There's no actual sorting process here, you apply to join your house common room. If you aren't sure, you can take an online sorting hat quiz, then apply to the relevant common room.

How to get sorted in hogwarts legacy

Key Considerations for Getting Sorted in Hogwarts Legacy

  1. Character Creation: Before getting sorted, you'll need to create your character. Pay attention to your character's appearance and traits, as these can influence your experience.

  2. Sorting Ceremony: The sorting takes place during the game's introduction. You'll be placed in front of the Sorting Hat, which will assess your personality and preferences.

  3. Choices Matter: Your responses to questions and choices made during the game can impact which house you are sorted into. Think about the traits associated with each house:

    • Gryffindor: Courage, bravery, and chivalry.
    • Hufflepuff: Hard work, loyalty, and patience.
    • Ravenclaw: Intelligence, creativity, and wisdom.
    • Slytherin: Ambition, cunning, and resourcefulness.
  4. Replayability: If you're not satisfied with your initial house, you can replay the game or use different character traits to explore other houses.

Recommendation: To enhance your experience, consider what traits resonate with you personally. This will make your journey through Hogwarts more enjoyable and immersive. If you have a favorite house, think about how you can embody its values in your gameplay!
