How to Block Someone on Hinge

Blocking vs. Removing

On Hinge, the concept of blocking someone is not as straightforward as it might be on other platforms. The app primarily offers options to "remove" or "report" a profile [1:7]. Removing a person functions similarly to blocking; when you remove someone, they will no longer see your profile, and you won't see theirs [1:5]. However, if you're looking for a traditional block feature that prevents all forms of interaction, Hinge does not explicitly offer this option.

Block Contacts Feature

Hinge has introduced a "Block Contacts" feature, which allows you to prevent people in your phone contacts from seeing your profile on Hinge [4]. This can be particularly useful for avoiding exes, coworkers, or anyone else whose contact information you have. To use this feature, you need to sync your contacts with the app, and then you can select which contacts to block.

Issues with Blocking

Some users have reported issues where blocked individuals reappear on their Hinge feed. This could be due to the blocked person using a different sign-up method, such as an email address instead of a phone number [2:3], [2:4]. Additionally, glitches in the app may cause previously blocked profiles to reappear [3:1].

Dealing with Persistent Profiles

If you encounter a situation where someone repeatedly appears despite attempts to block them, it may be beneficial to report the issue to Hinge customer service [2:2]. If the individual is creating new accounts to bypass blocks, consider reporting them directly within the app [3:3].

Safety Concerns

In cases where someone is persistently contacting you across multiple platforms, and it feels like harassment, it's important to prioritize your safety. Consider reaching out to authorities if you feel threatened [5:5], and ensure that your personal information is not easily accessible through your profile [3:10].

Is there a way to actually block a person on the app? Only options is to remove or report. The report options don’t match what the reasons. Just don’t want to see the guy I was dating randomly pop up.

Someone smarter than me can answer Tinder has a feature where it won’t show you people who are contacts in your phone as contacts if you allow the app access

I’m not sure if hinge has that as well.

I haven’t seen that in settings. If hinge doesn’t have a simple block button, I doubt they have this.

I’m confused by what you mean by block. When you remove a profile one of the reasons is “I don’t want to see this person”

Isn’t that what you’re looking for?

Nope just remove & report unfortunately.

That’s disappointing 👎🏻 they need to add that feature

Removing someone(not the same as Xing their profile) functions the same.

Blocking would be a useless feature since you can sign up using a Google voice number and profiles can be made/deleted easily. The juice isn’t worth the squeeze for the app staff.

If you remove a person the app also won't show him your profile, so it pretty much functions as a block.

Block no longer working?

Recently rejoined. Added around 20 people to my blocked list via their phone number. Up to date numbers too. And yet I’ve seen 6 of them on Hinge so far. Maybe one signed up with a different number but can’t imagine all 6 have 2 phone numbers to sign up with.

Anyone else noticed profiles appearing who you have added to your blocked list?

They might have used an email or Apple account instead which would disclude them from your blocking ability. Orr maybe the blocking isn’t as secure as they say it is.

Thanks. At least in the uk I’m sure you have to have a mobile number to sign up, and also an email address as a code is sent to both upon joining.

This happened to me recently too, although I assumed it was because he maybe used his email address to create the account, and I was blocking on phone number

Have had this issue before, too. Guess they could have used a different sign-up method but have also read glitches can happen.

There is no real avoiding, you're going to see people on there that you don't want to see.

As a back up plan, isn’t it still possible to set Hinge so that profiles can only see you if you like their profile first? Yes, you would miss out on likes coming your way, but you can still send out your own likes and still possibly match while maintaining your privacy.

Could be a algorithm thing. sometimes hinge keeps showing me the same girl multiple times a week even tho I hit the X everytime.

I think if hinge thinks your equal to the potential match, the algorithm may give you multiple chances. Seems like it.

Or dude could be deleting and remaking his account once a month a lot and swiping for everyone. Lot of women do that too I see

Who knows. But if you simply dont wanna see the guy anymore for whatever reason, just hit block or "dont show me this person" whatever it is

But if he keeps on making a new account, I think that won’t work.

raptor217 · 6 months ago

It depends on the block reason. Hinge will actually treat a block with the reason “not interested” as an X. When I block someone I do “no reason” so it’s permanent.

Sounds more like the app glitching. I’ve never heard of an obsessive type making a new account to “repeatedly like” a profile.

wokenthehive · 6 months ago

He could simply be remaking his account over and over. Hinge should flag this but he could be using multiple phone numbers. You should definitely report him to Hinge, and screenshots should help.

PermitThick1202 · 6 months ago

Are you blocking or just hitting the X to dismiss? I've been seeing the same guys over and over after hitting X on their profile, so I've started clicking the 3 dots at the top right of the profile and selecting "remove"...this has stopped repeats. I haven't blocked anyone, but it's the option under "remove"--I'm guessing that would stop your profile to be shown to him again. If he's liking your profile tho, that's definitely something you should report.

Yeah, they recycle people when you’ve gone through the rotation of not choosing them unless you block.

2 upvotes on reddit

Might be somebody who just tries to match with everybody and anybody over and over. Might be a single account or might be frequently creating new ones. It's actually very hard to conclude whether the guy is obsessed with you or in reality you aren't even on his radar at all and he is just a serial "right swiper".

This will sound like a strange move but if blocking seemingly or truly doesn't work, could consider actually just matching with the guy next time it arises and then moving him into your hidden ones and then just seeing what happens... Does he send weird messages? Does he just ignore you as well anyway? Does he still keep sending you likes or coming up in your feed going forward? Which shouldn't be possible unless either he first unmatches you, or actually is making multiple accounts...

Idk but I would be careful, that is weird asf. Make sure you have nothing that can tie back to your social media or anything else identifiable (job, etc)

PSA: Hinge has now added a new "Block Contacts" feature

Posted by wokenthehive · in r/hingeapp · 1 year ago

I know this is something people have asked for in the past, and now Hinge has added a "Block Contacts" feature.

Rejoice now you can block exes, family members, co-workers, friends, old matches that you went out with and never want to see again, or whomever else from seeing your profile on Hinge as long as you have their contacts.

https://preview.redd.it/nj5392g0j20c1.jpg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82ccd27b279e5fab0900bd61cc16da8dedb213ec

Here are the information about this feature from Hinge:

  • Blocked contacts won’t be notified that you blocked them
  • Blocking someone doesn’t mean they have a Hinge account
  • Blocking contacts won’t affect your existing matches or messages
  • If the contact info you use to block someone doesn’t match the info they used to sign up, we won’t be able to stop you from seeing each other
  • You can stop sharing contacts with the Block Contacts feature in your Hinge settings
  • If you don’t want to grant access to your contacts, we offer a manual contact entry option

Interestingly enough Hinge haven't really publicized this (yet) and sort of sneaked it in there. It could also very well be a beta feature that's not rolled out yet to all users around the world. (I have the latest version of the app on the iPhone.)

You'll find this in the "Settings" section under "Safety" below the selfie verification feature.

So this guy was gifting and calling texting like anything and after repeated no and blocks he was finding new ways like multiple email ids to harass her. I first made fake profile of girl, matched with the asshole kinda guys, asked them for smokeup and hookup/netflix and chill depending on the guy, so guys gets a feel of genuinity if it's not just that will ask for a hotel room, so that they don't get alarmed or feel they getting catfished. Then I tell them to meet me here and give the match his number cause now the guy is riled up and all so they gonna get extra pushing and harrass the guy even more.

Then if that doesn't work, get a guy with scary voice, pose and police/cyber police and give few details of his phone model and some electronic accessories he uses and withrandom IP address and imei number on call and tell him he will be tracked and caught soon enough as complaint for sexual/harassment and all. These things should drive him away. I have done this for a friend of mine, you can try it too, or happy to volunteer.

Can you pre-block someone on Hinge without having to see their profiles?

Posted by tomahawkward · in r/hingeapp · 4 years ago

I'm thinking of remaking my Hinge account because I've had it active on-and-off for about two years and have gone through most of the people in my suburban area. However, I want to avoid seeing a couple of my exes on there whom I have seen on Hinge a couple times before, some as recently as a couple weeks ago. I've already blocked them after I saw them.

I know their stats so I can limit preferences (school, height, area, age, etc.) but I would rather not have to go actively find their profile to block them. Is there a way to contact Hinge to have them blocked for me?

Block an account from seeing you on hinge?

Posted by groovinandmovinnn · in r/DatingApps · 3 years ago

I broke up with my ex a year ago. We’re on good terms and have acknowledged we’re on dating apps and seeing other people casually. He admitted his friend told him a way to add a phone number to not be able to see his profile? That way I wouldn’t come across him on hinge. I’m not offended by this, in fact it’s almost a sigh of relief. While we both are on the apps (with no luck admittedly), we don’t need to see eachother come across our dating apps. Is this a legit thing? I can’t figure out in the settings how to make it work?

Hinge, Tinder any match related company have been going on a massive banning spree since covid started. Unfortantley you can combat this by sending in a appeal (which 90% of the time goes unanswered) or try to create a new profile with a new number and different pictures not using the same wi-fi internet (which depends on how bad you want to meet someone)

Hinge keeps sending me most compatible emails with the same person repeatedly

Posted by MyTreehouseIsOnFire · in r/hingeapp · 3 years ago

I’ve received about 4 emails from hinge over the last year (on two profiles I’ve made, since I deleted my account and took a break for a few months). I happen to know the person and X them whenever I’ve come across their profile. They have shown up on my feed a few times in general, and then in my emails as “most compatible”.

Is there a way to make this stop? Is this person also getting these repeated emails? It’s almost embarrassing at this point, and become a joke amongst my friends that hinge keeps trying to make it happen.

FYI, there is no algorithm on Hinge. Well there is and it's extremely basic.

Start of deck: least desirable profiles

End of deck: people with IG handles in names and wannabee influences. Way too high maintenance and like talking to a radiator.

I find the best people to be 3/4 of the way through the deck.

how to block someone on hinge

Here’s how to block someone on Hinge:

  1. Open the App: Launch the Hinge app on your device.

  2. Go to the Profile: Navigate to the profile of the person you want to block. You can do this by tapping on their photo in your matches or likes.

  3. Access Options: Once on their profile, look for the three dots (or the "More" option) usually located in the top right corner of the screen.

  4. Select Block: Tap on the option that says "Block" or "Report." You may be prompted to confirm your decision.

  5. Confirmation: After confirming, the person will be blocked, and you will no longer see their profile or receive messages from them.

Key Considerations:

  • Privacy: Blocking someone will prevent them from seeing your profile and vice versa, ensuring your interactions are kept private.
